I have an intentional (non US) Nexus 6p and an international HTC 10 (non US).
I have installed LineageOS on both but on the htc-10 the mobile networks settings are different and more complicated. Also it the HTC displays LTE and the Nexus 6p 4G.
Both are using Australian sim cads on Australian networks, why the difference?

im really lost in the terminology behind all of the different phone standards... umts/hspa/gsm/evdo/1xrtt/lte/wimax/etc etc etc...
Verizon (and Sprint) are CDMA dominant networks. But Verizon LTE requires a SIM-card:
(1) Will a Verizon LTE phone accept a GSM SIM and work at optimal speed? e.g. Vodafone SIM in UK
(2) Conversely, can't the "Global/GSM" Galaxy Nexus take the Verizon LTE SIM and work on Verizon's network?
(3) Is the Verizon LTE's version of Galaxy Nexus a hybrid CDMA-GSM phone (like Sprint's Photon) ... i.e. if I get it unlocked, I could also use it with most international services?
The unlocked global GN is 750$. But if Verizon's contract price is 300+200 [term. fee]... AND it works internationally... clearly its the way to go
1 - No.
2 - No.
3 - No.
You're confusing SIMs for radios. Each phone has a different radio that can connect to EITHER GSM (UK model) or CDMA (USA model). The GNex cannot connect to both.
The GSM version will work in the US with a T-Mobile or AT&T SIM card on a GSM network. You can also take it on international trips (changing SIMs or roaming), as most of the world uses GSM.
The CDMA (Verizon LTE) version will work on Verizon only.
HTC One V GSM edition (US Cellular, Virgin Mobile) does not have the right frequencies for T-Mobile / SIMple Mobile 3G service. I have used T-Moible and SIMple Mobile SIM with GSM phone any only get Edge speeds and network.
T-Mobile officially states that 3G/4G, for the frequencies support on this phone, will be rolled out in America starting in the fall.

The unlocked GSM version could be used on Tmo USA. The US cellular and VM version cannot, as that version is CDMA and carrier locked.

sorry! Yes! GSM version of phone can work on T-Mobile, but do not expect 3G service as of now.
I'm heavily considering moving to the Nexus 7 as my full time exclusive device, and utilizing a VOIP such as Google Voice for calls (I'll still have a phone around for lengthy calls if need be). Going this route I'm looking at the LTE supported model. I noticed on Google's site, they list an AT&T, T-Mobile, and non carrier specific option. Are there actually any differences in these as they are all listed as unlocked?
I couldn't find any differences. There is a non-4G Nexus, a US-4G Nexus and an international 4G Nexus. Those 3 models.
I think that there are really just two versions of the Nexus 7 with cellular radios; one for North America and Japan, and one for "the rest of the world." https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/3248332?hl=en
I believe that the options for T-Mobile and AT&T listed in the Google Play store are so that you can buy the Nexus with a SIM card pre-installed from either T-Mobile or AT&T, but both have the same radios. The only difference between the two LTE models seems to be that the North American model connects to bands 13 and 17 (Verizon and AT&T, respectively) whereas the other model (I'm assuming that's the "unlocked" model) connects to 7 and 20.
The rest of the bands that each support can be matched up with their respective carriers by looking at these tables:

HI i have a htc one m7 originally from verizon as we all know the verizon htc one comes unlocked but when i took it over seas it only work on edge with a carrier that has the same bands that at&t uses any suggestions (tigo colombia)
Yeah that's all you can get with the Verizon model. Verizon uses a lte frequency than the gsm carriers.

This phone only supports GSM HSPA (3G for GSM) of 900/2100... Please check the FAQ
AT&T only supports 850/1900 which is why you cannot connect to 3G.

Hello Everyone,
I want to buy the new nexus 5x but i am concerned with the network compatibility.
I am living in Egypt but I am travelling to Canada and I am willing to buy it from there but not sure if it will be functioning back in Egypt, can anyone advice? at the mean time I travel a lot to America and not sure if I bought the International model that it will work back in America (Canada & US)
why isnt there a single universal model just like the iPhone...
Appreciate your advice guys
You can check from
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
and
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UMTS_networks
Then check Nexus 5X support from
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_5X
From those two, looks like all carriers in Egypt use 2100 for 3G which is UTMS Band 1 which is supported in all Nexus 5X variants. So you should be able to use any model of Nexus 5X back in Egypt.
I bought one from USA and now using it in Bangladesh. Cellular data is switched off from the very beginning but it seems the cellular network it's getting is continuously poor except unless in open area and the battery is simply draining. I haven't still able to figure it out if this is due to the version or any software update will fix that.
I have used the Nexus 4 (US version) and other devices in the same area but none of those ever suffered the cellular connectivity.
It seems by simply choosing "2G" from 'Cellular networks ->Preferred network type' (reboot) extends the battery life A LOT..
