Hi All,
My Gnex 9250 has a poor battery life, My brother has the same phone and his battery last much longer(with 3g) than mine. Please help.
1130 AM - Battery 100%
1 and half hour Music(Player Pro) - Not much screen activity(with 2G enabled)
2G on for 6 hours, Pretty long texting.
about 45 Minutes of Browsing(2g)
10 Mins on Voice calls.
No Widgets.Background apps = Swiftkey,Go launcher(No theme),Profile scheduler.
By 12am battery was 20%
Screen brigntness is VERY low so its not that, Its about 20%.
Phone is about a month old.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT - 4.1.1(No available updates)
The fact your battery goes over 12hrs seems it's not too bad with moderate use. And who knows if your bro uses his as much as he says? If you want to compare then look at his battery stats in settings next to yours.
Try a different ROM? Kernel?

Thanks for your reply. My brother does use as he said, Ive seen his battery stats, uptime was 1 day 9 hours(14% then). He doesnt text half as much as I do, but his voice calls are much more than mine. Also hes on 3g thats a bigger battery hog than 2g. Not too keen on changing the Kernel/Rom.
Could it be SwiftKey and Go launcher? He doesnt use either of them.
Thanks again.

there are lots of thing that can affect your battery life one of it is the kernel ur using.
I already have this problem before.
i've tried lots of custom rom. the only custom rom that solve this battery issues is from Android Revolution HD 7.0.0
from this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361348
imo the best battery/performance kernel out there is franco's. try it, battery will be 2x to 3x longer.
if you like to fool around with what's chewing battery you can get better battery stats and it will tell you what keeps your phone from going to sleep. sometimes nothing, sometimes crappy app that messes things up
good luck!
Thanks to all for your replies.
Guess that 12 hours is not bad afterall right? Seems like that from the first reply I got.
Unfortunatly I have no time to re-flash a differnt ROM/Kernel. But thanks for all reccomendations.

You say that your brother doesn't text as much as you but he uses voice calls more. Remember that when you're texting the screen is on and that has a big impact on battery life.
There's not a kernel, ROM, or flying saucer out there that can triple battery life Just saying. People get fanatical about certain ROM/kernel combos. The usual suspects are leaving on things you don't need and on occasion an app. People claim that different things work better on different phones but I think it's a bunch of crap. Much of what you hear is placebo.

Off late my Gnex is draining a lot of battery while making calls. a 15-16 mins call is draining the battery by 4-5% atleast. Overall I'm getting screen time of around 3.5 - 4 hours on my stock, rooted Gnex when I am making only a few calls. I'm using the stock dialer.
Can anyone please help me out?

Geez mate, I gotta tell ya.. That seems like reasonable screen time and talk drain to me. How old is this device, and especially, how old is the battery?

It wasn't like that earlier. I have no issues with screen time, only a call is draining the battery much faster than it used to do. The battery and phone both are almost 1.5 years old.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
After 1.5 years, your battery is still providing about 6.6 hours of talk time out of approx 8hrs when brand new, assuming you're on 3G.
I would estimate this to be about what you can expect after that amount of time, give or take.
I wonder if a new battery would solve the issue?
What was your average drain previously?

So, title self explain. I have G3 and want to ask to someone who made the upgrade from G3 to G4. Is the battery about the same as G3 or is better?
i had G3 and recently i bought G4 not much difference but lets say the G4 win with alittle bit but from my opinion i didnt see abig difference
advice :Stay away from G4--- this device has too many hardware issues

i was planning to buy the G4, so i looked at some reviews. GSMArena said that the battery life on the G4 is a downgrade from the G3.
The Endurance rating worked out to 54 hours, 9 hours less than the G3. The issue was with the high standby power draw, which puts a strain on the battery even when you're not using the phone. The other disappointment was the talk time, which couldn't reach 17 hours - an 8 hour drop from the G3.
We reran the tests several times and kept getting the same results.
Anyway, the web browsing time was pretty good - nothing spectacular, but good. It also marks the only improvement since the G3 as the video playback is below average for the flagship class.

ok. where does it make a direct comparison to the G3. the video is kind of hard to follow. Unless he has both phones in the same video and do a same battery test, you can't really compare the g4 to g3 with this video. the OP just has to decide which source he deems more reliable.

yes because this is a difficult subject so keep a note when he talks of the sot's under different conditions.
Had to watch it a couple of times but i got it in the end. See the comments too.
What is your expectation of sot/runtime ? How much do you get with your curent device ? what is your current device.
There is no difference between G3 and G4 for battery life max i can get 4 and half hours for battery life and minimum only almost 3 hours SOT. Maybe if next LG device is like this battery life i need to change to another brand
Yeah my experience in two days....Touchscreen issues untill i updated to V10C which fixes the touchscreen issue but decreases battery life to the extent where u can literally notice it drop before your eyes. The power saving used to work fine before v10c now even tho i turn it on immediately it wont kick in untill battery reaches 15% ( u will know when its on because the statusbar will change its color to red)...... And yes the back buttons are loose and feel wobbly. There is a pink shade in my front camera when there is sunlight in the background....ummm what else......i am damn sure even the cheap chinese phones coming out will be better than this piece of junk. I shud never have bought it

How much sot & runtime did you get before the update ?

Dont expect anything crash hot from the battery performance. It is nothing like what i expected. If you want good battery life go with samsung s6 or even better the sony xperia phones. Xperia has best battery life. So G4 wont do you any good with battery life

3h sot, lots of complaining, 4h+Sot less complaining or it goes silent. Seen this a few times now. That is what surprised me. Until you realise that people find 8h run time too short but once it gets into 12-14h+ its ok. Its the standby time that is more important.

I currently have the nexus 4 and i think the most screen on-time i can get before my phone dies is 3 hours, but usually it's in the low to mid 2 hour range before i have to run to the charger. But the phone never last more than like 12 hour of usage (or a 8 hour workshift+ work traffic) as i constantly surf the web, music, and always checking my phone.
I want something like xperia z3 compact or note 4 battery life, but those phones have some things i don't really like. With the G4, i do plan on buying those high capacity battery (like mugen, hyperion, etc..) if the phone does fall below my expectation.

Mostly wifi ? or is there also same amount of data ? how strong or not that cell data signal is and for how long you are on it will take a toll with any phone.

How bright do you like your screen. if you can manage with less brightness ie 30-50% you can add an hour of sot.
for reference, 3-4h SOT on data and 4-5h sot on wifi only with 65-70 brightness. mixed use means somewhere in between, 4h sot. high brightness means low to mid 3h, less brightness 4-5h.
sot/run times you can expect 3h /9h, 4h/12h, 5h/14+h is normal with stock.
Are these figures you can live with ? xperias & note 4 will give you an extra hour sot on top. that extra hour means 2-4h longer run time.
you dont need to carry those bulky batteries unless your phone absolutely needs to be on, just swap the battery out in a couple of minutes.. Not hot swap, have to power down.
How important is bootloader unlock and roms for you ? some people are forced to stick with original and forego firmware updates to preserve bootloader unlock. this means if any improvements are made in subsequent updates they can't use them and are stuck with whatever bugs are there in the older firmware. Stuck with bugs and waiting for roms can be frustrating.
For some one used to nexus 4 being able to flash anything and everything, G4 might seem a bit boring for you, Nexus 5x ? you dont care for replaceable battery or sd card. just get the biggest onboard memory possible

Yep all wifi, don't have a data plan . wifi signal varies to maximum signal to no signal at all lol. But i do turn on airplane mode when i'm on the train for example. My brightness is set to adaptive brightnes on @ 50%ish
I'm actually avoiding the nexus line in the future lol since i really want sd card slot and removable battery (and good/excellent battery life), usb OTG (particularly usb audio out), and a device that can officially unlock bootloader like the g4 H815. and to be honest, stock android ui is sometimes boring and it never has features u see on like xperia, htc, or samsung devices. And I can just do all my flashing needs on my Nexus 4 when the habit kicks in lol. Overall, on my next phone, i just want options and upgrade/replacement possibility

Then you can expect a 4-5h sot/12-14h run time with normal use. Good enough ?
web browsing won't eat up much battery, its push notifications and constant syncs over weak signal that do it faster.
IMO the g3 was garbage...i had 2 that had emmc failures and all 3 i had overheating issues...battery sucked...only pro was there was a good bit of development...i love my g4...only device i miss over my g4 is my g2...battery life is great with minimal tweaks and greenify...my last run was 5 h 2m sot and 47.5 standby...h81110n
Been using this phone for over a month now and always has bad battery life as compared to what others are getting.. about 4 hours sot with over 20 hours on battery and it used to reach 10% battery level ?.. yeah it's bad... So I unlocked, rooted and installed greenify and amplify and amplify showed the cause... Take a look at this.. so the only way to fix this is to flash a custom stock based ROM right ?
I'm worried about that rijl wake lock.. radio issues ? I always keep my phone on 2g to get even batter battery life but sad situation for me here folks

I received a refurbished Pixel XL a few days ago and immediately updated to Oreo. The thing is, the battery life sucks. I probably got a dud because I just lost 4 percent of battery in 12 minutes of SOT while doing nothing heavy. I don't think that's normal. I tried factory reset and stuff like that but battery still drains very quickly. AccuBattery shows that my battery life is at 89%. Before I return it I'd like to hear what is battery life like for you guys on Oreo 8.1.0 Thanks

That doesn't sound right. As a company trying to build a customer base, you don't sell your next product by worsening your current product to try and get users to get the new one. For example, if car manufacturers did that with their cars by making it break down after 3-4 years, nobody would want to buy it again or even try it.
Another example but in the mobile world would be Samsung. Lots of people mention how they won't buy a Samsung product because they start lagging after a period of time. Could this be that they are doing it intentionally to make you upgrade to the next one? Imagine how many more sales they would get if their didn't "intentionally" lag their phones.

Apple's reasoning of decreasing performance was to increase device battery longevity, not to increase sales of their next product. In fact, a dead battery which renders a phone unuseable is more likely going to present the idea of purchasing a new device versus someone who barely notices a slowdown in opening an app. I think it's more important to give a customer the option of calling emergency services through a slowdown phone versus a dead phone.
Their idea is great but implementation and transparency could have been better.
As a company, you don't give yourself premium status if you sell inferior products that easily get outdated.
TLDR: Apple products age very well, yet they still are able to empty shelves with their latest products.
I got my Pixel XL from Google as a replacement for a Nexus 6P last September. It came with Oreo 8.0.0* and I was thrilled with the battery life, especially after the dismal battery life of the 6P. After I updated to 8.1.0 in December, my battery now is at 30% at the end of an average day, instead of 50% with 8.0.0. I'm thinking of flashing back to the last versions of 8.0.0 and taking my chances with not having the security updates.
Has anyone flashed back? Can anyone think of a reason (besides the small security risk) that I wouldn't want to do this?

LoL of course I did. Went back to 8.0 after 8.1 December release and its pathetic battery backup. Funny thing is, after flashing back 8.0 the backup didn't increase, it was same bad as it was on 8.1. And it stayed the same for first 5-6 charging cycles too, however then I started to get better for the next charging cycles, I started to get the usual 5-6 hours of SoT, but then the January 8.1 update released and I flashed it, now my battery backup is average. 4 hours of SoT with adaptive brightness enabled, 5 hours with it disabled.
If you stay indoors most of the time then absolutely disable the awfully poorly implemented adaptive brightness on 8.1. That will help you gain some minutes of SoT for sure.
Poor battery backup, swiping issues, 8.1 is one hell of a stupid release really.

LoL keep believing that. Like these greedy ****s nowadays care about customer base, all they care about is selling their newly released devices by crapping up the old gen ones, because the old gen ones don't get manufactured any more, and the company has already brought in most of the profits from it, so no point in maintaining those phones in a good shape.
When all the 3 releases of 8.0 were fantastic and suddenly 8.1 pops up which is supposed to be an upgrade but all it brings are bugs, a rational mind will always think it's deliberate, which is the case anyway.

I think that google tried to put too many features at once WITHOUT tweaking the features for battery. They are not like apple and if they are, they are a lot less strict with it. I applied some root tweaks and got about 6 hrs of SOT, I am having the same problem after the update, but history says that google's releases slowly patch underlying issues

Of course a company should make it a priority to make a profit as they are in the business to make money. They aren't running a charity after all. But in my opinion, it's wrong to believe that a company is trying to sell their next product by deliberately making their products bad/inferior. Why would someone purchase a product from a company that only lasts a year or two when you can go elsewhere for a reliable product?
In all my years with Android, (since the days of the G1) I've never experienced such great battery life. I'm using the pixel XL 128gb 8.1 Oreo. Some days I finish the day with almost 10 hours screen on time with heavy use. Best battery life I've EVER had on any platform

Did any of you jokers even read what he said? He said 12 minutes SOT equals 4% battery. That's 5 hours SOT, in his estimation.
It is very likely that 4% battery in his statement is really 3% battery because his battery ticked down to a lower percent just after he noted the reading.
Now, 3% battery in 12 minutes of SOT is very normal for an optimized Pixel XL usage and medium screen brightness. That literally means 6 hours and 40 minutes of SOT. That is what anyone can get without going to extremes with optimizing battery usage.
The best I have ever gotten with Pixel XL was 6 minutes per 1% of battery or 10 hours SOT and that is just playing youtube videos on wifi with lowest brightness and nothing running in background.

Let us believe what we choose to, you don't need to worry about our beliefs LoL. This belief didn't come from some children story book either, but based on what's been happening of late, a judgement based on real life results.
Why would someone keep buying a company's products? That's not a bright question really, cause even after LG's G3, G4, G5, N5X etc. phones which all had hardware problems people still bought their next releases, and that's just one example out of many. I myself even after knowing, complaining that Google once ****ed up the battery backup of Pixel 2016s deliberately will look into their Pixel 3 whenever it releases, simply because money doesn't matter to me that much, and I'm not even anywhere near that rich.
That battery life sounds fine tbh.
Battery life when connected to mobile data is worse. As soon as i turn on data Google play services starts draining the battery. This doesn't happen when connected to WiFi. It's really annoying. I tried removing my Google account and adding it again, clearing cache etc. Nothing works.

I have a Pixel XL on January 8.1. I also have Magisk installed. I lose 2 - 3 % overnight. I can easily get 8 hours of sot. I usually don't use that much. I keep away from battery draining apps. Phone last all day. Best phone I ever had as far as battery consumption goes.

8 hours SoT with 8.1, seems like a day dream for me.
My battery backup remains same, that is poor, still getting 4-5 hours SoT. A full hour less than what I used to get with 8.0. Device is around 8 months old.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Can you please tell us which custom ROM and kernel did you flash? Also, what the health of your battery on AccuBattery? Thank You.
