Pixel XL Burn In Problems - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Ok so I went on YouTube and was watching a white out video and notice my nav bars burned into my screen anyone else having this issue Google is offering a replacement but I didn't know with me being unlocked it would void me ?

unlocking doesnt void your warranty. just relock the bootloader before sending git back
i would recommend setting the navbar to immersive mode to prevent burnins

Still trying to find a decent solution to this.
On stock, immersive mode sucks. In certain applications it's immediately hidden as you try and swipe it up making it useless. Disabling the nav bar in build prop causes system and random application failures.
Switch to paranoid Android hoping pie was usable this early in, but it still needs work.
I'm afraid of screen burn because I have had multiple AMOLED panels and phone do so.
I slightly noticed it on my pixel the other day after I gave up looking for a solution. What I did is I ran one of those burn in fix apps (which actually helped) then I switched to pure Nexus.
In pure Nexus I just disable the nav bar, install LMT for pie controls, and keep the status bar immersive. This keeps everything fully functional and definitely more resistant to burn in

The navbar isn't burnt in, everything but the navbar is burnt.

I'd rather not replace my pixel though. I do not have a card that they can place a $700 hold on, and I can't send my phone first and be without a phone. I actually have a cracked back glass, and even though I have insurance I just dont want to deal with the process

theres no magical way to fix burn in
you have to get it replaced

Color balance issues and a few others

I finally got my new OP3 but I've noticed some color shifting when tilting the phone. Is this normal? Also I need help with something else. I want to completely remove lockscreen wallpaper on oxygen OS, so that it shows my home screen wallpaper. I'm rooted and I've tried deleting the keyguard wallpaper files, but all it does is show me a black screen unlike on the OP2. Can someone help?
1) there is no colour shifting on my op3, do you have a tempered screen guard on your phone?
2) when on oxygen os launcher long press on empty area of your home screen and select the lock screen wallpaper from there. its annoying that everytime you have to switch to oneplus launcher to change lockscreen wallpaper.
Isn't it possible to straight up get rid of it? I remember doing it on the OP2. By uninstalling the keyguard wallpaper file in system/users. But it keeps coming back after a black screen... And about the color balance, it only appears if I tilt my phone, which I read is a common problem with AMOLED screens all over. Can you confirm?

The only way is to set the same wallpapers for homescreen and lockscreen, there is no way to get rid of the wallpaper so you'll have to do it manually.

My GT-I9195 has some weird screen issue... (overlays that never disappear?)

I have had my Samsung Galaxy S4 mini (GT-I9195) for like 2 years.
Like 2 days earlier i tried to root it and stuff! it worked!
Then tried a rom... and i got some weird icons in the bottom right corner, they would appear at certain things like when i look at my home screen they are there... But like when i scroll down the notification tab it does not show on there... WEIRDEST PART IS THAT when i take a screenshot the icons don't appear...
Ive tried everything getting a "STOCK ROM" for my device
Even rebooting does not help..
Can somebody help me get rid of those weird overlay icons?
Any hope fixing it?

strange, it looks a bit like your digitiser is bad but I have never seen one with patterns like that. It may just seem to disappear depending on the screen colors. It almost looks like ghosting or watermark (electronic) of a digital clock....
There's an app that can test for dead pixels that might help I think someone said on another thread.

Yes strange that it happened after root etc, so you would assume it's related. Which root, rom, kernal?
The pixel app can't fix (probably) but might show you the problem or rule out the screen as the cause. I don't know which app is good, just search pay store with something like "screen tester"

Okay... I'am so confused when i tried one of the "Screen fix apps" some of them didnt even show the watermark down right corner... By the way it was the root that i used it was "S4 mini rootkit" or something like that.. Is that a screen problem or do i have to fix it physically like removeing the screen and then putting it back on (but it might be risky)..

now I'm confused! Ha! Ha! So some of the screen test apps show the screen is working fine will others don't?
Well at least if some app show all colours/tests screens with no "ghost" icon that means at least it's not a hardware issue stuck pixel etc. That might suggest it's an app causing it. (I am assuming you got your kernal and rom from a trustworthy source and not some random download site!) Boot into safe mode so 3rd party apps don't work, do you still see the strange icon like marks?

Well I'm at a loss. Nothing I can think of seems to match all the symptoms you say and the shapes. If it's not in the software then I would guess it's some damage to screen but you say it doesn't appear on old ROM. It's not 3rd party apps so must be the rom/kernal, but still seems strange. And those shapes make stuck pixels seem unlikely ......
If it was me I'd flash another ROM, if not fixed, flash another kernal, if still not fixed then flash the stock ROM to start with a clean phone and then flash another ROM.

{Request} Disable SRGB setting

Hello,
Just a request, because I'm sure Google will disable it sooner or later anyway. Is there any developer out there or anyone for that matter that would know a way to enable access to the SRGB screen setting or have an ADB command to enter that would disable it? Please let me know if it's possible and as always thank you in advance

On the Pixel 2 XL? Sure isn't the case on my stock Pixel XL (I stopped rooting once I got the Nexus 6P). The mode to toggle sRGB is right there in the developer settings under "Running Services" on the XL but completely missing in the 2 XL.
Considering how much people are whining about it, they'll obviously release some sort of update to allow people to disable it.

It's not that something is really "wrong" with the display. It's that Google for whatever unknown reason decided to tune a high end POLED display to sRGB mode which tends to wash out colors.
Coming from a Note 8, the display is noticeably less sharp. Colors are off from a more saturated Samsung panel. Yellows look dark and angled viewing has blue tints.
It's not bad, it's just different, and a lot of people are noticing it. Many from Android media outlets. Apparently Google has acknowledged the display issues and is going to modify it.

Installed the app and ran it, it only shows a list for itself and Nova. Long press on itself create shortcut doesn't do anything. Settings, home app doesn't show activity launcher. I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's not compatible with Oreo as the last update was 2015.

On 2nd thought, mine crashed on my N6p on Oreo so it may not be compatible. Try installing Nova Launcher. It comes with activity launcher. I believe you just press and hold somewhere on screen and choose activities.

How to avoid Screen Burn in?

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but was having trouble navigating threads to find actual solutions. I know the Burn in problem is common... and I am receiving my phone soon. Even though it's covered under Warranty, I'd like to avoid the hassle of sending it in for repair.
What are current known ways to avoid burn-ins?
Is updating to 8.1 preview good enough? Is there a way other than updating to 8.1 preview?
Substratum/Andromeda and load up N Navbar Pro. Switch to the dark gray Navbar. Nice and dim and should help.
Supposedly Google is going to be fading out the Navbar in 8.1 which is nice too.

If youre familiar with SDK and/or are comfortable running cmd commands, you can put the whole device into immersive mode (hiding of nav and status bar) without having to root it. (the thread says the regular pixel, but its the same for our phones as well)

Annoying Ass Issues w/ Mate 20X.. Hope You Guys Can Help

I'm planning to buy this phone. But bugs keep me from buying it. I shouldnt spend $700 with stupid issues it shouldnt have. Hope you guys know of a fix....
1. Can I turn off auto brightness without rebooting? Why no toggle for it in status bar?
2. No dark notifications... why aren't notifications dark?
3. Why does the EMUI look so outdated?
4. Some features not working with 3rd party launchers like Nova. Is there a fix?
Dont mean to sound like an ass. But I shouldnt have to invest almost a grand for a phone with issues other phones dont have. Its ridiculous. If you guys have solutions to these issues please let me know. Hope to join the huawei family without them.
.
The fact thet you're here in XDA tells me that you play more with your phone than keeping it bone stock.
1 - Nope, auto brightness isnalways ON which I find stupid.
2 - There is Dark mode that turn the system UI black including Notification panel but not Notification Banner.
3 - I hate EMUI
4 - You can't change launcher on most recent update and there no fix to that. You can on older version like 9.1.0.120 but you need an unlocked bootloader and root.
So do your self a favor and stay away from any Huawei Device and go with Oneplus or Xiaomi
Have bought this phone (UK version) but yet to recieve it.
Not being able to change launcher, is that an issue just for the china version or the international version too on the latest update? That would be a biggie.
Also are there any issues with notifications not getting through all the time (an affliction a lot of Huawei phones suffer from). I had the Honor note 8 (Chinese) and this issue made it infuriating to use. A phone without notifications working properly is a dumb rather than a smart phone in my book.
Lastly one of the best bits about the Honor Note 8 was the ability to clear the notifications by double tapping on the finger print sensor. Do you have that on the Mate 20 X?

1. Can I turn off auto brightness without rebooting? Why no toggle for it in status bar?
Dunno, brightness never bothered me
2. No dark notifications... why aren't notifications dark?
who said that ? THEMES !! it comes will all sort of colors, just download huawei theme manager from playstore, it also including fonts as well
there is also a theme editor from the playstore where you mix and match and come up with your favorite theme all from your phone.
3. Why does the EMUI look so outdated?
because it is ! next month they are releasing a new version where they copied alot from OneUI, which is a good thing and they focused on smoothness and cleaner UI
4. Some features not working with 3rd party launchers like Nova. Is there a fix?
i am using nova, i think this is a chinese version issue not global

i have it for almost 4 months, and i got the note10+ with my renewal and trust me, i sold it without even opening the box. nothing comes close to Mate 20x as a complete package these days, its really fast, battery lasts forever, great screen, amazing camera, amazing charging speeds and one of a kind speakers.

Would you please name one? Thank You
PS: yeah, pretty sure not being able to change Launcher is only a Chinese problem. Cause I'm able to change it on my Mate 20 X in USA. I used to use Rootless launcher for quite a bit. But switched back because of the ? animations.
(Quite jealous of the OnePlus animations and gestures control. I miss them from my OP 5T)

Auto brightness turns on after every reboot but you can toggle it off. It stays off until you reboot the phone again.

Is there a way through a tweak or custom rom to toggle it without rebooting?

You can toggle it ON/OFF whenever. It does not require a reboot. Adaptive brightness turns ON anytime the device is rebooted. It is not such a big deal do not worry about it if you are going to buy the device.
