[Q] How can I make my MP3 ringtone into a notification sound? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have this MP3 ringtone that I want to use as my SMS/text notification sound,
but I don't get the option to look for it in my SD card.
The only option I get is to go to HTC hub and download their ringtones.
Running SAC's Kingdom rom version 9
Hardware version 0003
Pri version 1.77_003

Make a folder on your sd card called "alarms" and copy/move whatever sounds you want in there. They should now show up, worked for me.
Sent using my fresh Warm 2.2.

Won't work.

Did not work, but thanked you anyway.

Found it! I made a folder called "notifications" Thanks for the idea Goth.

Try this.
you have to move the music into the ‘notifications’ folder or create a folder witht the MP3's on the root of the SD card, after you have done that, you can now start to set your own custom text message alert on your HTC EVO

You can use the ringdroid app
Go Bucks!!

yeah sry, i read it wrong. thought u were talking about alarms and not notifications.
/facepalm.

dl the app in market called "rings extended" will let u use any sound mp3 file as a notification.

put it in the sd card under Media/Audio/Notifications.

lost my folder for ringtones... please help

Im not sure If Im just not that smart... but one day I needed to charge my dash, It synced up at work when I plugged in the mini usb, and the next thing I know, I lost my ringtone I picked out, and I dont see a folder anywhere named ringtone or anything like it. I have a custom kavana rom posted here, and its been great. Can I just make another folder for my ringtones somewhere? Where is supposed to be?? What would it be named?? Please help! Thanks!
I always put my ringtones in the folder named "My Documents" on the phone memory.
I always put all my rings/phone sounds that I am currently using in the \Application Data\Sounds directory. Also, every ROM I ever used has this directory and when you want to set a sound/ring they are always in the drop down list in Settings->Sounds. Then delete the stuff im not using any more or move it to the storage card, to free up device storage.
What I do is put them on a folder on my storage card, use the audio manager to copy whichever I want to my ringtones folder on the device, so if something happens, like how vbittnv lost his folder, I'll still will have them on my storage card, and you don't want to fill the device's storage with unecessary stuff.

Yes but to keep down storage on device memory being used up, you can just keep your sms tones on root of storage and with the ringtones i use music to which is stored on storage card and just like roloracer use AudioManager "only thing used for"to copy them to \My Documents\My Ringtones then delete the old one in the folder.

Couldn't have said it better myself, I only keep a small amount of ringtones on my phone's memory, the rest on my card.

Yea, I only have one ringtone on my phones storage at a time. The rest of my junk is on my SDHC.
I just looked at my original post and I can see why you guys are saying what you are. I meant something different. I meant all my current sounds that are being used are on device storage. And like I said, the rest of the junk I have is on my SDHC.
If you create a folder on your storage card called My Ringtones there is no need to store them in device memory. It must be Root so it would be /Storage Card/My Ringtones
Works with every ROM I have ever used
mini sd card best place to keep all music ringtones videos, well true if you want to add a ringtone to a contect or song as one, it has to be on the main memory so thay say not true, just dont make a ringtone file and just let them run free on sd card this well alow them to be added to any of your contacts or sound apps for your phone, works for me, ringtones on a file on your sd card well run on main ringtone sounds and for myfaves contacts only out of file on sd card well work with all,

You could just download the Stock rom unzip it and go to system/media/audio and get them.

Thats true. But now here is the question, I have tried replacing the audio folder with the one that comes with CM6.1.2 and I have like doubles of each ringtone but they all make the same 1 sound.
Any fix for this?
Is it possible you have them on your storage card too? I'm not real sure how CM structures his audio stuff so I can't really answer that. You could unzip his rom replace the files zip it back up and flash it and see if it does the same thing.
So this may be a nub question but if lets say i create a zip with the folder "system/media/audio/xx" and flash it, it will flash? dont I have to sign it?
For example, I replaced the /system/media/audio/x content with the default ones from the stock rom, but when I go to Settings > Sound > Phone ringtone, i got like tons of other ringtones in the list and they all play the same sound when previewing.
If that helps break it down on what I'm trying to fix lol. I have a nandroid but I have made so many adjustments today, I would loose a lot to roll back.
All you need to do is download a stock rom, take out the Audio folder of that rom and then place that Audio rom onto the root of your SD card. Once the Audio folder is placed on the SD card go into sound settings, ring tones etc.. and you will see that all the files from that Audio folder are there and there will be doubles of some sounds. Once you confirm that the stock sounds are there, go back and delete the Audio folder you put on the root of the SD card and then all the double files will go away and you still have the stock ring tones along with CM tones.

Thanks for you response. Yeah thats what I was doing earlier. But the list kept showing doubles after reboot. Then I gave up for a good 15...20 minutes and everything was back to normal, Had all the regular ringtones back on there, Guess it was hung or something, no idea lol.
Thanks though;-)
When I unzip the ROM it only contains image files. Am I using the wrong ROM?

[Q] Ringtones and Notifcations on SD Card on 4.24 Roms

Prior to GB I was able to have my notifications in the notifications folder on my SD card, and ringtones in the ringtones folder. Since the GB update I haven't been able to select them when I pick a tone. Any Ideas?

I noticed this too when I put them on my SD card that they were missing, and after some investigating I noticed that a ".nomedia" file made it's way into the folder. Double check this, and delete it because that tells your OS that there's nothing in there media wise. Hope this helps!

YEP! Good man, I see that file all the time and I never thought of it like that. I did that, deleted all the stock sounds/rings, rebooted and now I just see my SD card tones. Thanks

Mess up the ringtones

I have CM7 RC1v2 and I dont know if I´m doing something wrong or what....
I use the normal system app to change the ringtones and when plug the phone to the pc...the sms ringtone just dont work...or when I unplug the phone the ringtone change...
I realy dont know if its a known bug or if I am an idiot and dont know how to use it.
I read something in the DEV post about the ringtones but...when I click the link (in the changelog) the page its down....
Maybe someone can help me...
this is cos your ringtones are saved on your CD card and not your phone, so when you're hooked up to the PC, and enabled the SD card to portable drive, your phone loses access to the CD card. download dual mount SD from the market, then your ringtones wont change while you're copying files to/from your PC
If some media in conflict persistently. Use root explorer goto data/data/com.android.media/databases, delete all file with name "external" and restart phone. New database will be auto created. Reconfigure your ringtone from fresh after the restart.

Create /notifications folder on root of SD card. Likewise /ringtones if you like. Any mp3 or ogg vorbis file will then appear in the sounds menu.

It worked a treat thanks. However, I have bought a new 4gb HC micro sd card and wanted to transfer all my ringtones and sms alert tones. I created both a Ringtone and a notification folder and added my stuff. But only the ringtons appear on my phone, not the notications. What have a I done wrong? is it because Im now using a 4gb HC card? Why do the ringtones appear on my phone but not the notification?? When I browse my phone and the sd card, I can see both folders Help
On my SD card there appeared at some stage a folder called "Notifications"; try the exact name.

Firstly, I created both a Ringtones and a Notification folders for both my ringtones and sms alert tones. At first, I could only see my ringtones on the actual device. I then did a reboot and restored my device to factory settings, I then took my sd card out and formatted that. I created my folders again and this time, I could now see and use both my ringtones and notifications in my phone. However when I try to add new ones, getting to me phone through Moto helper, the new additions do not show up in my device, even though when I browse my phone's sd card, I can see them through Motorola MTP interface. is there any way to fix this? Has anyone else had the same problem?? Help
