Hi all,
I'm currently not encrypted and prefer to keep it that way, I don't like entering passwords everytime I go to TWRP and I prefer the old school android system where encryption was a choice, not a mandatory decision made for you.
So when I install a ROM I run a few commands prior to installation to avoid forced encryption, unless it has an option within aroma to disable force encryption which most don't
Thanks to @j to the 4n for help with this, legend
Anyway if you'd like to install a ROM like lineage or aosp or resurrection remix etc and remain not encrypted? Keep reading.
*Note: if you're encrypted prior to doing this then stop, this is for people who've chosen to disable force encryption already but would like to retain it after installing aosp / lineage ROMs.
However if you'd like to remove encryption you'll need to format data via TWRP, not a wipe! Format.
Make sure you back up prior to doing this as it will format data, best to have the ROM on your SD card too so you don't end up with no OS.
If you've done the above or you already have a ROM installed without encryption, then you should be good to go.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just before youre about to install a ROM, let's say resurrection remix ( tested )
Make sure your phone is in TWRP and you're connected to your PC then just before you're about to click install, open up a command prompt on your PC then from ADB shell send the following commands to the device from your PC..
For Magisk:
echo "KEEPFORCEENCRYPT=false" >> /cache/.magisk
If the rom uses SuperSU, send the following commands.
echo "KEEPFORCEENCRYPT=false" >> /data/.supersu
echo "KEEPFORCEENCRYPT=false" >> /cache/.supersu
Then install your rom as normal.
Obviously for ROMs like viper your don't need to do this as there is an option within aroma, but for the likes of RR or lineage this will mean your phone will not encrypt on boot.
Should work for all ROMs but I've not tested this on all of them so if it goes wrong then it's not on me, this worked perfectly for me on RR coming from viper whilst not encrypted.
*Note: if you're not sure what root method your ROM uses then simply send all three commands and you should be good to go.
By using these you're not going to find yourself in TWRP being asked for a password you don't have as your device has been encrypted, I've lost data myself this way and it's extremely annoying.
:good:
If I can ask if anyone tries this and it works, would you mind replying with what it worked on so I can update the OP.
Cheers.
PS: if you're not sure what this is or have any questions, please ask away
Anyway to do this from the device for when your not near a PC?

Yes i believe it is, would need to write up a script which is ran prior to installing the rom, i've not got around to doing it yet.
Strictly speaking this should be an option with all roms, it's not exactly a lot of work is it?

Works pretty well on Stock ROM.
Just RUU'd, and before rebooting went into download mode, flashed Recovery, flashed SuperSU, used this Command. and boom.
Multirom works.
I used to have a one plus 3 and for some time before everyone used forced decryption the good ol friends from kali net hunter made a forced decryption zip, I will put a link down below, but listen when I say this, every time you flash a new boot .Img, or rom on the htc 10 you need to flash this if you want to stay decrypted. Its ok if you flash multiple times.
The file you want is, "no verity force encrypt".
I've used it on almost every aosp and stock based rom I've flashed also used on many custom kernels to, it still stayed decrypted.

Yea it's used on the OnePlus 5 too. I wrote this prior to knowing of its existence and because the likes of lineage and other ROMs just assume you know, no warning.
Losing data is not fun.

Yeah it pisses me off. But at least with this handy zip you can flash it anyway and have some mental relief that you stay decrypted.

i've flashed the v 5.1 got greeted by a "Encrypting" Wait while your phone is being encrypted. Time remaining 01:50 Screen.
Guess that does not work on PureFusion OS ROM / HTC 10
Edit: Okay... this does NOT work when swapping Internal with Secondaries ROM in Multirom, but for a new install it does...

Sorry I hadn't tested with all ROMs, not even sure Pure Fusion was even available when I had my HTC 10.
Stick to the script, it's quick, easy and works, you can try a zip but unless someone has gone before you you're potentially walking into a bad time.
Jep.... the zip doesn't seem to work no matter what. Not even on Stock ROM. Prolly not compatible with HTC10.
These 2 Command lines though do work perfectly fine on PureFusion OS... simply install ROM, install SU, enter 2 lines. Done.

That's absolutely fine. Because this thread isn't about the zip..I have nothing to do with that, so in regards to the zip you flash it at your own risk.

Though i do agree with him that having a .zip and not needing a Computer every time would be pretty usefull.
Does anyone know how to create TWRP flashable zips that includes only this 2 commands?
Hello I tied this for RR rom but I got this message in the cmd, am i doing something wrong?
edit i found my fault I had to adb shell
I know it's been about a year, since somebody posted, but: if anbyone else like me stumbles across this thread, have a look at: https://www.didgeridoohan.com/magisk/MagiskInstallationIssues
It gives you even more information how to enable or disable encryption or dm-verity while usinf magisk.
Btw. you can use the terminal in twrp also, see link.
Can I use the built-in twrp terminal for echo-ing rather than using adb shell ?

Ofcourse, cause echo command is available everywhere.just make sure you install the magisk/supersu first before running the command

If I format /data, then the encryption is gone and LOS can be installed where backup with TWRP work?

Hey guys,
I think I'm a little bit in trouble: I just got a OP3 and wanted to root it as I'm used to it from the OPO.
But there were problems because of Force Encyption... After a few trys and flashs, I flashed Stock OOS (
OnePlus3Oxygen_16_OTA_013_all_1608061823_765c081a5c8e4dad.zip
) from TWRP and after rebooting...
THE SCREEN IS YELLOW AND FULL OF PIXELS (like an olt TV).
You can feel it works from vibrations but you can't see what's going on... I tried this for unbricking but no success.
I think my phone's display drivers might be broken but idk.
Does anyone maybe know what to do here?

Which TWRP are you using? Try using the latest from eng.stk's (Blue Spark).
If you want MM, the more stable and improved version is 3.2.8. What you downloaded is 3.2.4. So, download 3.2.8 and boot into recovery, wipe system, dalvik cache, cache and data including internal storage (you will lose all your files including photos, videos etc). Boot the phone into the bootloader mode and push the ROM to the phone and flash it from recovery or flash the ROM from PC using adb commands. Flash TWRP again and boot into recovery and if ok, boot into system. If everything is ok, you can flash SuperSU/Magisk, if you need root. A couple of wipes of both the caches in between may also be done.
If this doesn't sort out the issue, use Method 2 from the Mega Unbrick Guide in XDA and follow every instruction scrupulously, especially relating to drivers.
If even this fails, it is a hardware issue.
EDIT: I see that Puddi Puddin beat me to it.

First I flashed newest TWRP and Paranoid Android but it wasn't as good as expected and so I flashed back to OOS (_008 I think) and everything worked but when I wanted to flash Magisk (because SafetyNet) via TWRP I couldn't because the phone wanted a pattern to unlock encryption.
I read that it would be the same as I used to unlock my phone (btw the only 1 I use) but it didn't work...
Before I found a guide with the right order to remove the encryption I tried different ways by myself (that's because I flashed a few times) (Toolkit, "Fastboot format userdata", TWRP format) but nothing removed it.
Then I wanted to follow that guide but meanwhile there was no OS at all and img Install via fastboot didn't work but I managed to get the newest stable OOS (_16 I think) on the phone, installed it with TWRP aaaaaand...

I can give it a try later (and in the future when everything works again) but I do not think (at least I can't imagine) that the problem I have comes from recovery.
I know the reason!
I found other people who also had a static screen and they said they could fix it by pressing the screen back on its contacts...
I did so and it worked!... A bit... For a few minutes...
So the static definitely wasn't the result of rooting and stuff but the repair company's fault.
I hope they accept their mistake and fix it. Thx for everyone here trying to hel me!
P.S.

[after Mega Unbrick Method 2 finally worked (I put the stock zip in the tool's folder)]
This morning I restarted the phone just because and I could see what was going on on the phone - but the display was still crazy with yellow tint and colorful stripes etc.). After setup it asked me to download & install newest stock rom; I did and after reboot everything was fine again....
Don't know what happened here but it seems to work again.
Figured we should have a thread set up for discussion, has anyone started work on this? Maybe we should get a hangouts group started.
When does the development starts?
I don't know the procedure of ROM development. Are devs waiting for the oreo update from HTC?
Some devs already work on Oreo aosp, but it's not that easy to get it working on the 10 so that everything works. Maybe even stock will be earlier here than custom Roms like aosp and los

You can't start a "Dev thread" if you aren't a dev on the project; you can only start a "Nag thread".
Sorry for unqualified question. I know the new site but I don't know where to find dev threads. If you can help me I'll be glad.
My question is why do some older phones have LOS 15.0 and we don't yet. You'd assume the newer phones get priority. My old HTC M8 has a fully functional LOS 15.

That device still has an active developer working on it. crpalmer, the user who brought 14.X to HTC 10 seems to have moved on to newer devices.
hope it will have LOS15.1
Even though Raymon left development does this mean there are no los 15 for us?
As already stated by fagyi, once he solves all bugs on aosip 8.1 he will build los.
15.1 Running flawless albeit hot sometimes!
Ladies and Gentleman,
I have been lately at the lack of instruction that some of the devs have in their OP in regards to the kernel challenges with running back and forth between nougat and oreo. All I want for my recently required and gently used HTC 10 was a simple and pure rom that I can theme and run unhindered of bloat and unneccesary tweaks without having to gut the rom with titanium backup. With that said, in my constant frustration over the past two weeks I have been able to get Lineage os 15.1 running flawlessly on my device as of yesterday with everything working including the camera and tethering. The speaker volume is a bit low, but I can live with that.
To run this as with the other 8.0 rom you have to be on nougat kernel. IF you are already running Oreo- stock or otherwise, you will have to downgrade your kernel being s-off. Generally I don't pay for sunshine but since i got a great deal on this used phone i coughed up the $25 bucks to fix my phone after deciding I wanted to run modified oreo without having to read 1100 pages of posts.
Personally I have Sprint as a provider so I used a combination of OMJs kernel flashing instructions
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-htc-10/development/ruu-sprint-htc-10-1-24-651-3-t3379257
along with this post to downgrade effectively:

Now I tested this rom by flashing multiple times and I could not get any version of gapps to work but then i discovered a work around that will help. But before I get there let me explain everything I did. Some steps may be unnecessary depending on where you are coming from but i think nougat kernel is a must. I did not ruu after kernel flash.
1. Flash kernel using adb.
2. Boot straight into bootloader then Wipe and then fix persist per wonders never ceases post.
I had issues with going back to nougat kernel and had to type these instructions in the twrp terminal to get my persist back:
To fix : failed to mount '/persist' (invalid argument)
Type this in twrp terminal:
make_ext4fs /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist
MAKE SURE YOU DO CLEAN WIPE all internal and format data. Fix ext4 after.
3. Resend twrp from adb.
4. Flash lineage Rom
5. Flash Magisk
6. Boot to Rom and install from Magisk G-apps systemless framework
This will not show up as being installed in magisk anymore after you install gapps. Gapps overwrites it somehow. But if you try to install gapps by itself, it will fail and crash when you boot to the rom.
7. Reboot to twrp and flash nano gapps.
8. clear cache, format data
9. profit!
Finger print scanner, Camera and everything is working. have not found any issues yet. Since I am kinda excited at getting back to LOS because i couldn't get it for my Bolt, i wanted to share with everyone else that fagyi's work is payoff.

I'm kinda confused by what you said. Is that ROM for Oreo firmware or Nougat?

Maybe was wrong. Maybe was Oreo firmware. Switched to this and had to go the other one. Sometimes I just go into a flashing rage and can't rememember what happened after.

I'm using that ROM build of 15.1 on my HTC 10 (Android 8.1), and it works pretty good actually. besides a few minor issues.
Unlocked Bootloader from HTCDev, Running latest TWRP Recovery, S-On (for me at least was not needed to turn this off), Latest Magisk (which seems to pass the Safetynet check) / Busybox.
I changed the Kernel afterwards to "kernel_htc_pme_aosp_tabp0le_eas_4.02-O" (from tabp0le) because it has the "performance" cpu governor that i can enable using Kernel Adiutor.
The bugs i encountered so far :
- Camera apps open slowly, except for "Open Camera" , not a big issue.
- HTC Sense Launcher doesn't seem to work, just get the famous (app has stopped) message, but maybe it's a conflict with my GAPPS installation
- Only 1 speaker works, HTC10 has Boomsound with 2 speakers on stock rom, 1 is a treble speaker, the other one is kinda like a small subwoofer for the low frequencies.
Is there any soundmod that would enable both speakers again?
There is not any mod to do that. But the dev of this ROM is working on getting the bottom speaker working.
I just saw that a new build-version is released for HTC10.

Okay so after getting tired of safetynet and other issues Google has put on us I'm wanting to switch to magiskSU but Everytime I tried I bootloop and have to clean flash my rom. This is what I'm doing
1. Flashed unSU in twrp
2.flashed stock boot.img
3. Flashed the magisk.zip
4.got an error saying it failed to install magisk.zip
But whenever I try to reboot to system (I've tried reinstalling SuperSU and without reinstalling as well) I got a bootloop Everytime can someone instruct me or tell me what I'm doing wrong?

In Short. Currently for our device to have magisk, you need to use the boot image that @joemossjr and @Uzephi developed with Magisk support. Then install the magisk app. No zip install.
Refer to Joe's thread for the boot image at this link
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/how-to/how-to-root-moto-z2-force-t-mobile-t3672933
I would have went into detail and used a short link, but my head is currently throbbing so this is easier lol.
Edit: then realized your replied a minute before I Uzephi haha.

I would suggest updating to November. I have a rooted magisk image, but you need to flash the decryption zip to get it to boot. If you update to November, I am going to release a flash-all type zip sometime today (after I fiddle with getting 4.4.107 upstream done) and working on a Google Pixel 2 skinned ROM for us here shortly with oem bloat completely removed

But in general, what Uzephi said, as this is his project. I'll let him go ahead and take over. Goodluck

You using stock kernel? To get crypto changes in 4.4.101-103 added, it breaks encryption on our phones and will cause a boot loop due to Motorola's dirty code. Hopefully when Oreo ROM drops (since Google is kinda telling oems to stay upstreamed) it will fix those issues in our stock ROMs.

Hard to say. Those of us that have tried hard bricked the device. Not readable via USB and wouldn't boot anything after the flash.

To build off what Uzephi said. It's not that rom's wont be capable. It's just working with new things that are being implemented and changed until something starts going right. The jump to Nougat changed a lot of things with security and the switch to Oreo is changing even more that Google is wanting to push for android that inadvertently also affect security and compatibility.
This is speculation, but since they introduced Kotlin, I feel like they are trying to alter everything over the long run to become more streamline and compatible around it. Especially given they can control the progress of the script language to help them better. Which will really show true or false come mid next year.
We are lucky that Motorola sticks to a super close to stock experience because it's one less issue to deal with when playing with the new code and functions to try to get things to work. I'm really optimistic on this stuff because I like doing things that people think can't be done. So I believe that there will for sure be more customization and capabilities as we figure things out. Just takes time and effort. We worked for months and months on the S8 where people said impossible, and ended up getting it. So i have faith on this.

Motorola already admitted the Z series will not be a part of Project treble meaning we need to try different vendor files to see if builds work. Sadly the ones used for the Z1 and wahoo mixed together cause the phone to go haywire and brick itself.

And I understand that this means lack of simplicity in developing custom rom's. But it doesn't mean incapability. From what I understand as well, that treble can be implemented at a later date even though it will not be included with the initial Oreo update. You are working on a pixel rom conversion if I am correct right? Because I might have an idea...
But treble is still def exciting to think about being able to have one rom work on many different phones without modification. I honestly haven't divulged too far into it, but what are the odds of tearing apart the code and possible making support for it ourselves? I'm all for ridiculously long spans of working towards absurd goals hah

Unless Motorola can repartition the phone, Treble won't come out, it needs a vendor partition. I can say at least on my Sprint phone the OEM block is about 1.5 GB when there is only about 200 MB of data on it, so they can splice that to save user data. Only other way is to repartition /system or /userdata for the space needed for the new partition.
Yes, I am doing a pixel conversion ROM. Tried just booting the pixel /system and it didn't work. I am taking assets from the Tamien and putting them into our November update using SuperR.

I know there are few devs out there working on making it work on non treble phones. Repartitioning and adding a vendor partiion wouldn't be the issue with making it work. Rather trying to get the vendor source for drivers to add to it, and if they need to be reworked to add support. I've been off for a few months with health issues so I'm still getting back into things with oreo, but that seems to be the biggest issue at the moment that I could find.
When my health is back to 100 percent within a couple weeks I will dive into work with you and aid in any way possible for this. To me, trying to get driver source and make it work sounds fun. but we are far off topic now for this post so I'll leave this here haha.
I've got DU 12.2 OFFICIAL installed on my phone now and am having some problems, Any gapps i try to install fails, i can receive calls but cant make any using data or wifi, my memory card works fine in the phone but doesn't show up on the computer, when i hook my phone up to the computer i cant get into download/fastboot mode, shows no devices on the devices command. i have to boot into fastboot by powering off the phone and doing the volume down + power then everything works fine. Any ideas what I may have done wrong or what the problem might be?? I was on stock Oreo 8.0 rooted w/twerp installed, done a full wipe a couple times before i flashed just to be safe..
Gapps are preinstalled. Do not flash any. I haven't had any calling issues with Sprint. Memory card shows up with adb disabled for windows and enabled for Linux. Adb reboot-bootloader works for me on both windows 7 and Linux. APM works as well from developer options (Advanced Power Menu).
Just my experiences running DU for the past two months

I can give you my experience with DU. I ran the RC version which had recently had the issue with sdcard fixed. Like Uzephi said, no need for gapps, they're already baked in. As for adb/fastboot, you just need to reinstall the drivers, and manually add the moto adb driver when your device is in charge only mode. Then you should be able to run those commands just like always. I can elaborate more on that if you need. As far as flashing, I followed the flashing instructions for the AOSiP rom and flashed the 27.1 prep zip as well. Though the prep zip might be unnecessary if you have oreo on both slots. Uzephi would know better than I as far as that goes. I know the RCs and weeklies are signed differently, so no dirty flashing between the two. It might be better to flash the prep zip to have a clean slate on both slots.
Anyway, that was my experience. Hope that answers some of your questions.

I use RC since I live on the wild side (I have tried to hard brick this phone so many times, only thing I won't try is locking BL since that's a stupid way to hard brick.) Airwalk says it perfectly. If you have Oreo on both slots, no need for the prep zip. I flash twrp.zip after booting into twrp, reboot recovery, flash rom, flash twrp again, reboot recovery, flash my kernel, flash magisk, reboot bootloader, fastboot -w, then boot to system.
Obviously I take more steps than needed. That's to flash my kernel, root and twrp after the flash before booting which isn't advised (wild child over here), you should fully boot first, then do the flashing of root, kernel, twrp, etc.

Well guys I followed the the flashing instructions for the install guide from the AOSiP ROM to the "T" going from stock 27.1 Oreo 4 different times today to no avail, I came up with the same outcome as before. No calling, mem card not showing up on computer, having to manually boot into fastboot and so on. I downloaded Los 15.1 and followed the same procedure as with DU and it works like a charm. I just hope now it keeps getting updates Thanks again for your help and suggestions guys

Try the RC from 0509. I have been running it since the 9th with no issues.
I've tried to follow the instructions here (https://plus.google.com/communities...5/stream/2a745c1e-aae6-4b50-93dd-14417258d7ce).
I did a huge mistake of thinking that flashing for slot a and slot b was the same of step (2/2) I saw in the screen.
I was coming from Stock Nougat (7.1.1) and, most probably, I finished having oreo in one slot and nougat in the other.
I reflashed TWRP as per instructions.
When I tried to reboot, phone got dead (no charge, no turning on, and no bootloader...). This scared me totally. I unbrick some Asus, Google and Samsung before. But this time it was too premature and having no bootloader is unbelievable.
Will the AOSiP guide will work now for me? I'm with Oreo (don't know how to check if on both slots...), but if a new phone.
Does anybody know why we can't have a DU thread here in xda?

They tell you need to flash to both slots. Here on xda, devs say we need to flash ROM just to one slot. Of course, I'm not sure this is the problem. Just trying to imagine myself at DU.
By the way, are there any settings (customization) present in DU that AOSIP does not have?

A few things, yes. Mainly the dirty tweaks in settings
Didn't really care for the DU. Although it does have working 4g on sprint(much props there). I just didn't personally like the "feel" of it. I'm rockin the unofficial LOS 15.1 right now and its pretty lovely. I'm limited to ROMs b/c of sprint but so far LOS kicks ass.
First, let me say I have been using rooted phones with twrp for several years and never had the slightest problem with them, so I generally know what I am doing, but the Mi A2 Lite is just a disaster area for me, not with Magisk, that works fine, but twrp seems impossible for me to install on 10.0.3.0 without soft bricking ( I had twrp installed on 10.0.2.0 and 10.0.1.0 so I am not unfamiliar with the method, but on 10.0.3.0 - no way). I have done so many factory resets now I have my own parking space at the factory! (That is humour btw).
So I wondered if a different approach to the problem might work. I am not a coder or phone guru, so what I propose might be nonsense, if it is I am sure somebody will tell me.
We are all used to the concept of the 'patched_boot.img' created by Magisk and if you don't want to produce your own version the forum usually has a link to it. Magisk though is not the problem, twrp is, so what I am proposing is that somebody provides a link to a 'double_patched_boot.img' ie a flashable boot image that contains both twrp and magisk and that can directly replace the stock boot via fastboot.
Apparently there are some folks that have managed to install both twrp and magisk on 10.0.3.0, so if one of them could extract the 'double_patched_boot.img' from their phone it might help out a lot. How do you achieve that? Well there is probably more than one way, but the way that I would choose (if I could manage to install them both in the first place) is to boot into twrp, connect to pc, take a miflash backup of the phone and then unzip it with the following command (this is a linux command I am sure someone can provide a windows equivalent):
Code:
tar -xzf ********.tgz
where ********.tgz is the name of your miflash backup.
Then extract the boot.img from the resulting folder, rename it to something like 'double_patched_boot_10.0.3.0.img' and provide a link to it on the forum. Then some brave soul could try it out (probably not me as I am sick of doing factory resets and don't have any backups because I don't have any recovery to make them from).
OTOH this might just not be practical, I don't know enough to be sure.
i was having similar issues. replaced my mi a2 lite and followed the guide for the aosp 109 gsi here in the forum replacing the fstab and one other file i forgot they name but it's instructed. i have twrp zero the fixed one, magisk, and I'm running the RR PIE ROM with zero issues and I've been back and forth in and out of recovery no problem. I'm pretty sure it will work for you too.

Interesting. I have certainly thought of jumping ship to a custom rom, but I would like to wait a little before I do so, ideally until someone fires up a Lineage rom for the A2 Lite. But if things continue as badly as they have done so far with stock roms then I might well join you on RR.

Nice thread. Tried it as well but no chance 10.0.3.00 + twrp + magisk. And you are right the problem is twrp.

i was having similar issues. replaced my mi a2 lite and followed the guide for the aosp 109 gsi here in the forum replacing the fstab and one other file i forgot they name but it's instructed. i have twrp zero the fixed one, magisk, and I'm running the RR PIE ROM with zero issues and I've been back and forth in and out of recovery no problem. I'm pretty sure it will work for you too.

Does RR Pie have any issues on Mi A2 Lite? Whichever GSI I'd tried, I had lags :/

correct it is not. what happened was.. lol. i thought i was crafty and did some file swapping and made miflash setups that would flash so the stock files as usual , but with gsi's like RR and/or bootleggers for the system image. and it works, up until i flashed from RR to bootleggers with those setups described previously . there is where my genius was flawed. lol. lesson learned

for me, i have not come across anything caused by the GSI. any issues I've faced are purely self inflicted.
I don´t get your problems... Just boot twrp, and install it as described in original thread.
After that flash back aboot from 9.6.11.0 and the message "your system got destroyed" will disappear!

You might not get my problem, but likewise I don't get your solution. Firstly aboot has never been touched during the attempted twrp install so why flash it at all, it has not been changed, and secondly you suggest I flash it with something that is how many versions old 4?, 5?, I'm not sure, when just about every post you ever read stresses that you should not mix old and new partitions at the same time.
I hope you forgive my scepticism, but can you actually suggest the slightest reason why this might work?
Or is it all just voodoo johnny (sorry, couldn't resist that).

Aboot is the bootloader. Since Pie the aboot was modified to check wheather there are modification on your boot.img. So everytime you modify something (like installing twrp), you get the message "your system got destroyed".
9.6.11.0 is the last version of Oreo. Here the bootloader didn´t check boot.img.
That´s why you need to flash 9.6.11.0 - maybe the older verstions will work too. Didn´t check. But I guess only 9.6.11.0 will work becouse it was the latest oreo version and it had to have a bootloader which can boot up pie (to have ota working).
Here you can find the aboot.img I use... and which works without any problem on pie - right now I´m running 10.0.3.0...
Just flash it via fastboot.

OK that makes sense now - thank you for the explanation. I will probably give that a try sometime, but not right now as I have a stable working phone for the first time in ages and I don't want to jeopardise that.
Just one question though. When I had twrp installed on 10.0.2.0, it was fine at doing backups, but on the two occasions I tried to restore with them they failed, by which I don't mean that the restore didn't repair the phone, but that it was impossible to even carry out the restore, it started but did not complete - just ended with 'Restore Failed' message.
Have you tried any restores with twrp installed in the manner you suggest and if so did they work? No point in installing it otherwise.

There seems to be some bugs restoring system and vendor... Some users talked about... I usually only save and restore the data and boot partition and I never had any problems with that. For all other partitions you can use miflash or fastboot...
Yeah all my twrp full backups don't work after a fresh stock installment either, that's very annoying.
The twrp version for daisy is bugged. Backups are not working, the wifi with GSI Roms on pie stock is not working anymore as soon as twrp is installed as well.

Thanks for the replies above. @voodoojohnny
In my case it was the data partition that caused the restore to fail, vendor and system and boot all seemed to go through normally. @cd492
Based on what you say along with my own experiences and those of voovoojohnny, it looks like twrp is more trouble than it is worth at the moment. I think I will make do without it for now and hope for a better version in the future.

Well there is probably more than one way, but the way that I would choose (if I could manage to install them both in the first place) is to boot into twrp, connect to pc, take a miflash backup of the phone and then unzip it with the following command (this is a linux command I am sure someone can provide a windows equivalent):
where ********.tgz is the name of your miflash backup.

THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED ON GSI'S YET
I'm currently in the process of RR with TWRP but having extreme Encryption errors
Grab these two files (Big Thanks to Zerovoid, Seryioo, and mac12m99)
Fixed SDCard Support TWRP Image File (Put this on your SDCard and Computer)-
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...unofficial-twrp-daisy-mount-sd-fixed-t3889390
Fixed SDCard Support TWRP Installer Zip (Put this on your SDCard)-
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603893418
But I got TWRP on 10.0.3.0 with magisk, and Justic Kernel.
THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE I'M DEFINITELY NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST DATA
Start with the phone being on with USB Debugging enabled correctly
Type adb reboot bootloader
So flash the 10.0.3.0 ROM through MiFlash using the flash_all.bat, this process has to be done so backup your data before erasing.
After it is done flashing it restarts, go ahead and hold power and volume down right back to the Bootloader
Type: fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-0-daisy_zero.img
It would boot into TWRP, if you see something about decryption hit cancel this may mean you haven't followed directions so far
Tap install and find your SD Card, find the fixed-twrp-installer-daisy.zip where ever you put it on your SD Card and install it, this process takes a few minutes when finished DO NOT HIT REBOOT SYSTEM!
Hit the home button back to TWRP home screen and tap reboot >>> bootloader
Download this to your computer - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603884024
Type: fastboot flash aboot aboot_9.6.4.img
Then type: fastboot reboot
Afterwards your phone shall boot up to Android if it does hold power and volume up and release power and keep hold volume up when the screen turns back on to go-to recovery, if TWRP boots up you have successfully completed the task.
Now flash Magisk zip (optional)
Hopefully this helped kind of my first tutorial, this was my process.

Yes I didn't see that post but understand I didn't give you links to the official TWRP, I gave you the unofficial fixed TWRP which actually features SD Card Support and trust me it works completely fine I haven't had a problem yet. This took me hours upon hours to figure out what I was doing wrong.
The only specific reason you are not successfully getting TWRP is because you didn't flash the aboot.img after installing the zip.
I hope this helps you in the future!
thanks InfinityXDA for the tutorial, you should create a post just for it~
