the cases with the stands arent available yet.
but the next best thing is the samsung flip cover. it replaces the back cover of the galaxy but adds a leather cover for the screen.

I got one of those it came free with my phone. It does look very good but i gotta say it offers no real protection. It doesnt cover the metal sides and the fact that it cant be 'locked' onto the screen means theres a good chance it will flip open if you drop ur phone and the screen can still be damaged. It makes taking photos extremely inconvenient too.
I now have 2 of those flip covers sitting on my desk gathering dust, the other one came free with my gf's white note.
This is sort of like an ipad cover/stand thingy

really expensive
That wouldn't even work. The magnets and sensors in the iPad are what lets the awesomeness happen. The Note doesn't have either

Well, neither would an iPad2-style smart cover, which is what the OP was asking about!
For me, the flip case is perfect because what I want a case for is simple to protect the screen when I put the phone in my pocket. Impact protection is doesn't figure into my personal requirements because I consider the additional bulk to be an unacceptable trade off for the protection that it would offer in the very rare event that I drop the device. YMMV of course!
The thing I like about the flip cover, other than the fact that it adds almost no bulk to the device, is that I find myself holding the Note one handed much like I would a paper back book, with my thumb on the inside of the cover, 3 fingers behind the device and cover, and my little finger resting on the edge of the bottom of the note.
I also find the cover a great stabiliser when taking photos in landscape as I flip the cover down and use it as part of my "grip". It works to a lesser degree in portrait too, though to start with it does feel a little more cumbersome.
Regards,
Dave
Absolutely, I love how the flip actually makes the Note a lot easier to hold safely. I'm actually happy to have it out while walking around, whereas I've been afraid I'd drop it on the pavement without the flip. I'd pay good money for an app that would switch it on and off when the proximity/light sensors see the case open or close, that would be great...
victorlht88 said:
not true. i am sure its possible for developers to use the light/proximity sensor to lock/unlock the phone or maybe using some app.

This really works but specially the locking option. if i close the flip cover it actually turn off.
wish it would be the same on how unlocking it with just opening the flip cover.
very nice findings

Yes but what if your hand drifts over the prox sensor? sounds annoying...

I just received the Moko case and it has a magnet that turns our device on and off. But I've heard talks of the magnets ruining the digitizers.
I don't understand how this can happen if the Samsung covers have magnets in addition to our tablets having a setting to interact with magnets. Perhaps it depends on what the magnet is rated at?
Could anyone share or educate me on any risk I have using the Moko case that has a magnet?

Uh... I just ordered a Moko case with that feature and now I'm beginning to worry... Hopefully someone will post saying, "No, it won't affect the digitizer at all because (insert reliable information)."
they say it can, but won't if properly shielded. I don't know who "they" are but they lurk around these here internets. I haven't had any problems yet on my note 8 with a poetic case.

I just got this case too. There's only supposed to be 1 magnet, right? Also, is there some way to position the stand to hold the tablet in more than 1 position? Thanks.

Place the tablet upside-down? Ahh! I see now. You just blew my mind! So there's not supposed to be a magnet on the upper left corner? I feel a indentation there, and it would probably help hold the cover closed, but nothings there. Thanks for the help. As simple as flipping the tablet over is, I might not have realized it for days.

I don't have a magnet there either
I was afraid of this problem as well and I also just received the Moko case. The first thing I did once I got the case was remove the magnets using an exacto knife. There are 5 in total. There are 4 rectangular magnets where the case flap and the case touch (2 on the edge of the case flap and 2 on the edge of the case itself). I presume they are there for keeping the case closed. Then in the center of the case flap there is a round magnet which I assume is used for the actual wake/sleep feature.
I understand removing the magnets was a little extreme but I only plan to use this case until there is an otterbox defender case made available for it.

I'll probably wind up doing this too. I'm waiting for the Zenus case.
Aren't you guys acting a bit paranoid when even cutting the magnets out of the case. I yet have to find the fist discussion thread or post in which someone confirms permanent damage. And I did quite some extensive googling on the subject. So just post the sites/threads or stop scaring each other.

Did you not read the 4th post of people showing the note 8.0 with dead spots where they can't write?
I had the note 8.0 though and from my memory since it didn't have options and settings to utilize a magnetic cover I think that is the reason why some note 8.0 are getting messed up.
I don't know what will happen but that's why I have a free 2 year warranty so I don't really care.

LOL, the fourth post is actually mine. I've been reading through that entire thread, but so far there's actually no-one having actual *permanent* damage to the digitizer as a result from using a magnetic cover.

Interesting read.
Wacom says no permanent damage is caused by magnets, but it could very well be that parts of your device can be magnetized and with that the problem would be (at least) somewhat permanent.

Oh, my mistake lol.
I'm actually not that worried, not enough to cut out the magnets in my moko. I have an extra year warranty with my CC provider and by the end of that warranty, I'm sure I'll be getting the 2016 edition.

If I read that post in the referenced thread right - those "dead spots" were not a demonstration of permanent damage. The poster mentions placing the screen next to the magnets in the folio to achieve that effect.

Could you post pictures of where those magnets are located? I'm going to cut mine out as well. Zenus will start shipping at the end of November so I'd rather play it safe and just get rid of the magnets.
Update. I got out the magnets. The circular magnet was partially covered by the card flap for anyone else interested.
I just recently bought the poetic slimline case and as much as I love it, the magnetic field created by the magnets in the case is 500ut which the Android Sensor Box app is showing anything over 150ut is bad . Will this cause long term effects on the hardware with that strong of a field? I have no idea about any of this other than strong magnets are bad on any electronics. I just want to know if anyone who has used this case for a while if they have noticed any problems with their device? Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Edit: I did a little digging and i found some good stuff. First off a field of 500uT or 0.0005T is about the strength of an ordinary fridge magnet. Tech these days need to be within about 1.25T or 1350000uT (the strength of a magnet inside of an HDD) for any damage to occur. So I guess we can rest assured that the only things these magnets will do is confuse the sensor. Im sure no magnets in any case are that strong so I wouldn't worry about it anymore. Thanks everyone for the help!
I guess no one has had any issues then? Thanks for everything
I got the moko ultra slim and it's beautiful

I have been wondering this aswell.
If the magnetic fields created by the magnets would cause screen issues.
I have an Asus VersaSleeve for my Nexus and it has magnets...
I am noticing screen sensitivity issues when my tablet is laying flat and resting on the folded up cover... Hmm... Guess I'll take it off and if they go away it's the magnets.
If I hold the tablet in my hand there are no issues even with the cover on
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
The magnet shouldn't cause any problems.
Jfriend, the problem you ate experiencing is a problem with the touchscreen itself. There's a thread on it somewhere around here.
I'm using one of those Poetic cases with no issues.
The Google Play Store is also selling their Folio cases for the Nexus 7
with the Wake / Sleep feature.
They probably wouldn't be selling it if they thought the magnets would be a problem.

I would agree with you but with the 2013 nexus they moved it to the lower left side of the device. Its on the opposite side of the battery. The magnet inside the device doesn't even get picked up by the sensor so its placed in a spot where it wont do any harm. The issue I'm talking about are the 2 magnets that hold the case shut. I dont see any on the official folio. They are strong magnets and they work well for their purpose. Im just curious what kind of effects this has on the device long term. I guess ill find out eventually if its harmful lol.
I've also been using a pouch with a strong magnetic closure on my cellphones for the past few years. Never had any problems.

I've been experiencing exactly the same thing. I also have a case with magnetic parts on it, it's a blue-tooth keyboard case and there are 4 small magnets that hold the keyboard in place and 1 on the back that hold the stand in place.
When I have the tablet flat or on the stand I quite often have problems with touchscreen response, however if i pick the tablet up and hold it vertically it's fine. I am as yet undecided if it is the case or the tablet itself. I have heard of screen issues with the N7. but primarily the issues seem to be multitouch and ghost touch related.
I did have a case for my Galaxy Note that has a strong magnetic clasp and that did effect the screen, once I dumped the case for a non magnetic one it was fine.
It stands to reason that magnetic fields will effect electronic devices given their operation and the fact that any electrical current creates a magnetic field and two opposing fields... well we've all done the reverse poles trick with magnets haven't we.
Just got a Nexus 7 and a Poetic Slimline case for Christmas.
I don't know about long term issues, but I do know it does affect the functionality of some apps. SkEye is nearly unusable with the case on.
When I ordered the tablet i also got an Ivso cover.
I have an issue when I flip the cover fully open: when the magnetic part touches the top back side of tablet the screen will switch off. It looks like the tablet thinks that the cover has been closed.
This thing is quite annoying and I couldn't find any way to disable this.
Is there any way that I could change how the tablet reacts when the cover is closed? Disabling the behavior(lock it when the book cover closes) could work for me but i couldn't find a way to do it.
Any thoughts?

Hello everybody.
I own an original Galaxy Tab S, which I use at work (I'm a teacher). And I also own a Tab S2, which I use at home.
The thing is that, while the Tab S is perfectly capable of doing everything I need, it's, with it case, much heavier than the S2, and when I use it while standing for a while I get tired.
I really LOVE the case I bought a year ago for the S2. It was called "Origami Smart Case Cover for Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 T810". It's incredibly light, but I don't know what brand it is, it has the letters FC on it.
I got another origami case for the Tab S from Roocase, but it's much heavier.
The thing is, I just bought a Tab S3 and would like to know if anybody knows of a really light case for it.
Thanks in advance.
Give this a try : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUhkBIBYEIc and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWHM7N...=1492283382&sr=1-10&keywords=tab+s3+case&th=1
From what i read the lightest on is their own ~50$ cover , but it offers less protection. If you need some more protection then take a look at that amazon link.
I got this one

Thanks everyone. When you get your cases it would be really helpful if you could write about your impressions. I'm mainly interested on the weight: I don't care for having a really light and thin tablet and then putting it in a case that doubles it weight and width.
By the way, I realized that I could look for "fc cases" in Google and found the webpage that manufactures (or sells) the case I had for the Tab S2. Forefront Cases. However, they don't have anything for the S3.
I sent them an e-mail and got an error: their inbox is full. I tried calling them this morning and the call went straight to voice mail. I've sent them a twit, but their account has been inactive for five or six months. I'm starting to worry that they may have gone out of business.
If anybody knows a way to contact them and try to find out if they are making another origami case for the Tab S3, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks for the link, I was thinking of getting that before I got the one I listed before your post. My one gripe is how the SPEN clip would rub against the screen of the tablet, even though I have a tempered glass on mine, I'm afraid it will scratch. Guess, an option would to put some type of tape to prevent scratches.

Sadly the pen pouch interferes with the cover when folded into a triangle to prop up the tablet at an angle. The cover does not fold neatly into a triangle.

Thanks a lot for your answer. I couldn't try it, since I sold the S2 with the case before the S3 arrived. But I think there'd be two main problems: muffled speakers and the fact that the S2 is 10% thinner than the S3.

Of course you're right. I'm guessing the speaker issue will be a real one for almost any case, even though some might be loose / roomy enough to make a snug fit.
Did you ever find your light case? I'm looking for one now. I'm thinking of using this (with a screen protector):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWTKMR3
Or this, which I'd buy but for the fact that many people say the smart function doesn't work:
https://www.amazon.com/Lightweight-Semi-transparent-Samsung-9-7-Inch-SM-T820/dp/B00UP37UKK/
Hmmm... But since I have fingerprint login maybe the smart cover issue won't be a problem for me? I don't want to leave the tablet unlocked.
Also: I was trying to find a case with a built in pen loop / holder but options are limited so my plan is to buy one where I can attach a couple of these on the same side to hold it in place (like on my Surface Pro 3):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N8X33Y9/
I might even carry it in a pouch like this, and get some simple silicon / gel skin for minimal protection (and risk the damage if dropped):

Or this, which I'd buy but for the fact that many people say the smart function doesn't work:

I ended up getting this one.

Cheap and light enough. Nobody will mistake it for a high quality cover, but auto wake on works.
I really, really miss the origami cover, 'though. It was much more stable and you could have 3 different angles instead of just two.

Yeah I had added the S2 origami to my cart a couple of days ago but given the possible problems you raised I'm not going to buy it. But I'm glad to have thought this through a little more because I'm now thinking I won't use the smart function much and so that shouldn't be a dealbreaker.
I have had this case for my Tab since day 1 and love it. You can put the S-pen in the elastic loop if you really want to, but doesn't provide a whole lot of protection for it. The case does have the smart features for the screen wake built in and I have used these cases on my other tablets with no issues. Nice and lightweight and you have multiple angles you can set it at or just lay it flat.

Thanks. That looks like a good option (7.4 oz weight is okay).
I got a keyboard case bundled, but don't plan to use the keyboard that much. So I wanted a secondary, lightest possible option to use just for reading / markup. I went with this plus a glass screen protector (it's 3 oz):

Extremely light, and I think it'll do for my purposes.

Of course you're right. I'm guessing the speaker issue will be a real one for almost any case, even though some might be loose / roomy enough to make a snug fit.

I ordered the one in the first link the i-blason case. I'll get it tomorrow and I'll post some photos and give my thoughts since there are no reviews on this case at all. Ordered a TPG screen protector to go with it.
Beware the case magnets (smart covers) for the Tab S3, the magnet can ruin the S3 digitizer and sleep function. I had one S3 replaced due to this issue. I have never seen this problem on other devices.

How do you like the case?
