Lollipop downgrade to Kitkat.....HELP!!!! - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please help!!!
I've been tying to downgrade from Lollipop to Kitkat by following various tutorials (like this one, for example), on here and around the net, but to no avail.
Every time I flash the 108 kernel, using Flashtool, whenever I restart my phone I get stuck in some sort of loop that doesn't get past the Sony logo screen. As such I have no other option but to do a Software repair using the Sony Companion.
Is the Sony Companion Software repair causing the problem or can someone point me in the right direction of a (guaranteed) way to go from Lollipop back to Kitkat.
Also, if it's any help, I have no recovery, no root and my bootloader is locked and can't be unlocked.
Thanks

You won't be able to boot your rom with the wrong kernel. I think that tutorial assumes that you're on KK.
Download the whole KK ftf and flash it, then use doomlord rootkit to root. You can get ftf here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/so...f-xperia-z1-compact-d5503-14-4-0-157-t3118047
Btw, what's your ultimate goal? Are you wanting to root and then go back to LP, or just use KK?

Just root and stick with KK.
Thanks, I'll give it a try. But won't be able to for a couple of days, so don't hold your breath for me to get back.

[Q] How to back up app data & settings without root and Ultimate Backup Tool?

Hi, everyone. I can't seem to find the solution for my prob, so I've to ask for ur knowledge on this.
Problem:
I'm using Xperia Arc with latest stock firmware without root. And I want to back up my app data & settings before resetting or flashing it.
Attempt:
I've tried Ultimate Backup Tool, but to no avail, just as mentioned in the Ultimate Backup Tool thread that there are known problem with Xperia Arc as one of the Sony 2011 devices.
I've looked through all the rooting methods for Xperia Arc, and I can't seem to find or perform a working root on the phone without flashing it. Naturally, Titanium Backup can't work as well.
Question:
So, what options do I have to back up the app data & settings now? And I'm looking that whether will a flash necessarily wipe the data on ur phone? Can I retain the data even after flashing the phone?
Really appreciate for ur help. Thx~ =)

You can't, it's not possible to access and backup app data while your phone is not rooted. Are you on GB or ICS?
BTW, you don't have to flash your phone to root unless you have to downgrade. In the instance for ICS .587, I only need to flash the kernel of .562, root it via adb, then flash back the .587 kernel. This should not wipe your data.

Thx a lot for ur reply. I'm on ICS .587 too. I was just afraid that flashing would wipe the data. And now this is clear.
Seems like this is the only option that I have, right? Btw, won't flashing it back to the latest firmware lose the root? Bcuz I used to have root, but I lost it when I updated my phone through official update methods. Or is that why I lost root?

You lose root from both flashing stock firmware and updating through official updating methods.... at least for locked boot loaders

Yes, flashing will lose your root, so does updating it via the official method. Flashing the entire ROM would wipe the data, but flashing the kernel does not.

Really? Then, what's the point of downgrade the firmware then upgrade again? Lol~
So, does that mean that with unlocked bootloader, I can keep root even after upgraded?

You can't root the latest firmware so you have to downgrade to root. You then upgrade by flashing the latest firmware's kernel which upgrades the firmware to the latest version and also keeps root status.
As for unlocked bootloaders, I can't comment because I have no experience with them

Nope. You flash the kernel of the latest version of stock firmware. Here's an example

Anyways, I tried flashing the .587 kernel on my .562 stock. My firmware version still read .562, so I don't think flashing kernel will update firmware on unlocked bootloader.
As for rooting the latest firmware, you can update first, downgrade the kernel and root. You can keep data this way and get root.

Yeah, when you unlock bootloader, you also remove DRM keys that connect to Sony servers. So Track ID, Playnow and other Sony services won't work anymore. You also cannot use OTA updates as it will brick your phone.

Hmm~ I'm aware of that. But from first impression, it seems like they're not that important, since apps like Playnow are not useful. The only one that I use is TrackID, which I saw Sony published it on Play Store for public download. Sounds like it's fine to lose the DRM key too. Lol.
Arc S kernel and Arc kernel is different. Don't flash or it may cause problems.

[Q] Can't flash back to ,62

Hello! I'm having a problem with my xperia arc S, I tried to install a ROM (ULTIMATE HD 3.1) but I didn't have the wifi modules, so my phone got stuck on boot, so I figured that I got a bootloop, and went to flash the kernel (562), root again again and flash the new kernel (587) to try and install the ROM again, but the phone didn't root, but I flashed the .587 kernel and can't flash it back to .562. I can't figure what's the problem the flashtool says it's flashed but in setting the "compilation number" just says that it has the new kernel.
So my problem is how can I flash back to .562 and root the phone? I already tried this a few times (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118343), but it dosen't work. what else can I do? Try with another kernel?
I also tried this, but it didn't work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219711. I don't know if it helps but i have the bootloader locked.
Sorry if repost, google but didn't find anything related. thanks anyway.

Had a similar problem, caused by wrong kernel (at least i think so). Anyho, there was no "repair" option for me either.
What you should do is:
- Flash back to stock GB firmware (0.62)
- Root (using eRoot, it's a one click procedure.)
- Install CWM using RecoveryX is the simplest way i'd say
- Flash the kernel which Jared proposed (can't remember which one sorry)
- boot into CWM, and follow the instructions to install UltimadeHD rom. I'd suggest Tesla's instructions, they are fail-proof. Remember to click on "unlocked bootloader" if your bootloader is locked.

[Q] Can C6506 - 10.4.B.0.569 Be Unlocked And Rooted

I have an Xperia ZL C6506 - 10.4.B.0.569

You can root it and install recovery. Unfortunately you cannot unlock the bootloader.
This means that you can only flash stock based Roms, not any AOSP Roms like cyanogenmod, aokp, omni, p.a.c, etc... More specifically, you can only flash stock kernels. The ROM is Dependant on the kernel you are using. Stock kernel for stock Roms. Aosp kernel for aosp based Roms.
With Sony's devices (as of late anyway), the kernel is baked into the boot.IMG. And you can only alter, change, or flash a custom boot.IMG if your bootloader is unlocked. Sucks, but that's how it is.

At least I can still root the phone which at this point was my primary interest.
As I mentioned I have not seen any rooting info for my particular build or model together. Am I missing something?
Did I not see it or has no one done it yet for this build/model setup.
Where would you suggest I go from here?

You need to downgrade to .423 stock kernel. Use Androxyde's Flashtool to flash that kernel.
Then use Doomlord's Rooting Toolkit to root your phone.
After that, flash the .569 kernel with Flashtool.
Now you can install NUT's dualrecovery.
Here are the steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2388946
At point 11. you flash the .569 kernel..
I have successfully rooted my phone.
However I can't figure out how to get it back to .569
Do I need to use the Flash and Stripped version(This seems to be linked to rooting)
Or can I just use this
[FTF] Xperia ZL (C6506) 4.3 - 10.4.B.0.569 - Generic US
Found at this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2637847
Edit:
On a side note will I be able to update to 4.4 Kitkat when it is released for my phone by the normal download
or will I have to flash it to keep the root?
Edit:
So I tried flashing the Full FTF but ended up losing root. I tried to do the other option of using the flash/stripped version but it says I need TWRP and there
is no version for the ZL only the Z. Will the Z one work or am I going about this the wrong way.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey,
There is recovery for the ZL, you can get it from Nut's site here http://nut.xperia-files.com/
Looks like his latest recovery is called "ZL-lockeddualrecovery2.7.95-BETA.installer.zip (9.35MB)" at the moment.
If you flash my build 569 and lost root then you used the untouched FTF from Sony and makes your phone completely stock.
What you wanna do is flash back to an old 4.1.2 that will let you obtain root with DoomLord's 1 click method.
Once root is on your phone, install Nut's DualRecovery from the link I just gave you.
Download my 2 files (stripped FTF and flashable zip) and copy the flashable zip on your SDCard.
Now reboot into recovery and flash the flashable zip, once it flashes successfully, power off your phone. DO NOT Reboot.
Use Flashtool and flash the stripped FTF and boot your phone.
You will be on rooted build 569 with root and dualrecovery already installed. :good:
-------
It was also suggested to me for my Xperia tablet that if you already had root and simply wanted to update, all you have to do is:
1) copy zip to SDcard
2) go into recovery and install zip (without wiping anything)
3) turn off phone
4) flash kernel via flashtool
But I haven't tested this way
Thanks Crash338 that worked
I now have a rooted phone with .569

Thanks for your reply. I managed to get it to work after flashing the file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2687324 using flashtool. Cheers!

I bricked my ZL - Black screen after Logo as result of flashing ftf

Hey friends,
I finally managed to brick my device (c6503).
Had it on resurrectionremix and wanted to go to lineage. After that didnt boot i tried some older CM12/11 builds and finally lost my recovery whith flashing an aosp rom...
I decided to go on stock using flashtool, and now here I am, looking as stupid as it gets
Tried various ftf's using flashtool, always resulting an a black screen after the sony logo. now i dont know what to do next.
Your Help is much appreciated

I was able to find a solution myself. I flashed some Kernel which included cwm via flashtool. I was able to boot into this recovery. Then I used ADB sideload to install CM14.1 unofficial and voilà!
I hope this helps anyone having a similar issue.
Regards!
Were you able to return to ROM STOCK ??
I'd like that, but unfortunately I could not, even flashing a custom recovery on it.
I would like to go back to ROM STOCK, do you know any tips?

I have a similar question, I appreciate your help if you can.
Now, I have 7.1.1 Nougat from XOSP , and it works well. I'm trying to restore the official kernel from Sony, using Sony's Emma, to make some tests. When I flash the package from Emma onto C6503, it won't turn on, just show Sony Xperia logo and then black screen. Do I need to flash other packages ? I thought the Sony's official kernel has all things to put it back to near original form.
Thanks!
I have Installed RR-N 20160312 then revert to stock LL, then Only Sony/Xperia Logo. Then I ask some question, they say Flash Kk, successfully flash the Kk build. But unfortunately, My Internal Storage Cannot Read. I think that was the Problem why flashing LL just make it only Sony Logo, No Bootamation. Still finding a workaround to fix this

I was not able to return to stock Rom. In fact, I tried to revert to stock today by simply flashing it with flashtool but got the same "black screen after Xperia logo" issue as last time. I would like to return to stock in the future, but for now I dont know how and I dont think there is anyone dedicaded to fix this issue right now.

Same issue here.
Tried locking back bootloader, flash ftf via flashtool, black screen.
Tried flashing directly via Emma, black screen.
Running out of ideas...

Well, just got back to Stock 5.1.1.
Followed the idea posted by Kran007:
-Coming back from CM14, used EMMA FlashTool, that resulted in the famous black screen
-Flashed stock Kit Kat FTF using FlashTool (not EMMA) with unlocked bootloader (should work perfectly fine for locked bootloaders as well) and started the phone correctly.
-When back to FlashTool and locked the bootloader, just in case.
-Used PC Companion to update to the latest build available, only works with locked bootloader i think
It's not the best solution, it isn't the fastest either, but it works!!!
Hope this can help anyone...
Just flash stock 4.4 kk firmware using flashtool. Yes, it needs a lot of work to go back to stock LP, root and have recovery but it is the best way when you flash custom rom with nougat and above. I don't face again the problem of not accessing internal storage ☺
