how to flash ota o factory image without losing data? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have installed the last 7.1.2 beta + Franco kernel on my phone. And i have received the ota to install the stable version, but it fails because the kernel is not the original one I guest...
I have downloaded the factory image, but I'm not sure if i will lose my data if i install it using flash -all script...
What's the best method to update to the stable version without losing all my data/configuration?
Thanks!

[Q] Update to 4.4.3

My Nexus 7 wifi has the 4.4.3 update that has been prompting me to update. I tried doing the update which fails.
I do have TWRP installed, MultiROM, and a customer kernel. I tried flashing a custom kernel which did not resolve the issue.
I currently swap between stock and CM depending on what I would like to play with.

I'd do a nandroid before doing anything.
It might help if you state what the exact contents of the error is, my guess is that you have changed something in /system (unexpected contents error), and flashing a custom kernel won't fix it, in fact you would want to flash a stock 4.4.2 system.img and stock 4.4.2 boot.img if you want to use the OTA method, else you can just skip using the OTA and try and flash a 4.4.3 system.img and 4.4.3 boot.img, either way make sure you clear dalvik and cache before booting up after the system flashes.
You cannot install official updates if your device is modified!
Since you mentioned that you are familiar with CM, why don't you update to the latest CM ROM?

I play with it every once in awhile but I don't know why I enjoy stock but I do. Maybe I will go back to CM.

[Q] How do I install the Lollipop OTA update on my rooted Nexus 7 with TWRP recovery?

I have a rooted Nexus 7 with TWRP recovery. I received the update message today for the Lollipop OTA update and when I ran it the phone restarted to TWRP and just sat there? What do I need to do to get this update installed? Do I need to put stock recovery back on? If so what's the easiest way to do that? Thanks!
Easiest way would to be to flash the stock recovery. I don't even bother with flashing TWRP, I boot into it with fastboot when needed.
Thanks, where can i get the stock recovery img from?

You need to flash the stock rom for Nexus 7 (2013). By doing so, TWRP recovery will be replaced with the stock recovery. Note: All your installed apps and data will be removed.
The paid Flashify app offers stock recoveries.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
The easiest way to get the 5.0.1 update without losing apps or data is to download the stock, rooted rom from Scrosler found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex.../rom-factory-stock-rooted-rom-lrx22c-t2960745 , use Wugfresh's NRT 1.9.9 to update the bootloader listed in Scrosler's post, and then dirty flash (wipe Dalvik and cache if you want) the 5.0.1 rom with TWRP. Painless and fast with no loss of data or anything.
Thanks for the replies. Think I will try Flashify as it seems the easiest solution.

Can you flash Official OOS 4.0.1 N as OTA (I just flashed OTA official 4.0.1 N, did not install) on Beta 10 4.0 N without wipping system on TWRP or do you need Official TWRP and clean install?

Viperrom - Install ElementalX bootloop

I have a HTC10 - latest ViperRom 5.0 - S-off, rooted, etc. I've been running the latest Viperrom for about a week without many problems, a few FC. Also, I still can't activate advanced calling, but I can live without that for a while.
I tried to install the latest ElementalX kernel for my firmware - Verizon 1.9XXX, - after flashing it in TWRP recovery, it would bootloop.
I had to reflash the ViperRom 5.0, which includes the stock kernel to get my phone back.
Any simple ways to get ElementalX kernel installed without having to wipe everything/delete data?
Thanks,
dclauria

you are flashing a marshmallow kernel on a nougat rom...that won't work.
Not sure in what way the kernel is firmware dependent...but it is definitely rom dependant...you need the nougat elemental x kernel for our nougat rom.
the old marshmallow one won't work.
Awesomei - Thanks for the help. So then, next question - if I can locate the latest Verizon firmware, 2.XXX something, can I install that?, and then I would need to reflash VenomRom 5.0, to select the correct firmware option - correct? After which, I presume I could install the correct ElementalX kernel? Can all of this be done without completely wiping?
Thanks
