you can get ota .zip from this article
there is a video also here which you can check.
Simple steps:
1. download the ota .zip file
2. copy this file to your adb platform-tools folder
3. reboot your device to recovery mode choose sideload option from the menu
4. connect your device to pc
5. from platform-tools folder open command prompt and type: adb sideload <zip file name with extension> and enter
6. sit back and wait for system to update and reboot.

Guess you need to turn off signature verification in recovery (does stock have it)? I will flash my Nexus 7 2013 as well soon and can let you know.
---edit: Just downloaded the OTA file and sideloaded my Nexus 7 2013 without problem. No issue with signature verification (my N7 is all stock though and no root). I just followed the steps above.

thanks mate.
i understood that this method works at least for the majority.
but it doesn't work for me, as i mention everything on my device is stock.
i always did OTA updates (whenever my device got them).
but now i wanted to do a manual try... no luck .
if you or anybody else has a clue to why it's keep failing on my device would be great.
thanks again

I started doing the Google framework force stop and clear cache today while on wifi and was prompted after 5 or 6 tries. It downloaded, verified download, rebooted and TRIED to install. About 15% through, it said untrusted zip and cwm screen popped up top and asked 'install untrusted zip?' Of course I hit yes.. why isn't it trusted? Its straight from the carrier. Anyway it immediately said installation aborted. I repeated this process again and got the same results. Please someone help. Now that JB is finally here my phone won't take it???

If you have CWM flashed, you have to manually flash the update -- it won't install over-the-air. If you want to install it over-the-air, flash back the stock recovery then accept the update.

Gnex Toolkit wasn't working because of some missing file... re-installed it and flashed the stock recovery via Gnex Toolkit (I think). Is there a way to check which recovery is running? Anyway, if it is indeed stock, I just got prompted again for the OTA JB update.. it's installing now.... fingers crossed!!!
..OK so now it rebooted... started installing, got about halfway through.. paused, then it went to the stock recovery screen and stayed with a red triangle around an exclamation point! What is happening here?!
I have now re-locked the bootloader and received the prompt for OTA again....
Still won't work for me. I've tried even flashing the stock image and it won't install at all. Actually nothing is installing.
I've never done anything to the phone besides unlocking the BL and rooting and switching to CWM. It seems to have something to do with the SD mount.. nut then again I have no idea.
Where's all the Android gurus at?

I just got my new Nexus 7 2013 and was following to the T the rooting instructions provided by Philos64. I somehow ended up after installing TWRP with a stuck screen on the X. I tried to do a factory reset in TWRP, but my format fails. What are my options? Please help! This is the first time I have soft bricked any device I have rooted. I have the LTE version of this tablet.
I'd try to flash a ROM through TWRP. Although IDK if there are any LTE ones available.
Otherwise might have to go back and download and install a factory image.

Rooting is just flashing a zip file in your recovery. Don't know how much easier it can get.
I just updated my NEXUS 7 2013 from 4.4 to 4.4.2 but after restarting, the Android version in settings still says 4.4.

I also tried updating manually using TWRP zip update but it failed.

Hope someone can help me find a solution for this. Thanks!

Thanks a ton - I thought I was going to have to do something a hell of a lot more time-consuming than a sideload.
And for some reason, TWRP isn't letting me sideload. ADB won't detect the tablet to allow it.
EDIT: Nevermind - evidently it was something very recent that got messed up - I returned to the backup I made after getting 4.4.1 loaded, and it flashed without issue. Yay.

You need to take the device back completely to stock for the update to work.
Wugs Toolkit is an incredible tool to do so.
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
No, that will mean loss of time. If you use wug toolkit you can extract system.img from stock image and then flash it on your device, so that you won't have to erase anything. Anyway if debuggerd zip worked there's no need to do anything else

I got android 5.0.1 system update via ota but it doesn't installs i tried installing it in different recoveries but all the recoveries are showing the same

This user device has 4.4.2 KOT49H
Installation aborted.)
But i have 4.4.4 KTU84P only

Going back to stock recovery won't help. I never flash custom recovery, I only root, and 5.0.1 OTA doesn't work for me. I've seen it stated in several threads that you only need to go back to stock recovery but this is not correct, you need to have 100% un-tampered stock.

Happy, happy - I had the same trouble on my tablet, until I followed these instructions.
I couldn't update mine from its installed 5.0 factory (stock) image to 5.0.1. The OTA alert was there on my screen, but failed every time it loaded ("Error" under the little android dude). ADB Sideload on the stock recovery would fail with the "Status 7" error. Installing TWRP didn't help, either - when I tried to Sideload it from TWRP advanced section, it just said "Cannot read command" and would terminate.
I followed the instructions above, and it worked first try. I don't know what was holding it back - perhaps too many SU apps or maybe I did too many SuperSU updates? Obviously, something had corrupted the system files. No clue... I didn't lose any data or settings. I had to re-root, of course, but CF-Root makes that an easy business.
Cheers! Good luck :victory:

I think the easiest way to get the 5.0.1 update without losing apps or data is to download the stock, rooted rom from Scrosler found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex.../rom-factory-stock-rooted-rom-lrx22c-t2960745 , use Wugfresh's NRT 1.9.9 to update the bootloader listed in Scrosler's post, and then dirty flash (wipe Dalvik and cache if you want) the 5.0.1 rom using TWRP. Painless and fast with no loss of data or anything.

My bad! I'm extremely sorry and i respect you a lot as I updated to nougat via your thread. I moved to a different country and couldn't update, now I can because of you. These links are for people who don't want to download via mega or other links where you just pay for a larger file. All of the above links are from google, Dropbox or mega for small files. Odin is easier but links are hard to find for free safe download. I also expected people to back up before posing this and I kinda misguided them by saying it won't wipe. Sorry for any inconvienece caused

THIS WILL WIPE EVERYTHING SO BACK UP BEFORE HAND AND REMOVE ALL SECURITY LIKE FINGERPRINTS AND SCREEN LOCK
- Download your desired file
- Make sure you have adb and fastboot setup (If not there are many YouTube videos for mac or pc)
- Copy the downloaded file and paste it in the same folder as the adb and fastboot
- Open terminal or command prompt (Press shift and click on "Open using command prompt on pc")
- Go to settings on your phone -> about device-> click on build number 7 times to enable dev options-> enable adb debugging and accept the computer.
- type " adb devices" (pc) or "./adb devices" (Mac) to check if device is connected. You will get a code and it will say adb.
- Put phone into recovery by powering off and holding volume up, home button and power or just type adb reboot recovery in command prompt while on.
- Wait for android guy to go away and menu to pop up. Use volume keys and select adb sideload.
- now type = adb sideload "file name" and press enter. (PC) ./adb sideload "file name" (Mac).
- Wait for installation and it will reboot. (Enjoy)
For confusion free flashing, delete that used file from the directory and paste the next adb file for less confusion.

Is the file in the same folder as adb and fastboot? If yes, re download the file and try again or re install the drivers.

Would the update from PHA to PJ1 happen to include a non-corrupt version of the elusive PJ1 sboot.bin?
That would be amazing.

The furthest I've updated is to full PH4, I could actually OTA update all the way up. So to me I'm interested in OTA Packages.
Especially since no one apparently has a real copy of the PJ1 bootloader for some reason. Makes me feel like there is something special about it.
I'm not trying to update to anything past PJ1 right now, because we haven't figured a way to downgrade binary 4 to Binary 3 firmware yet. I can still attain root by being able to flash binary 2 firmware to my binary 3 device.

You need an officially signed update package and not a modified one if you're going to use stock recovery. Unless you want to help us decode the signature block embedded in the footer.
My device is non rooted, and yes, i tried the adb to flash from CPHA to CPJ1 and it said like that.. E: wrong etc... ouw i see.. maybe the CPJ1 is corrupted? I have tried it from 3 different secured sources, and all 3 came with the same problem..
Are you currently on the PHA build when you try to flash that update from PHA to PJ1?
Many people don't seem to get that is why I ask. Each updated build has a specific hash generated for it that the small OTA Packages use when they get to the point where applypatch, patches the on device files.
