Looking for a light case - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Accessories

Hello everybody.
I own an original Galaxy Tab S, which I use at work (I'm a teacher). And I also own a Tab S2, which I use at home.
The thing is that, while the Tab S is perfectly capable of doing everything I need, it's, with it case, much heavier than the S2, and when I use it while standing for a while I get tired.
I really LOVE the case I bought a year ago for the S2. It was called "Origami Smart Case Cover for Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 T810". It's incredibly light, but I don't know what brand it is, it has the letters FC on it.
I got another origami case for the Tab S from Roocase, but it's much heavier.
The thing is, I just bought a Tab S3 and would like to know if anybody knows of a really light case for it.
Thanks in advance.

Give this a try : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUhkBIBYEIc and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWHM7N...=1492283382&sr=1-10&keywords=tab+s3+case&th=1
From what i read the lightest on is their own ~50$ cover , but it offers less protection. If you need some more protection then take a look at that amazon link.

I got this one
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MV1CX4I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm looking for something similar that can hold my SPEN.

I've ordered this from Amazon UK and seems to hold the S Pen

Thanks everyone. When you get your cases it would be really helpful if you could write about your impressions. I'm mainly interested on the weight: I don't care for having a really light and thin tablet and then putting it in a case that doubles it weight and width.
By the way, I realized that I could look for "fc cases" in Google and found the webpage that manufactures (or sells) the case I had for the Tab S2. Forefront Cases. However, they don't have anything for the S3.
I sent them an e-mail and got an error: their inbox is full. I tried calling them this morning and the call went straight to voice mail. I've sent them a twit, but their account has been inactive for five or six months. I'm starting to worry that they may have gone out of business.
If anybody knows a way to contact them and try to find out if they are making another origami case for the Tab S3, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks for the link, I was thinking of getting that before I got the one I listed before your post. My one gripe is how the SPEN clip would rub against the screen of the tablet, even though I have a tempered glass on mine, I'm afraid it will scratch. Guess, an option would to put some type of tape to prevent scratches.

Sadly the pen pouch interferes with the cover when folded into a triangle to prop up the tablet at an angle. The cover does not fold neatly into a triangle.

I know this is an old thread but had to ask: Aren't the dimensions of the S2 and the S3 basically identical? Can't you just use the S2 case on your S3?

Thanks a lot for your answer. I couldn't try it, since I sold the S2 with the case before the S3 arrived. But I think there'd be two main problems: muffled speakers and the fact that the S2 is 10% thinner than the S3.

Of course you're right. I'm guessing the speaker issue will be a real one for almost any case, even though some might be loose / roomy enough to make a snug fit.
Did you ever find your light case? I'm looking for one now. I'm thinking of using this (with a screen protector):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWTKMR3
Or this, which I'd buy but for the fact that many people say the smart function doesn't work:
https://www.amazon.com/Lightweight-Semi-transparent-Samsung-9-7-Inch-SM-T820/dp/B00UP37UKK/
Hmmm... But since I have fingerprint login maybe the smart cover issue won't be a problem for me? I don't want to leave the tablet unlocked.
Also: I was trying to find a case with a built in pen loop / holder but options are limited so my plan is to buy one where I can attach a couple of these on the same side to hold it in place (like on my Surface Pro 3):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N8X33Y9/
I might even carry it in a pouch like this, and get some simple silicon / gel skin for minimal protection (and risk the damage if dropped):
https://www.amazon.com/Lacdo-Repellent-Protective-Samsung-Tablets/dp/B01N2TFL04/

I ended up getting this one.

Cheap and light enough. Nobody will mistake it for a high quality cover, but auto wake on works.
I really, really miss the origami cover, 'though. It was much more stable and you could have 3 different angles instead of just two.

Yeah I had added the S2 origami to my cart a couple of days ago but given the possible problems you raised I'm not going to buy it. But I'm glad to have thought this through a little more because I'm now thinking I won't use the smart function much and so that shouldn't be a dealbreaker.

I have had this case for my Tab since day 1 and love it. You can put the S-pen in the elastic loop if you really want to, but doesn't provide a whole lot of protection for it. The case does have the smart features for the screen wake built in and I have used these cases on my other tablets with no issues. Nice and lightweight and you have multiple angles you can set it at or just lay it flat.

Thanks. That looks like a good option (7.4 oz weight is okay).
I got a keyboard case bundled, but don't plan to use the keyboard that much. So I wanted a secondary, lightest possible option to use just for reading / markup. I went with this plus a glass screen protector (it's 3 oz):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XW33QJR/
Extremely light, and I think it'll do for my purposes.

I ordered the one in the first link the i-blason case. I'll get it tomorrow and I'll post some photos and give my thoughts since there are no reviews on this case at all. Ordered a TPG screen protector to go with it.

Beware the case magnets (smart covers) for the Tab S3, the magnet can ruin the S3 digitizer and sleep function. I had one S3 replaced due to this issue. I have never seen this problem on other devices.

[Q] Thinnest Case?

I was searching around for a case, using this thread (which is amazingly helpful, by the way) and I am still undecided.
I was looking for something that would add minimal bulk to the device, considering that its thinness and lightness were key reasons I purchased a Galaxy Tab.
I was very interested in the Anymode cases - particularly the Slim case - after someone mentioned them on this forum. This case appears to be exactly what I'm looking for, but it has to be imported from Korea.
I am interested in folio cases mainly because they significantly reduce the need for a screen protector. Among these, the rooCase Ultra Slim and the Acase Slim Folio seem quite thin. Does anyone with experience know for sure which one is thinner?
Also, has anyone found some other super-slim cases for their Tabs?
I picked up my Galaxy Tab 10.1 with LTE from Verizon the other day and they had this case available for purchase:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...ryDetails&archetypeId=12674&accessoryId=47620
I was very happy with it. I think it is just a Samsung brand case. It is very light and has a nice feel to it.

I have already looked at this case, however I feel that it is a little overpriced - not to mention the design flaws that have been mentioned by some posters. Thanks for the input though.

Design flaws or no, that case is awesome. I have had it for a month now, and after using the Belkin folio case, the samsung one is ten times better, and thinner. Also if you use the code SUMMER2011 on the samsung website you will get 15% off your order. Not a bad deal. I wouldnt knock it until you try it first hand.

The more I look at it, the better this case seems. It's still a little bit pricey, but it seems to be worth it.
Do you know of any worthy alternatives to this case?
after trying this:
rooCASE Slim-Fit
and
Samsung Galaxy Tablet Pouch
i went with the pouch.
the roocase was nice and slim but did take away from the wow!-it's-light-and-thin factor. i feel any of the cases that stay on the sgt will do that.
one of the main reasons i went with the sgt, like you, was for it's size and weight. every ipad2 owner (almost everyone in my family!) who has played with my sgt has mentioned how thin and light it is, prefaced with "wow!". i love using it naked!
i also have squaretrade insurance just in case i drop it. not saying the roocase or similar would protect it from drops.

Yes, I have also looked into this option. It is an attractive alternative to the folio case, for sure.
The Samsung book case will probably be the thinnest option you'll find other than getting an invisible shield on the front and the back and then forgetting about a case completely. I have the book case and although it's got some functional challenges and it's over-priced, the build quality is superb and it actually adds to the aesthetic appeal of the Tab.
I got the roocase and this keeps the tablet pretty thin and light i love that case and i think it's a good buy for whoever wants to buy a thin slim case
Anyone here got the Samsung Book Cover case with the camera hole closer to the locking flap rather than the folding edge? I hate it how my device is upside down when in the 'typing' angle.
I have heard that the only way to overcome this issue is to put the Tab in the case upside down so that it would be right side up in the typing mode.
However, this would completely do away with the camera and headphone jack functionality and is therefore not a real solution.

Thought on the official book cover case?

Does anyone who has owned this case for a bit have any opinion on it? How is the quality and such?

No protection for the bottom part of the tablet. Closing the case does not ensure the screen is actually protected as the part the screen is covered with can slide off of it. Dumped it quickly.

I do agree with some of the comments above however it is my case of choice. I sold a quality noreve leather case and stuck with the original Samsung book cover case as my daily driver with a solution to full protection using another protective case along with it.

You compromise portability by using two of those together. Check the one that was made by Samsung for Galaxy Tab 10.1 with a flap over the bottom part of the device and see how you could avoid using two cases instead of one.
Thank you for your feedback! Where do you get the fancy pen? I really like the thin form of the case. Can see it really well in your pictures.

Yes indeed it was a compromise however the weight of the two together was roughly the same as the leather case I had so for me did not matter. This setup gives me reassuarnce that even after a hard drop, the tablet should be safe whilst transporting as it is whilst on the move, that I am more likely to drop it. Once it it is in the office or at home, it is kept on the desk or on my bed without much risk of dropping and then I have the lightest and practical cover for my specific needs.
I have also purchased another bag that has a secure slot for any 10" tablet with padding around it and is used when I need to carry more than just my tablet with me and similarly when I take the tablet out, it is usually at a desk, this also eliminates the need for me to carry the second housing.
At the time of me buying my case, the one with the securing flap was not available otherwise I probably would have purchased that one instead. Having said that, I still probably would have bought a secondary case for transporting as the Samsung ones are too thin for real protection but are the most practical in my opinion.
The moral here is, if you are considering buying one of these thin cases, it is advisable to consider a second protective case or buy a fully protective leather / pu case that is adequately padded with the downside of it making the tablet feel a lot heavier.

I currently have the White GALAXY Note 10.1, and I had a faux leather case (generic) from Amazon, and gave it about 2 months of use.
After that I decided to risk my money and bet on the official book cover (in white, as well).
I must say it is extremely durable and gorgeous. It has, somehow, a corporate look, it's extremely thin and the back is well protected.
The cover, on the insides, has a thin and soft veil-like texture, and it sort of acts as a screen cleaner, each time you lift up the front part of the cover. (only applies to naked screen).
All in all, it's durable, I have the white for 2 months now and it's still the same pristine white as it was when it came in the box.
It's resistant and the writing position just works (no Steve Jobs quote intended).
If you have doubts, well, I recommend it!
official Samsung case is good looking, nice design, ****y quality and protection - mine is getting bubless by time on margins - squeezing it does remove them but wtf?! I recommend looking for something else !
I have been using the case for abouta week. I also havea screen protector on the tablet.
pros:
Very light weight
Feels good
Offers several viewing angles, when it works. See cons
Cons:
Magnets are not very strong and don't always hold it in the more up upright position.
Does not positively close, so it can expose your screen in a bag or back pack..
That said, I've been trying other solutions and none seem quite right. I have a gel case thatI bought to bulk up the tab to fit in a cheap cardboard folio usb keyboard case I have left over from another tablet. Although not very elegant, I thinkI will use it for travel as I can use the keyboard on airplanes, it provides extra protection, andI can remove three tablet with the gel case for just walking around. Just need a sturdy OTG and this set up is still less expensive than the official Samsung cover, unless you snag one of the 34.00$ deals from Amazon.
I've also tried the BT keyboard cover. Someone just needs to make one, who had actually useda tablet. Put the same clips in both sides so you don't have one that interferes with the space bar, make the shift and cap keys smaller so the keys can geta bit bigger and fall under you fingers, providea deeper trough so the tab is steadier and the back rest can be redesigned to help with that. I'm sure ZAGG will figure it out.
Finally because of the cons of the Samsung, I am thinking of ordering one of the knock offs that has the flap that closes on the back like the one for the tab10. I think I've seen it where the while thing, flap included, rolls like the iPad cover.
Finally, Samsung needs to work out the magnet thing, offer a smart cover, which should at least be possible with the phone variants.
I guess the simple answer to you question is mixed feelings about the official cover.

I ordered two knockoffs for wife and I. When it gets in from China, official covers go back to Best Buy. They offer virtually no protection and are so not worth the $50 each I paid for two.
I have a question to book cover owners: is it possible to rest your wrist on the tablet while taking notes when book cover is in the position like on the attached screen shot? Or your hand is to heavy and you and the magnet will slip of the back?
I would say that that position is ideal for typing and not the best position for resting the palm on especially if you are heavy handed as it's not really designed for taking heavy loads.

I'm looking for a case that could handle my wrist when taking notes in a position like on the previous screen shoot, probably I will take a look at this one: puro case unfortunately it looks like no one from xda forums is using this one :/
One thing I notice with this case is that it does not cover the camera. I really like that. If you pick it up please review it!

This case does in fact cover the camera when folded back.
Does it? Do you have a picture of that?

I can confirm that yes when the case is folded the back camera is covered. In order to take a picture with back camera you would need to hold up the flap while pushing the on screen capture. Not as difficult as it sounds but you look stupid doing it. I mean if your taking pictures in public with your tablet you look like a tool already so it shouldn't bother you to much. Ill get a picture on here soon.

Smart Cover Case

I've been looking everywhere for a case that protects the entire tablet, including the bezzel, like the iPad air smart case. Has anyone seen anything similar for Note 10.1 2014? Something with TPU for the body and Trifold for the screen. Thanks in advance.
I looking too to this kind of case, but i didn't find yet...
I switch to Nexus 10.1 2014 Edition from iPad, and I miss the smart cover...
Anyone help?
I ordered a book cover for my Note 10.1 2014 from alixpress.com. It's very nice high quality case. Brand name is Rock. The only problem is you have to wait for 3 weeks because It ships from china. There are about 3 models and a few color available. The link below is the one I bought. Very happy with it.

Let me tell why I love this case. I have an iPad with the case you posted. It's ok, but this case comes in two parts. A leather case for the tablet itself. When you insert your tablet into this case, the flap that holds it in tucks inside the case and is secured by Velcro. You're not going to snag the flap open by accident. That inner case has a landscape prop and an elastic strap that allows holding the tablet my slipping your hand in it. The portfolio isn't just a cover, there ids a tongue with a snap on it to pop the case to and you can pivot the case inside the portfolio. At this point the portfolio doubles as a stand for landscape or portrait. When I'm charging at night, I pivot the case on the snap so the charge port is on the top.
I'm not afraid of dropping this case when it's zipped close while commuting, and I'm not afraid of getting my tablet wet either, unless it ends up in a pool, lake, ocean or fountain. Lol under those conditions, I would have my mind on other things.
I hope this helps.
Oh, the portfolio is smart, in the sense that when you open the cover, it launches a today screen.

I bought both Moko cases they offer for the 2014 edition (along with their carbon fiber multi stand one). Since Christmas I have played with both cases. I have been using the slim fit more. It's lightweight, protective, and has the smart wake. The Today screen can be disabled, and is on mine. I personally have the one with purple and brown flowers on a white background. I didn't think I would like it....but I really do and get compliments all the time.
My local store had a smart case

I think this may be close to what your looking for, about $20 on Amazon. It looks nice but......... no charging port hole when case is closed.

Sorry for the long delay, but I wait for verified, or fairly close, "menu > settings > General Tab > Accessories (under "Device Manager" ) > Book Cover (on the right "uncheck Daynote" )
This should, no promises, turn off the "Today Page"
I won't try to convince you that it's great. I hope this helps months later

Official Book Cover for Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7"

Hey guys, I just bought the Official Book Cover for the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7" version. I'll drop a review video this time next week. Got the black and the gold for my wife. Until then here are some pics. BTW...It's a pretty awesome case!
How secure are the magnets? Does it come off easily?
Hi,
I bought this cover for my tab s2 8.0 but i thought it was terrible. It's hard to attach the tab to the mountingpoints and hard to take off in case you don't want to use the cover. Then i thought that the standingpoint were not very stable. The pad would fall flat lots of times.
I had to take it take to the store.
In my opinion this cover costs too much money not to be 200% perfect.

I think the cover is very good, I agree with you about how hard to put on or remove, to put it on, just lye flat the cover and push the tablet firmly, as to remove you have to put your finger in between the cover and tablet and force it out, with constant removing the contact will get loose over time.
The cover does provide good protection, but with time, the corners do get a little worn out.
Not sure if it's available in your country, but buying it from my country you get a discount upon purchase of the tablet, the discounted price is USD 34 instead of the USD 52 normal price, I'm just waiting to see if other colors are available before I get one, in Hong Kong we have the black, lite beige, gold and I think dark red, I see that other countries have lite blue that I'm after.
Just got the red one last night and I must say, its one good cover. Very sturdy and high quality. Sure there are little nuances to learn but it wasnt an issue propping it up and it protects well.
Very good cover.Using about one month, everything is awesome.Few fixed possitions are very usefull.
Same, bought the black 9.7" cover. I like like it. Just finding it hard to get a screen protector in Australia haha. Been into the Samsung store but they still don't have the keyboard cover.
Got mine (white one) for free with my tab. Very nice and thin product, seems like iPad cover. I'm just waiting for Samsung white keyboard and it will be perfect
I got my original cover just today,
I had a Rock Leather Case which the plastic edge close to power button broke in a day, and it made the tiny tab S2 so much thicker.
Other than a bit hard to attach the original cover and possibly much harder to detach it, I'm loving it.
I purchased mine via Amazon.com and have had it for about a month now, used without any flaws discovered. At first, I struggled to get the case on but once it was locked into place, it's felt secure every since. Also, the keyboard is pretty awesome.
I like this case a lot except that it's too slippery with the cover folded back. If I try to hold it up in portrait with just one hand it slips... am I doing this wrong...?

I guess it doesn't hut to add another positive review for this book cover. Its nice, slim, smooth refined finish, magnets work great and best of all is low key, not flashy at all. Couldnt be happier

I left my S2 8 on a chair at a meeting and when I returned I found someone sitting on the chair with my tab beneath her.
Looks like no damage.
If this remains true then the Official Book Cover is a great case.
Shofar
I own one of the original book covers for the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and I would highly recommend it for the following reasons:
1) The tablet is protected and still easy to use at the same time, which in my opinion doesn't apply for sleeves and similar solutions.
2) It enables me to put the tablet in a stable landscape orientation, which makes it quite comfortable to write using the internal keyboard.
However, I admit that attaching it was a bit tricky and that so far I did not try to remove it.
Yesterday I dropped my Tab inside it's cover, closed, from about 2 feet. The Tab actually cut through the cover and it dented the Tabs top right corner. The cover even opened and the Tab was resting face down directly on the ground... not so impressed... could have been worse but still... damn I hate that it's not pristine anymore...

If the Tab still works and the screen is not cracked it sounds like it is a great cover.
How did the tab cut through the cover?
Did it come detached from the magnetic holders?

I guess it fell on the front corner and since it's sharp it cut through the cover. It seems the paint chipped off too.
Yeah the screen didn't break but the cover fully opened by itself and the screen ended up on the floor...

I just got this 9.7 case yesterday direct from Samsung with the 50% discount via the tablet registration and it's the best choice. I highly recommend it to anyone. If you are on the fence about it, don't be. It's perfect.

Tab S2 cover like the Apple one

Hi! The Tab S2 is very thin and light, so it is a pity to loose those features with a big and heavy case.. I tried to find something like the Apple cover, but no success till now! any advise?!

There are many available on the market, but it also includes a back protection, you can also consider the official Samsung book cover.
Screen protector. That's all my S2 is going to wear!
I'm enjoying how light this tablet is and it's replaced my Microsoft surface 3 for daily use

The official Samsung book cover, whilst covering back, is still super thin. Is actually still thinner than an iPad air with its cover as above.

The cover sold as Samsung cover is just perfect, if you are looking to keep it thin.

AliExpress has several covers that are packaged just like Samsung Book covers in more colors. I ordered 2 and they seem like the Samsung originals. The snaps fit well. They are 14.30, with free China Post shipping.

Fake and over priced, they only cost about USD 3 each.
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EJ-FT810UBEGUJ Best cover for Tab S2 I think
This is the case I have for mine. Quite thin and light. Has a nice smooth, soft touch feel too

I think the perfect cover was the Samsung Simple Cover which was released for the older Tab S - I can't post links yet so you'll have to Google it
It just clipped onto the notches at the back and protected the screen without adding bulk (I'm not worried about the back. It's the screen I want to protect when the tablet is in my bag etc). I'm hoping to get something like that for my Tab S2 when/if it becomes available
Samsung Tab S2 is amazing tablets with great features. Yes, Its very thin and light weight. The camera and sound are really amazing.
I have been looking for this type of cover (front only like the ipad or tab S) for a while too, no luck. Please post a link if you know of something similar.

The ones I got for my original Tab S were crap. The case itself felt like thin cheap cardboard and the one button kept coming undone. The only redeeming quality was the magnet was stronger. The magnet in the samsung one was beyond weak and never held up to any sort of gaming or movement and kept flattening out.
I ended up picking up the book case with the plastic snap in back. Adds a touch of thickness, but the magnet is stronger, the case feels more premium than the china two button ones, and it does provide more protection. Here it is.
But honestly, the book type covers are much more stable and solid when in the different stand modes than the ones where lid folds over itself into a triangle. But I guess it's more about what's important to you.
The roocase origami is the most beautiful and thinnest cases you can find

How is it thinner with a shell than the simple covers that utilize the snap in buttons? Seems like kind of a wash.

Hi Folks, before, i allways bought third-party covers for my tabs.......at the Tab S2 (SM-T815 LTE), i tried different ones, but they are all much too heavy, so i don`t want to make a ultra light weight Tabelet to a heavy duty one.........And, I´m also using a bluetooth keyboard most of time, if i had to wrote longer EMails and other things......so, this time i got the original samsung one :
http://www.samsung.com/at/consumer/mobile-devices/accessories/input/EJ-FT810MBEGDE
And, it`s really perfect!!! With the keyboard within, it`s a bit heavy, ok, but it`s ok for a complete device, with external keys. But! You can put the magnetic holded keyboard out to use it complete seperately (By the way with two different devices). And the cover only is very tight and light weight. So, the tab is covered, you have three possibilities to make it as a stand by the magnetic holders, and, the tab`s display goes out if you close the cover.
The keys are amazing! You have specialized Android keys, a mouse pad, and it works just perfect !!!!! And you can handle the keyboard complete seperatly, that`s what i really like............
BTW : I also bought the docking station , with 2 USB Ports, charging input, HDMI out and LAN connector.....this is awesome !!!! And, this is not connected like the other docking stations by putting the device directly on a micro usb pin! It have a short cable, so you can choose the direction for the tab by yourself..........and it works perfect also. LAN connection in office or at home is great, very fast. And you can keep all beeing connected, just put the tab in the stand, connect the cable and all is running. At the beginning, i have some Problems with apps like Chrome, they only accept a 3/4G or Wifi connection, but there is a app in playstore calles "true ethernet" that is simulating a 4G Connection for LAN, this app runs in the background, so you just have to install it...thats all, and you can use all apps with a ethernet connection also......think you need root for this app........
The Samsung keyboard cover is a bit more expensive than the other ones, but not so much, but if you try it, you will see, it`s really better to spend this more money, so you have a device and cover, that fits 100 percent for your device.....
