OK, so I dropped my phone and the LCD went out, I hooked the phone up to the laptop and the phone still works fine, even the touch screen works. ( I used My MObiler to see phone screen on the pc).
I bought a new LCD screen off of Ebay and replace it, now, the LCD screen works, but for some reason, the touch screen stopped working.
When I took the LCD apart from the touch screen, there seem to be a layer of grease of some sort between the touch screen and the LCD. I wiped it off with a lens cloth, don't know if that caused any problem.
Also there is a dark film (tinted) glued to the touch screen when looking from the back, what is that for? I looked at replacement touch screen on Ebay but none of them have the tinted film layer. I've search all over the internet for instructions but can't find any.
So my question is, what are the correct procedures for replacing the LCD screen and the touch screen (digitizer) ? Also after I installed the new LCD screen, the screen is very reflective and the glare is really bad, how do I fix that problem?

You should have replaced both the LCD screen and the Digitizer. There are complete kits on ebay as well as instructions/tools to complete the replacement. Did you purchase the digitizer also?

I went ahead and purchased the digitizer by itself after the original stopped working. Hopefully, it will get my phone back to normal. Thanks for your reply!
in the wiki theres disassebly instructions of the device that should help you (but you probably already know that since you've already switched out the LCD)
In my experience, i have never replaced either the digitizer, or the LCD by themselves, i've always bought LCD+Digitizer and replaced them as one. Seems like the Digitizer is usually glued onto the LCD and i never wanted to mess with that.

I should have ordered the kit instead of just the LCD. What lead me to order just the LCD is when I hooked the phone to my pc and confirmedthe digitizer still worked. And since this is the first time ever I disassemble a phone, I assumed the two things were separated.
But my digitizer should come in tomorrow so I'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for the info.
where did you find a guide to take apart the TP2? I just had the unfortuante luck of smashing mine in the car door as I got in....it fell out of my pocket the exact moment i was closing the door....
My screen is shot, but other than that the device appears to work. I can power on, and try to dial after I press the hard key for the phone pad. The touch portion seems to work, but from your luck, I guess I am looking at having to replace both...
anyhow...any advice on guides and how to find the stuff on the ebay would be apperciated.
I still have 18 months of a 2 yr contract....sucks....and it sucks doubly becuase i just took the insurance off last month....grr..

I did not follow those instructions since I did not want to open the back of the phone.
What i did was I tilted up the phone and used a very small screwdriver and unscrewed the two screws from an angle (it worked).
Then I pried the back of the tilting part of the phone all around to reveal the inside. Be careful not to pull too hard on the flat cable since it's still attached to the back (body) of the phone.
The LCD and touch screen are glued together (I didn't know that before). At this point I would remove the tape that is attaching the flat cable to the back of the LCD, and also lift up the clear yellow tape and detach the three connections.
The widest ribbon is from the LCD, the medium one is for the 4 hard buttons in the front, and the little one is for the touch screen.
I would suggest wearing some sort of anti-static wrist strap (I think I fried my touch screen along with the flat ribbon that is attached to the phone while trying to replace the LCD without anti-static wrist strap).
Once the whole tilting part is freed from the phone, I would carefully push the whole screen (digitizer + lcd) out from the frame, again, they are glued to the frame but can be removed fairly easy.
That's it, the install is reversed of removal and hopefully yours will work again.
Like I said, I think I fried my flat ribbon so after replacing the Digitizer (it came in today), the touch screen still doesn't work, so now I'm looking for that part, I'd appreciate a link to it if anybody knows where to get one.
Oh, and for the parts, just do a search on ebay for "touch pro 2 lcd" or touch pro 2 lcd + digitizer"

What tape to use to stick digitizer back to inner bezel/chassis?
Hi - i got as far as trying to replace my Digitizer only to find that the LCD was stuck to it too. So as clever as i am (not) - i tried to remove the LCD off the digitizer - but that just ended up cracking it.
So i'm in the process of ordering a LCD with the digitizer - pre-stuck together (i hope!) - but my question is:
When i removed the digitizer off the front bezel, there was this spongy sort of double sided tape... i assume it was used for a reason and not just any ordinary double sided tape (presumably to allow a bit of leway between the digitizer and the bezel when pressure is applied to the touch screen)...
Any thoughts on what sort of tape this is? - here's some photos of my digitizer and the bezel:

I wish you had asked before you ordered the digitizer + LCD, since I ordered mine separately, and they seem to both working ok. The digitizer does not have to be glued to the LCD. But anyway, I just used plain old Gel superglue to glue the digitizer to the bezel. I used Gel superglue so it won't run into the electronics beneath. Things seems to work just fine now.
One thing to consider when you crack open the whole phone though. Be careful not to loose any part from within the phone, because apparently, I lost something, now my accelerometer doesn't work, and my screen doesn't rotate when you slide out the keyboard. Hope it works out for you!

Thanks for the advice adp9626! Well in summary I think I've just been messing about too much and being stupid really.
In the end, I managed to just remove the top part of the screen without actually having to break into the bottom section of the phone.
I was a bit concerned about the whole sticking of the LCD to the Digitizer part. I actually did purchase them separately, however I was not sure what kind of glue was used to stick them both together - as I recall it was a nightmare to try and remove the LCD off the old Digitizer.
So I returned both separate parts (got a full refund as I didn't use them) - and now I am looking to purchase both parts stuck together.
I'm waiting on the guy on eBay to confirm that they are both stuck together. I'm also thinking of using double sided sticky tape to stick the Digitizer back to the inner bezel...
So that's the final plan! I've been a bit silly in rushing with ordering parts etc. but I just want to be on the safe side now - well - at least with the LCD stuck to the Digitizer part.
I will take your advice on the gel superglue if the double sided sticky tape doesn't prove it's stickyness!

Edit: I wanted to add that they're are slightly used so there will be scratches. The one i received is a little more scratched than my original then again the scratches aren't noticeable when the back light is on and you're getting a working screen.
Just my experience, I had a faulty LCD, digitizer was OK. Bought a replacement LCD off ebay, delivered from China but only cost me £20 inc delivery. Arrived with tools as well (T5, T6, philiips, and pry tool). Followed a couple of disassembly instructions online, took me a while to get all apart but managed it. None of the instructions online go through actually taking the screen out, I thought I'd messed it up as I took the back half of the LCD off and left the front bit on, and I couldnt get it off at first. I ended up using a very sharp scalpel to slide between the LCD and digitizer and got them apart eventually, as I didnt realise that they were glued.
Anyway, I just placed the screen on, no glue as there is a ring of sticky tape around the back of the digitizer which holds the screen in. Connected everything back in the end and its working fine. Only prob is I think I damaged the power/standby button, so be careful when around this area.
Touch Screen not responding after replacement
Recently, I replaced a glass screen on a SGH-M919 Galaxy S4. Previously, during the process of cleaning the glue residues off the LCD screen; I rubbed it with rubbing alcohol and it removed a small streak of the adhesive glue off left side of LCD screen and bottom right corner. After installed the new glass screen, I noticed a few spots of the glass screen wasn't sticking onto the sticky layer. So it looked like it has big air bubble between the glass screen and LCD. And I could see the rubbed off streak on the LCD screen. Everything worked fine with the new glass screen, with the exception of seeing the streak and bottom right corner rubbed off.
A few days ago, I had a table clock fell on top of the phone and broke a piece of glass. Nothing happened to the LCD screen and still functional 100%. So I got a replacement glass screen - the same as the first time replacement. With noticing of the rubbed off streak and corner of the adhesive layer on the LCD screen - I decided to rub off all of the adhesive layer from the LCD. I sprayed some Goof Off liquid on the adhesive layer and left it over night. Next morning I continued scraping off the glue with a small plastic card. Cleaned off all glue residues and examined the LCD screen for any scratches or damage. There was none. Re-installed new glass screen - but now the touch screen does not respond to the touching on the icons. Only the Home, Menu & Back touch button work. I was baffled after this.
Could it be that because I left some the Goof Off liquid on top of the LCD screen over night and it might have leaked to the other side and shorted out something? I saw a few forums that suggested a Factory Reset. I did that - but still didn't work. Please advise on what I need to do to fix this problem.

LCD digitizer replacement.. now black screen
I saw the for replacing the LCD-digitizer of my nexus 4 phone, and followed the steps carefully. After I placed the battery, I checked to see if the phone turns ON and the display is working before I complete the last step of putting the back coverplate. I successfully switched it ON, saw a perfectly working screen, and browsed through my apps. To complete the assembly, I put the back cover by gently pressing the frame along the edges, but suddenly I saw some yellow green lines in the middle of the screen. I switched it off and again switched in ON, but now the entire screen had light with no display.
To fix this, I tried again checking all connections but no luck. What could be the reason for the sudden loss of display when it worked perfectly fine moments ago? Is there a possibility that I damaged the LCD while putting the back cover on the phone?
I am also not sure about one of the ribbon connectors of the digitizer. There are 2 big ones which are prominent and has ports to connect. However, there is a little third one which also has to come through the gap but doesn’t connect anywhere. Has anyone also experienced this while replacing the screen? Any help will be appreciated.

I also cracked mine some time ago. The kits sold on ebay is fine. It includes amoled+gorilla glass, because amoled is so thin that it is impossible to sell it independently. There are several videos on youtube. It is not a hard replacement, I'm sure you can do it yourself. Just disassemble it and after removing mainboard, you remove data bus of the screen, then connect the new screen's data bus. Mine works perfect
I replaced my broken screen but it is not easy. The youtube videos make it look easier than it is. Besides a 2 mm phillips and a pry tool, you will need tweezers, strong reading glasses, something like rubber cement because the screen is really just glued in there, good lighting, and a lot of patience. I have worked on laptops and this is harder.
Once you figure out that the front bezel isn't designed to hold the screen in, it becomes a bit less frustrating but it took me about three hours and lots of scraping of little pieces of broken screen glass out of the front bezel frame. It's back together but I must have gotten the microphone in backwards because it doesn't work, or maybe a wire pulled off the mic. The supplemental menu button in the lower left hand corner does not work either. .
Do yourself a favor and buy a new phone, the AMOLED+Gorilla glass is like 75% of the total cost. Gorilla glass is cheap about $25 but it is extremly hard to replace. at least it is very difficult to remove without inflicting any damage to the phone or the AMOLED. If you go for it. you can use heat to soften the adhesive but be careful that AMOLED is extremly fragile on its own and the touch screen can get easily burned.
After looking on Global Direct, it seems the eBay screen replacement kits don't include everything you need. The phone originally uses die cut adhesive stickers instead of glue to keep the screen in. Screens can be had for $100-$120, less than the phone, but the lower button - mic assembly flex-pcb seems prone to being screwed up 'cause my lower left button and mic won't work now. My screen was pretty well crumbled especially around the lower buttons and perhaps it was just unavoidable that I damaged the lower button mic pcb trying to scrape the glass off.. A new pcb costs around $40 and that is getting up to the price of the phone. Still, being able to successfully disassemble the phone and know how it works could be useful. Some people might be clever enough to upgrade stock parts like putting in a better mic, arctic-silver-epoxying a thin sheet heatsink to the cpu to aid in ocing, etc. The new screen did not break and looks pristine, though, it's just that I f**ked up something else putting it in.

It is very risky to replace the glass only. Doing it this way increases the risk of damaging the AMOLED panel, either by overheating it or scratched/cracked by the broken glass. I've explained it before; if you want to replace the glass only, you'll need to separate the screen assembly from the frame first, then separate the glass from the AMOLED panel. You might end up breaking the panel anyway, so might as well replace the whole thing. But you can give it a go. It should be possible to remove the glass while keeping the AMOLED panel in the frame, because the panel itself is very fragile.

Hi. This is my story about SUCCESSFULLY replacing only the glass of s2.
Background, you can skip this:
Few months ago I broken the glass of my beloved S2 in an accident, but because I had a screen protector the pieces of glass were kept together and the phone was 100% usable, only the image was distorted because of broken glass.
So I searched the available options: replace the whole display for a price of more than 100euro. Buy a defect s2 with good screen, but didn't found any lower than the previous price.
I had a previous experience with an Ipod Touch with the same problem, when I ordered the glass from ebay and went to a local phone repair shop that destroyed the Ipod. It was usable before going to that shop.
So I decided to give it a try and try to change it myself. I'm a programmer with what can be called poor electronic and hardware skills. So if I was able to do it, and you were able to find this post, you can replace it too. But after seeing some videos I had more confidence on my skills than of those repair specialists that were not careful with the other device.
First I found a clip on youtube about why you CAN'T change only the glass on S2. But I found also the above video with a interesting method, but it required a Molybdenum string that I couldn't found at a good price. Actually I believe that the shipment to Romania made the price to high for the string.
After researching I found the SOLUTION: on a page or youtube clip about how to remove the broken glass. But I've lost the link. Anyway, the procedure was simple. I remember that the video was about replacing the glass on a Galaxy S3.
So I ordered the replacement glass and some adhesive (finally not used) from ebay.
After I got the replacement parts, I opened the phone, you can find somewhere online the instructions how to do it.
For removal I used a pack of plastic poker card. It's needed something to not be to hard to scratch the digitizer, but hard enough to remove the broken pieces of glass.
I started removing the pieces around the Home button to get a feel of the process, and proceeded to remove all the pieces of glass and glue. It took around 3 hours to finish it and 48 cards. You need to lift the broken pieces with great attention and patience. It's not a hard job, but it takes time. Maybe with a hot gun is easier to remove, but when I received the replacement I was anxious to start and did not wait to procure one. During the whole process I kept the phone started to be sure that I did not broke the screen. In case of possible breakage or of a bad scratch I thought that I don't need to continue the procedure. Maybe is not recommended to keep it running, but it gave me a positive feedback that everything is ok.
After removing all the pieces of glass and glue I was able to see some fine scratches with a black background. I used some dust removing solution and then I attached the new glass. I only fitted the new glass on the place and I believe there were some glue left on edges that keep it in place because I did not added any other glue and it did not moved until now. With the new glass the scratches from the digitizer are not visible at all. And the phone works as new, the touchscreen was not damaged at all.
So it's completely possible to replace it.
Before fitting the new glass the cleaned touchscreen was like the touchscreen on S4: it was only needed to hoover with a finger at some distance above, but not touching . I remember that the replacement of my glass was before the release of S4 and when I found about this feature I knew that I already had something like this on my S2.
I don't remember having any other difficulties during the replacement except the removal of broken glasses. And I used this phone continuously without problems since.
Only last night the phone stopped charging and I had to replace the charging port, flex ribbon; but it was not related to glass replacement.
I don't remember if it was needed to open the phone for glass replacement because I opened it when it broke to inspect it and I opened it also few time since then for various tasks.
The total price of replacement parts was below 10$, with glass, screen protector and adhesive ordered from ebay. I ordered also a case to protect the edges for future dropping and was a smart investment. The pack of cards I had from poker set, but It shouldn't be so expensive.

if you are not a technician, I suggest you give it to someone REALLY capable of, what do you mean it is not at all easy and the risk of doing damage is very high.
Otherwise follow the advice that was given to you, buy the whole block
Necro thread, but I agree, it is not worth doing so. In order to be done properly, you need to have a very thin wire to separate the two pieces. Not something i would do myself. Much better to replace the whole assembly instead.

i recently got my hands on a galaxy nexus, Although it is working just fine it has a few problems:
the first being, the volume control button seems to have been taken off, i think replacing that with one found on ebay would do the trick.

Secondly the phone does not detect when usb is connected, or it is connected to a charger. HOWEVER it charges when the phone is off, but the screen does not go on. Will changing the usb charging board be the solution ? i am thinking something like this :

The third and final problem with the phone is that the front glass is broken. HOWEVER the touchscreen works just fine and there are no spots on the LCD screen either. Will changing the front glass be easy ? Do any of you have any special tehniques or pictues/videos that can help ?
It is available on ebay. I have read around the internet that peeling it off is difficult and you need a heat gun, I am prepared to take that risk however i do not have any glue to use, could anyone recommend me the type of glue that is used to fix the glass ? it seems to be peeling off when i scratch it with my nail and has a rubbery texture

No idea what kinds and of glue is down there, but there is also huge risk of tearing the screen if you want to separate the screen and glass.
I will recommend you to buy then entire screen though, although you could try doing it first.

By far the hardest part will be replacing the glass. The glass is fused to the digitizer, and the whole thing is glued to the frame. The only replacements I've heard about were the whole assembly, not just the glass.
Check out http://ifixit.com for step by step instructions. I know they have one for the USB port, probably for the others as well.
Yes I agree with what others have said. Although it is very tempting to just buy the digitizer since the screen is working just fine, it is extremely difficult to separate them. Its not impossible though and if you have done it before on other phones then I guess you can spend a little on just the digitizer. It involves heating up the screen with a heat gun and slowly separting the two but thats a lot more easier said than done. Hopefully the entire assembly comes down in price though as its a pretty expensive part. Good luck!
So, I shattered the glass on my Galaxy S3 today. It's pretty messed up (see the attached picture), but the touch works, even in the damaged areas. So it seems it's only the glass that needs to be replaced, with something like this:

The screen seems to work fine, touch/responsiveness is working fine in the areas. I have no intention of spending the £100-120 on a complete new screen (again...). I'd rather save that for a Nexus 5.
I'll post again when I receive the part and it's been replaced.

The screen seems to work fine, touch/responsiveness is working fine in the areas. I have no intention of spending the £100-120 on a complete new screen (again...). I'd rather save that for a Nexus 5.
I'll post again when I receive the part and it's been replaced.

Mine was working fine with cracked digitizer as well. The problems started with new digitizer. Seems that when typing hard enough the digitizer touches LCD and causes to freeze up. Anyways, Good luck.

Actually the glass on an s3 is just that, glass. The digitizer is fused together with the LCD. However glass is glued to the LCD which can make it very difficult to replace. If you've never taken on the repair of a screen before then I would say you'll be more likely to break the LCD than not in your replacement of the glass. But again it is possible if you are very slow and very careful. As someone else mentioned though it's much easier to replace the whole assembly.
It didn't went well. I wasn't too carefull. In the bottom, the glass was too shattered, so when I tried to lift it, a piece with glue got stock and lifted the digitizer. So now that don't work. I'm not gonna spend £100-120 on a new digitizer, I'm gonna settle for my good old Nokia 6300i (and Nexus 7...) and wait for the Nexus 5.
I would wait for the n5.. gs3 is a dying trend already.
Its hard like everyone said , if your really gunna do it watch videos online and be prepared. If you know anyone that has done it successfully ask for help or tips

the same happened to me on my wife's white sgs3 trying to be the savior of the day turned out to be an expensive digitizer replacement of $200 instead of the $8 glass replacement. I rushed the glass removal and cracked the lcd screen. I could have ordered one on ebay for $100 but wife needs the phone the next day so i decided to get it repaired locally.
Just replace the glass. A lot of care for changing it, but it is not so hard to do. I did it 2 weeks ago, and all is all right.

Wanted to warn that changing the glass is not for everyone. It takes patience and zen. If you rush it, you will likely break LCD and spend even more $$$ that you would have otherwise. Also following notes:
1. Watch at least a couple of youtube videos before starting.
2. Heavy duty heat blower works much better than a hair dryer. Of course, don't go crazy, as it's possible to melt the phone with it
3. S III has a wire at the bottom (the one which goes to the buttons). If you damage it, you will need to replace whole LCD, there is [almost] no chance you will be able to fix this wire. So, always start removing glass starting with the top of the phone
4. Heavily cracked glass is hard to remove, as it crumbles. To make it easier, a) put a scotch tape on top of glass, so that the small pieces stick to it, and b) use a lot of heat
5. Everybody advises to use plastic tools, personally I used swiss army knife with high level of success, and never had a problem scratching LCD. Your mileage may vary, but using metal blade certainly makes life much easier, especially in heavily cracked glass situation.
6. If you do use blade, it often is enough to get blade just a little bit under a glass, and then simply apply heat. Big chunks will unglue all by themselves.
7. Remember, that failure is always an option. Don't use it on the phone, if you know that you desperately need it working right this day, if you don't have a plan B.

same freezing issue on mine... apparently the hardness of Gorilla2 is much greater than the knockoff glass replacements. The replacement glass on ebay and kijiji may not be authentic and that is why it bends slightly when pressed harder (in fact mine cracked completely when I applied too much pressure)
i replaced my glass too (about month ago), and discovered that , the "freezing issue" come's when you press too hard.. that the glass touches lcd.
after quick google-ing , i've found that they suggest to apply uv glue (octa glue) , to fix that.
have somebody tried that ? is it worth that much effort to mess with liquid glue ?

I've heard about that glue too. I'm considering switching mine, because when I repaired I reused the glue of the original glass, and know I had dust between the glass and the lcd -.-
My concern is about the uv light, don't know if we could put in the sun to substitute it.
I was researching how to replace the glass on an iPhone not too long ago and watched a video where the guy used the UV bonding agent. Long story short he said you can use sunlight to cure it but it takes substantially longer than using a UV lamp. I don't know exact time for sunlight but apparently it would work.
Also it appeared to be a long delicate process of removing the current glue from the digitizer and LCD without damaging it. But I'm sure anyone who has already replaced the glass knows how tedious the process is.

it's not that hard to remove factory gle there..
for example, i removed mine, by rolling the glue with fingers.
just make sure, that you don't apply too much pressure to lcd.
and after that, clean up lcd form dust/fingerprints, and you are good to go.
and for removing glass, i used usual/ stronger kitchen knife (attached picture).
i replaced my glass 3 months ago.
i use normal hair dryer to remove glass and glass comes out almost as whole except for small broken pieces.
i think my scratch guard help in that.
i didnt use any additional glue or uv light.
nonresponsive screen is issue but only when you press too hard and press of power button resolve this issue.
but whole process of replacing galss took 2hrs
