What support is there for the 805? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Picked up the 805 and it feels strange not having many options.
I have a One M7 which has a ton.
What kernels and Roms are designed for this?

[Q] is One X = XL when rooting, installing rom, etc

Hi,
I plan to buy XL instead of HOX. (I am in Singapore, Singtel offers HOX and XL)
i have 2 questions:
1. Can I apply all the modifications intended for HOX to XL?
2. If no, I dont see any forum for XL, Do you recommend to get HOX instead?
I think XL has LTE, so the ROMs of HOX will not fit and probably rooting is not the same because the XL is in this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
The AT&T One X forum is for the phone internationally known as the One XL. The One XL has different hardware and radios, so none of the stuff made for the One X will be compatible.
It was pretty stupid of AT&T (and HTC) to call the AT&T version One X. AT&T One X is clearly a OneXL variant (they are not identical). HTC One X (the global one) is completely different hardware.
So there are 3 phones, 2 very similar (dualcores, AT&T and One XL) and 1 completely diff (quad-core tegra3).
One XL vs AT&T One X(L).
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4614&idPhone2=4572
As per your original question, if modifications are very important to you, do first look in "AT&T One X/OneXL" forum and see how the rom scene looks over there. From rom development standpoint, international OneX is better bet but personal opinion, One XL is better phone (sadly not available here in Norway).

One XL released much later, but I agree
There were rumours about XL but I didn't think it would come that fast and would had wait for it.
And its the same story with other phones, like Galaxy S3. AT&T version is a dual-core qualcomm s4 based instead of a quadcore. What the hell is wrong with this carrier?
A few years ago htc/samsung renamed their phones for usa, with different look/exterior but same hardware (desire/droid incredible, hero/eris, sensation/amaze/vivid, galaxy s/vibrant/fascinate etc).
And now they go out of their way to have different hardware that looks identical with exact same name..
Thanks.
I guess I better choose HOX over XL.
4G is new in this area,
and development of XL pretty slow and boring, i think.
I posted same question in AT&T forum, till now nobody reply and give the difference.
I found many active roms developer here.
Roms are lovelier here, and more to choose from.
I read more problems, than fixes and good news over there.
no i dont think so,
both have different specs..
btw is it out yet the XL in singapore?how much did it cost?
I have few clarifications to help me decide if a certain rom (or rooting instruction) is applicable to my phone.
(because I dont know if HOX from ATT is applicable to XL from Singtel.)
Lets say I want to do rooting or install custom rom;
What are the BASIC criteria in order for me to say that this rom (or rooting instruction) is applicable to my phone and it wont brick it (if it may brick it)?
What should I check first?
. cpu type? (dual core, quad core?, S4, tegra? where can I find this specs in my phone)
. Firmware version? (1.72, 1.85, 1.?? How do I check again)
. radio??
AFAIK radio is different between ATT and XL (international),
but is ROM still applicable on both even if radio is different?
What the hell/difference of Rogers HTC one X by the way?
I appreciate the response.
General consensus from reviews on the web say XL or Snapdragon One X are faster than Tegra One Xs and are better at battery life.
Community of the S4 seems growing every day I am sure it will have plenty of development, already it has most of the same tweaks as with Tegra ones.
I also was undecided as both work on my country. However, I decided for the Tegra one due to:
1. Easier bootloader unlocking vs AT&T One X
2. Cheaper than imported Rogers/Telus unlocked One X
3. Tegra Zone games: I am not a gamer but I am enjoying the quality of Tegra games
4. Resale value: yes in my country most people will prefer a QuadCore 32 MB than a Dual Core 16 MB phone . They dont know the story behind it unless they are geeks so resale value will hold over time vs SGS3.

AT&T (and every other LTE carrier) has to use dual core s4 versions of CPU because quad core exynos and tegra3 dont support LTE.
They are now using different hardware with exact same names probably to avoid customer confusion and having 10 variants of the same phone.

Excellent point, and yes I believe you are right. However I doubt having 2 different hardwares with same name is any less confusing.

This is true to an extent. I believe tegra does support lte but it requires a separate modem whereas with the s4 the LTE modem is part of the SoC already.
Tbh I would prefer the s4 chip as it rapes the tegra in most benchmarks and battery is better. Htc and nvidia are full of crap, the companion core and all the other "battery saving" tweaks htc implemented (like completely breaking multitasking) are pointless as they just try to make up for the fact htc short changed us with the size of the battery in the HOX. The battery life still sucks.. They should have just put a bigger battery in in the first place a la galaxy s3.. /rant

[Q] One X vs One S in terms of development

Hi,
I ask here for your help because I am planning to buy a new phone in the near future, and I am currently deciding between the One S with Snapdragon S4 and the One X with Tegra 3.
I would be very, very grateful if someone could tell me which one is better from the perspective of custom ROM development. Which one has more stable and less buggy CyanogenMod or similar AOSP-based ROMs? I've been lurking here in the One S and One X sections for some time and I can see that neither of those two phones is bugless, but I don't know how severe these problems are, if it is a dealbreaker or you can live with it. Also I get the feeling that the Tegra 3 is lacking in terms of development support and Qualcomm devices are better suited for future development. Is that so or am I wrong?
Another thing which I consider is the display quality, although it is not the main one. I know that the One X has a denser screen with better color reproduction than the One S, due to being an LCD panel, but the blacks are not as deep as the AMOLED on the One S. Is there a big difference? Do the blacks shine too much at night? It would be very cool if someone could post a good photo of the One X displaying a black screen at night.
Just one more question, how does the picture quality from the Sense camera compare to picture quality from CyanogenMod? I know Sense takes better pictures because it is optimized for the hardware, but is it a big difference?
Thank you really much for your answers, I aprecciate your help.
PS.: I posted a similar question here in the One S forum, if you want to take a look.
This is what HTC says on Reddit (and that answers the part about Nvidia vs Qualcomm quite honestly):
To address an issue that’s top of mind for many folks here, we recently announced that we wouldn’t be updating the HTC One X and One X+ beyond Android 4.2. Without the support of our chip manufacturer Nvidia, it made a global update of One X and X+ devices impossible. However, in US the One X uses the Qualcomm chip and an upgrade would be possible, but we didn’t think it would be a good experience for our customer base to update the X, but not the X+. This update caused a huge stir amongst owners and we’ve heard you loud and clear, so we’re now actively exploring how we can make the jump to 4.4.

So, Qualcomm FTW. But one thing I can't understand is how the Nexus 7 2012 got KitKat, when it's using the Tegra 3 too. It still feels like Nvidia abandoned it on 4.1, though.

The nexus 7 has the T30L while the OneX/X+ use AP33/37. Nvidia still provides support for T30L but not for AP3x.

[Q] [HELP]One (M8) to One (E8).

Can anyone port any custom rom(s) of One (M8) to his younger brother One (E8)? I'm not a developer but I think changing device ID and camera modules will enough (Fingers Crossed). Specs are similar to One (M8). No one is caring about this High End phone. Sometimes it feels like I made a mistake by choosing E8.
We totally need some ported ROMs on the E8!! BUMPED!
Don't expect too much support to none, most devs will jump to the M9 instead of stepping back to the E8
Please, guys, any ROM, or kernel? :C

[Q] One M8 Custom Roms converted to Butterfly 2

Hey everybody,
I know I maybe should've started this thread in Butterfly Q&A section but there are far more geeks here in M8 section as M8 is more available internationally, so Mods please don't move this thread, if possible
So I was considering to buy the nice Butterfly 2, everything seemed perfect in it, until I found out that it's really terrible in developing stuff, it even doesn't have a section in xda, even though the original Butterfly and the nice old Butterfly S have!
So, the question is, is it possible to have M8 Custom Roms converted to Butterfly 2 without much struggle, as they are literally the same, aside from camera and body? I mean is it done for other similar phones such as E8, or maybe Xperia Z2 to Z3 etc?
I've read some topics about converting Roms by mostly copy-pasting files for similar devices but, those were just too old, Android should've changed a bit now...
I'm really disappointed as I finally found Butterfly 2 as the perfect phone for me, but there I am with another thing to stop me buying it :/
The Z3 is awesome for me too, but misses IR Blaster, nice audio quality, has those flaps for ports, has less details in camera even though it's 20 vs 13, and doesn't have nice looking hot design of HTC devices...
Any help is appreciated, thanks

Why development is going slow for m9?

It's been months since m9 was launched but still we find very less development here compared to other recently launched phones .. There isn't any official cyanogenmod projects for the device yet,nor there are many custom kernel options. There aren't much activity in general except on sense rom.. Is it because less and less people have bought m9?
I am sure we would love to see more ROM and kernel options.

I noticed this however going from S4 to M9 is a huge difference. 2 years there abouts and samsung and a few other brands have a larger fan base who will ALWAYS buy those phones and so development is much more frequent.
Give it time and im sure things will pick up, especially once the CM team crack it and deliver what will undoubtedly be an awesome rom. That will pave the way for more AOSP / CM style roms which im very much looking forward to
have faith mate.
You mean compared to the S6? If you think this place is slow, go check those forums out. Considering how many more of those have sold, compared to the M9, S6 development is dead as a doornail.
From what I've seen, development for anything not Nexus has slowed quite a bit. Not as many people are modding their phones, I think because Android and the manufacturer skins have picked up a lot of the mods people used to want to root for.
That being said, things should pick up once CM is official.

The development is slow because of the exynos chipset. IF it was snapdragon, the story wouldn't be the same.

The development here is slow because of the 64 bit processor. If it was 32 bit, the story wouldn't be the same.
Most mods have become baked into roms. Hell we can theme easily now. What's the real point of having 70 copies of the same thing.

what are you talking about there is atleast 10 different ROMs and CM12.1 almost fully working
