Start by installing it on a phone or tablet with Google Play services. Then use a free app like Apps2Fire to install it from that device to your stick. Not sure if it will keep the Pro features or not. But let us know. If it doesn't then there might be other methods to try like installing the PlayStore on the FTVS1 if rooted & others. But try that simple sideloading option first.

hi all,
im in the process of setting up my new aftv (UK no root)
im working my way through the guides to figure out how to sideload appss.
my questions are, which version of apk file do i download rom spmc website. launcher or non launcher? will launcher allow me to load from start even though im not rooted?
also, how do i get google play store onto aftv, would that allow me to download apps such as bt sport or are they all a no go for non rooted devices. just trying to figure out how much i can do with this nice little box

1 Non launcher is your only choice without root
2 no google play store without root
If the apps that you want to sideload from google play is a free app, then it can be done without root using APK Downloader. But that doesn't mean that they will actually work properly on the Ftv.
Thankyou thats exactky the info i was after.
Can i just ask what everyones uses to sideload apps. The original guide was a bit over tge top and then noticed aftv utility and adb fire.
I will also need sonething to move over zip files to allow install of navi x
Is there any way to download apk directly from amazon app store on computer? like these sites that do that for play store?

I'd asked the same thing months ago. I've yet to find a direct method. What I've done was to install things to my phone or tablet, then sideload them. Or if you are just wanting to backup the apk, there are many backup apps out there.

I wanted that to try sideloading app's from Amazon App store that are marked as non compatible with Fire TV, but few of then should work fine..
Maybe some apps that require Google Account does not require in the Amazon App Store (not tested)

The best way to do that is to download them to a compatible device then sideload them. f you are rooted, you can install the Google Play Store too and access many more apps.

An Alternative method is to install them on a compatible device from the Play Store, and then extract them with an apk extractor, also from the Play Store.
It's still a mystery (to me) why Amazon hasn't figured out what's compatible with the fire and what's not.
Yeah, but the main problem is that some apps require google account (google services must be installed) and some of then does not require that in the amazon app version..
My device version can't be rooted... i got it with an rooteable version, then i turned it on (without internet) and after reading few tutorials in how to root it, after few hours it started updating automatically and i was not able to cancel it (IT WAS WITHOUT INTERNET) ¬¬

Then your only choice is to use a different device to install them on from the Amazon Appstore, then sideload them to the FTV. It's easy to do. There are several apps that will sideload an installed app on one device directly to the FTV.

Correct. So I guess I've been lucky. I'm not rooted and so far I've been able to install everything I've wanted to install. Except, of course, the Play Store itself. Which IMO, is only an inconvenience.
What is it you want to install? What do you want your FTV to do that it doesn't?
I install the app on my tablet, and then use AGK to sideload to my FireTV stick. My tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, running ICS 4.0.4, and won't run Kodi for example (it's not a Neon device). This method is how I was able to get Kodi installed on the Fire stick. Of course the problem is getting the app installed on the tablet if it's listed as non-compatable by Anazon. As for making backups of apps on my tablet, I use ES Task Manager. Free and works like a charm.
asphalt 8 amazon apk
I have a similar problem. I have a fire hd 6 and no other amazon device. I would like asphalt 8 on it but it says it is incompatible. I cant believe this quad-core tablet couldn't handle asphalt when my moms old single core acer can. If I get the apk from my nexus 7 (also shows as incompatible with asphalt in amazon store) I get a no license error. I bought the game on the amazon site so if anybody has the apk I would appreciate it. Thanks
I just released an extension for Chrome for downloading APK files from Amazon Appstore directly on your PC. You can check this thread for more information
Does anyone have gapps working on the Fire TV 2? I know the Playstore doesn't work on non-rooted Fire TV but I have some apps that require the Playstore to run. If someone has it working, which version of gapps are you using?
thanks,
searched for answer but didn't find anything regarding Fire TV 2
From what I've tried doing was install Xposed, but it won't update, and then install a module for Xposed which won't work unless you update Xposed.

I still need to test it some more, but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to install full gapps with recovery. And xposed.

Once I release recovery, I'm sure someone will write a guide to install gapps. I can confirm that google play services seem to function and the play store at least launches. I didn't have a keyboard plugged in, so I couldn't log in, but I'm sure it works. The one tricky part is actually starting the Play Store. It doesn't show up in the regular Amazon menu and going to the "Installed Apps" list in the settings wouldn't let me launch it. Had to use FireStarter and enable system apps for it to show up.

ok cool.. so I then dont worry about updating xposed and look for firestarter and see if it launches then from the installed apps menu, What about using a self powered usb hub plugged in and connect a usb mouse and keyboard. Would that do the trick? I would try now but off to work soon.
Installed latest version of firestarter and tried to launch from there. Same thing.. goes to the play store and i see name in top left corner and in center of
screen no connection / retry. .. should i uninstall the playstore and services, accounts, and reinstall? You said enable system apps in firestarter also.. I dont seem to see that.
Play store won't be able to connect until we can use the HDXposed module which will patch the content provider and download manager that blocks the play store (hopefully this still works on the FTV2).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618158
This requires Xposed working and to install Xposed we need the recovery rbox is working on. Hopefully we can try this out soon. Sideloaded apps should be able to authenticate with the play service even without HDXposed..
Hi All,
I have a requirement which I have not been able to figure out. I have the Firetv Generation 2 with the latest OS. I also have the NVidia Shield and the Infomir's Stalker App purchased there. When I move the Extracted APK to the firetv, it installs ok but then starts off and brings a popup that the license file of google play is missing.
Is there a way I can bring the license file the application is looking for on the firetv or
can I install google play and install it through that?
There is no Firetv version of the application. Any help is much appreciated.

Post a link to the file and I'll see if I can strip the gplay from it.
Edit: never mind, I found the app and realized its a licence issue. Won't touch it here. Good luck.

Alternatively, Is there a way to root the box and or install Google Play and get it through that? I saw a guide to install Android TV Fully but that I believe requires Root. The Last time I rooted my firetv years ago, I bricked it and I have two bricked firetv's in the closet. Except for this app, I don't have any need to root.
You can install google play services to get apps that require it to run, but you can't sign in to get past the licence check. Not without root.

The last rootable firmware for FTV 2 was 5.2.1.1.

hi. I've just sent you a PM.
Hello! Can anyone find a solution to install Play Store on FireStick 4K? I manage to install Google Play Store and Google Play services, but i can't sign in. I installed Google Account Manager 7.1.2 , but this is not a solution. Any solution?
A very simple solution to move files on FireStick 4k is to install Es File Explorer, and after that use Total Commander to connect from your PC to FireStick via View On PC option from Es File Explorer (FTP connect).
Gapps goes well beyond installing an APK... You have to be rooted, install Xposed, among other things.

I'd still like that poster to elaborate for the folks out there that would like native google play support, and besides I told you about Aurora, so I'm well aware of it, it's not perfect it has its own issues.
Play Store won't work on Fire TV
It simply does not work. You might want to use Aptoide, third-party app store instead. Or, you could obtain the APK of Play Store app from the internet and sideload it onto Fire TV.
