[Q] Difference between EYE_UL and EYE_TUHL? - HTC Desire Eye

Same as the title. I have been looking into different ROMs and whatnot and one of the biggest things confusing me is that there are often two versions of the ROM, one for UL and the other for TUHL. What are the differences between the two? If it helps. I own the AT&T variant and I'm not sure what that one fits into

[Q] Difference between Desire Z and G2?

I have done some rummaging around these forums and, correct me if I am mistaken, found that they are the same thing, except they are running different "Roms" or "kernels" ( I don't know the right terminology)
If that is true, and if the hardware is exactly identical, does that mean I can go to the Desire Z part of the XDA forums and download and install anything from there, including ROMS?
And if that is the case, why make two separate forum groups for practically the same phone?

I would believe they are the same but I think the Desire Z has the 4GB internal. That us G2 owners were promised
If you did a search several threads like this already exists.
But to answer your question they are basically the same phone.
Before root and s-off they run on different setup's
G2 - runs on Vanilla android and as a result has a smaller /system partition as vanilla is smalelr
Z - runs on htc sense, this takes a lot of apk's and as a result the phone has a larger /system partition.
They both have slightly different key layouts on the hardkeys
after s-off they are theoretically the exact same device as all differences can be changed.
Custom roms will work on both and kernels will work on both etc etc

Good question. Apparently the mods are looking into it. Basically the main differences are ROM differences, not hardware. So just like with any different device you can get ROM incompatiblity issues. But that's no reason to keep the forums separate though, other devices don't have separate forums for separate ROMs.

Not true. The DZ and G2 have exactly the same memory. 4 GB in theory but setup from the factory to present 2 GB to the rest of the hardware. Just advertised somewhat misleadingly by T-Mobile.
Another major difference is the UMTS band support. The G2 only supports 1700/2100. The Desire Z only supports 900/2100. The Desire Z NAM (or Bell version) only supports 850/1900.
Though I guess this shouldn't affect the use of custom ROMs (though as stated earlier, the differing partition sizes might).

but after s-off you can amend the partition sizes anyway if you have to
Can flashing a new ROM edit the partition table for you? (Though a computer engineer by trade, I'm a recent changeover from the world of WinMo phones and am still learning Android-specific stuff.)
If not, I'd imagine users who are not so carefeul simply flashing ROMs without knowing if it'll fit in their system partition (like a G2 user trying to flash a stock Sense from the Desire Z or something like that). Though as you said, easily avoidable with a little research.

well stock sense ruu's won't flash and won't fit on a g2
however I believe currently all custom sense roms do fit on the g2's partition table anyway.
But yes you can build a rom that will change the partition table, although no one has for the G2 yet.
only difference i see is stock android vs sense android. I think this is an advantage as most people like switching between the two from time to time.

[Q] is One X = XL when rooting, installing rom, etc

Hi,
I plan to buy XL instead of HOX. (I am in Singapore, Singtel offers HOX and XL)
i have 2 questions:
1. Can I apply all the modifications intended for HOX to XL?
2. If no, I dont see any forum for XL, Do you recommend to get HOX instead?
I think XL has LTE, so the ROMs of HOX will not fit and probably rooting is not the same because the XL is in this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
The AT&T One X forum is for the phone internationally known as the One XL. The One XL has different hardware and radios, so none of the stuff made for the One X will be compatible.
It was pretty stupid of AT&T (and HTC) to call the AT&T version One X. AT&T One X is clearly a OneXL variant (they are not identical). HTC One X (the global one) is completely different hardware.
So there are 3 phones, 2 very similar (dualcores, AT&T and One XL) and 1 completely diff (quad-core tegra3).
One XL vs AT&T One X(L).
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4614&idPhone2=4572
As per your original question, if modifications are very important to you, do first look in "AT&T One X/OneXL" forum and see how the rom scene looks over there. From rom development standpoint, international OneX is better bet but personal opinion, One XL is better phone (sadly not available here in Norway).

One XL released much later, but I agree
There were rumours about XL but I didn't think it would come that fast and would had wait for it.
And its the same story with other phones, like Galaxy S3. AT&T version is a dual-core qualcomm s4 based instead of a quadcore. What the hell is wrong with this carrier?
A few years ago htc/samsung renamed their phones for usa, with different look/exterior but same hardware (desire/droid incredible, hero/eris, sensation/amaze/vivid, galaxy s/vibrant/fascinate etc).
And now they go out of their way to have different hardware that looks identical with exact same name..
Thanks.
I guess I better choose HOX over XL.
4G is new in this area,
and development of XL pretty slow and boring, i think.
I posted same question in AT&T forum, till now nobody reply and give the difference.
I found many active roms developer here.
Roms are lovelier here, and more to choose from.
I read more problems, than fixes and good news over there.
no i dont think so,
both have different specs..
btw is it out yet the XL in singapore?how much did it cost?
I have few clarifications to help me decide if a certain rom (or rooting instruction) is applicable to my phone.
(because I dont know if HOX from ATT is applicable to XL from Singtel.)
Lets say I want to do rooting or install custom rom;
What are the BASIC criteria in order for me to say that this rom (or rooting instruction) is applicable to my phone and it wont brick it (if it may brick it)?
What should I check first?
. cpu type? (dual core, quad core?, S4, tegra? where can I find this specs in my phone)
. Firmware version? (1.72, 1.85, 1.?? How do I check again)
. radio??
AFAIK radio is different between ATT and XL (international),
but is ROM still applicable on both even if radio is different?
What the hell/difference of Rogers HTC one X by the way?
I appreciate the response.
General consensus from reviews on the web say XL or Snapdragon One X are faster than Tegra One Xs and are better at battery life.
Community of the S4 seems growing every day I am sure it will have plenty of development, already it has most of the same tweaks as with Tegra ones.
I also was undecided as both work on my country. However, I decided for the Tegra one due to:
1. Easier bootloader unlocking vs AT&T One X
2. Cheaper than imported Rogers/Telus unlocked One X
3. Tegra Zone games: I am not a gamer but I am enjoying the quality of Tegra games
4. Resale value: yes in my country most people will prefer a QuadCore 32 MB than a Dual Core 16 MB phone . They dont know the story behind it unless they are geeks so resale value will hold over time vs SGS3.

AT&T (and every other LTE carrier) has to use dual core s4 versions of CPU because quad core exynos and tegra3 dont support LTE.
They are now using different hardware with exact same names probably to avoid customer confusion and having 10 variants of the same phone.

This is true to an extent. I believe tegra does support lte but it requires a separate modem whereas with the s4 the LTE modem is part of the SoC already.
Tbh I would prefer the s4 chip as it rapes the tegra in most benchmarks and battery is better. Htc and nvidia are full of crap, the companion core and all the other "battery saving" tweaks htc implemented (like completely breaking multitasking) are pointless as they just try to make up for the fact htc short changed us with the size of the battery in the HOX. The battery life still sucks.. They should have just put a bigger battery in in the first place a la galaxy s3.. /rant

I have a few questions. I'm coming from the att note 3, im not new to the custom rom world at all. This will be my first lg phone. Anything I should know about the flashing process with this phone? Are roms universal? Are there any GPS issues?
From the end-user perspective, there is nothing really unique about flashing ROMs. Just load up into TWRP and do the traditional wipe/flash/reboot routine.
The ROMs for different models are not universal. If you have a D855, stick with the ROMs marked as D855 compatible.
GPS seems to be pretty stable in the custom ROMs (or at least the KitKat ones, no idea about Lollipop). They make take a little longer to get a lock than stock, but it works.
Also, one more note, if you have any device except the D851 (T-Mobile variant): be patient with the devs. Though the device has been out for several months, development for it really only just started. The bootloader "unlock" exploit just got released a few weeks ago, so not many custom ROMs are around yet. If you have a D851, this doesn't apply. It is bootloader unlocked from the factory.

I see. So as of right now the tmo variant has the most support since the bootloader was originally unlocked? Also if you've used a device with TouchWiz how is lg's skin compared to TouchWiz on Samsung phones? Are there any annoyances that you have with this phone?

LG's skin is much closer to stock Android than TouchWiz, and therefore much cleaner. It also seems to be much less bloated. I still prefer the stock look over either, but that's a personal preference thing.
My only real complaint with the phone is that LG added some serious oversharpening in the low level firmware (where ROMs can't touch). It gives everything this strange halo around it, but it's only noticeable most of the time on text. Many people say that the sharpening isn't there at all, which leads me to think that not all models have it (or maybe you just need good near field vision ).

What support is there for the 805?

Picked up the 805 and it feels strange not having many options.
I have a One M7 which has a ton.
What kernels and Roms are designed for this?

Why have the S20 Forums been combined into one useless mess?

Except the cameras are different. When people talk about the camera, you don't always know which model they're talking about. And as far as I can tell, the Ultra camera reviews thread is just gone.
I much prefer it as most news/mods etc are generic across the three models. If not then just add it to the thread title.
Only thing I wish was that the old sites redirected you as its taken me two days to realise ?
Personally I think there is too much variation in the models for it to make sense having one forum.
3 Different Models - with TOTALLY DIFFERENT CAMERA SYSTEMS, different accessories, different specs..
Further subdivided by the Snapdragon / Exynos division.. you effectively have 6 distinct software environments / hardware setups.. all merged into one mess.
Utterly stupid

Seems like we've switched to a system that's geared towards backseat browsers, while owners have to sift through 66% more ****e for no good reason.
At the minimum, they should have edited all the existing thread titles to be preceded with "S20U", "S20+", "S20" based on the forum they came from, so at least we know which model that topic was originated about. Going forward, if it's a model specific topic, like cameras or battery life, people need to start tagging them as such.

Agreed. At minimum there should be separate forums for Snapdragon and Exynos, simply for the fact that Exynos (1) is rootable and (2) has its own share of issues.
I, personally, prefer it that way, as most tweaks, settings, circumstances are for all three models, as they are the same base. People (me as well) were posting these issues on all three forums to reach everybody.

Your camera questions are still in this forum section:https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...cus-issues-t4061919/post82056967#post82056967.
I proposed the merge. I want to remind you all that:
First, not only current owner but also potential buyers would try to find information on XDA forums. Merging 3 forums into 1 make it easier for everyone to find information, especially for potential buyers who have yet to determine which model to buy.
Second, "XDA-Developers" is a development/hacking/mod-centric forum. It is actually harmful to development/mod/guide efforts to have 3 forums for the same model (development- wise), each with reduced userbase. As you can see, I posted a "HOW-TO Root S20 series" guide recently. I may not have done so if a. posting to one forum but userbase is too small to get me motivated, b. posting to all three forums but i will get exhausted by maintaining three identical threads. Merging three forums into one gives additional motivation to developers and actively encourages developers to support all three model instead of only the one they own.
Preliminary researches suggest that the ROM and Kernel sources are shared between these 3 models. No additional development effort will be needed for different models which use the same processor (apart from changing model names, toggle model switch in kernel configuration).
With mostly same software and hardware, reviews/problems/guides/QAs are kinda shared. Merging into one makes it easier for people to find information and threads can have much wider audience/engagement.
Development-wise, there are only two variants there:
S20 Series (Exynos) and S20 Series (Snapdragon)

First, please be civilized and refrain from using profanity. The decision was made for a reason.
Second, there is actually not much variation there.
Yes, camera system is different for the Ultra but the benefits of a merged forum significantly outweighs the slight inconvenience of a "[S20U]" thread attribute or some slightly less useful information getting into your eye.
Accessories, regardless of their sizes (S20, S20+, S20U), were usually made with the same manufacturing. So if someone says, "The quality of my S20 LED case by Samsung is super poor", your S20 Ultra LED case may be affected too.
Specs. There is nothing different actually. You may say display, but S20, S20+ and S20U use the same model of display panel, specifically S6E3HAB. Size is the only difference. You may say RAM, but models have 4G and 5G variants and they use 8G and 12G respectively.

Snapdragon is different from Exynos. That's true. But apart from processor, everything is the same. We now have two different development forums, one for Exynos, one for Snapdragon.
Snapdragon doesn't automatically make your device un-rootable. The problem is the two greedy big carriers in U.S., namely Verizon and ATT, not Snapdragon. All Greater Chinese, Korean (and maybe
Japanese) models are unlockable.

"But apart from processor everything is the same" - not true at all, different regions often have different camera suppliers (sony or samsung ususally), there is also evidence that the image signal processor is different between Snapdragon and Exynos Variants (resulting in significant image processing differences, not to mention different camera hardware!, and different base software due to the processor, region and carrier variations). The one thing these forums had above and beyond most forums - is a history of solving developer problems, group problem solving /raising issues. When the waters have been muddied this much by combining 6 significant variants all in one place, all the problems already divided by region, software version etc. have been needlessly muddled at the cost of problem solving/highlighting efficiency.
What has been gained? - well perhaps 'browsing convenience' - Which should be more important in a forum with 'developers' in the title; browsing convenience, or problem solving precision?
Why cant we make it so you can view either by device or as a family of devices.. why cant we do both? -- it seems to be a growing trend in the space that phones have lots of variants.. why choose precision of information OR viewing convenience.. - just make it possible to view the same topics with filters for either preference.. then nothing is lost.
So little has been gained for so much lost.

Would it not be possible to make multi-device variant phone like this have forums that can be viewed either collectively or by device - can't there a link to each view type - or simple filter system?
It's better this way. Thread closed.
