i flashed the CM6 final build last night but i miss the original evo ringtones that i had become so fond of. does anyone have a zip file of the ringtones that come preloaded with the phone?

You could just download the Stock rom unzip it and go to system/media/audio and get them.

Thats true. But now here is the question, I have tried replacing the audio folder with the one that comes with CM6.1.2 and I have like doubles of each ringtone but they all make the same 1 sound.
Any fix for this?
Is it possible you have them on your storage card too? I'm not real sure how CM structures his audio stuff so I can't really answer that. You could unzip his rom replace the files zip it back up and flash it and see if it does the same thing.
So this may be a nub question but if lets say i create a zip with the folder "system/media/audio/xx" and flash it, it will flash? dont I have to sign it?
For example, I replaced the /system/media/audio/x content with the default ones from the stock rom, but when I go to Settings > Sound > Phone ringtone, i got like tons of other ringtones in the list and they all play the same sound when previewing.
If that helps break it down on what I'm trying to fix lol. I have a nandroid but I have made so many adjustments today, I would loose a lot to roll back.
All you need to do is download a stock rom, take out the Audio folder of that rom and then place that Audio rom onto the root of your SD card. Once the Audio folder is placed on the SD card go into sound settings, ring tones etc.. and you will see that all the files from that Audio folder are there and there will be doubles of some sounds. Once you confirm that the stock sounds are there, go back and delete the Audio folder you put on the root of the SD card and then all the double files will go away and you still have the stock ring tones along with CM tones.

Thanks for you response. Yeah thats what I was doing earlier. But the list kept showing doubles after reboot. Then I gave up for a good 15...20 minutes and everything was back to normal, Had all the regular ringtones back on there, Guess it was hung or something, no idea lol.

When I unzip the ROM it only contains image files. Am I using the wrong ROM?

Is it possible to use the .zip of the supplemental audio Cyanogen uses in CM on the G2?
I miss all the notification sounds I used in CM, so I was wondering if it's possible to unpack that .zip to the proper areas for use. I can't remember if anything went to /system, so I figured I'd ask.
Edit: Kinda pointless question now that we have S-OFF/Permaroot/whatever. New topic: Find that .zip!
If its just audio files try placing on the SD card and selecting from there. I've had issues before but downloaded rings extended and it worked. Found this link...hope it helps.

Just open up one of his ROM's and pull them out
I have always put the audio files for each respective folder in my Music folder and they always show in the context menu.
Music\ringtones
\alarms
\notifications
So a folder for each event...you should be able to pull the files from one of the many builds on his site.
If I recall correctly, make this folder structure:
/sdcard/media/audio
Then in that audio folder make 3 folders:
alarms
ringtones
notifications
I know that worked in the past for me, but haven't tried it on the G2 yet.

I can confirm that works. had been running my own sounds since day one of the G2.
I have this MP3 ringtone that I want to use as my SMS/text notification sound,
but I don't get the option to look for it in my SD card.
The only option I get is to go to HTC hub and download their ringtones.

Make a folder on your sd card called "alarms" and copy/move whatever sounds you want in there. They should now show up, worked for me.

Found it! I made a folder called "notifications" Thanks for the idea Goth.
Try this.
you have to move the music into the ‘notifications’ folder or create a folder witht the MP3's on the root of the SD card, after you have done that, you can now start to set your own custom text message alert on your HTC EVO

dl the app in market called "rings extended" will let u use any sound mp3 file as a notification.

Hi every, I've downloaded several ringtones using Zedge application as yours should notice in the img1.png attached. I'm trying to change the default tone using one of this and can't see them. Where I should place them in the internal storage (see img2.png)?

Wrong section. Your post is supposed to be in "Q & A" section.
You just need to create a folder "Ringtones" in the internal SD card. Then copy your ringtones to this folder.

You could also put in the system folder if you have root access. I currently have the Skyrocket so this solution might not work for you. I put my .ogg file in /system/media/audio/ and then into the proper sub directory either /alarms /notifications or /ringtones. Then rebooted my system and I could assign them properly. Actually the first suggestion worked for me as well, but I just like having all my files in the same place. So it might work or it might not... i can't say for sure. I subscribe to the nexus development because g/f's mom who has the nexus and likes slim rom a lot.

Nice I'll try your solution later because I need to install some kind of Root Explorer and I've in my PC at home as for the first solution could not work due to .mp3 extension? I'm on GNex ROM 1.9.0 with 4.1.1

Yeah I think that the .ogg will work for sure. I just used root explorer the app to find out what my other ringtones were and then converted the ringtone to that file.
You have to put your ringtones in a folder called "Ringtones". Not just in the internal SD card.

I have a few mp3's and ringtones I got from zedge as well and I couldn't see them at first - you just need to let the mediascanner find them. A reboot will force the phone's mediascanner to do so, or it'll find them on its own in a little bit.

Ringtone/mp3 files will not be available as ringtones unless they are in the ringtones folder. Rebooting the phone won't change that, at least not with the stock ROM.

One reason to NOT put custom ring tones in the /system/media/audio/ringtones folder is that if you wipe your system (to change ROM's, for example), is that the system wipe would then also wipe your custom ringtones. However, if you place them in the Ringtones folder on your sdcard, that doesn't get wiped, and you'll be able to use the ringtones right away after flashing a new ROM, and you won't have to re-copy them onto your phone.

The post before mine had already ascertained which folder to put them in, I was just adding that to force a mediascan of that folder a reboot would do the trick. Sorry for any confusion
install es file explorer on to your phone.
When you want to select a new ringtone, the phone will ask you to either select a "system tone" or "select a file" (using the file explorer)
then you just navigate to the sound file no matter what folder you stored it in (on your sd)
So with a lot people running custom AOSP/AOKP/CMx ROMS I noticed the last couple days that some may want the stock sounds back. So I have extracted the sounds from a stock ROM and zipped them up.
Instructions 1- download the zip you want
2- unzip with winrar or 7zip, direct download straight to phone most file explorers should unzip
3- move files to phone sd card
4- use a file explorer app to move wanted sound to /system/media/audio and then copy into appropriate folder there
5- reboot phone and the new sound should be available
I have just done the AT&T stock sounds but comparing them to Bell and Rogers they are the same so don't be worried about the file name, they are all titled AT&T just to keep things straight on my own computer.

Didn't know that was there guess I should have searched but I didn't because I didn't remember seeing it and I'm here several times a day, and this way people can pick and choose what they want and delete the rest.

Just FYI, in my experience the ringtones/notifications (and maybe alarms?) don't need to be anywhere in particular. I keep all mine on my external MicroSD card and the phone automatically picks them up and adds them to my choices for ringitnes/notifications. No flashable zip needed. Just copy & paste.
Lols yup the beauty of android, ten different ways to do almost everything. I was just presenting these in an organized way to help people who aren't sure or are not used to exploring files on their phone keep things straight and organized.

im on CM !0.1 and my wife is on the same rom and she wants her Stock sounds back so i am trying to find a .zip or somewhere that has the Default Stock sounds that i can get .
i tried Google but it only brings up ringtones not Stock

Its not necessary to find a zip for it, you can do it yourself very easily
Download one of the stock roms (I suggest freezas rom) and extract it
Copy the "/system/media/notifications" and "/system/media/ringtones" folders (from the extracted rom) to a temp folder on your wife's phone's sdcard
Unmount the sdcard
Now on the phone, navigate to the sdcard with some sort of file manager (that supports root privileges) and copy the "notifications" and "ringtones" folders to /system/media
If prompted for superuser perms, allow it and then select "merge folders" or something along those lines when prompted
Now reboot and those sounds should be available. Any questions, just ask :good:

developers forum if the person doesnt understand the obvious then DUH ur in the wrong place or more reading required,,, obviously if a file is not a SOUND file u wouldnt need it.... again find something better todo with ur time
