It's since I've updated my OP3 to Nougat that Adaway doesn't block anymore the ads. I've followed the steps for Nougat (written on the Adaway thread here on XDA) that are:
1. disable data saver on Chrome browser
2. enable systemless install of hosts file on Adaway settings if the phone is rooted with systemless root (I've SuperSu 2.79 last stable of 12/2016)
Also with these steps, I continue to see the ads on web pages and some apps.
I heard of Magisk, a new way of root, and I read that it has an adblocker module. Do you recommend Magisk over SuperSu? Or do you use regularly SuperSu as me?
Please help me!
Same problem here.
Happened both with Magisk and SuperSU.
You could try adding some extra lists? Try these.

you could try flashing from this page,https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916098. But just be aware that it blocks a lot of other websites too if you use the full version.

No worries. Only thing with those lists is it does block porn sites as well.

I don't know which adaway version you tried, but the one from the official f-droid page works perfectly fine
with SuperSU and Magisk (I tried both) on Nougat. There is also no need to set it to systemless.
Simply install it, apply it and reboot your device just to be safe.

I use the XDA Labs one, I'll try with the one on F-Droid site so and also I don't check the systemless flag.
I'll try in a few hours Thanks
I use it and some sites tell me I use a adblocker. Magisk v12 and systemless Host file active. It works fine here.
I use this with Magisk on 4.1.3 ob16

You use this version + Host file from Magisk Mods ? I am a little confused about the putting into operation.
Adaway works. Not blocking all but works.
I mean i use Magisk not SuperSU.

I'm using Magisk with the adblock module, it's awesome.
Just flash Magisk, enable systemless hosts, install the module from the app, restart, open terminal, su, hosts and choose what you want to block
Sent from my OnePlus 3 using XDA Labs
You could also try adding StevenBlack's consolidated list.
Here is my settings, it works fine (I have disabled few sources because they are already in the consolidated list!)
Thanks to all of you for the tips. I've installed the F-Droid version (not systemless) and it seems to block ads as before.
For now I remain with SuperSu, if I face problems in future I'll reply again to this post.
Thanks again
I continue to see ads, I'm on the same OS version of when I replied to this thread.
I'm going to update my OP3 in the coming weeks.
Do you recommended to use Magisks instead of SuperSU?
With SuperSU do you see ads on these website?
http://www.mangaeden.com/it/it-manga/one-piece/867/1/
I do
Finally I flashed Magisk instead of SU after an update and now the ads were gone.
So, Magisk is best now, also after the announcement that SU have done in the last months...

So the latest Pokémon go update blocks rooted and jailbroken phones. Has anyone had luck playing Pokémon with an app like root cloak (Xposed)??
Magisk v6 and phh's superuser might do the trick
Take look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-magisk-v1-universal-systemless-t3432382
Hope that helps, cuz I don't play it, so idk
My phone is rooted and custom ROM and I have no problem playing as of last night PGO 0.37.
Like BoiBundy says Magisk works fine... http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/09/11/guide-play-pokemon-go-0-37-rooted-android-magisk/
Strange, For me pokemon go works without a problem on a RR official. I even have some apps working with root.
Iam in the latest cm13 nightly build, with rooted phone and pokemon go its not working.
Any ideas?
I'm looking at it actually, I blocked update on play store for now, I'm on miui 8 and it's a bit different than other rom so I don't know if we can use magisk or not.... Also because it's recommended to use it on stock ROM....

Hi,
I've succeeded to bypass root verification: you can follow Magisk v6.0 method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-magisk-v1-universal-systemless-t3432382)
Briefly,
1. You have to totally unroot your phone (trust me...), uninstall xposed -->
2. Grab Magisk v6.0 (.zip), phh's supersuser magisk version (.zip), xposed magisk version 86.5 (.zip)
3. Boot in recovery TWRP
4. Flash Magisk 6.0 then phh's superuser then xposed
5. Boot normally and install Magisk Manager (.apk)
6 You can now switch between root or unroot, before and after playing
P.S.: I've OxygenOS stock
---------- Post added at 08:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:58 PM ----------
... AND install phh's superuser apk of course...

Yes, I uninstalled xposed and it now works. Getting Pokemon to work with Xposed is a little more tricky...
Not worth all the trouble. I ditched Pokémon. It's ridiculous rooted players getting blocked. No I didn't cheat with Xposed modules. I simply played only with my 6 yr old daughter. Niantic can go suck a ****

I used chainfire's suhide to play pokemon go and android Pay with both root and xposed
SuperSU 2.78 SR-1 + SuHide 0.53 works fine. No need to add it to blacklist, just flash and play
If you have 86.5 xposed installed, it'll still detect it

Hello everyone
Recently due to Niantic's decision to prohibit root users of playing Pokémon Go I decided to give a try to Magisk. I followed every step and even flashed my ROM again.
But when trying phh's root it wont work. Rootchecker says root was not correctly installed and trying to use any root app won't make Superuser show any prompt for root permissions.
Thank you so much for the help guys.

I flash Magisk v6 and phh's on TWRP. On the other hand I use the stock ROM MM 6.0.1 build 32.2.A.0.253
Apparently Magisk doesn't work properly on Sony devices. See topjohnwu's OP in the Magisk thread.
It partially works for me with some apps like Adaway and TiBU requesting for permissions and working properly but with most other apps not requesting root.

You can use mr.bump after flash magisk, that will do the trick. In my case magisk breaks my rom RIL but there is another option, Chainfire's suhide. You can use it with Super SU without problem and it hides root from each app individually.

Yep.
So for me (i'm on android aosp 7.0) i dont think that mathers but...
Before you do this make sure that you have no root or xposed
The steps are the following:
1 - On twrp terminal enter these 2 comands (to ensure systemless root)
echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
echo BINDSYSTEMXBIN=false>>/data/.supersu
2- Flash the latest SuperSU v2.78 SR1 or newer
3- Flash mr.bump or cbump (to bump the kernel)
4- Reboot the phone and see if you have root
5- Use FlashFire from chainfire (because twrp doesnt work well, dont know why) to flash suhide
6- If all goes well you should have saftynet pass (pokemon and androidpay are already on blacklist)

Dunno if Magisk works anymore, there's a dedicated thread in the Magisk forum. On my S3 (which is my backup phone) I have it all installed, excluding xposed. suhide works.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/discussion-pokemon-magisk-discussion-t3465722
Might reinstall the NamelessROM today to see if only systemless SuperSU and suhide are enough.
I used the latest "boot to root" from Chainfire, but I am unable to get AdAway to install properly. I'm assuming that this is because the current root method is /system-less and without TWRP, I am unable to flash the AdAway /system-less compatibility mod.
Is there another method to get AdAway (or any other alternative) working?
For what it's worth, I've already modified my build.prop file, so I'm not interesting in preserving the state of /system.

That seems to have worked, thank you!
I kind of wonder if the one I already had installed had the systemless option, oh well!
I've used systemless Adaway for a long time but haven't figured out how to install it on the November update. In the past I would install AdAway_systemless_hosts_v2.zip from TWRP and then install AdAway-org.adaway-3.1.2-57.apk or whatever is the newest version.
From what I have read, twrp-3.1.1-alpha1-taimen.img will not boot on the November update, so I'd like to know if or how others are installing it. I think I might be able to go back to the October update to do it, but I'd rather not.

Aha, that did it, thank you so much! Once I enabled systemless host in Magisk, the box was immediately checked in Adaway. I don't know how I missed that, but I did go back to SuperSU for awhile where the zip file was apparently still necessary.
So I am going to necro bump this thread since I have the exact same issue except that enabling systemless mode. In Magisk does absolutely nothing for me. On the latest Magisk (16.0) and Adaway (3.3).Rooted OnePlus 5, stock Oxygen 5.1.3 (Oreo 8.1)
And while I am at it, once upon a time I was able to turn Adaway on/off on the fly without reboot. Somewhere along the way I lost that capability. Is that an Oreo "feature"?
