Because it's a system app it probably won't work very well with a backup. If you upgrade to MM then I would recommend flashing the Note 7 version of S-Note instead.

Market Updater

Hello, I just recently installed a custom ROM (Darkside Evolution 3) on a Galaxy SII T989. I noticed it did not come with the Market Updater app (com.android.vendor.apk) and wanted to know why something like this would not be included, and can I reinstall it. I have a backup from ROM Toolbox of this app, so I can restore it.
Will missing this app not allow me to update either Google Play or my apps automatically?
Thanks.

It should, although you might have a bad download a reflash would probably fix it. A restore would as well I'd think.

Thanks for replying. I actually tried flashing twice, with a full wipe in-between, and still no Market Updater app. I would have posted this question in the actual developer thread for that specific ROM, but seeing as though I don't have ten posts yet, I am not allowed.
Thanks

[Q] S4 mini i9195 rooted - NO WiFi Tethering

Hi all,
i rooted succesfully my device following this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980 in his first istance and today i do everything again with new version:
Odin_v3.09.zip (if don't have it already)
recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.7-serranoltexx.tar.zip
GT-I9195_RootKit_v2.zip
Rooting is OK but still no WiFi Tethering (both version): the net is visible but when try to access the devices go in waiting for minutes without connection (tried with other android phone, ipad and win7 pc).
Thanks in advance to the beneficent guy who want to answer me
Hi, i have rooted it that way too. And mine teethering works.
Sorry there must be another Problem. not rooting itselve
My tethering works too. Just used it to download a massive 1.5gb file over 4G.
Try wiping your cache and flashing the latest nightly?

Sorry for the noob question but what's "nightly"?
Oops my bad. Thought you mentioned that you flashed the custom ROM. The nightlies are of the custom ROM currently being developed by arco68, CM10.1.
Referring to the this post in first version there was some wifi issues, i guessed also in second.
Any other have save problem?
I have to repair my phone? :crying:

The link you pasted is for rooting. The nightlies is a cm10.1 custom rom thats being updated 'nightly' or atleast once a day. Your problem however is based on your firmware and not because of root access. Try to flash to CM10.1 (26-08-2013 version) and see of your problem still occurs.
You can find it over at the 'GS4 mini Android development' section. (sorry cant link you atm because of xda app.)

I'm not sure If you will lose data. Since I don't know if it'll format the cache /data folder and dalvik in the process.
If I for instance update my CM to a newer CM i will not lose my personal data (I do that through CWM recovery without wiping cache or dalvik), not sure if thats the same for stock to stock flashing (which you do through odin), but I believe you're safe.
Last but not least you can always flash back to the prerooted stock rom If ofc you have the firmware (with backup) or do the rooting process yourself which is fairly easy.
Or like whosat mentioned before, flash to cm10.1 (which imho is better than Samsung stock roms).

I see now, perhaps mentioning debloating in your first post would be great!
The AllShare apps is the cause of your problem, like most AllShare plugins it uses the sharing functions of the phone like Wifi tethering and the other Samsung connectivities of which most of them is considered bloatware. Removing them on stock firmware will cause some programs to not work propertly as the system still thinks the application is installed (integrated into os) while you've deleted the system/app apk from your device.

I know this is the most secure way but not the fastest flash, root, remove (and i don't know if every set and every data stay in its own place).
So if someone can spend 2 minutes for me i'll be very graceful
Solved!
re-flashed stock rom, re-rooted, re-debloated (this time keeping Allshare apps ).
What a mess...

GJ, that was the only way im afraid. Simply reinstalling system apps wont do the job. Good that eventually things worked out well for you.

I WAS WRONG!
Now i controlled every step and the guilty is the rooting procedure:
flashing stock rom -> ok
flashing rootkit -> ko
nothing else in the middle.
How it's possible this is a only mine problem?
Finally (after tens of attempts) i understood:
the smoked gun is in the right hand of avast (its firewall), even using white list method and (obviusly) not blocking any system app.
Is this a notorius fact?

[Q] KitKat 4.4.2 & S Health

Is anyone having issues with S Health on the new 4.4.2 stock rom (T-Mobile). Looks like I am on 2.5.4.066 and have a stock Note 3, just upgraded to KitKat OTA. I wiped my phone, factory reset, just to have a clean start. for some reason, when I launch S Heath and have it try to restore my data, it looks like it crashes the TW UI and does not download my data.
I tried clearing cache, including in recovery. I don't see any updated version. Not update to un-install etc....any ideas on what I could try next?
Thanks in advance.
Tom
Naw Ive been having the same issues. Had to just start over. I couldn't restore my history but the back up is working now.

Hey, I had the same problem too. I really dont know for sure what the exact cause is, but after elimationg the MulitWindow app that allows you to add all apps to the multiwindow bar AND also just starting fresh with the shealth app (dont restore, just set it up again) i was able to get shealth running again. And after about a day it did pull up my old data and restored it. Also if you are using the multiwindow app, you can avoid it and just use wanam to add all the apps you want. This worked for me, hope it works for you. Best of luck!

[Q] Possibilities after Rooting ? GS4 for Tmobile.

What happens after the root ?
Do I have to run factory reset ?
Do all my settings stay the same ?
Do I now have the SD app and media transfer capabilities ?
Any feedback and info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys
You should just Google that question and read about why you should root. Google is your friend.

Nothing.
No.
Yes.
No.
Rooting just gives you access to the system partition. That is it. Nothing else. It does this by adding a system app that acts as a gateway over what apps can and can't have acecss to making changes to the system partition.
Once oyu are rooted you then can use apps and other tricks to add thigns like SD stoarge and stuff like that.

2 questions for you:
what Android and baseband versions is your S4 on?
what are you interested in doing after rooting? do you want to stay near-stock or change/customize everything?
I think I am going to use CyanogenMod Installer and be done with it. This seems to be the simplest and most safe solution for newbies like me.
Plus Cyanogen is really close to Kitkat UI so I will just go with that.
One question though:
I know that I don't have to root my phone to use the installer, is the phone being rooted using the installer ? Or does it stay unrooted with the new OS ?

KitKat is not a UI. KitKat is a version of the Android operating system. The UI is determined by the ROM, which uses the operating system as a base.
You will find that Cyanogen UI is VERY different from the stock TouchWiz ROM UI that you have now. (You may like it better. Half of custom romusers prefer AOSP roms like CM over stock ROMs like TouchWiz or Sense. Half the people hate them. It's all about prefernce)
As fro root, root is not in the phone. Root is in the operating system itself. Cyanogen comes with root preinstalled, so by installing CM you will have root. All custom roms are pre-rooted like this. All root really is is an app in the system partition called Superuser. That's it.
Thanks for the info again.
My friend is trying to back up his data before we both proceed with the CyanogenMod Installer but has difficulties with backing up third party apps. He says he can back up Samsung apps with no problem but there is always a problem with third party apps. Any recommendation on good backup app ? He also purchased Titanium backup but he needs to root his phone to use it.
That's for my friend now I have one more question:
Will I have googleapps with cyanogenmod installer right from the start ? I still want to use google play store, gmail, google maps and so forth.

Just root the phone first and make your back ups.
CF Auto root. It takes 30 seconds. It's the easiest thing in the world. You literally CANNOT screw it up.
Root hte phone, make backups, then install CM.
Also, Helium backup is what I use. Makes everything into a clean batch operation. And it's free. But you need to be rooted.
If I don't need to back anything up should I still root my phone ? As you mentioned before CM Installer comes with the root.
And also after the CM is installed will I have an option to go back to my previous system ?
Will it install Stock Recovery ? And what does that mean ? I am sorry I am really new to all this. Just trying to learn.

Not sure with the cm installer but I don't think so. Tge gapps package doesnt come with cm when you flash it in recovery. But its easy to do. Just download gapps, they are in every single rom thread on xda, and flash them in recovery

Just got off the phone with Samsung support...the absolute best way to back up everything on the phone is to use samsungs homegrown app...
go to www.samsung.com/us/kies
It didn't work that well in the mac environment. but once we switched out to windows 8.1 it worked great..I had a problem with S-voice that stopped working and talking back to me...they couldn't figure out what was wrong..so we backed up everything...contacts, messages, photos, videos, app's you name it..music ect ect...it takes about 10 minutes to complete...backup all of it..don't do individual things...once that's done...we wiped the phone..restored it...apparently even on the At&T phone you can get into it..to also enable ADB....im assuming that's where someone will be able to get root access....then when its finished we restored it..and it restored everything including my apps...from unknown sources . The program on that page is KIES and that's what you need to run. don't mess with anything else. Hope this helps all.
I think I may go with helium. I'm on a custom rom so no sure how well kies will work for me?
