How easy is it to root and install custom ROMs on this device?

Super easy. Fastboot oem unlock and you're good to go.

Sweet! So it can be connected directly to my PC with the USB cable, without splicing wires and making a bizarre kind of dock like what had to be done with the Moto 360? 'Cause I could never get that working and there weren't many custom ROMs for it.

Correct. There aren't many custom roms for this one either since it's Android Wear and there isn't a LOS Wear project floating around for everyone to modify, but there are probably more than any other Android Wear device.
I never got the 360 cable working either. I came close but something started smoking and after that, I got no response from any cable that I tried.

The one I got was the Fit, which has a small b&w screen. Doesn't seem very customizable. Oh well. The battery life is fantastic though!

This watch has really been bad since the AW 2 official update.
WiFi never wants to connect on the watch which forces me to use mobile data on my phone and actually turn off WiFi on both watch and phone.
The constant Bluetooth pairing requests.
Notifications not showing up unless I reboot both watch and phone.
I wasn't 100% in love with AW 1.5 but it worked as advertised. Thinking of selling the watch and going back to a dumb watch.

Really frustrated with new Epic

I just replaced my Hero with an Epic a week ago. I hope this was a wise move but I am having second thoughts. The Hero was barely usable until I rooted, then it was actually pretty good - slow but good. Anyway, I was looking forward to having a phone I could just USE without having to root it or really screw around with it. I guess that is not the case with any Android phone...
Biggest issue is bluetooth. It sporadically works. Generally to get it to work I have to delete it from my car radio, then reinstall - same with the phone. This is not acceptable. Again - I had similar issues with Hero until I rooted - then bluetooth was perfect. I also liked to use an app called RadarNow that I cant get to work on the Epic. Last but not least, I cannot 'mount' the Epic to my PC. PC simply doesn't see the device.
I really appreciate your suggestions! SB
Bluetooth issues with the Epic are pretty common, and caused by Samsung's proprietary bluetooth stacks, once CM7 is complete bluetooth should be flawless.
I haven't tried Radar Now so I can't speak on it, maybe another user can.
Install/Reinstall the Samsung USB drivers and use a cable other than the one included in the box.
I installed the USB drivers this morning. I hope they were from the proper place. No change. I haven't tried changing cables yet.

If you got them from the Samsung website then they were from the right place. Do that then report back, the one included in the box is a piece of junk.

I never have BT issues and here are the drivers if you're running Windows
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SPH-D700ZKASPR
I do not have any BT issues and my epic is perfect in every way - although I am on a stock rom and a patched stock kernel.
I am rooted though, but only so I can do a recovery and removed only two pieces of Sprint Bloatware; Nascar and Football
I haven't used radar now since early in my hero days, but rainy days is just like radar now & works perfectly.

OK 0 it is clear now that I am going to have to root this phone. Can someone tell me what ROM is the best for bluetooth as this is very important to me. Also - is there a way to keep the Sprint TV after rooting?
I came from the hero as well and even on stock The Epic was so much faster and snappier than my rooted Hero was. I have also never had any BT issues in fact it is one of the things I really love about it. I can listen to music all day with maybe one or two skips and this is from the music player, slingplayer, xm radio or pandora. I use a Blue Ant T1 and just bought a Pioneer Nav system for my car and they both work great. You may have a bad phone but hope you get it working.

Try EC05 Plus or SFR 1.2 with Genocide or Vision kernel also make sure you enable journaling.
I came from a Hero 8 months ago as well and up until 3 weeks ago was running a completely stock untouched Epic, not rooted or anything and have never had any issues with BT. Might be worth exchanging it if you really want to stay stock. Maybe you just got a bad device.

LG Nitro Root

OK, this is my first post, and i apologize if someone has posted on this already. I searched and didnt find anything, and since i dont see a section for this phone yet, im posting in general.
I searched via google and found nothing on the nitro, so searched for the LG Optimus LTE. The method i found for that phone did nothing, it just gave me errors when trying. So, i thought i would try SuperOneClick. Im used to Samsung devices which are super easy to root, so im not sure if what i encountered in Super were normal or not.
I allowed super to force an install drivers for the device and then unplugged the phone and plugged it back in. The root started and errored out after trying a zerg rush. I didnt unplug the phone or anything, i just immediately tried again. This time it said it was successful but when attempting to restart ADB, the software hung. I restarted, and also unplugged then replugged in the phone. Clicked root one more time, and it worked.
Anyways, im simply posting because like many others, i search these forums before going anywhere else, and im hoping that my experience will help someone else. I dont know if it was a fluke that i had to try multiple times or it was just something with my configuration. I hope this helps someone, just be persistent and it should work.

Yup, its permanent. I powered off then back on, still had root. Then just for good measure, i powered down and removed the battery. Reinstalled battery, booted back up, and still showed SuperUser in the app drawer. So i went into terminal emulator, typed su, and was prompted with the wonderful little box to allow super user. So, its functioning for me.
Nice work! Thanks for sharing your experiences. What are your impressions of the Nitor so far? Looking forward to receiving mine soon
As far as first impressions go, I'm quite impressed. This is the first LG device I've owned and the build quality seems very solid. I was concerned about the back feeling flimsy because of all the videos on the phone I had watched. They all made it look cheap. To my surprise in person it does look and feel a lot better than expected.
The screen, which we all know is the biggest feature of this phone, doesn't disappoint. The higher resolution makes viewing webpages and reading email so much easier on the eyes. Text is smooth and clear. The whites seem brighter and it makes text really stand out. Just to test it I watched Pirates of the Caribbean last night on it. It was a bluray rip in 720p and I actually ended up watching the whole thing that way because it looked so clear and I was drawn in.
This being a new device, I haven't been able to do much more than that. The only issue I have seen so far is that the sensitivity on the capacitive buttons at the bottom of the screen isn't what I'm used to with Samsung and HTC. You tend to have to tap them a little more firm than what I would expect but in all honesty that could also be a direct result of the screen protector.
One final note, this thing is a lot snappier than I expected. Other than right after a fresh boot, I have yet to experience any lag.

hey guys... i just ordered mine yesterday, waiting for it to be shipped. new to android and this rooting thing... if i recall correctly i read somewhere that after rooting you can't remove every single piece of bloatware or your phone may not function properly? if this is true is there a list for this at&t model? thanks in advance
for some reasons, after i did root.
then do a Privacy -> Factory data reset
the phone is alot more snappier and faster!
Worked for me! Used Superoneclick 2.3.1.0. Forced the Driver install and it worked!
Took a couple tries for me as well, kept hanging up on step #7 but worked fine after I switched USB ports on my computer... thinking it doesn't like USB 3.0.
Thanks so much for the post!

Now that you mention it, that may have been part of what was going on. I was using the 3.0 ports on my computer as well. Its just habit because when i charge my phone on the other front ports on my tower, it gives feedback through my front audio. Anyways, i guess if you are using USB 3.0 and it gives you an issue, switch to 2.0 and see what that does.

Can verify I am perm rooted also. After resetting it does seem faster. Is it my imagination that the speaker is also louder?
I've tried a few things and can't get it to work. Would someone who has had success with this method please post a step by step guide? Once plugged in do we select Charge Only, Mass Storage, PC Software or USB Tethering? I assume that USB debugging should be checked? I plugged my phone in and the new hardware wizard launched. My machine never could find drivers for "CDC Abstract Contol Module" or "LG Android USB Device". I looked around on the LG website and found some drivers that didn't work. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
--Okay, I got it to work. I finally found the right drivers on the LG site. Somehow, USB debugging had become unchecked. Once I installed the drivers and checked USB debugging again and ran Super, it worked. It's so nice to have a device that has been out for just a couple of days and already have it rooted!

hm..thanks for this information, i was able to root the phone. Lesson one, make sure you are in debugging mode..dang it, took me awhile to figure that out..
Again thanks for the info
Whooooooooooooo after only 20 tries trust me i counted them i got root.
Not sure why, but this phone seems to disable USB Debugging when you switch modes from charge only, to pc mode or to any of the other modes. Maybe im just not remembering correctly, but i am fairly sure on my samsung and HTC devices that it would stay enabled.
Use overseas?
If I root the Nitro, will I be able to use it outside the USA? If not, how can I ?
I assume it comes locked to ATT, correct?
So I love this device so far, but the biggest concern I have is battery life. They obviously hadn't broken in the battery before it shipped, but after two to three drain/charge cycles it seemed to improve a lot.
After I rooted and removed all Bloatware I could find, installed setCPU and setup a profile for low power with the screen off and been testing it today.
With 6 hours of moderate (with occasional heavy) usage it dropped from 100% to 55%. This was occasional web browsing, lots of pulse reading, played a few vids, 20min of gaming, downloading about 5-6 apps, GPS off the whole time, and had wifi on for about 3 hrs. Ran some benchmarks (6434 antutu). To summarize, to me it seems average battery life, not anything to write home about but it's about even with what my Captivate used to hold up to.
Anyone else got suggestions for ways on improving battery life without hindering performance?

Any Updates on Unlock for 4.4.2

Are there any updates on an unlock method for 3.11.605.1? I'm having a pretty serious problem with streaming Internet Radio apps cutting out with the screen off after about 5 minutes. The app Data Connection Fix has helped out a lot, but I wanted to try out other ROMs to see if I can find 1 without this issue. It's such a shame that I'm having this issue because the HTC One seems like such a great phone. Unfortunately, streaming Internet Radio at work is the main thing that I use my phone for and my older Droid X2 on 3g outperforms this phone in that aspect. It's so sad a newer 4g device has this issue and makes me wonder if I should ever mess with another HTC device or Android device period. I wanted to get away from iOS, but I'm finding that almost every Android device I've been using needs to be unlocked/rooted to fix really simple features that should work right out of the box and with every update. The Bluetooth A2DP quality problem with most JellyBean devices has been a nightmare. That's what made me ditch my LG G2. I tried just about every custom ROM and music through bluetooth was horrible no matter what I tried, even on the newer KitKat ROMs.

I'm pretty sure there's just a setting you're missing that keeps the radio from cutting out. I used to stream Sirius XM and had the problem but I remember getting it fixed somehow. If I think of it I'll let you know. And no, you can't gain s-off on 4.4.2. If you read at all on here, you'll know when you can.

Could you please tell me what setting? I get great service where I work and haven't had a problem with any other phone. I even went to Verizon and got a new SIM card. I've tried everything, starting with factory resets and clearing the cache. I have sleep mode off, app data sync on, mobile data is not restricted or limited, I've tried with and without beats audio enabled. The audio cuts out about every 5 minutes for 5-10 seconds and comes back on, just to cut out again for 5-10 seconds every 5 or so minutes. It's very annoying. The only thing that really helps is the data connection fix app, but that's not 100% reliable. I even called HTC and Verizon about the issue and they are looking into it. I would have normally just tried a different ROM, but I'm unable to unlock/s-off/root my phone because I'm on 4.4.2(3.11.605.1). That's the only reason I even called them. I currently have my phone up for sale and I'm seriously thinking about switching my service to sprint. I'm tired of paying top dollar for used phones to keep my unlimited data on Verizon. For all I know, there could be a problem with the phone, but it seems like a software issue to me. Everything else works and runs great. It's just that streaming Internet Radio is the thing I use most.
Have you tried this?

Yes I've tried. It has nothing to do with beats audio. For some reason it just drops the data connection for like 5-10 seconds with the screen off every 5 minutes or so. I don't know if it's incompatible apps with 4.4.2 or 4.4.2 itself. It could also have something to do with the HTC sense software. It could just be the way this phone communicates with the Verizon towers. I have no idea and it's very frustrating. The last time I had a problem similar to this was when I had an LG Optimus V on Virgin Mobile and it would lose 3g and I would have to turn off the data connection and turn it back on. This is different, though, because I have 4G LTE all the time. There just seems to be a delay in receiving my data to where the Internet Radio cuts out before it signals for more data. Then by the time I receive more data, it's too late and the sound has already cut out. I did a speed test and I'm getting about 30mbps download and around 15mbps upload so I know I'm not being throttled. The only thing that helps is the data connection fix app.

I did some more testing and I don't have any issues on WiFi and I don't have any issues if the screen stays on. It's only on cellular data with the screen off when I'm having issues. I noticed the Power Saving feature was removed in 4.4.2 and instead there's a sleep mode option. I have the sleep mode option off, but I'm thinking my issue might be because of a power saving bug in the HTC software for 4.4.2. If anybody knows anything about this, please post. Thanks
Think it will ever be unlocked?
I would SO much love to have airplay enabled on my HTC One. I came from iPhone, and have a full home surround sound based on Airplay, which I now can't use. Airplay is available only through a root application, although i have my phone on 4.4.2. Any thoughts on if and when this will ever be unlocked? Otherwise it's a huge reason for me to not have this phone...

Well it took beaups and crew about 1 month + to get 4.3 unlocked. Plus it seems more devs are having issues with 4.4.2 so it could be longer. At this point hope for the best and expect the worse.
I seriously don't know why all of these companies continue to try and lock out everyone's phones (and spend unnecessary money doing so) when someone will just outwit them almost every time. If a dev REALLY wanted this done right away it would be done! Point blank... It's a cat n mouse game and Verizon will lose. I just purchased an HTC One on 4.4.2 and have full faith that it will be cracked wide open anytime now. No one can stop somebody that is determined and smarter than the person who created the bottleneck. Here's hoping to a quick S-off method soon :victory:

It's not unnecessary money to them honestly. In Samsung's case they are trying to prove that their devices are secure enough to use for government agencies. Do you think they care that a few rogue hackers find exploits from time to time? No, they just need to convince some corporate goon that his e-mails to his mistress won't get intercepted. Speaking of the S4, it's been locked down now for about 8 months so I'd say they're getting pretty damn good at it. They have root I believe, but the bootloader is locked down tight on every S4 other than the very first firmware that came with the phone. I'm not sure what HTC's motivations are but I'm guessing they need to play ball with companies like Verizon in order to be able to sell their devices in the future.
Another thing that is hurting us is that Android itself is getting more secure. They are adding features that prevent exploits so it makes it harder for your average dev to find a way in. In the future we may be forced to buy developer editions to be able to do anything. That's worse case, but you never know.
Just like you I had "faith" that a developer would crack the S4 and I could finally have freedom. It never happened. It still hasn't happened. That's the main reason I switched to HTC. I'm not saying you should give up hope, but if you can't stand a phone to be locked down you should be looking into buying a different phone just in case...

Valid points! That's why I said "almost every time"... I really just need root and I would be happy but I switch devices so much that I probably won't even have the One (my 3rd HTC One) by the time it gets exploited (if) it does. And I do understand that Google has to close a lot of security holes so that they don't look like they are such a terrible company by allowing all of these terrible "viruses" into our phones which I have never had any issues with. I do agree with you though that we will probably all be buying dev phones sooner than later. Thanks for the insight!
Just another reason to leave Verizon and go get a Nexus device.

Pair multiple devices?

Is it possible to pair the 360 to multiple devices?
Not to use at the same time but one at the time, i use multiple devices across the day and it's so annoying to reset the 360 everytime I switch devices.
As far as I know you can't it can only be paired to one device at a time

Considering that it requires a factory reset to pair to another device.. That probably wouldn't work.

Actually, it's AOH5, but I haven't figured out the changes yet.
Not sure if it's the fact that my phone was rebooted during the update, but it's very smooth after the update.
Same here. Anyone knows the changelog?? :\
54 packages updated. I didn't get a chance to pull the update. Probably just the stagefright stuff, samsung fixes, and at&t making their preloads more annoying. I don't see anything new popping up at me.
New APK: /system/priv-app/AmazonInstaller_ATT/AmazonInstaller_ATT.apk (this is in addition to the previous amazon shopping apk.)

I'm believing the performance part. I can't put my finger on it, but the phone is running nicely post update.
Mine's been having issues connecting to and keeping connected to LTE, maybe this fixes it?

This is going to sound really strange...but can anyone who has updated their phone -and- has a Samsung wireless charging pad that has been unreliable with maintaining a charging status see if it works better now?
I have read others who have Note 5s say that a software update helped fix the problems they were having with their Samsung wireless charging pads so I was wondering if this update helped ATT Note owners.
I'm trying to induce a flashing blue error in my pad right now, but so far I've re-positioned my phone about four times and it's stayed solid blue each time. Kind of frustrating because I just processed a refund for it via Amazon.
May just be my imagination but it seems that my fingerprint reader is a lot quicker and more accurate. I had been having issues since installing a tempered glass screen protector, but now works the first time every time.

You know, now that you mention it, my Koolpad is working much better where before the update was very specific on where the phone sat. Weird...

Yeah, It's like a complete reversal now. Before I had to struggle to find a position that kept the wireless charger blue (charging) but now I can't seem to get it to switch to flashing blue (not or minimal charging). Very strange. I mean, it's awesome...but I'm still hoping to get some more feedback before I cancel my Amazon refund.
I'm still waiting on a miracle root. I'm gonna hold off for a little bit. Lol
