Keeping custom ringtones / notifications after OTA? - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hello,
I´m pretty new to LineageOS and wonder if it´s possible to keep the custom sounds I have in my notifications and ringtones folders after I apply an OTA? It seems to me that the system/media/audio folder gets overwritten with each OTA so I need to copy the sound files again each time?

You could just download the Stock rom unzip it and go to system/media/audio and get them.

Thats true. But now here is the question, I have tried replacing the audio folder with the one that comes with CM6.1.2 and I have like doubles of each ringtone but they all make the same 1 sound.
Any fix for this?
Is it possible you have them on your storage card too? I'm not real sure how CM structures his audio stuff so I can't really answer that. You could unzip his rom replace the files zip it back up and flash it and see if it does the same thing.
So this may be a nub question but if lets say i create a zip with the folder "system/media/audio/xx" and flash it, it will flash? dont I have to sign it?
For example, I replaced the /system/media/audio/x content with the default ones from the stock rom, but when I go to Settings > Sound > Phone ringtone, i got like tons of other ringtones in the list and they all play the same sound when previewing.
If that helps break it down on what I'm trying to fix lol. I have a nandroid but I have made so many adjustments today, I would loose a lot to roll back.
All you need to do is download a stock rom, take out the Audio folder of that rom and then place that Audio rom onto the root of your SD card. Once the Audio folder is placed on the SD card go into sound settings, ring tones etc.. and you will see that all the files from that Audio folder are there and there will be doubles of some sounds. Once you confirm that the stock sounds are there, go back and delete the Audio folder you put on the root of the SD card and then all the double files will go away and you still have the stock ring tones along with CM tones.

Thanks for you response. Yeah thats what I was doing earlier. But the list kept showing doubles after reboot. Then I gave up for a good 15...20 minutes and everything was back to normal, Had all the regular ringtones back on there, Guess it was hung or something, no idea lol.
Thanks though;-)
When I unzip the ROM it only contains image files. Am I using the wrong ROM?

General question about ring tones and sounds for notifications

I looked around a bit, couldnt really find what I was looking for.
First, where are the default ring tones and notification/alarm sounds stored? I assume there is a system folder somewhere.
Second, I would also assume you could add your own sounds (adb?) to the folder for your own custom ring tones and notification/alarm sounds?
Lastly, what is the easiest way to extract sounds from one rom to be used in another rom? For instance, I really like the stock sounds from Warm Z but didnt like the lock screen and need 4G. So I went back to Warm 5 but would like to use the sounds from Warm Z?
Zedge from the market.

using root explorer you will find them in system/media/audio
mount as r/w and you can remove them, add your own. after a reboot the changes are shown
/system/media/audio
If you want sounds from another rom, just unzip the rom file and pull the files you want from the directory above.
Thanks all
anyone wanna help me with some commands to copy the files into the system folders? I dont know the commands for this OS, all I know are basic DOS commands. I extracted what I wanted from Warm Z rom and just want to put them in the audio folders. I have them stored on my SD Card. Can I use Terminal Emulator for this? Or has to be done from the PC?

[FIXED] Problem adding sound files to my Ringtones and Notifications

So I added about a hundred various ringtones and sounds to these folders:
/system/media/audio/ringtones
/system/media/audio/notifications
But when I go to my menu/sounds to select a new ringtone or notification sound, all the files I added are sitting there in duplicates or triplicates.
Or they show up with weird Chinese characters.
But when I use Root Explorer, they all show up as single files with correct filenames.
Is it possible each file may have an name that shows up one way here, then shows up another way somewhere else?
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Not sure if this helps, but you don't have to add them to root. You can just put them on your internal/external sdcard in folders with the same names.

YES! That was totally it.
I had no idea the system was smart enough to pull the sounds from other folders on my phone. I had the same sounds in a few folders since I had extracted them from a zip.
I deleted all the other folders and now only the ones in the /root/media are showing up!
Thanks!

someone with stock + root

Can someone zip and post the entire /system/media/audio folder? Since upgrading, I'm missing all the alarms that wake me up! Actually, I don't care about the notifications or ringtones, I use my own. Really the only one I want is Pendulum, but the entire directory would be nice in case anyone else is interested.
I could download a stock ROM and grab them from that most likely, but thought I'd ask anyway
here they are, ringtones to follow
and the ringtones

Stock Notifications Storage ?

Where are the stock system sounds kept, and, is it possible to copy non stock notification sounds to the location ?
Trying to set a non stock sound as google calender notification but it will only use system sounds, even though I've put other sounds in the "notification folder" on internal storage.
Cheers
Edit, should've said it's for a marshmallow sense 7.
Found where they're stored. Copied my MP3 file to folder but google calender still won't use it as notification sound.
