immediate poweroff after locking bootloader - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

i think i might of just bricked my 10.
I've been going through the process to get my S-on HTC_001 device upgraded to 7.x. I used the stock Deodexed image which worked fine on 1.95.401.4, but needing firmware to get the fingerprint/menu button working.
so i update to 2.41.401.3 firmware which seemed to of flashed ok without errors.
i then found a 2.41.401.4 firmware which i attempted to update to, but got errors during flash 'FAILED (remote: 9 RU_SECURITY_FAIL zip from usb command in download mode)'. A quick search on XDA shows a bootloader lock/unlock might fix, so thats what i did... 'htc_fastboot.exe oem lock'. select yes, phone reboots and poof, phone now shuts itself down almost immediately. tried VolDown+power, but no luck.
if i leave the USB cable in, it'll keep turning itself on and turning itself off. unplug cable and the moment i power on, it'll turn off again.
anything i can do to recover it? if not, whats the solution now - pay for HTC to fix?

i started fiddling and found pressing both volup & voldown while powering on got me into the bootloader and then into download mode where i can then re-unlock the bootloader.
surprised i didnt find anything about vol up&down together in my searches.
hope that helps someone, sometime!

[Q] Root gone wrong, my screen is blank [non branded HTC Desire]

Hey guys!
Now this happened for some time ago because i switched phone to my blackberry in anger over the brick of the Desire, and i can't remember exactly this happened!
I think i rooted it and then the screen suddently went blank when i started it.
Now i searched the web for looooong time, and also some threads in here, to find my golden answer - but nothing hat helped yet. But i got a wierd feeling in my stomach that i'm doing something wrong.
So since i can't do it myself i decided to wright to you, and hope that helps!
My HTC Desire is not branded.- at least im pretty sure it isn't!! There is no place it's physically branded. And it's bought in Denmark, and i don't think we've got branded phones here as in UK and USA
I've tried this guide because i saw some people had succes with it:
QUOTE''
You don't need to root or do anything unusual in order to apply the FroYo update, you only need that for custom recovery. It's not impossible to do with a broken screen, just do this:
1. Make sure the update.zip file is on your goldcard and correctly named.
2. Take the battery out first to ensure the phone is powered off. Then hold vol down and press the power button, and hold vol down for about 5 seconds. That will get you into the bootloader even though you can't see it.
3. Press vol down once. This will select recovery.
4. Press the power button once. This will start the recovery. The phone will vibrate briefly.
5. Wait 20 seconds or so. Then press vol up and the power button and wait a few seconds. You'll now be in system recovery.
6. Press vol down once to select 'apply sdcard:update.zip'.
7. Press the power button once to start the recovery.'' QUOTE END.
But nothing happens.
And i also tried Unrevoked3, but neither did that helped, it got stock at ''Waiting for root... (safe to restart if this doesn't work)''
I would really appreciate if you would take your time to help me today! Because i really want my HTC Desire back, because it is a really sweet phone after all
I know you guys are much more wiser to this than me, so i hope you got at magical form to solve this out.
So... when you boot holding the vol down key what happens?
Well the tricky part about it is that i can't see anything! But if i go into boot (atleast i think i do) i can push VOL- and then Power button, and then it vibrates briefly, so i think it's going in to recovery.
Right, try this...
Download this RUU (2.29.405.5):
http://www.multiupload.com/LEJCW182AH
Turn the phone off (remove the battery to be sure) and turn it on holding the BACK button. Hold back for about 5-10 seconds to be sure you're in FASTBOOT. Connect to the PC and assuming the drivers are installed wait a further 20 seconds
Then run the RUU. If you're unbranded it will install and should get you back up and running. If it completes and you still can't see anything the screen is dead and will need replacing
So what happens when you turn it on normally, vibrates and then you can't see anything? Maybe try this thread.
@EddyOS
Thank you!
I'm going to try the FASTBOOT right now! - i have slow internet, so i assume it's gonna take while to download the RUU - but i'll response the results here as quick as i can.
@TheGhost1233
Nothing happens, but i can see that there is light in the screen, because it turns slightly light-darker.
Also when i powered up the phone i can lock it up with my fingers and still use my touch, so it's not the ''touch'' function that there is broken.
touch is seperate to the screen anyway, lets hope its not a hardware fault and can be fixed! post your results
I'm trying with another RUU i have - while im downloading the on you've linked to - 8RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed is the one i'm trying with right now.
When i start the desire with holder down Volume (DOWN) and Power button for 5 seconds, and then plug the phone into USB there comes an jingle on my computer(which always appears when connecting any phone) but then it wont find more.
I can't see the device in ''My computer'' ?
And i get the ERROR [170] Connecting Error?
That's an old RUU so use the one I linked to
This is what i'm doing now:
Volume- and power in 5 seconds.
Plug the USB cable to the phone. (Now i can hear ''dy-dy'' from my computer, which means that my computer has detected a hardware. BUT i can't find the phone's SD Card in ''My computer'' - should i could do this?
But in my Applications i can find it under ''Special applications'' - i think i will translate i too - as ''Android 1.0''.
Now i run the RUU which you've linked to, but then i geat Connectin Error 170.
hmm?
You should be holding BACK, not volume down, when you turn it on as you need to be in FASTBOOT not HBOOT to run an RUU
Lol okay, i feel like a morron now, sorry for not have seen this.
But i still get the error 170, usb connection error!
Do i need to install HTC Sync? I've uninstalled it for the sake of unrevoked3.
And is there another way to do this? Over the phone exclusively maybe - if my USB connection fails all the time.
No you don't need HTC Sync. Sounds like you've USB-bricked the phone. You could try extracting out the PB99IMG.zip from the RUU and flash it that way but as you can't see what you're doing it's hard
And how can i see which HBOOT i got? Just want to check regarding to this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748498
Haven't a clue, doens't matter as the RUU I posted is the newest one so will work regardless
Oh, okay.
Well i'm trying to flash PB99IMG now. I'm just hoping im doing it right allthough i can't see anything.
I'm doing as following: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucBs9RVGL0w
You don't flash it like a custom ROM. You get the PB99IMG.zip from the ROM, copy it to the root of the SD card and then turn on into HBOOT. The phone will then find it and ask if you want to flash it - say yes and that's it!
Oh okay. Just from the ROM you've linked to me?
And can you remember how to say yes, just power button?
Normally it says press up for to continue but I can't remember off the top of my head
EDIT: Yep, volume up to start
Thanks mate, i'll keep on trying various of thing.

[Q]Buttons stopped working

Not sure why, but I restarted my phone today and now it just gets stuck at fastboot. None of the buttons work. If I take the battery out and put it back in it will just immediately reboot. I can't get it to stay off with the battery in.
If I plug it in, I can recognize the device using fastboot, and if I reboot the device using fastboot reboot I can get it to start properly, but none of the buttons are working. Power, Volume, Menu, Home, Back and Search all don't work. The OJ works, but pressing the button down does nothing.
I've tried flashing an RUU but it says it can't find the device. I can't get it to show up in ADB either, and even though USB Debugging is enabled, I don't get the notification that says it does.
Any ideas on what I can do?
If I hold power+volume down when I put the battery in it will switch to hboot, and I can get it back to fastboot with power+back, so the buttons should be working.
Can't you just run RUU when your in hboot or fastboot? If you can get to hboot surely you can go recovery, then you can use an RUU for defo since it should come up as being connected. Unless you have further issues.
I can get to hboot, but none of the buttons respond, so I can't get to recovery.
I managed to get a Telus RUU working from fastboot.
Now I'm using the 0.93 HBOOT, but nothing is working.
It won't boot into Android now though. My question is, since I flashed the official RUU am I still rooted? The phone is still under warranty, so I'm go to see what I can do about getting it repaired.
No, installing an RUU will remove root and wipe everything on the phone. I also believe that it changes it back to s-off, so if you sent it for repair as it is it should be fine
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

Phone won't boot

I have done ANYTHING to my M8 I have it rooted and S-ON. I turned off the phone to get into bootloader to check something. I do volume button home at start and the phone is VERY SLOW to open bootloader and finally when it gets there I can only choose fastboot my volume buttons dont work. It does hboot VERY SLOW and it keeps trying to find an image when checking sd card. PLEASE HELP !
This had happened after I went through Sunshine tests. I did not do S-OFF.
Trying RUU right now to see if it will work .
RUU didn't work phone still won't boot please help!
Hold the power button down for 10-15 seconds. The device should power off. Once off, press the power button to turn it back on and see if it boots.
not to be a negative spirit here but first you start threads with :
cant update phone
help no OS !
and now this. Couldn't this be the time maybe to really carefully check if there aren't any user errors been made ?

Stock Boot-Loop, out of options!

I was at work the night before, and my capacitive buttons stopped responding, so I went for a restart in hopes they would kick back on, this just caused my phone to enter a boot loop. Soft resetting and hard resetting both continue the loop, trying to enter recovery mode throws me back into the loop, entering download mode locks the phone on the small HTC screen. I tried to flash the current RUU onto the phone, but it won't proceed with the install due to a low main battery error despite the fact I've had it charging for 6 hours. The only thing I can think of doing now is sending it back in hopes they fix it, but theres a lot of information I ignorantly haven't backed up, and now can't access before sending it back.
If anyone has any helpful tips or ways to move forward I would be grateful.
you might be able to intervene in the process. when the phone restarts (ideally right after it restarts), hold Volume Down until the grey HTC logo appears, From here, you are in the download menu (or what is now basically the fastboot). If you are stock, you can unlock the bootloader if you havent already and flash a custom recovery (TWRP). Being in TWRP will give you USB access to your phone. And it will provide the ability to flash ROMs, including stock ROMs. Beyond that, you could always try a factory reset from either the download or the bootloader, but not much else I think you can do.
Someone might have more information than me though

Doing what you said flashes the grey HTC logo, but then goes back to looping.

Try the same thing, but this time with Volume Up, hold it until the FTM menu appears. From here, you should be able to access the bootloader.
If that also does not work holding Volume Up and Down at the same time takes you straight into the bootloader. Sadly, unless you are S-OFF, there is not a lot you can do from this menu. I dont think it accepts the fastboot commands, particularly fastboot flash commands. But if you can get into the bootloader, and then try each option, download, recovery, etc.
If you get into the recovery, it will be stock (unless you flashed a custom ROM). You have to press volume up twice to access the options, but if you get stuck, hold volume down and power and the touch keys on the bottom flash. After about 15 flashes the phone reboots.

Holding Volume up just continued the loop, I can get into the bootloader like you said, but theres not very many options, download locks the phone onto the HTC logo and doesn't proceed, the recovery option just restarts the phone into the loop.
Im afraid then, that I am out of suggestions for the time being.
Presumably your phone was charging whilst off, and not boot-looping?
Otherwise you can power down from the bootloader and try charging it. That may give you a better chance with the RUU

Yes you can RUU with the bootloader locked. Actually it's the only way you can RUU.

Mine does not charge either...and RUU does not work because of the battery < 30%
The funniest thing is that I've never touched this phone either (stock, no s-off, no unlock, no custom recovery, just updated via OTA to get Nougat), it just ran out of battery during the night and found the boot loop the morning after when I plugged it. Can't believe it could turn into a f...ing brick by itself.

No, I had to send it back to HTC and within 2 weeks they sent it back to me completely wiped and reset to factory.

My friends s7 completly bricked doing the N update. If you havnt done anything to your phone just take it back and get a new one.
Same exact issue here after the Verizon OTA update.
Failed after the first reboot after the update.
The storage was pretty maxed, wonder if that has something to do with it.

Bricked and bootloop after running fastboot oem lock

HTC 10 was running Viper10 ROM, booted into download mode and ran fastboot oem lock so I can RUU and send my phone back for a return.
Phone now bootloops immediately after turning on, HTC logo comes on for a split second and it just turns off again. I can't access or do anything. I can't boot into recovery, the phone won't let me do anything.
Am I ****ed?
I had a very very similar issue. Was getting bootloops right after the bootloader which is a good sign, fyi. It's only a soft brick.
I fixed the issue by restoring my stock firmware via TWRP. that's always your safe place and seeing you're a senior member I hope you made TWRP backup before you got funky with flashing.

How do I boot into TWRP?
As soon as the phone turns on, it just instantly turns off again or it loops when it's plugged in until I unplug it.
No button combinations work and the PC won't detect it.

Phone was just S-on with unlocked bootloader.
I held down both volume buttons and the power button and it took me to bootloader mode, went to download mode from there and the RUU flashed and now phone is relocked and back to stock.
Thanks for your help.
