"Unfortunately Google Play Services has stopped". FML - Lenovo Vibe P1 Questions & Answers

So this has been an ongoing problem with my Lenovo P1 Vibe. Every time I perform a factory reset, the play store will not open and every 10 seconds I get "Unfortunately, google play services has stopped" over and over again, essentially rendering the phone useless. I've fixed this many times before by going onto apkmirror, figuring out the correct apk variant for my phone architecture/version of android/DPI and manually downloading and installing the correct apk, but for some reason this time, nothing seems to work.
I've flushed the cache, cleared all data, stopped the program, uninstalled updates, reinstalled updates, reset the phone, I've tried 440 variants, 240 variants, 280 variants etc of play services from various versions from 7 to 11 but just nothing seems to work. I'm this close to throwing this phone away and going to buy a Samsung. Can anybody help with this at all?
Im running Android 5.1.1 with (I believe) arm64-v8a architecture and nodpi. So I believe this means that with versions of play services before v8 I would require the 440 variant, and for versions after v8 I would need the 240 variant, correct? I've tried everything I can think of for the past two days and am completely on my last nerve with this issue now.
Thanks so much for any advice.

Apps won't download from Play Store

I can no longer download apps from the google play store. I press download, it says "Downloading...", the loading bar has small lines going across it, but progress never starts, and it sits there like this. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am running Tiny CM10.1.
My problems with the play store were solved when I wiped and reinstalled from scratch. This a sudden thing, or have you made any changes lately?
Others have also reported success by going in to Apps Management and choosing "Clear Data" for the Google Play Store. (There's also a Google Play Services in the list...not sure if it's necessary to clear that, too.)
I have had this problem somewhat recurringly on this rom, it didn't work for a while, then I cleared play store, download manager, basically anything with Google in the name. Other times this fixed it, but this time it wouldn't work even after a restart. I ended up getting it to work by rebooting to recovery, wiping cache, and restarting.

I Just had the same problem. Here is how I fixed it,
- Uninstalled updates for Google Play
- I added a New Google Account.
- I Then signed into the new Google Account, Then Sign Into Your Main Account
And "BOOM" problem solved.
I never had this problem until recently and it's happened several times now. It seems to happen after a major change to my system ie rom update or multiple app updates or Tibu restore I not really sure. I tried several methods of un-installing & re-installing the play store app and wiping it's cache and data with varying degrees of success.
What has worked every time without fail is a complete cache wipe with "CacheMate for root users" app.

[Solved] Play Store Error 920; CM 10.2.

Really enjoying my (problem free) Nexus 7 2013, but stock Android has some missing features compared to CM10 that is on my phone. So last night I installed CM 10.2 (8/24), and 8/13 gapps for android 4.3. Also put in a custom kernel (bulletproof). Everything set up, and then part way through installing all my apps, google play stopped with a 920 error on all the rest of the apps, and refused to do anything more.
Redownloaded both CM 10 and gapps, erased, reflashed (no custom kernel this time), same error 920 partway through the downloads.
A new CM10.2 build (8/26) was available this morning, so downloaded that, redownloaded the gapps again, and flashed. Almost all of the apps got downloaded this time, although a few had an error 923 (manually downloaded those without additional issue right away). But right at the end of the auto downloads, the play store crashed (application unexpectedly closed), and when I went back to it, error 920s again.
Some research online lead to a few possibilities:

Cleared cache on play store and play services. No help.
Titanium Backup won't find my old backups, despite walking through the instructions at the CM10.2 thread. So I can't restore the Android ID as someone suggested.
At one point I completely removed my google account, the data in the play store app, the download manager, and play services. That worked, sort of - I could download apps without error 920, but it decided that all of my previously installed apps were installed from somewhere other than the play store, so to get them back to normal state required un/reinstalling all of them. I started over instead.

This has a very detailed fix, that involves installing an updated version of the play store and a different play account. But I was already on the latest version of the play store (tried installing the same apk over top, but it didn't make any difference), and the secondary google account worked to download things, but didn't fix the first one.

While writing this post, I saw the suggestion in the s3 thread to wipe cache / dalvik and repair permissions from recovery. Tried it as a last resort, and suddenly I have full functionality again. Not sure why that fixed it, when I had done those steps as part of the install, but there you go.
Thought I would go ahead and post this as fixed in case anyone else had the same issue. All the results I found searching for this problem were for other devices, or other errors for this device. Hopefully my story and link collection will be useful to someone else.
I just got my Nexus 7 (2013), "N7b" for short?, anyway, when I started it and I began downloading all my apps, it shipped about 50 with error 920. Then it started getting them all. After that it seemed episodic. For a while they would update, for a while they would error.
I also updated the apps on some of my other devices and was also getting an occasional error downloading the apps. So, i think this is a problem with google's server, not our apps or ROMs.
Works with GNex as well.

Thanks. This worked for me and my Galaxy Nexus after I clean flashed AOKP MR-1 Milestone 2, and got the errors as my apps were downloading again.
Worked for Galaxy Tab 2!
This also worked for my Galaxy Tab 2 running CM10.2. Thanks for the post.

[Q] Yet another Google Play Services Error 491 help request, but...

I've tried all of the fixes I've found but nothing works.
I was running rooted stock 4.4.2 and then upgraded to 5.02. (the new UK release from SamMobile). Everything works fine, except Google Play Services. Initially I got the 492 error but cleared that. Now, no matter what I try, it just keeps popping up.
I have TWRP 2.8.7.0 recovery and I have a TWRP back-up from a month ago.
Anyone any new ideas? (apart from delete account reboot, delete cache, data, force stop Google Play Services/Store)
Please?
Pretty please?
Check your time and date.
John.
When you get that error it usually asks you to update google services. Always does for me when I reload lollipop and fixes it every time.
Or just download from the link below.
You need to go to apps settings and check the version number of Google services. You need the last 3 numbers in brackets. Probably 436 if you're on lollipop.

Google app crash

Hi, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I decided to update Google Play Services on my G4 (android 6, stock rom) and since then, all Google apps (gmail, google keep, google play store,...) keep crashing.
I downloaded Google Play Services 8.7.03 on apkmirror and I chose the variant 440 (arm64 + arm, android 6.0+ and nodpi)
I can't deactivate or uninstall Google Play Services and I wish there is another option than restoring the entire phone...
Try a few different versions of Play Services?
Hi, thanks for your answer.
I've called a friend who also has a G4 (android 6) and asked him what is his version of Google Play Services. He has the 8.7.03 (variant: 440), the exact version I manually installed.
I saw on forums that I could try to delete my google accounts (which I did, but Google apps are still crashing and now I have a notification telling me I have to link the phone to a gmail account, but I can because Google Play Services crashes all the time).
I also tried to reboot, clear the app's data, uninstall all updates and reinstall the right version,... but still crashing.
I'll try one last time everything I've already tried and if it doesn't work, I'm afraid I'll have to reset to factory settings...
Can you just reflash the system partition and not touch user data? I think that might work.

Reflash? Do I need root for that? My phone is not rooted (but I was just wondering if there is a way to root the G4 under android 6 without touvhing the bootloader)
Update: I reset to factory settings, now I have to get everything back on the phone.
One advice: never manually install Google Play Services, I've read loads of people commenting that they had the same kind of trouble.
Even if you install the right version (the version I manually installed was the exact same than my friends')

[Help] Uninstalled Play services and never wrote down the variant code

Hi guys,
As the title stated I removed play services on a sm-j530f that I just rooted with magisk with intent on rolling back to 12.6.85 and I forgot to check which variant it is that I needed to install. Is there any way around this as I really don't want to hunt for the original firmware and start all over again.
I have tried wiping the phone but when I get to "checking for updates" during initialization setup it freezes I assume because there are no play services to handle the login system.
I am an idiot... I know...
Reinstalling OpenGapps
I think it is enough to reinstall opengapps. Go to opengapps.org and download the correct variant. From what I found out, the processor seems to be 64bit, so try the ARM64 variant. That should restore anything you broke.
