Oh..
So there can be two reasons:
Hardware problem.[Damaged Volume button]
Phone is rooted.[Wrong twrp version can cause problem]
Press power+ volume up button from the blank Android screen with the logo
You will enter stock recovery menu
From there wipe cache
And press the reboot option
I had a similar issue. review these:

don't know how they named that... Is it fastboot?
As I said there, it's like I always start up the phone holding Power + Volume down. It apears a screen where you choose to start or recovery mode, etc...
So, you go to the minimal fastboot adb and write "fastboot oem fb_mode_clear" then press Enter?

You literally do what you just said in the previous post. While your device is in fastboot mode (power+voldown) you connect to your computer and start the fastboot program with a command: fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
That's it...

So I've unlocked my phone and flashed the newest kernel with cwm recovery from doomlord. like described in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620794
I'm only able to enter recovery mode during the first boot right after the flashing of the kernel via fastboot. only that time the led will turn pink.
after that, the volume up + power button method does not work for me nor will the led turn pink again during boot.
Via adb it also dosn't work because my device is not recognized. Software methods like "restart in recovery mode" in "rom manager" also do not work.
beside that, i have no write access to the system partition. making root (wich is working) useless for me.
so what am i doing wrong?

Hello. In order to test a custom recovery for LG K420n I have to enter fastboot mode and then use the "fastboot oem unlock" command to unlock bootloader. The problem is I cannot enter fastboot mode. I tried all the possible commands and button combinations (http://www.hardreset.info/devices/lg/lg-k10-lte/fastboot-mode/). Anyone can help?

the trick is to completely power down your device, then Hold down the volume up button (or down perhaps. i don't remember exactly) and then plug in the usb cable at the same time.. I figured it out when i was trying to root my device a few months ago and completely messed it up before using the lg pc bridge to recover it again

No. Locked bootloader doesn't screw you. It's able to boot into bootloader/fastboot mode even if it's been locked.
-power on device presing (vol- & power) until logo image appear, release and press again power key by the second
-format device screen apper.. chose : format yes , confirm
-just appear android image formating.. press the 3 key alternatively
-then enter to stock recovery ; and u can chose fastboot or sideloader mode
* i dont know the exactly combination key press. but u must try a couple intents..

It might be easy in MTK but not in Qualcomm lol. We even tried "adb reboot recovery". It just shows a dead android symbol. But even randomly pressing those buttons doesn't allow us to go into recovery. MTK users have a upper hand lol.

Hi!
I have a LGK10 420DS (m216) MSM8916 Indian version I am unable to boot into bootloader or recovery by using adb / fastboot or by volume and power kay, as you are aware LG is not supporting any software update. I want to flash CustomROM and trying to unlock bootloader with different method but unable to enter in recovery, plz. some one can help out.
volume - whilst pluging usb into computer = fastboot mode
volume + whilst plugging = download mode
this works in new models, tested in a lg aristo 2
the volume buttons on my device don't work, and my android is on 8.0.0, I am wanting to upgrade to 9.0.5, but the device will not let me update with the bootloader unlocked, so I wonder if there is any way to do this without having to use the volume buttons, thanks in advance

I'm having the same issue today, try this. I will be performing the same thing today and will update you on how I do.
EDIT: Didn't see that you said your volume doesn't work. Whoops. There might be a way to reboot into ADB recovery. Try putting your device into Developer Mode, turn on Advanced Reboot, and when you hold down the power, press "Reboot" and then "Bootloader". Then just use ADB.

Go and turn on Advanced restart, click bootloader once holding the power button when the device is on then proceed to go to fastboot and type in the command
"fastboot oem lock"
then:
"fastboot erase userdata"
You will lose all your data (I think).

Try power+vol- to get to recovery.... Other than that keep trying different button combinations... What happens when you hold both vol buttons and power button for more than ten seconds? To completely shut phone off hold vol up and power button. Otherwise I have heard some say let the phone battery run down battery until phone shuts off. Then try the buttons again. Only just both vol buttons no power and phone not plugged in. Start the MSM tool it will say waiting on device, then with phone off, hold both vol buttons down wait 10 seconds then connect phone to PC.

Extract the zip, should see a payload.bin and change it to payload.img. then fastboot flash payload.img that will flash it to the phone... Then fastboot boot, that should reboot into setup screen on phone. If it doesn't, the last step would be to change the active slot and reboot again in fastboot mode...
Finally, from fastboot mode, fastboot twrp img and in twrp tap on reboot and boot to EDL mode with MSM tool "started" and that will start the process... If the above procedure fails! This is the way I recover from a crashed phone!
