Hi guys.
I'm having big trouble here with another zenfone 2 ZE550ml.
(It was left switched off for almost two years!!)
Now when i powered it up!
I noticed that , It's WiFi and Bluetooth signal range has become very poor. It has become so weak that
The WiFi bar shows full only next to the router but no signal at all in a few feet (2-3) distance from the router.
And the Same condition for the Bluetooth too.
I have tried resetting several times but no result.
(My SIM connections are good as new Though!!! They are fine!!)
Here is some info,
[After resetting.
The firmware version was.
2.20.40.9(something)
Then auto updated (150MB) to
2.20.40.120
And some minutes later,
It took another auto update (91MB)
To 2.20.40.156]
I thought it would help, but it didn't do anything!
The WiFi and Bluetooth is still in the same condition.
(Very weak signal. Becomes strong only when I put the phone on the router !!!.)
Please help.
Is there any way it can be fixed ???
(Is the device's WiFi & Bluetooth chip got damaged??
How do I check if they are?)
Maybe the wifi antenna has come off. You need to remove the back and the screwed on backplate. It connects in the bottom right corner by the vibration motor.

Thanks for the reply.
Did you mean that black wire which comes from the motherboard to the Board that has the USB port?
I'm sure that the wire is connected.

If it is the cable.
Then I am sure that its properly connected.
Though, still there might be problems.
I will check it out.!
BTW,
Are you sure That the coaxial cable is the WiFi antenna?
I mean it could be the Mobile network antenna.
As my phone network is doing great!
And where can I get a full diagram for this device ?
I mean "what part is for what" in this device!
Thanks.

Hi everyone,
I have the same problem. I recently changed the screen and I though it was a complete success but no. Wifi and also bluetooth works as you describe.
I think I probably broke the coaxial antenna cable or maybe it's related to the usb+bluetooth module. Any solution idea of how to fix it?
Should I change the cable?
Thanks

The WiFi/Bluetooth antenna are on the top of the motherboard near the power button. Check the spring contacts there. Gently lift up those contacts if they are depressed and make sure the rear cover contact points are not corroded. If corroded, scrape them off and you should be good to go.

I accidentally bricked my new Rhod500 and bought heavy-used Rhod210 on eBay for parts. I replaced the motherboard, but the problem was with antenna pins, that are slightly different. I soldered wire (2) instead of one antenna and adjusted pins for second antenna (1). The GSM now works, but not the GPS. Probably, I did something wrong. Does anybody knows which one of these is GPS antenna? Thanks!
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I figured out, (1) is GSM antenna and (2) is GPS. Everything works now, please close the thread.
there appears to be a third antenna at the bottom of the phone. what one is that? i would have put money on that being the gps.
Indeed. Maybe CDMA? One thing I know for sure, my GPS doesn't work if I cut yellow wire (2) or change its length.

sTUPID QUESTION.....
IS the black vinyl like sticker on the back of the phone part of the actual antenna?
I ripped mine off, and now GPS no longer works.
Hi, you mind to make it briefly probable with more details picture as i open it to solve the no sim card problem and now the gps not work.
i might have remove some weld wire or what...
mind to show me details picture how the gps wire goes around?
htc sucks....1 year and all gone

Hi,
Am having problems with my GNex after briefly using the external antenna port in the back when I was out in the middle of nowhere.
Before I used the port, I had good signal pretty much everywhere. At current (after using it) I get no bars (not even enough signal to receive sms) except for in extremely specific spots where it will jump up to full. There seems to be no loss of functionality in spots where I do have signal but I cannot find these without driving around for a while.
Are there any known issues to do with using the external antenna?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Sorry, don't quite follow what you mean by 'external antenna port'?
What exactly did you do?

On the back of SGN, under the cover there is a socket to which you can connect external antenna to boost reception. I think this is what OP meant.
OP: You did try to turn it off and on again, didn't you? Maybe try to take out the battery and live it for some time and turn it on? For some reason it seems to help for some wired issues

If you take the back cover off there is a small plug that you can use (it works because I used it for better or worse) with a standard external aerial plug (such as you might have in your car).
I plugged an external aerial into that port at the back so that I could check my phone in a place with very little service.

yeah that thread is the FIRST thing i thought of. in summary to anyone else, on the other galaxy phones, hooking up an external antenna to the port permanently disabled the regular internal antenna by seperating a connection on the hardware. broken as in permanently and physically. needs to be sent for repair.
so i wouldnt attempt this with the nexus either!
I think that is what has happened. Damn.
Anyone know if this is covered by warranty? Otherwise I'll break out the soldering iron.
more than likely not, but it can't hurt to play dumb and try.
I use and external antenna on my galaxy nexus to get good service and i have not had any problems like that, i still get ordinary service most places without it
Which antenna you use? Can you show us where u bought it?
Yes. What model antenna? The proper antenna is hard to find.
Sent from my Nexus in Texas.
Please note that the antenna connector is ***NOT*** meant as an everyday-use port (and not built to withstand such use). This thing is for testing the radio in the factory when the GN is assembled.
If you plug in a cable every day, even with the correct connector, you will likely break the port sooner or later.

Who said anything about unplugging it? Maybe we want to mod our phones for permanent installation.

I'd like a update on this situation as well!
It would be cool to repurpose/extend the pogo pins and attach an external antenna to a desk/car dock.... I too got excited when I saw the connectors.
anything new ??

If you plugged in an external antenna then you permanently broke an internal connector to the internal antenna. So now you get poor service in all places except the most strong signal areas. I believe there is no way to fix the phone now, its hardware was permanently broke using the external antenna.

I was changing the digitizer on my Desire HD and I realize that that I broke the ribbon on the picture. Can anyone help me about what to do?Thanks in advance.
Sadly been there and done that....Only 1 solution-buy another. This process is next to impossible without lots of experience-parts are very fragile! Your best bet is to buy an entire assembly with the digitizer and lcd already attached. Much much easier, but not easy by any means still. Good luck.

Hi again.I change the screen but now the wifi won´t work.I can´t activate the wifi.It says error. It´s like i don´t have a wifi antenna.Any help?
wifi antenna
I think your problem is bigger than an antenna. The antenna is the same one as the gps antenna and is fitted in the panel around the flash leds. If you were to enable the wifi and just could not pick up any access points, then I would say it was your antenna, but if you are receiving an error, it is more likely that either the wifi module is damaged or somehow disconnected.
Do the rest of the radio parts work? i.e. GPS, Cell, bluetooth? Can you tell me exactly what the error is that you are receiving?

not much, but it is simple test for the flex ribbon.
open the phone and check the flex connection too motherboard
worst possible thing is that you ripped the flex ribbon during removal from middle chassis
2 areas worth checking-the reciever jack at the top of the phone CAN be put on in the wrong direction-red wire should be towards the top of the phone, black towards the bottom. The long, all black wire running by the camera is the bluetooth coaxial cable and maybe not on its connector properly-kind of pops on when right-check both ends. It also could be damaged/pinched running up through the phone. It could also just be a bad component on the upper board and that whole board needs replacing-a pain after what you've done already.
bluetooth/wifi and volume buttons not working
I think yamFZ6 is right. You likely have a cable not fully seated or a damaged cable. Both the Bluetooth and wifi are on the same chip so it makes sense that both of them would fail together, the volume buttons are a separate module, so they are likely all on a single cable that has issues.
One last thing to try before tearing it apart again, do a full wipe and see if it works properly. This is a long shot, but worth checking and can help with troubleshooting if you cannot find any cable issues.
Good luck,
Let us know what you find.

Looks like the black wire (blue tooth coaxial) near the camera is in toward the battery area too far...battery would be pushing in on it every time and could have broken it...admit that's a long shot...but. Starting to feel like a new "upper" circuit board is in order...hope this helps

Do you know where to buy it?
I have seen it for sale somewhere out there but can't find out where that was now. I would look for a "parts" phone on ebay. usually you get more than a fair amount of usable other parts with it. I just did this for that exact issue plus I needed a 'mid frame'. I got just about everything else with it also as the lower, main board was the problem with that particular phone, Got a usable digitizer, lcd, case, extra wires, camera etc etc all for around $60. You also get the added luxury of more practice/expertise with assembly.

Hi guys,
I recently dropped my phone on concrete, resulting in a nasty crack across the screen. Last night I received the new LCD/Digitizer and went ahead and replaced the screen (I opted to replace the LCD as well due to the copious amounts of glue used between the two parts). After many curse words were shared, I put it back together again and everything works perfectly... except Wifi.
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue, and where I should start looking to fix this? I took the cover off again to check both white (wifi?) cable and black (bluetooth?) cables, and both were connected as they should be.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Tim

Yeah, thanks for the reply. I went through it on Saturday very carefully looking for any wire or contact that was loose and unfortunately everything was correctly attached. I did notice that the bluetooth and wifi wire plugs on the lower board were *very* close to each other, so they may well have touched and caused a short. After checking everything over and reassembling the phone, wifi still didn't work I also checked bluetooth and that won't work either, so perhaps my suspicions about the wires contacting is correct.
Note to anyone else doing a repair on this phone: Be very careful that the wifi and bluetooth plugs don't touch each other. It's very easy for them to rotate around in their socket and contact each other. I'm not sure if this caused them to fail in my phone, but it could certainly be the reason why both no longer work.
Cheers

Yep, I separated the wires and still no luck :/
I also removed the wires just to see if it would at least turn allow me to turn on the wifi, but all it says is "error" in the wifi settings and I can't turn wifi on no matter what I try.
I have exact same problem: after LCD replacement wifi fails with ERROR. Also sometimes no reaction to POWER button - no power off menu neither LCD is off/on. Don`t expect any wires or so i could accidentally damage.
Solved
After dissasembling phone again i found that flex cable has not good connection to mainboard. I pressed connectors, felt some "click", reassembled phone and after booting everything is ok:
wifi, bt, volume buttons, leds while charging operating well. Attaching picture. The connectors are located right under sim card and micro sd card slots, you have to remove full mainboard and flex cable to fix that. Cheers!

Hmm. I wonder if my issue is the same. I have experienced absolutely no odd behaviour other than wifi + bluetooth not working. Everything else works as it used to. GPS actually seems to work better haha. There are two flex cables so perhaps one of them does those two things.

If you haven`t found any other damage: wires, pcb, then most probably your issue is related to exact flex cable. Yes, here are two contacts where flex cable connects to m/b, its clearly seen on photos i attached. My problem was both flex cables become loose...

Hello all,
For over six months, I have had a WiFi issue with this tablet. I must have dropped it or something because the LCD ribbon came loose but that was easily fixed because other people had the same problem. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea where the WiFi antenna is, so I am asking for your help. If someone can provide a detailed picture of it, I would be grateful.
Also, I have absolutely confirmed that this is a HARDWARE issue not a SOFTWARE issue.
Thanks in advance,

I had the same issue after re-attaching the LCD. I ordered a new back cover. There is a wire that runs through it that i must have severed when removing the cover. When i had it apart, i also removed the speaker to visually inspect it. I slightly lifted the pogo connectors under the speaker and that connect the back cover antenna terminals. I popped on the new back cover carefully, powered it up and boom... perfect wifi reception.
Good luck.

So I have learned that the rear case is integral with the wifi antenna. upon inspection of my own unit it was missing these contacts that indeed make contact with the speaker/antenna board. This unit was serviced by Samsung for a dead screen under warranty and came back without the contacts on the rear case. They must be easy to dislodge and whoever put it back together wasn't watching what they were doing.
