Where ist the GPS antenna? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
I'm looking for the GPS antenna, but i can't find it. Can anyone send me a Picture from the antenna?

Here

Hey, i've already seen this, it is inaccurate. I need an accurate position from the GPS Chip

Hey, so anyone knows where is GPS antenna located? I'm asking, because after putting copper plate in case to prevent bootloop problem, GPS doesn't work. Any suggestions?

I saw that, but it's still not obvious where is GPS antenna located, now it's 1 of 5 chance that I will be correct.

Hi,
user octavioromo and me had the same issue.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/mod-copper-heatsink-t3679209
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75586886&postcount=26
I could not use the copper shim because the gps issues and changed to 0,5mm thermal pad with thermal paste.
(the 1mm gave me a blue dot on the screen)
I tried everything, paper under the contacs on the backcase etc... no chance. only changing the copper shim to thermal pad fixed it for me.
i dont know why only some phones have this problem.

I had no GPS after removing the motherboard once. I fixed it by lifting up the little connectors that touch the back cover antennas. (I used tweezers) I guess I pushed some of them down when I removed the motherboard. I hope this information helps you....

This is for Nexus 5, not 5X.
The only way for Nexus 5X is to use thermal pad instead of copper :good:

Gps problem?

Hi all.
Recently I went to use my gps and it detected me around 200-500m off from where I was at. I refreshed it and problem still exists. Feel like uninstalling gps, but how? Any ideas/solutions? Thanks in advance.
What rom are you running? dont know what to say, i run stock with 2.3 and the gps has always been spot on so my guess its the rom thats probably not the best cause the desire gps is known to be very good.

Thanks for quick reply. Followed the guide, problem still exists. Any other options/fixes?
My (wife's) Desire developed a GPS problem as well. Eventually I had to disassemble the phone and bend the antenna contacts a little bit to fix the problem.

So there is no other solution?
In my case, no. The problem was not software or faulty hardware, but GPS antenna contacts that came loose (probably caused by dropping the phone).
I just posted this under another thread, but here goes again (this was a while ago and I can't recall exactly where all the contacts were that I bent slightly). If your phone is no longer under warranty it is a worthwhile procedure; it will save hundreds of dollars/euros if you can fix it this way. In my case the GPS eventually stopped working altogether - it would never see any satellites under GPS Status, never mind lock on.
I fixed it by opening up the phone and making sure all GPS connections were good. If you are reasonably handy you can follow these instructions to dismantle the phone:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXZqIjtFoAU
The GPS antenna is shown at 2:47 (it has a connector at both ends - make sure that both are snapped into place).
But before you disassemble the phone that far, at 1:49 in the video ("Remove the antenna") try the following: when you have removed the antenna you will see several copper contacts (similar to the two vibrator contacts highlighted in the attached photo). I seem to recall there were 4 copper contacts under that antenna cover. Gently bend the contacts slightly upwards - this will either ensure better contact or (as with my phone) re-establish contact. To remove the antenna is very quick.

Awesome guide. However, since I'm only 15 I don't think I can do it. The tools that are required are currently not available...
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
It's not as complex as it seems - to remove the antenna you only need a Torx T5 screwdriver to remove the 2 screws. It will however void your warranty if you're still under warranty. In case it helps anyone else, you need 3 tools to disassemble the phone to the point where you can access the GPS antenna: a Torx T5 screwdriver, a small Phillips screwdriver (the type you get in cheap precision screwdriver sets) and a plastic guitar pick (to gently pry the phone apart starting at the indents provided in the phone's body).
Actually there are also contacts to be adjusted on either side of the camera, accessible at 2:11 in the disassembly video (and not only under the antenna at 1:49 in the video). These screenshots shows all the contacts I adjusted (in addition to the GPS antenna).

[Q] Wi-fi issue turned screen issue...

Hi guys
Need a bit of emergency help (or maybe a hug).
I had major wi-fi issues and believed it to be the usual antenna problem described everywhere. In my wisdom, I thought the procedure to sort out the connector under the back-cover looked easy.
It was! I opened her up, "re-sprung" the connector - all good. However! My screen will now not switch on. There are no obvious issues internally or externally - I think I know which connection on the motherboard is for the screen but still nothing.
The phone is definitely on as I am getting notifications. Can anyone suggest a possible issue I have overlooked? Maybe a hidden connector somewhere? Or is it off to the mobile phone shop for me.....?!
Thanks
James

Probably not what you want to hear, but was it actually really simple to fix the antenna?!

Haha - yes. It's quite obvious when you open it up what the issue is. The connector is a small "spring" that makes contact with some copper plate on the backplate. This spring obviously gets depressed too far and won't spring back to make the desired contact. In theory, easy to fix. In theory...

One X Low/Zero network signal!

Hi, i recently got this one x (13 months old, out of warranty)
and found that the signal reception of this phone is quite weak!
I tried with SIM Cards of different mobile carriers but same issue with all of them..
it doesn't captures any signal at most of the places however in the areas with high signal strength, 3-4 signal bars appear and phone works fine!
Is there any fix to it? (Hardware issue or software?)
Also, the G-Sensor appears to be faulty, sometimes rotation works and sometimes it doesn't!
and the proximity sensor doesn't work at all!

What ROM are you using? If stock ROM, try doing a factory reset. If not, try reflashing the ROM or try another ROM.
Hardware fault it is, connectors are in very bad shape, nothing can be done
how do I do that

do what?
Hi,
I desperately need your help/advice.
I'm suffering from the same problem as you are, running my HTC One X on Stock NON-Rooted.
I've tried to factory reset several times, but still, I'm barely getting 1-2 bars of Signal Reception at Max, while in most places I get NO SIGNAL!
What did you do to fix your phone? Which jumper were you talking about?
I'll appreciate your advice...
Zach.

I was on stock rom, restored stock backup multiple times, did factory reset, none worked,
ultimately just one jumper, did it all!

There are some pins on the motherboard that makes contact with the antenna inside the back cover. With time, those pins bent downward to motherboard and makes poor contact with the antenna. You need to remove the back cover and repair those pin or bent them back up.
look at this thread, its for the wifi issue, but essentially the same solution. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538

Thanks, I've already tried the pins solution. I even replaced the whole back cover.
I guess my only chance is to replace the inside coax antenna cable, unless the problem lies inside the motherboard somewhere...
Thanks anyway...

G3(D855) Blue screen error

I went to my technician already twice but the blue screen keeps coming back. I need to go back every week as the technician heats the soc with some paste I suppose. After one day of usage it goes back to blue screen then the phones becomes dead. Is there any fix for this? :crying:
Thank you for the help guys.
Replace the motherboard or heat it up with a iron
Motherboard is quite expensive. Do I need to put thermal pads as this heating method seems to fix the error temporarily.

Yes definitely try putting thermal pads or plastic. Heating the motherboard is only a final temporary solution, most useful for just backing up data off the device.

I don't know.
It might work for a long period of time, it might not.
If it works you can hope for the best and if you want to prolong the life of the phone, make sure you are not stressing the phone and using it while overheated.

One thing I noticed also when I did the paper trick by putting a piece of paper on the left side of the camera the phone works for awhile too. Any reason for this why it works?

The problem is caused by bad quality solder and a phone that tends to go very hot. If you use your phone often while hot, the bad quality solder with the chip mess up after a while and causes you to lose connection.
The pressure you're putting with the paper clip or plastic helps restore the connection by pressing on the chip.
Thermal pad is best since it helps with the cooling also. Avoid metal since they conduct electricity and might interfere with the radio signals.

not a common problem, though someone did mention something about problem on 2G or cdma on LOS14 recently, maybe try update modem or flash a different one.
(if you have I9195 here are modems that already been extracted from stock roms https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...dem-samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-gt-i9195-t3390780)
If still weak signal then it could be poor grounding of pcb or antenna connection, remove battery, remove internal cover, check connections/reseat leads also tighten screws of motherboard/remove check for tarnished/corroded contacts. (if you put a small piece of wire on the test point (micro rf connector) with battery in you might suddenly see signal strength spike meaning it's your antenna/connection is the problem)

it might not be that, did you test antenna with little cable on test point (just take battery cover off). I was just giving an idea of possible problem. Some people have found just tightening the screws that hold the motherboard fixes it. It could be something else entirely like eg software, is it the same on all modem/baseband & other rom?
