I'm sure there's some thread somewhere about this, but I haven't found one after searching quite a while.
What ROMs are people using for Windows Mobile before loading XDAndroid? Searching Android Rom doesn't seem to work very well and I've tried several other options.
I'm looking for a lighter rom, but I'd like to have 6.5.3 so when I can't use XDAndroid (like when I need speakerphone or camera) then I'll still have a system I like.
If there's already a thread somewhere for this sorry, please point me at it.
There's been some debate about whether or not the ROM effects Android at all. I'm of the belief that the particular ROM you're running has NO bearing on Android whatsoever. There are others who say differently... But I've run the "lightest" ROM possible - basically boots WinMo enough to immeidately kick off Haret...and I found no difference in performance.
This was on my original TP, but the concept should be the same.
So, I just run EnergyROM. But, try it out - let us know what you think. Install a light ROM and see if there's a difference... I don't think there is, and the placebo effect plays very greatly into this without some hard numbers on performance differences. Since WinMo is booted out of memory, I honestly don't think the ROM effects Android at all.
I was thinking more along the lines of space still left in storage, but depending on how the roms are done and how much you install I guess the rom isn't a huge difference.

Hrm... Either I'm misundertsanding you, or you're misunderstood
Android runs entirely off of the SD card presently. So whatever space is leftover from flashing the ROM, it won't really matter... because currently Android doesn't touch the space that a WinMo ROM takes up. Make sense?
Using Energy Rom here and the reefer BLAZIN build runs great parallel to it. Although I also believe The winMo rom you are running makes no difference.

This is not entirely true that it has no effect. On the HD2 it really matters what kind of winmo rom you use. Don't ask me why, but with some winmo roms you hear a robot voice when calling.
So it could be possible that it also has some effect on our tp2, but I don't think that is the case for us because I never heard anyone about it.

Are you talking about the NAND bootloader for the HD2 or the SD card haret method...?
Besides, I've never experienced anything like this, and I tried A TON of ROMs on my TP1 to figure out if there was any difference. My conclusion was there was no difference. Granted WinMo initializes some things for Android, so it is still necessary, and some settings within WinMo will affect Android... but I don't think the ROM itself whether it's light or heavy will affect the performance of Android. I assume that's what we're talking about...
Slight OT but i just need to ask.....if i do finally get Android to run on my TP2 and it boots up fine. Assuming i install 10 applications from market. After i do a reboot, would the apps and it's setting stay? Or will i get a fresh android OS again?

You'll only get a "fresh" Android OS if you delete your data.img file. So yes, the apps will stay
I've ran Stock Verizon ROM and Mighty ROM. No difference when Android is booted since HARET unloads the memory space WinMo is using.

Hi,
I updated from GB to XXMF1 JB firmware through XXMB4 so I have the correct amount of RAM.
Since then my phone regularly freezes.
The Chrome-browser is really slow and sometimes even unusable, while playing music or trying to unlock the phone, the phone regularly freezes.
Everything feels slower than with GB.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I saw XXMG2 is out now, should I update to that?
I have the same problem with you. May be u should try to flash CM10, it is really smooth!

Find and download: I8160XXMG2_I8160OXEMG2 (key part of the serial number is at the end where it says OXEMG2
It will be a russion (SER) multi-csc build with 624 MB Ram and imo it's super smooth
I had updated from gingerbread straight to MF1 as well (as that was the first official non-leaked build) but had comparable issues to what you've described here on top of poor performance so well worth upgrading to MG2
Hi everyone, I just created this thread as I would like to know who is still on GB 2.3.x. Which ROM (GB) are you using, what are the current bugs or issues? I am asking since I got my Glide with ICS 4.0.4. After some research I came here looking for some answers and procedures on rooting & flashing. Found exactly what I was looking for, thanks to you all btw. Got bored of ICS as it used too much RAM & battery, tried LiteRom, had some issues, then came back to sock rooted, was not convinced. Started using some JB ROMS, issues. KitKat... issues. I want to start using a GB ROM, but I would really like some feedback form experienced users in what are the pro's & con's for GB, as I am aware that there's a lot of apps not compatible with this O.S. I would appreciate some advice from you guys! Thanks in advance
Wow... No one is using GB anymore? LOL... Just wanted to try it out, but I have only received some feedback from Androide3 using Osimod. Well... I guess I'll give it a shot sometime

For rooting GB follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082 Make sure you read it at least 3 times, to make sure you got it. Hi
even if I cannot help you regarding a pro/contra list for GB I'm interested in what your issues were in LiteROM? I'm currently developing a fork based on it because I also had issues - maybe I had the same and therefore solved already
And if so you may not need a pro/contra list anymore

Thanks for your reply ... I used it for a long time, I actually had some issues with the toggles turning on automatically, like gps, wifi and data... Camera will shut down the phone if less than 25% charge, if im not mistaken... Weird FC´s. Other issues I honestly do not remember. I was using ROMs based on KK4.4 like cr droid pac and CM11. But I went back to stock as I wanted a fully functional phone. Rooted, deleted all AT&T bloat. Did some tweaks, and so far so good. I never got used to the idea of GB as for now is way too old...

Hm never had a camera crash but in LiteROM you have the choice of 3 different camera apps maybe I use another one than you had. The toggle thing sounds more interesting because I can't remember that I saw that before! So you want to say that e.g. GPS is turning on automatically?

My Glide has been in a drawer for over a year and I recently decided to try using it again. It's still on GB, rooted and unlocked. I ended up putting it back in the drawer, mainly because quite a few of my apps complained about not having ICS or above.
I would like to update it to a newer, stable, close-as-possible-to-stock ROM when I have time.
I have been using stock ICS 4.0.4 the last 3 weeks, I really have nothing to complain as I did some mods over the stock rom, mostly uninstalling all the att crap, and some unnecesary apps like gmail & google + running in the background consuming lots of resources. So far it has been great, plus I havent had battery issues. It will last the entire day, without a heavy usage of course. Currently waiting for the release of sedirom to try it out as Im getting used to the ol ICS as it is really stable, as if not 100% stable. Has anyone used Xposed with stock ICS? If you have, please let me know which mods have you done with it.

Had my wife on Stock until upgrading to ICS 4.04. Was a bit flaky and upgraded to KitKat. I can definitely say the looks of KK is much better but it sure was more stable on stock. Biggest issues tended to be BlueTooth as we continued upgrading..

Using Bubor's OmniRom 4.4.4.... When we connect it to the car via Bluetooth (after deleting pairing, etc.) it still isn't working... On ICS 4.04 Bluetooth worked fine most of the time, but kept dropping ever so often. My wife's Fitbit Flex wouldn't connect either. Ironically, it does on 4.4.4....
Love my glide
from a hardware perspective I love my glide. I don't really want to upgrade to a new phone, but I have had several annoyances on it. One of them is the Google maps not working with Ice Cream Sandwich. Other annoyances too. I tired the KitKat rom here, and it's very good, but I was trying to get all of the google apps on and I hit a wall with the partition size. Seemed fixable but was driving me nuts. Not sure which direction I should go now.

I've had my M8 for about a year now and rooted it almost right away. I've been rooting my phones for years, since my HTC Incredible!
I've had about 4-5 different ROMs on my phone in this past year from CM to Revolution HD and Sky Dragon. But ALL of them seem to have the same issues. After a certain amount of time, maybe a week or maybe a month, they ALL start to get really, really laggy. I swear I've wiped and re-loaded my phone at least a dozen times so far!
For example, if I try to open Gmail or Chrome, it could take upwards of 5 seconds to actually pull up the program. Sometimes it's so bad, I have to force a reboot by holding power+volume up because the phone just won't respond to anything.
I've tried to go into apps and see the running programs, but most of the time either nothing special is running besides system type apps or it will just hang for minutes and I eventually force a reboot.
Am I the only one who is having such problems with these ROMs? Could I have gotten a bum phone? Is there some sort of diagnostics that I can run to make sure the CPU/Memory/etc. is working properly?
I'm at a loss right now. I nearly threw my phone across the room onto the concrete floor yesterday because it was so unusable all day.
Please help me figure out what's going on here, I'm at my wits end with this BS!

Have you tried ViperOneM8?
The latest ROM (4.5.1) is a port of Sense 7 from the M9, but still has some small bugs to iron out. They are being addressed and will be fixed in the next update.
If you were to flash v4.3.0, you would get a stable ROM with lots of customizing options. It is Lollipop as well, but still on the official Sense 6 framework.

Yep, tried that one. I think it was one of my first ones actually (I actually donated to it!). Ran that one for about 6 months before giving up and moving on.
Dirty Unicorns works well for me, I have never experienced lags but updates are always available so the longest DU rom that stayed on phone was about 3 weeks.
Latest current version is official v9.6 android 5.1.1
Also you could try fstrim app on your current rom.

Thanks, I'm running CM 12.1 right now and really don't want to install yet another ROM. I'm to the point that if this doesn't work I'll just bring it back to stock and suffer with that or buy a new [email protected] phone!
I did try to run the fstrim app (didn't know about this), but it won't run. Says my system isn't supported.
The ViperOneM8 would be a really good ROM to use. Used it from the start, till moving on to my HTC One M9.
To ensure it always runs stable you got to update your firmware sometimes to match the base the developers are using for theire ROM. Did you always do and take care of this point!?

I just came from Razr this year to M8
Stayed with CM11 thru CM12.1 on the Razr up until about this time last year(kept trying up to cm12.1 on other slots until 3/12/15). The whole time the phone would become very laggy after about a week just as you are experiencing now. It was very frustrating & I know how you feel. Tried Liquid Smooth & it was a lot better with no lag but a few bugs, then stayed with AOKP rom until about March of this year, this was the best rom for me on the razr.
Wanted a faster phone because razr was 4 years old & was thinking hardware was just to old for performance.
So my friend DumbleDore suggest M8 running Dirty Unicorns & I have great phone!!!
Had a few issues with screen turning on while in my pocket(stock did it also) but smac0628 told me to turn off ambient display & that issue is resolved.
If Dirty Unicorns does not work for you then it has to be hardware on the phone.
You should try before buying another phone!!!

Thanks, I flashed the pie patch, but that broke CM, it was stuck at the boot animation. I did make a backup, but decided to wipe and install DU for the heck of it. I don't have very high hopes to be honest after all these problems I've been having. I'm also hesitant to try to install the pie patch on DU...we'll see.
Fingers crossed that this all works!
Update: Welp, that was stupid, tried to install the pie patch on DU and it does the same thing; just stays on the boot animation. Dirty flashing the DU ROM seems to have brought it back to life without totally re-flashing.
I've never seen this issue. I'd suggest it has nothing to do with the roms, but more to do with apps installed and possibly also caches.
Yes, a clean install of anything will clean up things and all will be smooth. After time, certain apps and/or full caches can bog things down.
Your setup will determine smoothness also.
Just my opinion... But again, I've never had any rom slow down and lag after any amount of time. But my phone is lean as far as apps and setup go. And housekeeping is strict. :good:

Check all partitions, I think some roms or phones have a problem trimming system partition the reason it is not checked by default.
Its my understanding that android 4.3 & latter support trim & run automatically under certain circumstances.
http://www.xda-developers.com/yet-another-reason-to-update-to-android-4-3-trim-support/
The apps just let you control trim manually or schedule trim when you want to.
Trim is also on ssd's(solid state drives) that took the place of hdd's that could be defragged to speed up OS.
Dirty Unicorns has always been fast for me & trim was not needed because of quick updates.:good:

Something is still wrong...still locking up and being unresponsive. Just going through and deleting apps until it starts behaving...what a pain! I still don't get it though, it's not like I have new apps, these are the same that I've always been using. Dunno.

Ok sounds like you have proved it not being a rom issue & think you may be on the right track by eliminating apps that could cause issues(slow & pain-in-the-a**).
I know you been doing this for a while but is firmware & TWRP up to date?
Also when changing roms do you wipe all that is needed before install?

Latest TWRP and yes, I do believe those are the settings I use when wiping.
One thing I have noticed is that when it does get slow, opening up the recent apps and clearing them seems to help performance. That is, when it's responsive enough to bring up that screen.
About two days and still no luck. Decided to wipe and resist installing any extra programs for now. Running bare bones sucks and it's boring!
I removed about 20 programs and none made a difference. Started with the obvious ones that would/could run in the background like Facebook, but that didn't matter. The only thing that worked every time to help with performance was closing all the recent apps.
Now I'm going to run as bare as I can until at least tomorrow evening and slowly install apps...

The ROMs that you have mentioned that you have tried are all pretty much as stable as can be. I'm going to say here that it is either user caused, or you are expecting too much.
Do you think there will never be issues? It happens on stock as well.

I understand that there will always be issues. But the phone shouldn't lock up totally while doing simple things such as opening email or turning wi-fi off. Last week I was at a point where I had to force reboot my phone just about every time I tried to do something because it was so unresponsive. That is not normal nor acceptable.
I've been running SkyDragon for weeks, dirty flashed and I have loads of crap on mine. I have absolutely no issues with lag, locking up or any other kind of anomaly.
No different to stock Tbh.
I very rarely reboot, I use All-in-one toolbox to disable unnecessary apps from start up and the excellent Extended settings with Xposed.

Have you guys ever experienced any lags in the UI?
Especially when I'm unlocking my phone, opening notifications shade or going to the recent apps screen (with gestures), it's like I'm using a very old device with a 1 GB RAM and It's driving me crazy!
I used to set up work profile using Shelter, turned off MIUI Optimisation (to have the REAL always-on display) and was using super wallpapers somehow and I thought it makes my phone slow.
Today I did a factory reset, and guess what, nothing was changed!
Even at the very first step which I didn't even install any applications, lags are clearly visible.
I'm using the stock ROM and never tried to unlock the bootloader or flashing custom recovery.
Please help me. I've tried any possible solutions including factory reset.
I even compared this device with a Mi Note 8 in the same condition and the Note 8 had a better performance. Or maybe these lags are normal on this device!
Do you have any idea?
Thanks.

On latest build(global rom) right. But it only happen when the battery level is below 60%. I noticed it and moved to custom rom because of it. Install cpu frequency monitoring app like devcheck, the big cores are turned off(hotplugged), that's the cause of lags. Above 60% battery, everything is normal(no hotplug). I have no idea how to fix it, assuming that it's a bug.
Yeah, the UI after 12.5.5 update definitely lags, which is disappointing.

Thanks dear gingerboy.
But it happens all the time, no matter how much the battery level is.
Which custom ROM do you prefer? Is it stable and completely bugless?
And also, do you know any app that can messure my device's performance and compare it with other's?

I use devcheck to see the cpu, not sure if there's any reliable benchmark app for ui. Currently using xperience project. Not much choices for our phone yet, so can't really suggest. The rom is stable enough for daily use, but camera is not perfect, need to use ported gcam for basic features (ultrawide cam etc).

I think I should wait for the next MIUI update, hope Xiaomi fixes those bugs. If not I'm going to flash some android 12 based custom ROMs when they've been developed at the stable stage.
Anyway, thanks for your help bro.

Ohh thank you so much, let me try..
I have just updated MIUI 12.5.6 and the lagging problem still exists, I can't use Gmail, Twitter etc just because of the lagging..
I also wiped dalvik/cache after the update.
Finally, back to 'superman' feeling with 12.5.6... last update was big time sucks

Did you guys found any solution???
Currently using xiaomi.eu 13.0.4
It's performance is same as the MIUI 13 and the lags are still exist!
What ROM are you using? Is it more stable?

I'm using PE for couple of weeks. It's very smooth and fast, good battery life. There is unexplained occasional freezes, which I suspect is somehow related to YoutubeVanced (because that's mostly what I'm using when phone freezes). Other than that, it was best decision to move to PE.

Thanks.
I faced such crash issues with crDroid 8.2 and I'm not sure that's due to YoutubeVanced because I don't have this app.
Anyway, I'm going to flash Pixel Experience in some weeks and give it a try.
Does the camera work fine with no issues? Which camera app are you using?

I'm not using camera that much, but both stock camera (which has very little functionality) and Gcam for Mi11 lite works.
Honestly, flashing PE android 12 has fixed most of the issues I had with this phone (framedrops, weird miui power saving that limits some apps to 60hz for some reason, overall smoothness and speed, weird auto brightness...). Its just a better experience for this phone in my opinion. MIUI is only decent on phones with high end chips and even then its kinda bad.
I realised that using Super Wallpapers on xiaomi.eu ROM causes lags and bugs.
Lags are gone after I set another wallpaper.
So ...
That's it.

Never used Super Wallpapers myself, I doubt that was it.
In my opinion this version of miui 13 is still not working perfectly. I mainly noticed several problems with the smoothness of the system that don't exist in Miui version 12.5. Yesterday I installed the PE12 version and I have no complaints, great battery and performance.
