Hello,
I've found countless threads but I'm still unsure as how to root Shield.
There are people who are saying it's working and some that aren't working.
I've also heard that it will erase everything and I don't want that. I heard by some people that rooting won't erase anything. I've rooted 2 phones in the past and never lost any data.
Can someone please help me out? I just want to disable the lean back launcher on Nougat. as I stupidly enabled it.
Thanks

Rooting on the shield erase everthing. The bootloader must be unlocked and that erase everything.

Ok, so I have started copying everything off Shield. What instructions can I follow without messing it up?
Also, will this still give me the Latest OTA Updates and Fixes?
Thanks
Bump. Anyone, please?
Thanks
Solved. Followed this and it worked smoothly.

Is it possible for the V20d to be rooted?
I've checked many threads and none said anything about this version.
Yes, I have that version v20d-eur-xx. MRA58K, Android 6.0.
Looking at my notes, I applied for bootloader unlock code from LG and after unlocking I flashed the following files
https://dl.twrp.me/h815/twrp-3.0.0-0-h815.img
https://download.chainfire.eu/897/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip
There might be newer or better but these worked for me. I recall you need to be carefull with the file versions not to get stuck in a bootloop. Also wipe cache and dalvik after flashing.
Please do some searching to confirm and good luck with rooting.

Does anyone know anything a out the current status of Flashfire on the Pixel (XL)?
I've tried to backup data and the screen turned black, afterwards I hard to hard reset the phone to get it working again.

It's probably because he got sick of being asked the same question over and over again.
If I read the XDA forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/paid-software/flashfire-t3075433 searching for the word PIXEL. This app appears that people have this working on Pixel XL, but not since the November release

Thanks for your comment.
I was not asking why he was not replying to my questions - I've got total sympathy for that because the number of messages he might get must be insane.
My question still stands: Obviously Flashfire is not yet aware of the different layout of partitions on the Pixel phones. Does it still work correctly? If not, did Chainfire say anything about Flashfire being fixed to work with the pixels? I couldn't find anything, that's why I'm asking here.
I assume any announcement on it working on the Pixel will be made when it works on the Pixel. Much like superSU. (hope that doesnt sound like an ass thing to say) it's just the way things have been. unless someone else works on something and it looks like they are going to beat another dev to the punch, you don't usually see any info, much like boot-loader unlocks, rooting of a certain phone etc.. i.e when there is a bounty and team blahblah looks like they gonna take the glory, BANG! suddenly there's a solution that said dev was already working on secretly but wasn't planing on releasing any time soon but since there's competition, kinda thing. Know what I mean?
SuperSU is going to be a much higher priority for him to get going reliably with twrp and the new partition layout.

Hey just curious what you mean by this. I know that TWRP has some bugs but I thought everything with SuperSU was worked out
I'm thinking they are still working on having them coexist without one wiping the other

No they work fine, especially SuperSU. TWRP is in alpha but works for installing and most other things but backup and restore does not yet.

What? SuperSU working perfectly with twrp. As others said twrp still in alpha and some features are iffy, but SuperSU is solid.
Without Flashfire, how do we install a new OTA update if we are rooted? What's the proper/safe procedure?

Are you verizon?
Because if you're verizon then add Verizon to your profile so people can appropriately address your questions.
And add your freaking state/country while you're at it. :good:

You can sideload the update via ADB supposedly.
I've never used that method though.
I just flash the entire update on top of my old OS using flashboot and my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/info-how-restored-to-stock-soft-t3494478
Make sure to remove the -w from the script if you don't want your old data/apps wiped.
Then re-root your phone afterwards.
Nothing to worry about there if it's not a Verizon phone.

I do it like in this guide http://www.droid-life.com/2013/02/1...date-a-nexus-without-root-or-custom-recovery/
Very helpful, thanks guys. I did it and it worked - ran flash-all with -w removed. I wonder though if there's any downside to doing this that may not have been identified yet, such as extra space being taken up or diminished performance (even if negligible) possibly due to some duplication of data or something like that.

No, no downside at all. Flash all without the -w is how most people do it. It could even be argued that it is better.

Which part are you getting stuck on? To be honest most of the guides I've seen have several unnecessary steps in them, but it does require much patience especially if you're a beginner or been out of the game for awhile. I would stick to the original thread by ryanbg and pay close attention to the first ten pages of that thread. That's when everyone was learning it at the same time and a lot of the basics are covered.

And your bootloader is locked still? If you're not sure, are you able to boot to a custom recovery (twrp)? If your bootloader is still locked you will have to use Odin and flash the bpa1 firmware to get back to lollipop (5.1.1). Once you're on 5.1.1 you can unlock and root. There currently is no other way to unlock without using 5.1.1.

And almost forgot .....you cannot have sdcard used in unlock in phone unless you formatted it.
I bought my buddy a phone to use while he was working with me. 4 days later he quits and didn't want to give the phone up so he wiped it while logging in locking the phone. I bought the phone used off Facebook perfectly unlocked so no receipts or anything. I know that pretty much stops me from proving this is my phone but my question is if it's possible to just flash the stock firmware over the already stock firmware, wiping the phone? I've done all the little tricks and have gotten in the settings, installed test dpc etc but it has the newest security patch and I can't get it unlocked that way. Any help would be really really appreciated. I don't really like moto phones and id like to recoup some cash from it.
Anyone? I would even take the paid service route if anyone could tell me it's possible. I've gotten into the settings but none of the usual apps or tricks work to bypass the lock. I know this is a grey area because of security issues but man im having a hard time accepting this thing as paper weight

Already done that. Doesn't format the encrypted memory where the Google info is stored, I'm assuming.

HI
After first Android 10 update for Xiaomi A2 Lite my phone was bricked and I had to factory reset. Since then I didn't update my phone but somehow it downloaded the latest update. So I turned off auto update from developers options. But someday ago it started overheating and became laggy even the ram management is poor now plus the bluetooth problem. After that I saw people downgrading to Android 8.1 and they said it made the phone much better. Then I thought that I should get back to Android 8.1 as well. But the problem is I never rooted my phone or any phone and never updated the phone manually. So I don't have any kind of idea about these.
Now if anyone can tell me the simplest and the best way to downgrade to Android 8.1 without any problems(Like SIM problem or anything). A video would be best. I don't want to mess up and factory reset because I don't want to lose my data again.
Thanks In Advance.
Your help is very much appreciated.

As I mentioned above I don't understand these things. I read that thread and every comment but it went all over my head. That's why I am asking for step by step simplest and problem free procedure. If you can make a video about it it would be best.
Thanks.

If you google "how to flash stock rom mi a2 lite", you'll find videos describing what you should do. Good luck.

So I saw some videos in youtube but have some questions
1.I have to wipe my data anyway for unlocking bootloader. Right?
2.Will there be any problem like sim swap, sim not working? If yes how to solve that.
3.If I lock the bootloader after downgrading will my phone become normal like it was?
Thank You.

Is better you flash full stock rom (more minutes required) like me on january 2020.
If your problem is how to use MiFlash, you can find many video about MiFlash.
