Is it possible to install the Google Play Store on a rooted Fire TV 2?
Not at this moment, the rooting process is still in development. Since they did get root on the device i am sure that people will find how to get Google Play Services installed. Sit back and enjoy the ride while the devs work their magic.
Just got mine rooted today. Is Google Play Services working on the FTV2 now?

I was able to successfully install gapps on the FTV2 and I did launch the play store, didn't actually use it. Stay tuned for when I release recovery to be able to install it.

Recovery is installed. Custom Rom r3 is running. Pls everyboby write a FAQ!
Afternoon everyone.
As per the title, is the play store working on the tv stick?
I've got root (with kingo), I've installed the xposed framework. I've "adb install'd" the apk's for acc's manager, play- services, framework, search, play store (all from a firegapps zip file, found in a year old thread). I've installed and activated HDXposed also.
WHere do I go from here, if at all possible?
Ok, so i now have the play store app opening but am getting an error [RH-=01].
I'm presuming this is due to using old apk's.
Any pointers anyone?

Clear cache/data for Google Play Services, Framework and Playstore. Try to open and set up playstore again. also, what version of playstore are you using? I would try to fined a leanback version.

Same error, after clearing cache and data.
The apk's came from the firegapps zip, in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/themes-apps/how-to-install-gapps-root-t2960705
I've got an amlogic s812 clone box that I have root access to. I'll try scouring that box for the same apk's as that'll use a leanback variant.
Ok. I've flashed updates to the services, framework, account manager and the playstore (leanback variant from December. Most recent I could see) and still getting the same error.
i think, we get the Librarys installed to get it work but thos can only work when TWRP is installed. But current, we wait for a release of it, nobody knows if it come or not.
other way is, a Dev write a script what install all files with correct permission included... same as xposed.

Aye, thanks. I'd come accross that site during my rsearching. I'm also comfortable using abd for pushing/shell/installing etc but I didn;t want to be beaten by not getting play-store to work. ALthough, this does cover the majority of the apps that'd be needed.
Hi All,
I have a requirement which I have not been able to figure out. I have the Firetv Generation 2 with the latest OS. I also have the NVidia Shield and the Infomir's Stalker App purchased there. When I move the Extracted APK to the firetv, it installs ok but then starts off and brings a popup that the license file of google play is missing.
Is there a way I can bring the license file the application is looking for on the firetv or
can I install google play and install it through that?
There is no Firetv version of the application. Any help is much appreciated.

Would appreciate if anyone can help with this.
Post a link to the file and I'll see if I can strip the gplay from it.
Edit: never mind, I found the app and realized its a licence issue. Won't touch it here. Good luck.

Alternatively, Is there a way to root the box and or install Google Play and get it through that? I saw a guide to install Android TV Fully but that I believe requires Root. The Last time I rooted my firetv years ago, I bricked it and I have two bricked firetv's in the closet. Except for this app, I don't have any need to root.
You can install google play services to get apps that require it to run, but you can't sign in to get past the licence check. Not without root.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/guide-installing-google-play-service-t3672181
The last rootable firmware for FTV 2 was 5.2.1.1.

hi. I've just sent you a PM.
I would like to install Google play services on my Amazon Fire TV 2 rooted with Rbox Boot Menu Twrp.
I have tried following older guides but they appear to not work on newer firmware or are just oudated and/or plain unhelpful
(Important) If possible I would like to use the leanback (Android TV) version of google play for ease of use with a remote.
Please don't link me to older guides, Chances are I've already tried them.

You can install Google apps on your Fire TV using OpenGapps package from https://opengapps.org, select tvstock or pico and flash it to TWRP.

When I used OpenGapps it refused to install insisting that there wasn't enough system storage on the device (I know there is because I installed the apps manually but they didn't work) I was hoping that someone could send a link to the required files for installing Google Play *Leanback Manually

You can't just flash it. You can likely follow some of the other threads that work, but being a locked device (sloan is rooted not unlocked) you risk bricking your device and having to open it and short it (blah blah blah). Really though, what are you looking to do with play services? micro-g is a nice work around, and the play store is garbage for firetv (use fdroid or what ever works for you). What are you looking to do with play services?
There are plenty of threads that give details on how to install, xposed is usually required.

I already have TWRP and Rbox boot menu installed, I already have Xposed. I'm looking to use the google play services because Some apps refuse to work without google play (Functional, a non-functional version won't work) along with that I own Movies and music on Google Play (Yes I know, it's laughable) .The reason I'm wanting to use the leanback versions is because of remote support since I don't have a spare mouse and The mouse enabler is excruciatingly slow and painful to use.
The main reason I asked for a Guide is because most Guides on installing google play are either horribly outdated or strait up misinformation like this(deceptive title) or This (Non-functional)
So, I managed to root this beauty 1+9 Pro relatively easily.
I got Magisk installed, and hid all the Apps that needed hiding.
Even Google Pay works.
But I can't for my sanity figure out why Netflix or Android OS 11 is refusing to let me install Netflix.
Everytime I try to install the Netflix App latest APK, extracted from my old working phone ( Razer Phone 2 also rooted), it will just give me the error message " Sorry No Application Available "
Does anyone have a clue what can be done to make Netflix install in a rooted 1+9 Pro ?
Thanks.
BTW i tried several Netflix App version already.
Also I do know the APK works because I used it to install on another Tablet that will not show up Netflix on Google store.

Is Netflix currently installed as a system app? I wasn't able to uninstall that or get it working, so when I was on 11.2.2.2 I managed to fix it by installing a *newer* version of the Netflix apk that I grabbed from apkpure.com, over top of the system app. Then I had the same issue again on 11.2.4.4, and that method didn't work anymore. However, that time it let me uninstall updates to the app and then update in the play store.
I dont know how exactly, but Netflix still detects the rooted device and denies the install from google play, I think based in the unocked boot loader not sure.
I managed to install from apkmirror and is working fine now.
there is a catch though.
They are moving away from simple apk install and using apk bundles, like some sort of tarball with several apks in it, so you will need this apkm installer app for it to install the newer version. to get this installer working you need to disabled MIUI optimizations from dev options. thats all, I got mine working this passed saturday that way
EDIT: never mind with that MIUI option i thought this was a diffirent model, none the less the apkmirror is still worth a shot
I some how managed to force install it via Titanium Backup, but then it gives me another error when I try to run Netflix App.
" This device is not supported by the app "
it's running the latest version Netflix v7.102.0 build 12 35461
You have to install Magisk Canary, once you do so reboot the phone. Wipe Google play stores data and cache.. magisk hide Netflix and the Google Play Services reboot once more. That's how I got mine to work.
Install: liboemcrypto disabler
from Magisk, reboot ....enjoy

Just tried, it did not work unfortunately, it's probably related to that SafetyNet error I have in Magisk.

Yeah, I got the SafetyNet thing fixed.
However still unable to install Netflix.
still getting "App Not Installed" error, when I try to install the APK.
I tried installing the "liboemcrypto disabler " as suggested a few messages back, and also doesn't seem to make any difference.

I just did after reading this.
It's not showing up in Google Play store.
It's just so weird, everything else works, Google Pay (wallet), Pokemon Go, Banking Apps, everything else that usually will complain and refuse to run when Root is detected, are all working fine, except for Netflix.

I'm thinking maybe I'll need to un-root my phone, update Netflix, see if it runs without root, if it works, then try to root again and figure how to go from there.
... what a hassle

I did this and had the same problem while unrooted, so it turned out to be a waste of time. It seems to have an issue with the unlocked bootloader, not just root. At least with root you can hide unlocked status, which is a step in the right direction. Hide root from Netflix, and also hide magisk app itself in magisk settings.
If you're trying to install Netflix over the system app, make sure to first uninstall updates to the system app so it's the oldest possible version. Then make sure whatever version you're installing on top (whether from play store or APK download) is newer than your installed version. Older versions will not install over newer ones.

Update.
Minor good news.
I wiped the phone from recovery mode.
So, the phone is kind of factory mode, I completed the "new" phone setup thing, and the first thing I went to try was Netflix and it worked.
So... it appears to be something to do with Root and/or Magisk being detected.
Update 2
More good news, I rooted it again, installed Magisk and Netflix is still working.
Not sure why it wasn't working before, also not quite sure what was the actual fix.
I don't really consider a full system wipe a "fix" but well that did it for me.

So, I just imported Apps and Data from the old phone again via Google "setup my device" transfer, and now Netflix got disabled again.
I'll try again and skip Google transfer to find out if that helps.
I can always use One+ Switch App to see if that is better.

However it still doesn't show up in Google Play store when I search for Netflix.
