Do you think it is wise to get an LG G6 without a case? I am pretty careful with smartphones and have not had a cracked screen or any damage beyond tiny scratches on previous devices like LG G4 and G2. It seems like LG did a good job designing the phone for mild to moderate use with the corners being metal in order to absorb the shock from falls. Still, not having owned a phone with glass back before I thought it would be useful to get some opinions on this.
Case absolutely

cases is for dyspraxis users
have had cell phones over 22 years now and just in your pocket, it's just fine. This G6 i got a Dbrand for the back just to save the camera lenses a bit (as they are flat with the casing)
However WOMEN with their bigger or smaller bags where they put it, is another story. That's just a beating on its own and very much eligible for a proper case
Having never suffered dyspraxia I still find it beneficial using a case. I've rarely dropped any of my phones but on the occasions I have it's been reassuring that if there was any damage it was it to the case and not the phone.
This time round I'll have a new case before
I've actually got a G6.
https://www.spigen.com/collections/lg-g6/products/lg-g6-case-neo-hybrid?variant=32022884481
Depending on what I think initially of the G6 I may see if I can find someone to do a swap for a V20.
If you're not someone inclined to drop your phone, then why ruin the look of the phone with a case? The phone looks great, and all cases are ugly and/or not thin enough.
Since I hated the shiny black fingerprint magnet back of the phone, I got a Dbrand brushed metal black skin on the back. Now it looks amazing, and provides a slightly better grip.
Approximately £600 GBP is why
And I think the Spigen Neo Hybrid looks pretty smart and doesn't add that much bulk.
Earlier I was looking at the dbrand skin selector after seeing a link someone posted. Care to elaborate on your experience, maybe a few pics too?
And whilst a skin can look good it's more a scratch guard than anything else.
just the level anti scratch i needed
I just did the back side.. front side is not needing any (my opinion)

I typically don't use a case and rarely have had a problem. But this phone is shaped very differently than my G4 and is pretty smooth and slippery. I wanted a case as minimal as possible, but wanted the grip and corner protection. Went with this clear one and am pretty happy:

I never have insurance so not having a case just feels like waiting for the inevitable. Even if it did fall on didn't crack looking at the scuff marks for the next however long would drive me mad.

I bought one similar and had it for a couple weeks now and although it works good and like the feel of it. I started to notice UV discoloration on the sides from being in the sun. Just wondering if this case has the same issue.

I'm not seeing that at all (yet?). When driving my phone sits in a cradle on the dash, so it is in the sun most of the time. So far no discoloration. I've had this case for almost a month now. As always, YMMV.
I imagine all the TPU classes will have some discoloration or yellowing effect from UV. Good thing is that the case is cheap so just get another one when it's too discolored.

Thanks for the pictures. Given how attractive the G6 is I like the how clear cases show off the device.

Well I'll have to order that one next time. I've had this one a little over two weeks and the sides are pretty yellow.
I use a case on every phone I buy but always buy a clear case so that you can see the phone. I take care of my phones just don't want to damage them so when I sell them and get another the back is in mint condition so has greater value.

I have the same one he does and mine has some discoloration due to UV exposure. It's not terrible, yet, but that's the Texas sun for you. I'll just get another case when it comes to it. Hopefully it'll stay flexible for a while and not stiffen up.

Only reason i would recommend a case is because of the rear camera. It can get easily cracked when you put your phone down.
Other than that, G6 is so solid.
Have always been using a case for the older plasticky phones as the feel did not change much. Ever since my first glass back one I've been going for tempered glass on front and a skin on the back, camera and sides (sometimes). That way you can really appreciate the materials used, thus enjoy not only the software side, but the looks/feel as well.
You just have to think a step forward before juggling the phone on your fingers or throwing it in the clustered backpack etc.

God I hate using a case with this phone. Its so thin, yet hearty. And looks so damn good naked.
Has anyone found a case that barely impedes on the thickness of the device yet still provides adequate protection? I use the OEM gel skin and it's great protection but I'll be damned if it doesn't thicken my phone up like a sunuvabitch. Makes it feel like my old t-mo Wing!!!!

let me start by saying...i HATE cell phone cases...ive had all kinds of phones from nextels to moto pebbles to the mytouch 4g and never once NEVER have i bought a case for one
so knowing that...i bought one of the tpu fusion cases...let me tell you something...i couldnt be happier with this case...very thin...very light...lots of good grip and feel to the case and it fits the phone like a glove
now i dont have a whole helluva lot experience with cases especially for this phone...but this tpu fusion case has to be hands down the best just based on what ive read and seen about the other cases for this phone
so i recommend you spend the 5$ it costs for the tpu fusion case and just order one

BTW im not any type of sales person or anything for the cases or the people who sell em....just love this case a lot
That's what I keep hearing. Thanks for the insight, and the link. I can't believe the TPU cases are so damn cheap...

not a problem...hope the link helps
as for cheap...yes they are very cheap and i couldnt believe it either...but quality doesnt seem to be lacking even at that price
I LOVE the way the MT4G looks and feels without a case. However, I've dropped my phone 3 times in the past month. Each time was indoors on carpet or hardwood, but still it was enough to keep me using my Epik cases.
I just wish the cases were just a little thinner. I'd risk less impact protection for a slimmer profile.
I bought the sleeve that came with the Nexus One off of eBay for $5. A little snug at first but after a few days fits perfect.
I like it because you get the naked feel of the phone but it's protection in your pocket. It also cleans the fingerprints off for you I've been using it for 3 months and my phone looks brand new.
Plus it's stylish with the little Android logo on it.
Have you tried a skin? I know it's not the same as a hard case, offers less impact protection, but it adequately protects the phone from cosmetic scratches and blemishes, and I do believe it helps with your typical cell-phone drop (i.e. I think it helps protect the phone when dropped a few feet, but anything hgher than 5 or 6 feet and it won't make much of a difference). But with any case, if a phone takes a long fall it's gone, and I don't plan on tossing it off the side of a roof. I've been using Best Skins Ever for about a month and am REALLY pleased. Like you, I'm not fond of big bulky cases - I like the natural look of the phone, and these skins allow me to protect it while not impeding on the size or look of the phone AT ALL. BSE is all I've tried but there are many different kinds - a lot of people complain of orange peel/grip issues, but I am totally happy with the BSE, and I'm picky about texture.
On a note, i don't understand why people put a super thick case on a thin phone, like a otterbox defender case on a iPhone 4.... totally defeats the purpose of a thin phone and looks dorky...

Slip case for MT4G
I do exactly what Joey above does-use an OEM Nexus One case. Protects the phone and you get the nice feel of its shape and texture when you unzi-- I mean, take it out.
But I turn the N1 case inside out because I hate the feel of the regular fabric.
FWIW my phone got a lot creakier after I put on a TPU case. I developed a creak by the camera button after using it naked for a few weeks. I than got a TPU case from ebay, and now if I remove the case, the whole top creaks when naked.
Maybe it would have happened anyways, but I thought i'd throw it out there.

since i just scratched my chrome bezel after owning it for a couple months im going to get the case. ugh why did i wait
I'm aganist cases, just because it hides the beauty of a device and the thiness. But I just got a solid black glossy TPU case and it looks awesome, I got it off ebay and don't think the seller has anymore of them. But my phone is white and I hate it, I kick myself for getting the white one, actually had no choice, when I traded my G2 off cragislist.
But with this case, I don't see any white, except around the charger port, and **** looks sick. And I'm the type of person that can't stand any scratches on their phone, I need it to look perfect and brand new. Never say you won't drop the phone and get a nasty scratch on it.
I would prefer not having a case, but my biggest concern is getting dust under the LCD. My e-71 was a very solid phone, and it eventually started getting dust under the screen. I hope to have the mt4g for a while and I'm trying to avoid any dust issues.

Curious how a case would prevent dust from getting under the LCD? Where does the dust enter?
Wow, they got here fast via regular mail! Look and feel is great. The black is solid black, not transparent at all, which is good for me. The purple I got for my wife is indeed just as seen on the website.
Buttons have a good, positive feel, not hard to press at all. Texture on the sides is nice and provides good grip. Best of all, makes the phone feel like the lean mean machine it is, unlike the T-Mobile skins they replaced.
Here are some pics of it on my phone:

To be honest, I'm not sure. The only thing that makes sense to me is that the dust somehow gets pushed into the phone's cracks from pressure/friction of just pulling in in/out of pockets. Adhesives/seals never stay perfect, and it's just a matter of time. This has always been an issue with Phones/PDAs.
A case is basically another layer of protection. Also, since the phone is thicker pocket lint is now rubbing against the case, not directly rubbed into the phone's edges/cracks.
That's the theory anyway. My phone just fell off my bed and hit a table.
It was comforting to hear a rubbery impact versus a metal/wood whack.

Thanks. I've looked at those skins for other devices but don't know anyone who has actually tried them. They look good on the website.
These work really well. My wife has had a few different ones on her iPod and they stay put, are easy to install, and don't leave any residue. I would recommend them to anyone.
I also had one on my N1. It was pretty nice and held up well. I've actually got a couple pics of it on the eBay listing I have for it now. It was a stormtrooper with a blaster. I think they will put pretty much any pic you want on the skin.
I have used these on ipods and xbox controllers they come off just fine dirt builds up around edges a little rubbing alcohol takes it right off

and just like with cases, I imagine they don't make any for the extended battery?
Very durable.
I have one of their skins on the front of my PC (It was free when I bought it...)
Since it's vinyl and not plastic, I'm sure you could trim it with an Exacto knife to put it on an extended battery, but I know that's not the same thing.
I wonder if someone sent them an ext cover if they'd be willing to mock one up?
I've used gelaskins brand skins before and they leave no residue. Alas, none available for TB yet. If these are similar vinyl I wouldn't think residue would be much of an issue.
Does it stick against clothes? I'm thinking about it, but I wouldn't get it if it makes hard to take out of my pocket.

My company gave skinit's out for its last birthday and I picked up one for my old moto droid. They work fine, they don't peel at the edges, no residue, no issues taking it in and out of my pocket. Only problem I had was with the front panel sticker, it didn't seem to fit as well as I would have liked, so I ditched it.
I eventually got bored of it and just peeled all of it off, came off in one quick peal.
One thing to note (iirc) the front sticker covers the softkeys in the front bottom. I didn't use this on the moto droid so I can't say anything about it affecting usage.
The gelaskins for the TB are out, but they do not include a front sticker, it seems.
http://gelaskins.com/store/skins/phones/HTC_Thunderbolt/
i'm using a real dry carbon fiber skin from skinomi... fits perfect and looks slick
I had a skin on my EVO I believe was from DecalGirl, but the edges of the stickers raised a little, so after a few weeks it took extra effort not to accidentally peel them off. Could be fixed by making them thinner, tapering the edges, or overdosing the edge with adhesive. Are these better?

I have been using since original post no peeling at all and my phone goes in and out of my pocket alot. For application I did wipe my phone well with alcohol taking off the oil from my hands
It does not affect usage of my front buttons. Although it does diminish the light.
Every sticker fit perfectly on the phone not to big or small.

How do you think this skin would work if I used my phone in a case sometimes? Would it play nicely or do you think it would be a problem? (Yes, I realize the silliness in putting a case on a phone with a skin - I personally use my phone both with a case, sometimes, and naked at other times.)

I have had the same skin installed on my phone, it fits fine in the case-mate pop case. I haven't had any issue with it or with the car mount.
I had to exchange my TB just last week and it took some real effort to actually peel off the skin. I am getting a second set for the new unit soon.
PS. I think the phone wit skin would fit fine in a soft/rubber/gel case but hard case like seidio surface which is very tight fitting. I think that will create an issue.
I would say it would fit easily inside almost all cases maybe even all.
It's less then 1/16th in thickness
If I still had a micometer I would check it for you but its really not serious.
Tapatalk
Skin makes it difficult to put on a hard case... Even though it is not very thick it still makes it difficult to put a hard case on and if you do use it with a hard case the case will screw up the skin and put creases on the skin as well as scratch marks on the skin.
I received my Seidio ACTIVE case the other day so I figured I'd do a little review on it.
First and foremost, the case arrived in a little box, decently packaged and the item didn't have any damage. Since I live overseas ship times can be quite ridiculous, but the package arrived 9 days after placing the order (that's pretty fast for me, seriously)
As you can see, not a whole lot of packing material but it really wasn't needed. The SURFACE I accidentally ordered was in a little smaller inner box and there were enough packing peanuts to keep it secure.

Case back:
View of the kickstand extended:
The phone sits at approx a 45 degree angle when the kickstand is extended:
The phone does NOT sit flush on its back due to the kickstand. There's a slight gap and the back is raised just a little bit. Might drive some people crazy:
Front shot with the case on my S4A:
Side shot of the phone next to the case to show how much bigger it will be:
PROS:
1. If you've used one of these before you know what you're getting. The case fits pretty well and the back hold the silicone case on just fine.
2. The kickstand works ok, I wish it were in the middle of the back but for the most part it works fine. It does tip over if you touch the left side of the screen though, I don't see myself using this for anything more than viewing videos. The stand is held in place with a little magnet and it's spring-loaded, it pops out with a small bit of force (nothing crazy) and is held by the magnet just fine.
3. When faced down on a slick surface it doesn't slide around easily. The silicone holds it in place (might be a negative for some)
CONS:
1. I think Seidio made their silicone softer for some reason. I have an iFail 4 with one of the CONVERT cases and I was highly impressed with the quality of the silicone case (not the phone, but that's a different story/review). The silicone on that case just seemed to be a bit more 'firm', it did not slide off the sides/top nearly as easily as this case does. I also have a Nexus 7 with the ACTIVE case and I have the same complaint. I thought the smaller profile phone case would be better (since the Seidio cases for other tablets have the same complaints) but it's not. It comes off the top/bottom with barely any pressure. It goes right back into place of course, it doesn't come off the phone without removing the plastic back, but it's still annoying to me.
2. The kickstand does not work in portrait mode whatsoever. I personally don't care but I call it a con since I know quite a few people like to view in portrait mode.
The protection is there and I'm satisfied so far, much more than I was with a TPU case as far as protection/drop resistance goes, but the soft silicone annoys me a bit. I'm afraid that it'll stretch out like the Griffin case did on my wife's iPad 2 and sag after a few months. My wife also has a S4A, right now she has a Tudia Melody case and I was going to buy her one of these ACTIVE cases but I think I'll wait.
All in all I give it a 7/10. I'm just not confident in the silicone being so freakin soft and holding it's shape after a few months, especially for the $40 it cost me.
ETA Nov 26 2013: After a few weeks I have to downgrade my score to a 4/10. The power button is entirely too easy to press and hold while in my pocket, it's contently turning my screen on and it'll type in random pin codes OR hit the emergency contacts. If the power button is depressed for 10+ seconds it restarts the phone. Is been happening quite often while in the case and never while in my Supcase.
Also, while the silicone hasn't deformed or lost its shape the fact that the top and bottom slip off extremely easily bugs the crap out of me.
For an expensive 'rugged' case these flaws are extremely annoying, especially since the Supcase cost 10 bucks and does a better job. I really like the kick stand though!
Thanks for this detailed write up on the case! I too have one as well and I love it. I've always gone with the Active cases for all my phones, I love them. They always feel so solid and premium to me. As for the softness of the silicon, I don't think it will be an issue. I still have my S3 and it was always in an Active case as well, with lots and lots of use. I just compared the two and the softness seems identical to me. So I think it should hold up over time. It's definately my favorite case!
Good write-up! Thank you.
I've been wanting to get one of these cases, so this was timely running across your review.
Out of curiosity, how long have you had your Active case for the Nexus ? I've got one on mine that's probably 7 months old now, and I've noticed no "stretching" of the silicone liner, even with a lot of "on and off's" from my Nexus.
Maybe it's a variance between manufactured runs, but while I certainly wouldn't say that mine is "rigid", it's not really "soft" either.... in that I can't mar, or mark it with a fingernail or anything.
If it's the same for this case for the GS4A, then I'll be a happy camper.
I've only had the case on my Nexus since July and I haven't removed it at all. So far I'm impressed with it and I think it's a worthwhile case. It's a little overkill for what I use it for, a TPU case would probably work just fine, but I like the stand and the screen protection in case I need to throw it in a bag or something. As far as the review I might have been a little unclear about the N7 case... The silicon is less firm than the iPhone 4 case BUT after using it for the last couple months I think it'll be fine.
The S4A silicon is thinner and softer than the N7 case IMO. You know how the edges on our N7s comes off but you have to (more or less) consciously push it off? The S4A pops up/off with barely a touch. Since it's in/out of pockets quite a bit during the day I think it'll either wear out or get torn at the bottom. I'm not going to get rid of it or anything, I do believe the case will protect the S4A if dropped, but the softness of the silicon bugs me a little.
Thanks for the wonderful info...it was quite interesting one to go through it....
For what it's worth regarding the softness of the silicone. I had a galaxy note which is much larger than these phones with an active case on it for a year in heavy use daily and the only wear it ever showed is the matte finish on the back got shiny from all the handling. Silicone still looked like new with no tears. Many many hard drops on concrete where I worked and never any damage to phone.

Looks like is now called DILEX instead of ACTIVE for the S4A.
I recently ordered two great cases from Aliexpress. Now the usual caveats apply: They can take a long time to get delivered (it took 10 and 15 days for them to arrive), but you get free shipping.
The first is a soft silicon case. I got it in black, and it looks like it's just part of the phone. (It makes it look a bit like one of those rugged Samsung Galaxy phones). Importantly, the case protects the camera bump in the back. I got mine for $2.44, and it took about 15 days to arrive. The power buttons and volume up/down stick out nicely from the sides and are very clickable. They have a good feeling to them.

The second is a clear plastic bumper case. It's definitely more low-end, but it still works well. It's clear, so it lets your nice-looking G5 Plus show through. It's very thin, which is nice. It also protects the camera, but unlike the case above, it simply adds on top of the camera. Meaning, there's still a bump, it just adds plastic on top of the camera. The silicone case has a recess so that the bottom of the case has no bump. This one cost me $3.44, and arrived in around 10 days.
Personally, the silicon / carbon fiber case is my daily driver. It looks cool. For $2.44! You just have to be patient.
I was interested up until you called your phone a daily driver and then i thought if it is going to have that effect on me i should really give it a miss.

Oh no, what have I done?
I meant that the "carbon fiber" black/grey case was my daily driver (I didn't want to confuse anyone since I ordered two cases, and wanted to clearly state which one I'm using day to day).
That first case has been pretty great so far. The only small problem I've is there's a tiny edge that's exposed below the charging port. When I play video games holding the phone landscape, it can feel a little rough. Besides that, I love the case. Usually I despise phone cases and long to remove them. That's not the way I feel with this one.

How is it at actually protecting the phone?
The black case looks nice. Is it easy to grip? I usually try to forego cases on my phones, but the G5 Plus is so hard to grip properly on its own...

There's a few ways that I like how it protects the phone: First, the case protrudes off the back so that the camera "hump" doesn't touch when you lay the phone down.
Second, if you lay the phone down on its front, the screen isn't resting on the table. Plus, it helps with minor bumps, etc.

It's very easy to grip, and to me, it feels better than just the phone. The phone felt a bit too light and slippery minus the case. (I normally HATE cases. I had a Nexus 6 and Moto X and steadfastly refused to encase them, mostly for appearance reasons). I got the $179 Amazon Prime version, and between the low price and the light weight, I was afraid I would treat it like a cheap phone. This makes it feel more robust without being clunky and annoying.
The case actually looks cool, which is nice. (My phone is black/grey, so I'm not missing much). The case buttons (power/vol+/vol-) stick out quite a bit, and it makes them much more clickable. (The clear case I linked to above, the buttons can be hard to click unless you know where they are by memory)

I've had a bit of a different experience. I've never used the phone naked, but I find the case is fairly slippery. The back's not tactile textured (just smooth silicone), except for the patches at the top and bottom.
I also personally find the buttons to be quite soft and have little feedback. YMMV.

I just received my case in the mail. It's slightly less slippery than the naked phone, which is an improvement. The buttons aren't as tactile as without the case, but not bad. Overall, I think I'll use the case rather than go without it.
Got my RhinoShield Crash Guard today. Fits nicely and sits up high enough on the back to protect the camera, the front seems to be high enough to keep a tempered glass screen protector off the table, we just need a good screen protector now. The case feels good in the hand, but being a little softer or some kind of tackiness would be nice. The only thing I'm not a fan of it the power button. The volume buttons are raised a bit, but the power button is almost flat. You can get the button to raise up a bit if you put the phone in the just tight. You can feel the indented area around the button to be able to feel it, but having it stick up the same as the volume buttons would be better. All the buttons react fine, just need the power button raised more.
Really? I just got mine and I hate it lol. Buttons are mushy and obliterated my skin when It on and gathers dust like no other. I'm so done with RhinoShield lol. Glad yours works great though! Hoping Dbrand Grip is better and if not, going back to Toast case
Yeah, not impressed. Fit is terrible. Buttons are crap. It's going back.
I don't find the buttons to be bad for me ...fit is tighter than my iPhone X mod bumper ..but I like the fit although we shall see once I try a skin... I do think they should've made it with better grip on sides maybe some ridges for grip...
Pixel 2 XL
I like it.
Mine fits fine and the buttons all stick out the same and are responsive for me.
I agree that the sides are a little slick but just maybe that will get a little better with time.
I'm going to use it for the next couple of weeks and see if I feel the urge to go back to one of my other cases.
When I got one for my 6P, I almost never used another case.
I just bought mine..... let's see what the experience is. The reason i bought it is because i just dropped my phone a couple of days ago and cracked a bit of the screen, should've bought this from the beginning.
I dropped my 6P a couple of times from around 5 feet onto concrete and my phone was none the worse.
The rhinoshield got a couple of scuffs but obviously that's a good tradeoff.
Hopefully this new one for the pixel 2 xl is as good.
And by the way, I did order from the beginning, but unfortunately the company wasn't ready to ship these until a few days ago.

Yeah, let's hope so!!! I've heard really good things about it.
Got mine on the way.
What screen protector are we all using?
I ordered the crash guard protector as well, not expecting big things
After using the case for a couple days I'm changing my mind on the power button. I actually like the way it presses. The volume buttons are moulded into the plastic and the power button, from the inside of the case, looks like it would be one of the buttons off their iPhone case that has different color buttons you can switch out. I'm now liking the feel of the button. If they made all of the buttons the same, like the power button, it would be better.
It went on without a hitch .. although it's a bit of a pain lining up with my bad eyes lol
I recommend using the blow dryer on any skin install

Just got mine and it's as good as I expected. Been a fan since the Guard on my 6P and this one didn't disappoint. The buttons feel just fine to me.
Have had mine for about a week now with a Dbrand skin. Just like with my 6P, I love the RhinoShield for the P2XL. It is a little smooth but that is something I'd imagine gets better with more use. The buttons are fine, every cable I have tried (I have a lot) work with the USB C port. It is a little too slick which is why I have the Drband grip on order through their campaign but I always planned on ordering both maybe even using both from time to time.
I'm guessing these won't be any good with a screen protector? I have the InvisShield on at the moment. Great protector.
Can someone share some photos of the front?

I’m thinking your screen protector doesn’t go to the edge ...I’m using the Intelliarmor one with no issues small gap on sides ...

Just to follow-up. I've had my rhinoshield bumper for a little over a week now and I definitely love it!!
It fits perfectly and buttons work fine for me.
Also, and really one of the most important reasons to get one of these, my 2xl fell out of my dress shirt pocket yesterday as I was picking something up outside of my front door onto the concrete. The fall was probably only about 3 feet as I was bending down to pick up a package but it was a pretty violent fall and hit the concrete pretty hard.
The result was the same as I'd had the couple of times my 6P fell onto concrete.
The corner of my bumper is a little scuffed (a little sad about that) but the phone is still pristine.
It's a really good option and should get more consideration. And you still get the feel (a little anyway) of a naked phone.
Bumper just feels better and better the more you use it... I only wish they would have different colors..

Should I install the precision or standard fit Dbrand skin if I will be using it with the RhinoShield Bumper?
My wife me to install the precision fit skin, but I'm thinking it will get damaged with the bumper, any thoughts?
