Hi
I'm going to be giving my phone my Verizon Note 4 to my mother as she needs a new phone as I just upgraded and I wanted the most
stable and close to possible stock for her to use, she had a note 3 before it died.. I'm now running Emotion 7.1 rom. Phone is rooted
and unlocked.. I wouldn't mind keeping root if possible. Another question is how would I go about it just flashing with odin or twrp.

paul pizz . that waz easy. its rooted and stock 6.0.1 touchwiz marshmallow. no ports no technical options she wont understand. just the samsung basics like the way u got it. only stock samsung firmware should be installed with odin. you would use twrp 3.0.2.0. not the one hsbadr made for emotion os 7.1.1 (3.0.1n or somthing)

I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but I just wanted to make absolutely sure I'm ready before I flash, so I don't brick my phone. I have been reading the forums for a few days now. I have an S3 (i747M) with Fido. I'm not totally sure which ROM to go with. From what I understand so far, I'm thinking StockMOD or Dandroid. I want a fairly minimalistic OS, latest version (4.3 vs 4.4?), so I can play the occasion game on it and get good idle battery life. I believe I have rooted my stock rom and I have disabled some of the bloat through the "Application Management" option under settings. Any advice on flashing? I have spent many years building, modding and generally tinkering with windows pcs but I haven't done anything with phones, android or linux. Any advice? Obviously do the backup of my current phone with the app mentioned on the related ROM installation page. I assume I can restore my phone back to this stock ROM is the new one fails? After the backup, do a full phone wipe and default restore. Then hook the phone to my PC via USB and use the related program to flash the phone? Thank you for any and all replies in advance. :good:

in my opinion or anyone will say that 4.3 is the most stable right now, and 4.4 is only available for CM based roms.....Samsung Touchwiz will always be the last to update their devices to 4.4 while custom roms AOKP, SLIM BEAM, PAC ROM, BEAN STALK, CM, PARANOID, ETC they will always have nightlies on latest the Android version but will take sometime for stable roms to be released
1st before you think of flashing please research and know what you're getting into
2nd read all the info. ROOT your i747m with cf-auto root (i recommend it cuz its the simplest, easiest, safest way to root)
3rd install custom recovery there are two that i know of but am confident and comfortable with clockworkmod recovery....u can try TWRP
4th yu can either wish to stay stock touchwiz, 2types of stock
-one that comes from samsung all bloated and no tweaks and
-the one that is taken by devs debloated, modded, customized, xposed mod, minimalistic, faster and better.
--OR you can go completely Android vanilla stock, which has nothing but the normal google staff (ITS LIKE A NEXUS DEVICE from Google) you dont have any bloatware, or features/addons just plain stock
5th Once yu know the basic, the universe is yours, with Android comes endless customization and possibilities just like Microsoft Windows, Linux, ubuntu or even OSX
6th wish to become a DEV its your choice, wish to modify, play with the filesystem its your choice but without knowledge of what you're doing bricking is easy as just deleting a file yu think its not important
7th help the rest with android as you do with PC
PS am learning to code now but one thing at a time so am starting with Web design, plan to learn some computer languages, hacking, etc computer science  maybe yu can help me out
everything you need to know about what i said or root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725839
Thanks for the reply. It's been a while since I originally posted this. I decided to hold off on a custom ROM at that time but I find myself back again, still wanting to customize my phone (especially now that my contract is about to expire). I figure that if I do brick my phone beyond repair, I'll just get another phone anyways so not so worried about it now.
Anyways, one concern I have about flashing a custom ROM on my S3 is can I go backwards in Android versions? I can confirm that I am running the stock (Rogers / Fido) Android 4.4.2 which I believe is Kitkat? I am very interested in going either StockMOD or Dandroid, which as far as I can tell are 4.3 Jellybean? Can I do that?
Yes, you can run a 4.3 rom on your phone as long as you do not try to downgrade the bootloader.
You can go back to completely stock Rogers by using Odin to flash as stock kk rom from sammobile.com.

Thanks for the reply. Regarding the bootloader, the versions of Android I'm looking to install say they need the 4.3 bootloader. How can I check which bootloader I am running on my phone?
If you're phone is running stock Rogers kit kit, you have a kit kat bootloader which you can't downgrade.
If the rom needs a 4.3 bootloader and since you have a newer bootloader, you can probably load the rom.

Using the most recent build of the most popular ROM has it's advantages.
cm-12.1-20150807-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip
fast, light, stable, secure, supported

thats if you dont mind upgrading to the new bootloader, which you cant downgrade from.
as for me, i am still trying to read up the pros and cons before i jump to the kitkat bootloader.
I don't see any draw-backs to upgrading the bootloader and modem, and did it about a month ago or so. The only down-side is that you can't go back to 4.3 roms.
Odin to stock, accept OTA, and then you can reroot and be on your way!

Are you getting bad battery life? Seems like there are some people who wants to go back to 4.3 because of battery life

Nope, I get better battery life it seems.
Before anybody reads this and tries to update the bootloader, be aware that you could end up with a hard brick. Happened to me & Samsung fixed it by replacing the board but it was not worth it since the 4.4.2 bootloader offers zero benefits over the old one and wasted 2 weeks waiting for it to get back. Maybe if you're stuck on Jizzer roms and got ants in your pants for the 4.4 update then I wish you best luck in your update quest.
Back on BeanStalk and I won't be doing any more bootloader updates on this N900T.
I'm running 4.2.2 on my 10.1 and it is rooted.
It was done long ago and I really do not need the device being rooted anymore.
Not sure how to unroot it so I can upgrade to 4.42.
It might have been posted but I couldn't find it.
Help appreciated.

Beware that some of us believe that upgrading to 4.4.2 via OTA or Kies or installing Stock 4.4.2 as they come is unsafe!!!
New stock 4.4.2 comes with new bootloaders!!
So for us the safest way to upgrade is use one of the many Rom develop in our forrum. Yes I understand many think the opposite, safest is to stick with Samsung Stock as it come from factory. It is up to you.
A few had claim that after you go back to 4.2.2 Official Stock, their programing counter had clear and they in fact go OTA or Kies to upgrade to 4.4.2. Personally I do not know. I do not use Kies.
But here is an example of such Claim:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 > Galaxy Tab 3 General > KitKat Update official for GT-P5210 available => http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3/general/kitkat-update-official-gt-p5210-t2871073
Good luck with your upgrade, I hope nothing happens with those new bootloaders in the future. Who knows maybe you will not be able to clear your counter again! I do not know I am just kidding.
Thanks, that worked, now I am on 4.4.2.
Just a crazy question, what if I want to go back to 4.2.2, can it be done?

You have not said what type of TAB3 10 you have. 3G, wifi or 4G. Nor said what procedure you follow. Ota, Kies or one of the roms develop here.
I do not know if installing 4.4.2 with OTA or Kies can prevent you to go back.
In my case I use 4.4.2 Pimpdroid 3Beta. I found it smooth and nice. But I got upset with 4.4.2 limitations and went back to 4.2.2 with stock 4.2.2. Without any problems.

I have 10.1 tab 3 wifi only, i was rooted in 4.2.2, installed a stock rom of 4.2.2 via odin, after i received an autoupdate via OTA to 4.4.2
So I have a new phone coming in on Wednesday and I plan on giving this S3 to my mom. Switching from Blackberry to Android is a big enough jump for her, so I'm sure she won't understand on how to work this ROM. Also, she plans on taking both our phones to Tmobile so they can transfer contacts. How can I downgrade back to stock ROM without bricking my phone? Please help! Thanks in advance.
To flash back to stock, download your current firmware, or latest firmware and flash with Odin.
Hi y'all,
It's been ages since I have messed around with my device! So I need some lessons.........
I have a Verizon Samsung Note 4 currently on HAVOC ROM with Android 9 and N910VVRS2CQE1. I want to downgrade to KitKat 4.4.4 STOCK.
1. Do I need to downgrade the BL also?
2. Is this all going to happen through ODIN or is there a stock image I can flash through TWRP without much fuss?
3. A little hand holding would be appreciated !
I have searched for days here and Google. XDA 's new search is a little tough to get used to.
