My bad! I'm extremely sorry and i respect you a lot as I updated to nougat via your thread. I moved to a different country and couldn't update, now I can because of you. These links are for people who don't want to download via mega or other links where you just pay for a larger file. All of the above links are from google, Dropbox or mega for small files. Odin is easier but links are hard to find for free safe download. I also expected people to back up before posing this and I kinda misguided them by saying it won't wipe. Sorry for any inconvienece caused

THIS WILL WIPE EVERYTHING SO BACK UP BEFORE HAND AND REMOVE ALL SECURITY LIKE FINGERPRINTS AND SCREEN LOCK
- Download your desired file
- Make sure you have adb and fastboot setup (If not there are many YouTube videos for mac or pc)
- Copy the downloaded file and paste it in the same folder as the adb and fastboot
- Open terminal or command prompt (Press shift and click on "Open using command prompt on pc")
- Go to settings on your phone -> about device-> click on build number 7 times to enable dev options-> enable adb debugging and accept the computer.
- type " adb devices" (pc) or "./adb devices" (Mac) to check if device is connected. You will get a code and it will say adb.
- Put phone into recovery by powering off and holding volume up, home button and power or just type adb reboot recovery in command prompt while on.
- Wait for android guy to go away and menu to pop up. Use volume keys and select adb sideload.
- now type = adb sideload "file name" and press enter. (PC) ./adb sideload "file name" (Mac).
- Wait for installation and it will reboot. (Enjoy)
For confusion free flashing, delete that used file from the directory and paste the next adb file for less confusion.

The furthest I've updated is to full PH4, I could actually OTA update all the way up. So to me I'm interested in OTA Packages.
Especially since no one apparently has a real copy of the PJ1 bootloader for some reason. Makes me feel like there is something special about it.
I'm not trying to update to anything past PJ1 right now, because we haven't figured a way to downgrade binary 4 to Binary 3 firmware yet. I can still attain root by being able to flash binary 2 firmware to my binary 3 device.

You need an officially signed update package and not a modified one if you're going to use stock recovery. Unless you want to help us decode the signature block embedded in the footer.
My device is non rooted, and yes, i tried the adb to flash from CPHA to CPJ1 and it said like that.. E: wrong etc... ouw i see.. maybe the CPJ1 is corrupted? I have tried it from 3 different secured sources, and all 3 came with the same problem..
Are you currently on the PHA build when you try to flash that update from PHA to PJ1?
Many people don't seem to get that is why I ask. Each updated build has a specific hash generated for it that the small OTA Packages use when they get to the point where applypatch, patches the on device files.

i just wonder is there any ODIN software version that can flash the new JB update. here's my phone information :
BASEBAND : I9250XXLA2 , BUILD NUMBER: IMM76K.19250XWLD2.Android version: 4.0.4 . I used to go to www.sammobile.com for samsung firmware update and flash using ODIN for my previous android galaxy phone, but i cant find any version of ODIN that works to flash the JB. anybody have the answer? thanks in advance.
No one has packaged it up for Odin yet, because there hasn't been a need. We have a Nexus device, which means that we can use fastboot, which is just as easy as Odin, but safer than Odin.

Like Efrant said, use Fastboot. Don't mess with Odin there's no need.

Yes it requires the command line. Its extremely safe if you're capable of looking at a guide and copy/pasting commands.

Follow the steps in the "flash" link in my signature to flash takju imm76i, then follow the steps in the update" link to go to 4.1.1 from 4.0.4.
It may seem complicated, but it is really not.
I don't recommend using a toolkit -- you won't likely learn anything at all.

thanks guys. i will try to use the command line 1st. and if its too confusing,i will use the toolkit. so i have to root my nexus 1st and install custom boot recovery? which means the download mode will be replaced by other custom boot recovery? if i do that, will my phone receive OTA via google next time? or do i have to recover back to its original state? im so noob at this..
thanks efrant i have click link given. it really helped. i will follow the steps. i would press 1000x thanks button for both of you guys but it seems that i can't..lol

fastboot is the standard way of flashing for Nexus devices, it can be considered safer than ODIN, the instruction is in the sticky of this Q&A section.

Open the folder, right-click in the folder and select "Open Command Prompt Here" or what ever it is. Or just go to Start->Run and type cmd.exe in the box. Then navigate to your directory by typing cd name-of-directory. For example, if your files are in C:\junk, type cd junk
The prompt should then be C:\junk

That is an adb shell running under superuser on your tablet. There may be some script it wants you to run on the tablet. I personally am using CWM so I don't know all that much about TWRP (I didn't even put CWM on mine, I had a friend come over and help with that). So I know what that is but not why you have it or what you should do with it. Sorry.

Because nobody reads anything anymore. They just piecemeal together instructions from other devices and what they think will work and then cry and complain when it doesn't when they didn't follow instructions in the first place.
I will admit I did work all day and picked the v500 up the same day and just wanted to go home and have it just gel. Stayed up really late trying to put pieces together but for people unfamiliar with command prompts and such the "easy" methods can just come off as foreign. I used this post as a last resort. I appreciate people who create one click methods but if it wasn't for newbs then what would be the point of them at all? A guy has to start somewhere and learn as he goes.

I'm not sure what you want at this point. Did you go to the TWRP thread in the Original Android Development subforum? If so, find the link for TWRP 2.6.3.2 and download it to your PC. Move the file to your G Pad. Download the Flashify app from the Play Store. Open the app, and navigate to "Flash Recovery". Navigate to the file that you downloaded and flash it. That's it. And if you have more questions, ask them in the TWRP thread.
P.S., before you make any other significant changes to your device, please read through the forum. You'll save yourself some serious future pain.

I followed your instructions exactly, and still no luck -- same reboot error. Any other ideas, or should I try the adb method instead?
thanks!

I've got the same issue. Is there any way to get this done
I have version v500d20. The twrp.lok mentioned in the threads are only for versions v500a10 b,c,e. So no d and no 20. Could this be the problem?

a little off topic but any help would be helpful .
i tried this method but it keeps giving me :
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
installation aborted.
i tried re-downloading the ota file 3 times... same result.
device isn't rooted and never was. stock recovery.
any suggestion ?

Guess you need to turn off signature verification in recovery (does stock have it)? I will flash my Nexus 7 2013 as well soon and can let you know.
---edit: Just downloaded the OTA file and sideloaded my Nexus 7 2013 without problem. No issue with signature verification (my N7 is all stock though and no root). I just followed the steps above.

thanks mate.
i understood that this method works at least for the majority.
but it doesn't work for me, as i mention everything on my device is stock.
i always did OTA updates (whenever my device got them).
but now i wanted to do a manual try... no luck .
if you or anybody else has a clue to why it's keep failing on my device would be great.
thanks again

So yeah, I updated to a Dev build about a month ago so I could mess around with it. Slightly buggy though (Google keyboard has totally crapped out on me now) so I'm anxiously awaiting the public release.
Is it a simple update affair or have I gotta do a restore?

If you decide to wait for the OTA, remember that Google releases OTAs gradually over a couple of weeks.

ENG = engineering kernel. It's an insecure development kernel leaked by someone on the inside. FWIW, I'm passing on this one.
Can we get a bump? vikes4life how is it? Do you have su working?
The eng.sboot works and i'll be able to get su working using this methol( http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-...-snag-t3334546 ) posted by metalcated. However, it just a tether root for me to unlock or read/write cert. By any change, someone has a stock firmware for PB2 baseband or a stock system.img please post. Thanks

How'd you do it?
Credit goes to @Michael3214. He described a way to achieve root with root apps working on our ATT note 5 with lollipop. Check it out here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-note5/general/root-files-t3328432
Description
This toolkit is an integrated pack tool for Zenfone 5 base on latest kitkat SKU WW 2.22.40.540. All file is come from the original firmware. None of them modified. So it wont harm your phone. Do not change any single file inside or the script will not run.
For Lollipop version check here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-5/general/zenfonetoolkit3-24-40-87-t3406557
How to run
Just extract to any folder and run Zenfone_Toolkit_2.22.40.540.exe then select what you need to do. We know almost all of selected choice do. I wont explain everything here.
Menu Selected Tool as seen on attachment
1. Wipe Cache
2. Factory Reset
3. Flash Boot
4. Flash Recovery
5. Flash Fastboot
6. Flash Stock ROM
This is the flashable stock ROM Pre-root 2.22.40.540 with SuperSU v2.65. Backup your data first before select this tool, because the script will erase all incl your data before flash system.img
7. Root
8. Unroot
9. Unlock Bootloader
10. Relock Bootloader
11. Zenfone Rescue aka Debrick
12. Fixing Generic IMEI 004999010640000
13. Backup MicroSD
14. Flash ryanjms07 Kernel
15. Install Intel Android USB, ISocUSB and Asus PClink
Credit :
1. @shakalaca aka Shaka Huang for root, unroot, unlock and relock bootloader.
2. @ryanjms07 for Kernel Kitkat.
3. @X AnwarMov for twrp 3.0
Download
Zenfone Toolkit Kitkat
Next Revision
Adding some extra feature on menu.
Updating SuperSU v2.76, DT2W, enable RW MicroSD, Xposed, Busybox v1.241

Hello, I have a common problem with my devise being not the only one connected to PC/emulated.
"Error: more than one device/emulator" - I have an additional offline emulator and i cant track what created it.
I was able to correct this issue by adding
adb -s (dev. serial) wait-for-devices
adb -s (dev. serial) reboot bootloader
(or "-d" if there is only one physical device)
In .bat files in similar programs, but this package is a bit too complicated for me and i am not sure how and where to correct this. Any advice?

i write the script using new adb platform 1.035. The script will still running on the background even you close the window. You need to choose menu EXIT when you done.
For me v1.035 more better than v1.032.
Every menu already test and work very well
