Hi, i am new to xda and i am totally unaware of its policies rn, so pardon me if i did something wrong
The question is how to check the international version of used htc m8 before buying from market ? Because i m fond of flashing roms, and previosly i owned korean devices, and usually there is huge variety of custom roms for international varients , so i want to buy an international variant of m8 , so i was wondering if any expert could help me out ? i have searched alot but i have no idea about MID or CID, i mean how am i supposed to run adb while buying Guidence would be much appreciated . Thanks
When you restart the phone, hold pressed volume down (same if you turn it on). It will enter bootloader menu and there it will have firmware number. It should be 6.14.401.xx (can't remember the last two digits, but they are not important for your need).

Just put the IMEI of the phone you are looking at https://imei24.com/imei_check/HTC/
It will tell you all the details of the phone where it was originally sold and whether it is locked, unlocked, international. carrier. everything.
I've bought many M8 phones by just checking online through their IMEI information.
Every M8 has Model ID written on the bottom back on the phone under the antenna line. for example mine is 0P6B100 which is International/European MID.
I've seen phones with the back completely cleaned/changed. Also I've seen Chinese/Korean phones looking exactly like M8 from outside. Even the software same. But they had some strange lag. When I checked IMEI then I found out the truth.
In short, the device's frame can be changed. Software can be changed but if the IMEI is genuine it will tell you the truth.

Hello everyone. I got my One X last week. The store said it's from Hong Kong though honestly I'm not sure given the severely limited amount of information inside the package. The system languages are English and two variants of Chinese however so presumably it is indeed the HK model.
Anyway, I've been waiting for this OTA upgrade that everyone's talking about and then read something that it's only available for 40X software versions. Mine is 1.26.708.2. Does anyone else have 708?
Also are these glitches found by people with other software versions:
1. Wifi Hotspot turns off randomly.
2. The SIM is frequently "lost" and either requires complete reboot or else the machine will issue a message that it's "Preparing SIM" for a minute.
3. The music player will stop for a second and then continue while playing (this I've head from other users).
4. The screen will turn back on after you turn it off. It's almost immediate.
708 is the number for a branded version specific to HK. 401 = European generic.
All 1.26 versions are roughly the same but branding and bundled applications will differ as each operator will do it different.
Oh is that for all Android phones, for all HTC phones, or just this one in particular? Also there is no carrier branding on the phone, just the HTC logo. Or is it such that only generic European models are truly unbranded?
Also, is it true that the current OTA update is only for the European models and thus applying it to my phone either won't work or will brick it?
Thanks.

It is how HTC do it. The third number is specific to that model though. 708 will mean something else for another HTC phone.
Other manufacturers will signify different branded versions in some other fashion.

If you've got ADB then run "adb shell getprop ro.cid" to get the CID which identifies what branding it has.

No. There are generic Asian/HK and other versions as well. The generic European version is popular because it is in English and so are the majority of the users of this forum.

You should only apply OTA updates that are specific to your version.

If you are interested to find out the origin of your phone, you can do so at the China HTC website. (try Google translating if you cant read chinese). Not sure why their site has the IMEI checker.
http://www.htc.com/cn/contact/#chat-online
click on the online CSO chat during operating hours and you can key in ur IMEI and serial no. It should show where ur phone is from
I'm checking on Htcs website in Germany (where I live) and there's no mention of the developer edition, it justs shows me retail stores where I can buy the regular unlocked gsm edition , can you unlock the regular unlocked gsm edition without voiding the warranty?
I have a similar question, so instead of starting a new thread, I figured I'd try here first.
I also live in Germany and I thought that the phone I bought unlocked was what many forums are referring to as "international unlocked". However, after the Lollipop update I tried to look into the software number and it turned out that I got a T-Mobile phone with CID T-MOB101. As far as the GSM is concerned, the phone is unlocked, I'm using it with O2 for example. But the update to Lollipop has the T-Mobile version 4.19.111.2. I read that 111 here actually refer to T-Mobile.
So my question is : what is meant by international unlocked and can one actually buy one in Germany?

The US Developer Edition comes with the bootloader already unlocked (if that's what you mean)
The EU handset comes locked and you have to unlock it and technically does void your warranty

The question of rooting confuses me as well. I'm not so worried about the warranty since in Europe it is rather inefficient anyway. However, all guides keep stating that "it is not for everyone" and that one has to "root responsibly" in order to stay safe.
At the same time, many things that seem useful (such as complete backups, firewalls, permissions control by e.g. ApOps, etc) are only possible on rooted devices. And these are not some eye candy tweaks, without such tools it seems impossible to control the device. I mean, without rooting I can't even get rid of FM radio, what's up with that!
Yes, people might say, just leave it alone, pretend it's not there. But there are tons of apps on the phone that I do not need/use and I can't even disable them. Perhaps I can't use the memory if I delete them, perhaps they drain the battery only a little bit if I don't use them, but to me it's very annoying that I am not in control of MY phone. It's not sponsored by any carrier, I paid what was asked for it, I reckon it's mine now.
Dear Friends,
Itching to order a Note 7. Based on what we saw with the S7 line, I am assuming that the Snapdragon US models will be locked down with their BLs. That I believe just leaves me with the option of N930F (UK/Europe model) or the N930FD (South East Asian) model.
For the life of me, I don't understand why the Dual-SIM model is cheaper than the single one, probably cause it's geared for Asian markets? However, from what I understand they both have EXACTLY the SAME hardware and Radios, am I correct?
So the simple question is:
For a person that values Root and unlocked Bootloader, that lives in the US, uses AT&T (could switch to T-Mobile) what is the BEST variant for me to order? N930F or N930FD?
Second most important question: Can the ROMs developed for N930F be also used on N930FD? And the same goes for Stock firmware flashes, in case things go south from the Rooting trail?
Would appreciate any prompt input guys, thank you!

Thanks for your response friend! Would the FD had any less compatibility in the US or less development, ROM, or stock firmware support than the regular F?

Its basically the international version, comes unlocked. Should be stock firmware. Not sure about development but compatibility is the same as the s7 edge. So it should work. At least I know it works on t-mobile. Not sure about at&t. It does not work with verizon or sprint. cause they cmda.

Thanks again for your response bud. So again, you don't think the FD would be any less compatible than the regular F in the US? Trying to see out of the International models, if there is any reason to get the Dual-SIM model over the the regular single SIM model or not? Other than the obvious difference of using two SIMs, I am interested in knowing if one has any advantage over the other in terms of Development support on XDA, Warranty issues in the US (UK model vs. the Asian model (Dual SIM)), and any radio differences between the F and FD?

Not 100% sure on the internal differences didn't really do research into that. As for warranty there basically is none. Its the main downside. I don't think there are any radio differences, but don't quote me. You are basically paying for dual sim and unlocked "vanilla" international note 7. USA versions are locked and may have rooting/development issues but will be more popular of model.

Hi Guys,
I'm tired of asking for more and more details and not enough answers. Can you guys help me come up with a bottom line?
If I need an unlocked Bootloader and custom development support and using the phone in the US on AT&T or T-Mobile, which variant should I get? The regular N930F or the Dual SIM version the N930FD?
Thanks for your help!

Dude....we are so sorry that your just so tired of asking questions and not getting enough answers..
NOT!
If you want help i suggest losing that type of attitude...you come off sounding very entitled which is not something which is looked at fondly here.
Now since I can answer you question I will despite what you wrote.
given past history across a few devices Ive the regular F version seem to see more development than the dual sim model.
Dual sim does get some support but always muchess than the F version.
Unless you need dual sim I would recommend the regular F version hands down.
Tmo does have at least one diff\extra frequencie..(band 12 i think) than AT&T so likely the F version will work better on ATT but there are guys running on Tmo with it.
Id take a closer look at compatibility with Tmo before dropping your hard earned cash on it though...always good to do some homework before buying.
All that said and as I mentioned in your quote the Canadian version is also exynos and an exact match band wise for ATT. May be easier to buy from here than an international version
Hole that helps some?

Hey bud, thanks for your detailed response and that seemed to have been my inkling too. Haha I apologize if my tone sounded entitled. I kinda felt that it could be misinterpreted that way, as I wrote it, but I thought you guys will be cool and probably get what I meant. What I meant was, I'm tired of myself asking the question questions and letting or from pulling the trigger on an order ?. I'm an XDA Senior Member since 2008 or 2009. Check all my previous posts, I'm far from being entitled and an ass, really LOL! But thanks for living up to the greatness of this community and still answering my question, despite being annoyed ?. My apologies to anyone else who interprets my post the same way as you did ?!
You guys are the best, proud to be a member of this community ?!
I am trying to decode a serial number to find if it is the correct model number. Is there a way to do it?
Reason behind this is there are lots of phone on ebay that are Unlocked to GSM however they are actually Sprint or Verizon phone that has been rooted to make it look like T Mobile, hence you miss some important bands.

It doesn't mean that the device is rooted, root access is applied at software level and not on firmware level. it can run stock software without root. It does mean that the device is made S-OFF in order to convert it from CDMA to GSM firmware, i'm not into CDMA - GSM conversions but i believe it comes with a certain risk of bricking the device.
If you need a GSM device i would only go for an original one, not a converted one. Your question about the serial number stands, i don't know if there is a public record of those numbers.

I'm not sure that this is any help since I don't see that it provides what you're looking for, but it should explain how the serial number is built.

I am looking to get this phone and needed some advice. I haven't bought a cellular branded phone for a long while. I usually go with the USA Factory unlocked version. On this phone is the cellular named stamped on the back of the phone? I know the model for the USA Unlocked version is G820QM (with a 7 at the end at times) but it is honestly harder to find. What does everyone recommend on this phone in regards to getting the cellular branded one or should I keep trying to find the USA Unlocked version? What about bloatware with the different cellular branded ones? How is that? Can you get rid of the bloatware? I also like what I call the LG Branded ones as they get the updates faster do they not? Please help me. I am looking for a phone and this one stuck out at me unless someone suggests a different phone with similar specs to this one? Thanks so much! :good:

Unsure where you're from, but stay away from the AT&T unlocked model (my model G820UM), I'm from the UK and ordered one, big mistake, AT&T does not send any update to their phones if they are not using an AT&T SIM card in the US, some users have been successful in updating they're OS, by just using a AT&T SIM card outside of the US, some haven't and I haven't tried it, because I don't want to waste more money on a SIM card when the results are not 100% guaranteed.
There is no way of cross flashing a different ROM, so you will be stuck without updates, until someone finds a way of cross flashing a ROM from an unlocked model. I'm checking this forum regularly hoping some has found a solution, but nothing so far
If you are in the US and on AT&T then it will fine, bloatware (which is a lot) can be removed/disabled easily
Honestly, for the price I paid (£280), I think the Xiaomi Mi9 would have been a better option, similar specs, updates every 2 months and you're able to unlock bootloader, not the best process to unlock the bootloader, but still possible (just need to wait for permission from Xiaomi which could take a few weeks), you'll be missing out on the best headphone jack, better cameras (not by much) and better battery life, for a similar price I think this is the best deal for snapdragon 855 phone.
If you don't mind paying a bit more and want the same features as the G8, go for the Samsung S10.

Yep no luck, I've sold the phone, I was wasting too much time trying to find a solution, so just sold it and claimed my sanity back xD
Going back to the trusty Xperia 5, timely updates and great software and they are going for around £260 so easily recommended.
That's too bad, AT&T must be interfering, because I just purchased an unlocked G8 in Canada, and it updated to 10 over WiFi, before I inserted a SIM from my carrier (Bell Mobility). Phone was not on Bell originally.

Yep, this a AT&T "feature", want updates? Buy at AT&T SIM card and use it in the US, guess they don't want anyone outside the US to use their products, unsure why, but it is what it is...

Is 10 really that big a deal from 9? I have 9 on my phone i could care less if it gets 10 and I am pretty sure it wont , lol
I feel like if we have temp root then it's only a matter of time before we get TWRP and roms. I just picked up an AT&T model for $178. Not sure if it's unlocked, but fairly easy through AT&T. Just worried if we have an exploit, updating to 10 might invalidate it.
I come from PS3/xbox 360 hacking, haha.
