HS-12W:My preferred BT-Stereo Headset has no more warranty.

because in order to get it, I had to cut the original earbuds off...
How did I get to do this? (either read the story or jump to the end.... )
I had first tried out the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 and found out that it was not enough compatible with the HTC Universal (e.g.: after a call it would not continue to tranmit the music stream)
I then tried the HS-12W. All important features are supported, just ID-Tags are not transmitted nore is the name of the caller (but the number is).
On top of it it has a RDS-FM radio built-in...and looks good too...I decided I wanted to keep it.
Only problem: I could hardly understand anything....the original earbuds had a shape/size that just sat so strangely in my ear that the front was not exposed to the inner ear but rather covered so that the sound level was just too low.
Since I am one of these guys who do not give up easily when they are convinced of an idea, I was looking for a solution to the problem.
I remembered an enhancement item for the original ipod earbuds: I bought a couple of Griffin Ear Jams. I cut them in a shape to fit the Nokia buds and glued them to the rubberborder of the ear buds. Not bad at all. It was loud and had much more bass than before.
It did not maybe look supergreat with these white add ons, and frankly, the more I was listening, I found the sound to be lacking treble and somewhat sounded like from under a pillow. My personal belief is that the original earbuds are lacking treble in order to reduce the transmission of some white noise caused by the BT connection...and with the Ear Jams in place that enhanced the bass the pillow sound was perfect. It was really not bad at all, but as I said, with the time I noticed it more and more...
Before buying the Nokia, I had used Sennheiser CX-300 headphones when listening to music. An excellent value for money, it rivals easily headsets of double the price.
Now, all of a sudden. with the Nokia, I had no use for the Sennheiser anymore.... It was just laying there, on the board, getting dusty.....
should I never ever be using it anymore? Such a good pair of headphones...if only the Nokia had better earbuds...

Yes, i did it: I cut the original earbuds from the Nokia, freed the Sennheisers from it's cables...and transplanted them onto the Nokia HS-12W....
Yes, it worked. And it sounds just soooo good.

where did you cut it? just near to the earbuds or at the connection to the neck? (the other end of the cable)?
My problem is with the Universal + HS12W combo is that its SOOOOOO stuttering :evil: . If its on me, the Uni is in my hand, it can stutter... it can always stutter... I ask: why?? Maybe it's not because of the reception quality because at home I can move to the other room and it doesn't loose the connection just the stuttering factor rises... Is it the bandwidth or lacking CPU?
I'm starting to think about throwing it to the wall...
other con: radio sensitivity is very BAD.

I cut them somewhere in beteen the earbud and the microphone so i did not lose the speaking function. (sennheiser is only headphone).
i agree with the suttering issue. i tend to believe that it is more the pda side..bad antenna construction..but at the end who cares if it does not work...i must say the way i am using the combo i can live with the shortcomings. i also feel the stuttering increases with the transferred bitrate.
as far as the fm reception is concerned: i am not unhappy with the quality, obviously it is n ot noise free most of the time, but i get my main stations in a reasonable manner, i find. (and then most of the time i am listening to internet radio streams..i am on a 5GB plan...

I can agree with the bad radio construction on the uni side.. This was mentioned in an other topic too I think . It's good you have 5GB plan.. we have only 200MB for a reasonable price.
How do you control the bitrate between the devices? Does the mentioned registry setting (hklm\sw\ms\bluetooth\a2db\setting) working? I've started to play with it, but originally, this key hasn't existed.
i was thinking about the lifetime of this device, because of the battery (not replaceable)by user, and the fixed headphones... looking ath the price of that headset i don't want to throw it away after just one year..

re. bitrate control I cannot comment. I just meant to notice that with higher bitrate e.g. different quality of radio streams, the connection is more sensitive since the buffer holds less seconds of sounds.
I only have a problem if i use the universal in the rear pocket of my pants. the body is a real obstacle for bluetooth waves, it seems. not very elegant, but it works: if you hang the display over your shoulder so it hangs down on your back, there is no stuttering if the htc is in the rear pocket....(at least in my case).
There is a screw at the back of the device...no I have not opened it yet...lol...but I would guess one can have access to the battery easily, the question is only where to get a new one from... :?
(Between you and me: gadget freek that I am, I would be surprised if I still have it in one year....but who knows...I really like it...)
Exchanging against the Sennheisers for me was a great solution, the sound has improved so much, I did not expect it, I must say.
I have to admit: I love to adapt things to my needs....
There are headsets where you can use the headphones of your choice, but I think in this case the mic must be in the device itself, so it will be quite far away from your mouth..or maybe it could have a mic on a cable that you have to clip somewhere high on the shirt..I don't know how good this is supposed to work or how convenient it can be...

Headphones with built in controls

Im used to using my iphone headphones with the built-in mix and music controls (lost them). Was wondering if any earphones with these features will work with the DX to answer/hang up calls and control the music player.
Im on my way to best buy for an unrelated purchase but would like to know what options I have before I get misled by a sales agent there.

I have the Motorokr S9. They are bluetooth. I really like them. I have been looking to upgrade and there are a lot more out since I first purchased. I would definitely do some research online before buying from Best Buy.
Update: I went out and upgraded from the S9 to the S9-HD. They are huge improvement from the old model. The sound is so much better. Battery life is still about the same.

V-MODA Vibe Duo Earbud Headset (Gunmetal Rouge)
Try doing an amazon search for those.
I ordered them a few weeks before I got my DX cause I knew I would need some headphones. And was I pleasently surprised! These 26$ earbuds EASILY surpass the quality of my friends' $100 Bose and $60 Skull candy or w/e earbuds. Plus they are very well built, with a braided cord and a cell phone call start/end button. Oh and the color matches the droid x.
Try em out! I guarantee you won't be disappointed

The Beats line by the Doctor has Control Talk, which may or may not work completely with Android (leaning towards may not). I believe only the pause
and volume control work, not the next/prev track. Not cheap though. I'm looking at getting the Gaga's for my sister. They better tuck her into bed at
night too for $130!

I want the beats sooooo bad. Can't justify that kinda $ though.

+2, I've had mine since I had my old 6700, they work great.

I'd also +1 the S9HD's if those blasted ear bud pieces weren't so prone to falling out and getting lost while being transported in a pocket or getting pulled out of a pocket (I can't use them any more b/c this happened to all 3 sizes of ear buds, and I have yet to find a way to purchase replacements w/o buying the entire headset again).
I have a set of rocketfish over-the-ear BT stereo headphones w/ music and call controls. They work quite well and though they take some adjustment on my head due to me wearing glasses, they are also fairly comfortable..... and they're not at all as expensive as the name-brand motorokr's (motorola if you couldn't tell).

I agree, very good pair of earphones. Only catch is that the default music player wont pic up the control button. No big deal tho cause you got a nice widget on the lockscreen that allows u to pause, forward or rewind.
I got the Dr Monster Beats too but i THINK they are fake. Friend gave em to me, anyways, the v-modas sound wayyy better and have a very nice deep rich bass!
If you go to amazon you will read a lot of negative feedback, to be honest my v-modas still working just fine!

Virtually all headphones/ear buds with audio controls are designed for Apple products. Apple is a terrible company, they make everything proprietary; they switched the mic and ground connectors so they could force manufacturers to make headphones that would only work properly on their bass-ackwards newer Apple products.

God, I hate Apple. Support Zagg for being nearly the only company in existence to recognize what Apple has done, and accordingly provided a product for everyone else with. Apple would do the same thing with Bluetooth if they could, but they don't own the Bluetooth standard, thankfully; which is why all your audio controls work on any Bluetooth-enabled device out there. (as long as it's not a really old one)

i have the in-ear beats. They are AMAZING. the controls don't work though.

The Nokia TRRS standard is what everything else uses, Tip = Left channel, first Ring = Right channel, second Ring = Mic/Control feed, Sleeve = Ground.
The Apple TRRS standard uses, Tip = Left channel, first Ring = Right channel, second Ring = Ground, Sleeve = Mic/Control feed.
Funny thing is Nokia started to use that TRRS layout well over ten years ago in Asia. Almost immediately China and Japan adopted it as an industrial standard and every phone manufacturer since has used it too.
Then Apple comes along years later, with all its infinite wisdom on how to do things that will alienate themselves from the rest of the market and switches the second ring and sleeve. So now the mic and controls for Apple headsets wont work with ANY other phone, and you can’t use any other headset with the iPhone unless it is Apple configured.
Things get even more complicated when apple decides to alter the amp setting for the output of their audio. This is even more interesting and dumbfounding: Apples headsets bass range can be driven at a much lower signal power, that means that you can still use the Apple TRS headphones for audio only (no mic, no controls) in any other device BUT you can’t properly use TRS headphones manufactured for the rest of the industries phones because they require a higher signal power to drive the low end. So if you try to use a standard set of headphones with an Apple device the bass will surely suffer. Those issues happen all the time with iPods because of the same configuration of the TRS standard.
With TRRS you get other issues caused by the signal grounding through the control buss, every now and then output from a song will bias a diode or transistor just right to skip the track or stop the song or do a whole slew of different and wacky things.
So if you ever see someone having this issue with a smart phone tell them to get non-Apple headsets.
If you see someone with an iPhone that’s having this issue, tell them to get an Android device. No, seriously though, tell them to get an Apple headset. Same thing goes if they are experiencing poor bass.
So it isn’t that there is only one brand making the correct headsets, its more like a few brands making headsets that only work with Apple. An easy way to identify the difference is Apples control standard is referred to as TapLine. Just buy headsets that aren’t TapLine or TapLineII. A vast majority of ALL the headsets on the market use the Nokia TRRS standard which is what everything other than Apple is configured for, you shouldn’t have any issues finding a headset that will work for audio and voice.
If you want to use Bluetooth, then you have a world of options for headsets, pretty much everything works. I like the MOTOROKR S305, inexpensive, uses micro USB to charge, and has FULL control, even with voice commands.
If you want to save your battery and use corded headsets with FULL control, then be prepared for disappointment. Right now the Droid X does not support phone controls through the headset command controls. You should still be able to control your music player (maybe, that is still a hit or miss), but if you want to answer and end a phone call then you only have the option of setting the phone to handsfree. With the phone set to handsfree answer and the headphones are plugged in, the phone will answer and you just have to allow the caller on the other end to terminate the call.

OK, I am confused with your post. You acknowledge that Apple does things differently and that Apple headsets won’t work on other phones, but then you list a link that is for an Apple configured headset. The description on the page states: “ZAGGsmartbuds music control for iPhone” and then contradicts that with: “Compatible with almost all smartphones with 3.5mm jacks” and then it states: “Some non-US smartphones, such as the Samsung i9000, have a unique jack configuration that requires an adapter for use with the ZAGGsmartbuds.” which is yet another contradiction because that phone is the Galaxy S Android phone that uses the Nokia standard. So the description on that page is pretty much saying that if you want these to work with anything other than an Apple device then you need to use a converter.

REVIEW of Sentey B-Trek H9 Bluetooth Headphones

Sentey has outdone themselves. This is an amazing product for a decent price!
In the box, you get the headphones themselves, the really nice travel case, an auxiliary cable, a USB to aux charging cable, and an instruction manual.
First Impressions: These are pretty nice! The unit which I received does have some scratches upon arrival, which is unfortunate. I have uploaded a picture of the product with the scratches with my review. However, I quickly turn this on by holding down the power button, connect to it on my phone with Bluetooth (it shows up as B-Trek H9), and put them on. They feel VERY nice and comfortable. Music sounds pretty good too. The carrying case, at my first glance, looks very nice. Let’s see how these are after using these for some time.
After using this for a while, I can say that these are really nice headphones! I would like to mention that once you cross a certain limit in volume, people around you will be able to hear your music. So if you are on a plane ride and using these, I recommend to keep the volume low. The headphones do a decent job with blocking out sound. They also have nice bass, but you obviously cannot compare these to Beats headphones. However, in the price range that these headphones are in, the sound quality is superb! I have had a blast wearing and listening to music with these headphones. They feel very comfortable, and not at all irritating. I must note that they do jut out a good amount on either side of your head, but that isn’t something you can exactly control. These headphones fit my head nice and snug (after I adjusted them). The carrying case is really nice and durable. If I were to drop the case, I have a really good feeling that my headphones and contents would be completely fine. They do a great job at carrying the headphones and its accessories around safely and easily. I would like to mention that making calls with these headphones is also great! The quality of the call was great on both ends and both people could hear each other perfectly. When talking with the headphones, background noise can be heard. I do not recommend using these to talk to someone while in a public area around other people or around the TV. While using the headphones, I noticed that the buttons labeled “skip forward” and “skip backward” do the opposite of what they are labeled as. Trying to skip forward will take me backward, and trying to skip backward will take me forward. This was a small annoyance, but nothing I couldn’t get used to. Another weird thing was one of the voice outputs the headphones would say after disconnecting. It would say, “Your device is disconnect.” It should be saying disconnected, but that is another small issue. Because the amazing performance and quality outshines these small annoyances, I could not let it affect my rating for this product. It is simply remarkable. When you plug in the USB to aux cable to charge your headphones, the middle button will light up red. It will become green when it is fully charged. One big complaint that I have is the method with which it is charged. It is charged with a USB to aux cable. This is the first time I have seen a cable like this, and I think it would be easier for everyone if the product could be charged with a micro-USB cable.
Overall, this is a nice product that I would recommend to someone who wants a nice set of headphones for a price that isn’t too expensive.

IMPORTANT: Avoid buying these headphones!
They are terrible headphones with thousands of failures.
To begin with, the bluetooth link is very bad. It takes a long time to connect and many times it fails. And do not even think about wearing the headphones when you make the connection, because at the moment it connects you will hear the phrase "YOUR DEVICE IS CONNECTED" in a very loud volume that destroys your ear. So also when you turn it on and turn it off, the same thing happens.
Another point that seems totally disastrous is the fact that anyone can connect to your headphones, so you can be in a library, on a subway or in any public place, and people can detect your bluetooth connection and connect to it, even though you already have it connected to a device (to your notebook or your cell phone). And the worst part is that when you connect to another device, it repeats the phrase "YOUR DEVICE IS CONNECTED" with an atrocious volume.
So also when the battery is low you start to hear an extremely unpleasant sound at a very high volume, something like a horns.
I set the volume to the minimum, nevertheless it makes heads explode, I do not even want to imagine what it would be like at a medium or high volume level.
The sound is good but not so much. However, when you are not listening to any sound or music you hear a very unpleasant cutting sound to supposedly save battery. I sincerely consider it lousy, because I usually use them to watch videos or similar, and every time I change the video that terrible cutting sound is heard.
They are the worst headphones I have bought. I do not understand how people can make such bad headphones, I feel really cheated!
I can not reach words to criticize this **** of headphones, if they could be called headphones. I feel very disappointed and my score is 0/10. I will not even give it a point, because the mistakes they have committed are unforgivable.

[Review] EasyAcc DP100 Bluetooth Speaker with Aux Socket

In Short
As soon as I opened this speaker I was really surprised by the quality and the look of this device. Its really simple to use and has a great sound quality given its size. The grip on the bottom means that it sits solid on any surface. The Aux in gives added versatility to the speaker if you are wanting to use it for non-bluetooth enabled devices. Overall I really love this device and its taken over as my new favorite bluetooth speaker, its a really good looking device, living room worthy.
Detailed Review
Before even picking up the speaker it looks like a quality piece of equipment, the design is very swish, it's the type of thing you’d be happy to leave out on display in your living room. The design has is all matt black with a chrome edge around the top. There is a mesh wrapped around most of the main body that meets at the back. Up on top is a rubber button for play, and volume up and down. There is also a multi colour LED and a microphone hole. Round the back is a flick on/off switch, a power input and an Aux in. The Aux in is an incredibly handy feature and something I’ve not seen on many bluetooth speakers, but it is a welcome one! Melding older tech with new, the ability plug in items which aren't bluetooth enabled into your new shiny speaker is certainly a welcome change. Another plus round the back is the flick on/off switch, it feels nice to be able to have that level of control rather than a button where you cant tell if its on or off. I really like having the switch. Overall the design feels very well thought out.
Also included in the box is a very nice feeling bag for the speaker, along with Aux cable and a charger cable and an instruction manual. Again inclusion of all the cables and the bag feels like a welcome addition and something some manufacturers sometimes skimp on and leave out, so its nice to see that EasyAcc have chosen to include these. The specifications listed in the manual have a charging time of 3-4 hours, playback of 15-20 hours, talktime 8-10 hours, and standby of up to 300 hours. This is all made possible thanks to the included 2200mah lithium ion battery which is built into the speaker. The listed power output for the speaker is 4W.
The setup process is nice and easy, same as any bluetooth accessory, the LED flashes to confirm a successful pairing. Routinely when turning on the device it makes a sound to let you know its on then another beep to let you know it has re-connected with you phone or bluetooth device. Unfortunately if you want to use the speaker paired with more than one device you have to delete the first pairing as it will always try to reconnect to the last device which is a bit of a shame, it would have been nice to be able to pair with more than one device.
The sound quality out of the speaker is great, ive listened to several songs on this with varying levels of bass. The speaker only struggles when I crank up my phone and speaker volume to max with the odd crackle on heavy bass sections, but overall theres a nice sound quality good enough to keep me happy. The wrapped around speaker grill gives the impression of potentially more than one speaker but the sound is directed out of the front only, so dont assume more than one speaker is hidden in there.
Using the speaker as a speakerphone has worked well. People can hear me fine in my office no problem and there is no feedback or issues when using this in a call.
Overall im really enjoying using this device, I’m finding myself reaching for it a lot for listening to music or for speakphone calls, and im preferring it. I think this is a very well made, quality feeling device.

EarFun TW100 - cheap and (ear)fun airpods

I'm a big fan of wired headphones. Nevertheless, I have decided to explore what the 21st century has to offer finally and bought myself a new pair of shiny Bluetooth headset from EarFun, which is a producer of my new Bluetooth speaker Go.
Free or TW100, the new product from EarFun, is a decent alternative to the more powerful (and of course pricey) product from Apple. While the Cupertino's pride sells its product for a whopping $160 (it's Apple, duh!), EarFun is a more pocket-friendly, as their headset costs just $50.
Without further ado, you can see the photos in the attachments.
And here are the functions:
Free uses almost the newest Bluetooth 5.0 to communicate with your smart device. The quality of the connection is satisfying. I have experienced some hiccup during my walk to work, but skips were very rare and short. According to the producer, the headphones work up to 15 meters from the source of the sound. This is a great result. I haven't tested it, because my flat is too small If I had to be picky, I would say that these headphones might have been a little louder, but the good sound isolation makes the music really easy to listen without a hearing loss.
The headset comes with a fancy case, which is also a charger. According to EarFun, one charge can give you up to 6 hours of constant usage and extra 24 hours stored in the case's battery. Headphones charge relatively quickly, and the case can be recharged with a USB-C cable or a Qi pad (I don't have one to test it). The device is also waterproof.
In overall, EarFun TW100 is a decent device and I can easily recommend it. 8,5/10. You can get it on Amazon.
