I don't know what "all kinds of stuff" means. Please try to be specific about what you tried, for that type of statement to be meaningful or helpful in any way.

It appears you are new to the lingo and terms, but just so you know "flash" is just a general term meaning to install firmware or software to one of these devices. Just saying you are trying to "flash it" doesn't really tell us what you are trying to do. I see from a later statement, that you seem to be trying an RUU. Even so, please be specific as to the exact version number and file name.

Possibly and probably. But we'd need to know what RUU you are trying, to answer that question.
Also, was the phone stock before you had the problem (no mods like unlocked bootloader, root, etc.)?
On the bootloader screen, does it say UNLOCKED, RELOCKED, or LOCKED near the top (one of those)?
Hi, thank you for the responses, as pointed out I am new to all of this so sorry for not being clearer with my original post. OK my phone is stock never been messed with, it was from carphone warehouse in the UK and is carrier unlocked. The device itself says "locked" and is S-on. The stuff I tried was factory reset, recovery etc from the options listed with no luck, so basically guys I'm stuck as what to do and how to do it? Any further help would be appreciated please.

So this is the first time I've properly bricked my phone and cannot fix it whatsoever. I am constantly trying to fix my phone now for 6 hours and I am at the end of my tether. I have searched for hours and read countless tutorials. I can boot my phone into recovery and that's about it. I am from the UK and have an international HTC One unlocked bootloader. Can anyone at least point me in the right direction to a tutorial that is for me, every one I have read is regarding sprint/verizon/att and I'm just really stuck.
EDIT//
So now I have downloaded a restorable ROM and it has said to have worked, but now I cannot boot the ROM. It constantly boots into Bootloader mode.
EDIT 2//
So after 11 and a half hours I have FINALLY got this sorted! What happened was I had done a factory reset in the phones settings as I was selling it. I must have reseted all the OS as it wouldn't even switch on. What i done to fix this was restored a selection of a backup that was sent by a good friend that commented in this thread! While trying to restore that I kept getting the error "E: Cannot mount '/data'" .. To fix this I went into TWRP > Wipe > Advanced > Fix and Format and formatted the data partition to EXT1 then back to EXT4.. I then restored the back up again and then ran a CyanogenMod t zip and voila!

You can do an RUU. That will revert your phone to 100% stock out of the box (except bootloader unlock and S-OFF) I can't really link you at the moment as I'm using the XDA app but google it and find the thread for the international RUU and tutorial and that should get you back on track.

Do not re-lock your bootloader or attempt to go S-ON, there is a very high probability that S-ON could brick your phone. There is also no need or reason to do this in any case soo best to refrain from doing so.
Not so sure as to the risks of bootloader locking but ***DO NOT DO S-ON***

You can do an RUU with an unlocked bootloader/S-OFF. Could you please tell me how you re-locked it? Did you just set the **UNLOCKED** flag to **LOCKED** or did you do something else?

I will literally be willing to do anything for you to help me get this sorted! Please, please, please! When I go to into recovery and try to flash a ROM from the sd card it either flashes fine, then reboots straight into bootloader mode and everytime I reboot it or press the power button it continues to do this, or else it will give me the errror that it cannot mount data or cache.

I had Android Revolution installed, I sold the phone on eBay, went to my settings and clicked on Factory Reset to delete all my data. It rebooted to my HTC screen and it's been like that from 11am this morning. I've been in and out of my recovery trying to wipe things and factory reset things and no luck.
After Update bootloop ... please help!
Hello everyone!
So im trying to fix this HTC One M8 since yesterday. My gf tried to install the latest update, after she did the phone went into bootloop.
It was rooted, TWRP recovery installed.
Now i tried yesterday to get i back to stock, but strangely nothing seems to work. I downloaded a couple of ruu ZIP files, none of them worked. Only thing worked was the cyanogenmod but well... she wants her phone back to stock
Every Stock-image i could find was for 4.16.401.10, but the phone says its 4.16.401.13.
Please help me! What exactly must i do in order to get i back to stock?

In addition to stock 4.16.401.13 ROM, you will also need stock recovery. Since TWRP is on the phone, OTA will cause the phone to boot over and over looking for stock recovery (and not finding it).

Unless the RUU zip is 4.16.401.13, its going to fail CID or version checks.

You can get .13 stock nandroid and recovery here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Note this is a nandroid, and not a flashable ROM zip. So restore according to the instruction given in the same thread.

Did you try with the phone in fastboot mode?
Any response if you type the command: fastboot devices
Response should be the phone's serial number if you have fastboot connectivity.
What Windows version?
Also, as previously stated, unless the RUU is 4.16.401.13, it will fail anyway.
I got it! Thanks a lot! Seems really like I was too stupid to find the thread u posted

What version is your phone? Do you have a full RUU to flash? Why did you use a toolkit instead of manual install? What recovery for what version of the phone did you try to install? Can you open a command window and use the command "fastboot getvar all" to give us some details on your phone model? be sure to delete the IMEI/serial before pasting the output here.

Agree with the previous response that we need more info.
Namely, getvar data, so we can see the version (CID, MID) of the phone, current firmware, etc. As well as what RUU file (exact name, source).
Also, any error messages or what wre the exact results of trying to run the RUU?
I also agree that flashing an RUU zip (or just about anything) thru a toolkit is a bad idea. Flashing manually is not any more complicated (at least, not by any significant degree) and a toolkit just constitutes an unnecessary middle man, that I've often seen cause problems in itself. Biggest reason for this, is that the toolkit hasn't been update in over a year (going on 2 years!) and its outdated components cause many issues on even remotely current software/firmware.

How can it be same problem as OP ? Your problem is installed wrong ROM for your device variant.
You asked where to find your correct firmware and I linked to you to correct section for your device variant
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/htc-one-m8-unable-to-correct-firmware-t3446792
But .. now you installed a GSM RUU on CDMA device... the biggest mistake.
Change back MID to original then install Sprint RUU. If you're lucky enough, Sprint RUU will unbricked your M8.

Your phone is the CDMA version M8, that is a fact. Choosing other carriers has nothing to do with it. Being the CDMA version M8 means it supports CDMA, in addition to some GSM and HSPA bands. Its intended for use in the US with the Sprint network, and will give you limited results elsewhere. Really, its the worst M8 version to buy; and I wouldn't recommend it to any international (non-US Sprint) users.
Hello xda community, I have very little experience in programming or rooting phones, and I really need help rooting my phone which I think is the International version of the M8 (or normal I really have no clue)
I've browsed through the internet looking for tutorials and such and I stumbled upon xda, but the noob-proof software I found here didn't do the job for me. So here is what I have:
Using the All-In-One-Toolkit, I successfully managed to unlock the bootloader within a few minutes, I then proceeded to flash a recovery to the phone while in bootloader (tried both the TWRP 2.7.0.2, and the latest version of it) but then I go from bootloader: Hboot > Recovery, my phone restarts, showing me the green HTC text, and the black android font on the bottom. Now, I waited for 20 min or so, but I noticed my phone was doing nothing and just heating up. ( I also tried using the perm root command but the result was also a bootloop)
I ended up holding down the Power button for several seconds, and the m8 started up like normal again. I did my research and I believe it to be a bootloop (correct me if I'm wrong ! )
I then looked for more information on the forum, in the FAQ section it said to simply erase the cache, which I did, but the phone wouldn't enter recovery still. I got really mad
So please help me find a solution or tell me what more info you need ! I would hate to have done a reset for nothing ^^
Thanks!
Post fastboot getvar all result (delete imei & serial no.)
What you described, seems like you probably not have a M8 (as happened to few others)

Yeah.. correct. Your device is M8s not M8; they are two different device.
Here is the thread for your device - https://forum.xda-developers.com/ht...ral/make-custom-recovery-htc-one-m8s-t3114245
Ask there, someone will be able to point you to correct TWRP version to use.
Anything for M8 won't work on M8s.

Correct bootloader state to install RUU would be locked or relocked (unless you have s-off, in which case any bootloader condition will work).
Since the RUU is stuck updating, I believe this usually means that security checks (bootloader locked, MID and CID check, etc.) are already passed. The RUU simply got stuck. If you haven't already done so, it should typically be okay to disconnect the phone, kill the process, etc. and start over again. A lot of times, simply trying the RUU again, will do that trick.
Otherwise, you may need to try another USB port on your PC, another cable, or even another PC. RUU can be quite finicky with the PC setup. It also must be a real PC (not emulated Mac, etc.).
If you also know how, please do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number before posting) so we can see the details on your phone. In some circumstances, how you determined the MID and CID may not actually be getting reported correctly (you didn't mention how you determined these, getvar all is the best and most accurate way).
Hello guys,
I have an HTC one m8 , I have been running a rooted device with custom rom which has been working terribly on my device...Now I want to return to stock rom, I have relocked bootloader and it's on s-on...I have tried out diverse RUU but all seems not working...I'm always getting this error in the process "rom update utility cannot update your andriod phone"" which i guess the ruu's have been using are not compatible with my phone...I would so much appreciate if anyone can get me the RUU executable file for my device that will be compatible with it........ Here is the fastboot getvar all details....Your prompt responses will be appreciated

Please don't post the same question to multiple threads. It won't get you help any faster, but will only confuse you and those trying to help you. I posted help in one of the other threads you posted in. Go figure out which one. Now you get it?
