OpenVPN crashes when opening preferences - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed OpenVPN on my AFTV Stick over Apps2Fire and imported *.ovpn profile. But connection failed because I have to mark that Force option in preferences first. But I can't do that because app crashes.
Does anyone have a sollution for that or can provide me a clean config file with marked Force option? How can I import them to my AFTV after that?
Thank you!

You need to find the app that is causing it and uninstall it in market, did you install Locale?
how can I know which app did this without uninstalling all then reinstalling to find the cause? Not very efficient.
Yes I bought locale.

What he said...retrace your steps in the Market App and one by one uninstall the most recent apps until you find the culprit.

Local has been known to cause this. Uninstall it, and also any plug-ins it installed and then check your app manager.
I've got the same problem. Also installed locale.
For now I cant be bothered to uninstall. But I can access Manage Applications via Task Manager (com.futonredemption.taskmanager).
Menu > More > Manage Applications
But if you find the culprit I'd be interested to know.
It prolly is locale + meeting plug-in
But since the phone is working well, and I can manage apps through app brain, I will not take any further action.
I have the same problem and have locale installed.
Slightly annoying - hopefully they will fix it.
You know what. I realized I have locale calendar plug in installed and turns out its a paid app. I found it on the net and thought it was a free app.
So maybe because its a "cracked" app I cannot access the manage applications.

Firestick stream from NAS help

Hi;
I have set up my Firestick.
Sideloaded Kodi.
I want to be able to stream movies, etc. from the NAS to the TV and will it be possible to do it when away from home as I can do with my android phone?
When I go into setup on the stick, I see my network and then my Synology 212j NAS. I am using the windows (smb) function. When I click on the NAS, it gives me an error window. It does not connect.
I need specific directions on what to do. Is there a change on the NAS I need to make or a setting on the Firestick I need to change?
I can access the NAS from my computer, android phone, etc.
Thank you.
are u trying to add it in kodi?
firestick help
Yes. I am trying to add it into kodi. I have tried multiple ways with no success
your NAS has guest access disabled, you should add it manually in kodi.
in add video click browse, then in the list go down and add network location.
add your NAS manually in address field smb://your-nas-network-smb-name , then put the username and address and save it.
then go to the smb://your-nas and browse for your shared folders.
Firestick NAS help
Hi;
I have the amazon firestick.
I sideloaded Kodi 14.0 Helix,
It is connected on a 5G wifi with WPA2/PSK. /
I go to:
System / File manager / Add Source (A) / Browse / Scroll down to Windows network (SMB) /
When I click on it, it then shows my home workgroup, I click on it and it shows a printer, my "Diskstation, etc.
When I click on the Diskstation, I get an error pop up window that states, "Operation not permitted"
On an older laptop, on a non 5G network (because it will not see 5G), I can see the diskstation on the net work and log into it.
I'm sorry but I don't see the add video option that you mention. Any more specific path/info. would be appreciated.
Thank you for your help.
On main Kodi screen select Video then Files. Add videos. and browse to your NAS. Select NFS. You can rename it to your liking and access it the same way. Videos and Files. Don't try to add source through system.

[Q] Removed com.lge.sui.widget, bricked settings

I removed this "widget" without backup because I incorrectly assumed it was one of those widgets you put on the home screen. Anyways my settings app is bricked (I get "Unfortunately settings has stopped working" whenever trying to open settings) and after digging around on google I found removing com.lge.sui.widget is the issue.
Is there anyway I can restore this dependency? I have a stock backup on my computer that I'd rather avoid using it if possible.
Alternatively, is there any way I can change input methods without going through settings? I cannot enable any new keyboards because they require me to go through the settings > language & input service, which causes an error message whenever I try to access it directly or through my keyboard apps. However I can switch between the keyboards I currently have enabled just fine.
I found a 3rd party app that changes wifi settings without going through the settings app, is there any similar app for enabling keyboards? If there was such an app, I wouldn't need to go through settings for anything else saving me the trouble of finding this com.lge.sui.widget or reinstalling android.
My phone is LG D850 (G3)
Just flash the kdz again without the wipe option, is the only way.. I made that error in my G2 and g3
Downlod .zip file of your ROM, copy .apk to location and set its permissions. Then reboot your phone and it should work.

Firephone stock rom's strange behaviour

Hi,
I was using CM on the firephone for a while. I decided to go back to stock rom.
The stock rom do not have the firefly feature and whenever I try to open amazon app store it tells me "country settings not supported". It doesn't allow me to proceed further without changing the country settings. When I tap on the settings button it takes me to the amazon japan site where my current account for amazon.com doesn't work. I made a new account on the same email address and tried to change the country settings. But I am not able to do that as the settings only give me the option to enter an address in japan. I know how to change the country in a normal amazon account. I have tried everything. Also tried reinstalling rom from amazon official site. Nothing works. Can anybody help?
Not sure why firefly has disappeared completely from phone.
I don't know how to fix the Firefly thing, but I don't use Firefly anyway.
I have the same problem with the Amazon App Store, but you don't need the Amazon App Store. Just sideload the Google Play Store onto your device, and the Amazon App Store is garbage anyway.
You can sideload Google Play Store by following this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/general/fire-phone-how-to-install-google-play-t2977237
NOTE: Since you can't use the Amazon App Store you need to download the APK file of ES File Explorer. Click on this link, then scroll down to the versions and download the latest version. Make sure "Apps from unknown sources" is enabled in settings, you can do this by going into the settings app > Applications & Parental Controls > Prevent non-Amazon app installation, and now enable "App Installation". Now install ES File Explorer.

Backup iplayer

Hi guys,
I'm in the US and I'm trying to get both UK and US TV apps running on my shield. Iplayer and ITV hub are giving me trouble as they are system apps which are disabled when the shield detects I'm not in the the UK. I'm running a VPN/DNS on my merlin router to get the UK ip address. The general plan is:
1- Log onto the VPN, so the shield thinks I'm in the UK, and shows iplayer/ITV hub
2- Backup iplayer/ITV apk's to a data stick using x-plore
3 - On my PC, decompile the apk's using apktool and rename the packages
4 - Side load iplayer/ITV with a different name so it won't hide them when the region changes.
5 - Switch to smart DNS on the router. The shield will go to back the USA default, but hopefully the SmartDNS will route iplayer traffic through the UK
6. - Install HBO and all the other USA stuff, and done.
I'm stuck on step 2 as x-plore only shows installed apk's, and not system apks, like iplayer. Does anyone have any ideas on how back them up? Do I need to root the shield to get at them? I'd rather not root because I have read that All4 (normal android version) will not run on a rooted shield. I would prefer to use this method as I can only find older versions of iplayer on mirror sites and I'm not even sure they are for android boxes.
Thanks for any help

To alter/uninstall/backup apps that are installed as system apps you need root.
And for backup while rooted I would suggest using Titanium backup.
You can also use an app like App Cloner to clone the app with a different name.

You can yes
Use total commander apk to backup system apks
have you tried kodi with the iplayer addon
Ok so I have a lot of exp with this, if you want to use BBC iPlayer and itvhub in the USA (maybe without VPN) you can use the Kodi add-ons - which are better as they have no adverts at all! If not you can sideload the regular Android version and it will work fine probably with VPN. All4 I did not manage to get to work with root but apparently using magisk if you use the option of "changing package manager to random package name" (it's named something like this in settings) then it will work.
