Have you read through the readme thread? One of your previous posts referenced ODIN, which is a Samsung tool. If you've read through the readme thread we will have a common foundation of understanding - and you may discover the solution to your problem there.
It sounds like you need to flash a RUU to your phone. The pre-requisites and guide to doing so are laid out in the readme thread. If you have any questions after reading through it, please post them here and we'll help out as best we can.
i am sorry for asking so much. But in order to flash a RUU it says that you need a rooted device. How i am gonna root my device since i cant connect it to my pc?

Which RUU are you exactly trying to flash (link it please)? What's your current firmware version? Have you checked the MD5 checksum of the downloaded file? What's the size of the SD card you're using? What's its format?

i followed the guide its 32 giga exfat. My firmware is 3.35.401.12 and i am trying to install this one https://pa1.androidfilehost.com/dl/...1_U11440792_97.00.51203G_F_release_signed.zip
That RUU got successfully flashed by S-ON users in the past and it's the correct one for your current firmware. So either the file got corrupted during the download (you didn't mention whether the MD5 checksum matched) or your SD card is broken.

sorry for not responding.today i had my day off and tried once again to fix the phone and Ruu is working. It was the cable i went and bought a new genuine one.Atm the phone is blank from Os when ill turn it on it will automatically take me to the bootloader.I tried to run a ruu.exe but i got a 155 error saying i am using the wrong ruu.I locked the bootloader using oem lock to try if that was the problem but aparrently it wassnt. the phone was from Europe and was working with differents sims in greece and uk so i assume its unlocked.Cant i just install a the stock rom with twrp?
I actually won't answer in this thread, anymore. You already got told to read the ReadMe thread and to follow its instructions. That thread clearly explains how to find the correct RUU and how to flash it. Besides, it tells you not to (re-)lock the bootloader and why you shouldn't do so.
If you ignore all these information and prefer to try out wrong RUUs and to relock your bootloader then there's nothing I can do for you.

Hi guys,
I own a Fastweb branded desire and back key isn't working anymore.
So I'm tring to restore the branded official rom for warranty.
I got s-off and root and my gold card is in.
I've flashed the old modaco r6 rom to avoid main version is older and flashed downgrade hboot(alpharev) too.
When I start the ruu hboot 0.75 and old radio are flashed properly, but I still have custom splash and cwm recovery also system is untouched.
Ruu stops with error 140 bootloader problem.
I'm still able to flash custom roms and I can s-off again, but I really don't know what to do.
Any help?
Thanks.
Best regards.

Sorry mate, is there a way to change section?
jussy,
I had exactly the same problem so I'll answer even tho this is the wrong thread. You have to start first by extracting the zip file from the RUU. Run the RUU until it gets to the first screen then leave it there (don't close it).
Go to Start -> Run and type %temp%.
Find the temporary folder folder that's just been created (sort based on date) and find a file called 'rom.zip'. Copy this file into another location and close the RUU.

Thanks for replay.
I've extracted rom.zip and renamed to PB99IMG.zip. tried to flash it in fastboot.
Flash process start but stops before finishing leave me in the same situation as before. If I want to flash it again gives me main version is older.
I've s-off it 10 times today and made many try.
EDIT: I've also tried to flash via fastboot commander the .img files in rom.zip but after that I could only access fastboot.
Now I've flash a generic ruu to make it boot.
Tbh mate I'm not sure how to change it lol.. mayb delete and repost in q&a..

Dude, don't flash the zip, just put it in the root of your SD, then switch phone off, hold vol down button and reboot into recovery, your phone will recognize the pb99img.zip and some options should come up. Follow the on screen instructions and you should be unrooted in 15 mins max.

Sorry for my bad english but what you said is what I've done.
1-root and s-off.
2-flash downgrade hboot(alpharev).
3-put PB99IMG.zip (extract as said from my branded ruu) on sd card root.
4-boot power + vol down.
5-It starts, step 1 goes well then at the end of step 2 screen became black and came back with 0.75 hboot s-on and if I try again it gives me main version is older.
So I can only reboot, reflash a rom and s-off it again.
Never ending loop...
Thanks anyway.

I've got my gold card already in.
Sadly there's only one ruu for my carrier.
I can flash a generic froyo ruu but it's not good for warranty.
I can't really help in terms of your issue.
If I remember right, I booted into the bootloader and switched on fastboot, then ran the RUU EXE making sure my phone was connected to my pc.
It eventually came right.
Saying that, after I got the stock ROM back on, my phone went ape (and to this day I have no idea why). Random restarts. Freezing. It was crazy. I had to upgrade the RUU for it to stay on properly. Was really weird.
There are so many threads about rooting for warrantee purposes, perhaps search them or go through thier instructions, cause I'm sure someone may have had the same issue.
Wish I could help you though.

I'm facing problem with 1.15=>1.21 OTA, installation is aborted due to status 7 (if some one can help I'll post the full error message).
Unfortunetly the ruu I've used is the only one from my carrier.
Will they know that my phone was updated by them and I'll lose my warranty?
Any idea about fixing status 7?

You'd need to find the original RUU for whatever CID your phone is and flash that onto the handset and then relock it.
There's a thread around here somewhere, try the search bar

I'm actually curious on this too, mainly for the sake of getting the OTA update and making sure it updates everything that fastboot flashing cannot, such as the HBOOT.
So it's not possible to simply install a stock ROM and just reflash the original recovery to have the OTA install?
You mean this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807 ?
Could someone tell me a easy way to unroot and flash ruu on it?
On the tread i post above, I can´t download the ruu. It says its more than 500 mb and I need a premium account.
So is there a other way to unlock and unroot en put the original software on the one x?
Try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZuAjz4PIjU
It did work for me, i guess i downloaded the ruu a couple of monthes ago.

just download, connect your phone to your computer with a USB cord, set it to "debugging mode" and "charge only" and run the .exe file

Hi! i am also having problems with my HOX im running the Cyanogenmod10 Endeavoru with Android 4.2.1 on my one X and it has caused me nothing but trouble. i tried to do the RUU thing and flash everything back to stock but i keep getting the ERROR 171 USB Connection Error. and i tried to do some research here more on the forums and i got confused if i can flash back to stock rom with 4.2.1 or not? because i saw some threads saying that it was very impossible and i don't want to go to the Service Centers to void my warranty and such. Can someone please help me on this please? i really want to get everything working back on my HOX and get the OTA Jellybean.
Hi guys,
This is my first thread here in XDA, so, forgive me by a possible mistake.
I recently bought a HOX, the seller said that is the international version.
I'm in 4.0.3, with software version 1.29.707.11 (already checked for updates, but phone says its up to date)
So, sometimes when i turn my wifi on, he doesn't connect in my network (already saved), i go to wifi settings, put to scan, and, aparently, the phone don't scan the networks and doesn't found my network too.
Obviously, im on the range of the network, and don't have that factory problem with bad wifi signal.
And, sometimes too, phone takes a lot of time to get carrier signal, so i turn on plane mode, then turn off, and finally get carrier signal.
My question is: is this normal? What can i try to fix it? (Thinked on a factory reset)
I don't tried anything yet.
If anyone could help, i'll appreciate and if the thread is on the wrong place, please move it

The difference is that it will reflash the ROM from scratch, it's the first thing HTC do when you take your phone for repair. It's very safe (when flashed with decent remaining battery) and very thorough.
Check the Shipped ROM sticky in the development section.
I am searching about the Rom Update Utility, but i'm not finding a good tutorial to follow, explaining the whole process.
If anyone could help me in the process
Edit:
Thanks again Pope! I'll look in dev section
You just have to charge the phone, put the phone in fastboot mode (hold down the volume down key when switching on the phone, then navigate from there), plug phone into Windows PC and double click RUU.
You may want to do an "adb backup" (you'll have search for this) beforehand, flash RUU, test and then restore.

Don't need a backup, i got the phone 2 days ago hehehe
My HOX is totally clean.
No unlocked bootloader, no root.
This will not be a problem doing the flash with the stock RUU right?

Ben sorry for tons of questions hehe
I'm reading a tutorial, and on it said that i need my CID number, in order to download the correct RUU file for the correct region of my HOX. How can i know if this RUU you posted is the correct for my HOX?
I've tried to get my CID number (downloaded the fastboot flasher tool) but when i put the cid command he returns: CID > None lol
I Know that my HOX is from Shangai (has a SH in serial number) and got my MID number.
So, i just need to know which file i need to download, the right one of course hehehe
If i will need the CID to know, i'll ask for the files for fastboot commands (i don't found them)
If not, just confirm the link you posted ealier if its the correct RUU for my case.
PS.: This link posted is only for premium users, and i don't have a premium acc, can you provide in another mirror?
You can't flash the wrong RUU, the phone won't let you.
You don't need your CID as you are not unlocked, knowing that you are 1.29.707.x is enough. It's the right RUU.
I'm sure you don't need me to hold your hand whilst you use google to find that file somewhere else. The sticky dev thread I previously mentioned will likely have a ton of mirrors for the file.
So.. i'll look fot the file in other places.
Today, i've connected in my wifi network, and the phone says there's an update...
It's the same update announced days ago, but in my case with a different update number...
Phone has been upgraded to ICS 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1.
If the problems persist, i will flash the RUU anyway, but, because of this update, nothing changes right? The RUU file you posted still valid for my HOX?
Not any more, you've updated your hboot, so you'll need an updated RUU (you can't install on older hboot, packaged with an older RUU).

Hello,
I wanted to install the newest nightly update. But when I tap "Install" it says "Unable to restart to recovery". Ive got a few questions here:
What causes this and why doesnt the errormessage explain itself?
Can I apply the update myself somehow (Where is it located and how can I apply it)?
Greetings,

Did I say anything about that? You assumed that and simply insulted me.
Of course I know how to get there. I did that several times for installing and trying out stuff. But how should I know that I can simply go there and apply the update by selecting it and chosing install. I asked for that information and you didnt gave it to me, instead you where insultive. Had a bad day or what?
can you boot in Recovery via adb (adb reboot recovery)
Have same issue. The other day I tried to go from viperone 3.5, s off, unlocked/rooted, twrp installed 3.0.
After the installation attempt using clean install, got stuck in a bootloop. Finally was able to install a stock rom 5.0 using ruu. S off, unlocked
Now I cannot log into recovery.. I get that splsh screen with red waning text below but the top section in red says cannot load recovery. I tried a few reasons over the last few days, trying fastboot/adb but can not load twrp. Tried everything from 2.8xxx to 3.xxx.
cid is 11111111.
Also tried some other ruu's but says its not for my device, but it is. Unlocked, m9, hima
scratching my head here, I must be missing something

If had read anything to do with installing ANY rom it will have detailed instructions on how to install it, usually it will tell you how to get to recovery too. Even if it doesn't tell you how to get to recovery it is a google search away.
Spoon feeding is a no-no. You must try to solve issues yourself before asking and refer to the forum for "obtuse" issues.
As for the detailed output of why it failed, usually you get some sort of error code or phrase as to why. If not then you have to start looking into logcat. You will notice that it failed to boot to recovery so manually doing it will resolve that, then you just follow whatever guide you were using after that step..
I understand that things can get overwhelming when flashing devices but it is all part of the learning curve and knowing how to navigate your device is essential before even considering changing anything.
Further more, I didn't insult you. I didn't intend to. It was an honest opinion because if you don't do the basics you WILL "become a cropper", you'll probably brick your device.
Back to basics is my advice before you proceed to mess with ANY device.

Yup, missing the cid is supercid. No longer valid. Cid and mid must match the firmware you're trying to install.
The bigger issue is not being able to get to recovery at all... Will it go to download mode?.
Obviously you've read flippy's thread and sneakyghosts thread?

Yes those threads brought me back from a soft brick....
I remember back when I first rooted and installed viper there has to be a way to change the cid, isnt there?

No honestly, I re read everything and t is right there, no question and it is appreciated. I was just concentrating on how to get back to a version of TWRP. Finally I was able to do that and still unlocked, S Off and have a TWRP 2.7 but every time I try to go higher I get the cannot boot recovery in the red letters. My bottom line was to install a 7.1.x rom. That is what caused all my original issue, tried to update into 7.1.1 RR Rom and everything crashed. I used a RUU you have in that thread (THANK YOU) and was able to get out of bootloop on RR bootanimation. I am running on stock 5.x, rooted as well.
Is there anyway to still move forward? Do I need to change the CID to match the firmware I choose within the device choices?
Thanks for all your earlier posts and it has become invaluable and thanks for any advice going forward.: good:
TWRP versions above 3.x require your M9 to be at least using firmware 3.x. The same applies to android 6/7 based roms. Either restore the correct CID for your SKU, flash the latest available 3.x RUU for that SKU and then install all missing updates via the software update function of the stock rom or restore the correct CID and look for a full-wipe firmware pack in Sneakyghost's firmware thread (located in the development section). Be aware that his packs don't contain a rom but that shouldn't be a problem at all if you want to install RR, anyway.

I've tried using ruu. Keep getting error 132. Tried it in bootloader, download and recovery.
Please search for the key word "encryption key" in that post or read the post with the common RUU errors.

Thanks guys. Any chance y'all know if the firmware can be flashed with TWRP?
RUUs can't get flashed via TWRP. However, there are several flashing methods explained in the RUU section.

What about firmware? Those can be flashed with twrp, right?
Not really. TWRP doesn't have access to the partitions that would be needed to be overwritten. TWRP only has access to the system, the recovery partition and the boot partition. You might want to read the article that is linked as "the difference between rom and firmware" in the further reading section.
Once I have the firmware extracted, could I use adb to flash the firmware?
No, since ADB only works if the phone is booted to modes in which it won't accept the firmware files (the system or the recovery mode).
Why don't you keep things simple and use an OTA?

Ota keeps giving me an error saying my phone has been modified and ruu keeps giving me error 132 in both download and bootloader modes.
As written before, that error 132 occurs due to the new encryption keys.
You need to flash the RUU for your current firmware or to restore an "untouched" TWRP backup of that version and then you can take the OTA.

How am I supposed to ruu when it keeps giving me errors?
The newer 4.x RUU uses different encryption keys than your phone. You need to flash the RUU for your current firmware.

I know that. I keep asking for the ruu for my firmware but jeep getting the runaround instead of what I'm asking for.
That's what I'm running. Which ruu do I need?

Really? Then, maybe you have to read rules FIRST instead of getting the runaround. And then read as well the ReadMe Thread (as already warned you).

Did I understand wrong or this seems like an order?
I've read the Readme a dozen times. Replied to the Readme asking questions. Nobody can give me a straight answer. How hard is it to tell me which file I need so I don't have to download every single file in the forum soft bricking my phone over and over again? All I'm asking is which file I need given my firmware. Which I've posted screenshots of.
help!
Okay, before any of you start. Yes I've read the forum Readme. Yes, I've read the rules. I've asked this question at least a dozen times on multiple threads and absolutely nobody can give me a straight answer telling me to read the readme/rules. And it's really getting frustrating. So here's my question one more time. How do I update my phone to nougat? Yes I've tried ruu in both download mode AND in bootloader mode AND in recovery mode in all 3 modes, I get error 132. Yes, I tried Ota update through phone settings and keep getting an error saying the my phone has been modified. Here are screenshots of my software info.

And in which of your posts did you mention your current firmware? You didn't even mention which version of the phone you own before 01:03 (MET), today. The fact that you get errors while trying to install OTAs gets mentioned the first time at 23:06 (MET), yesterday. We don't own crystal balls. How are we suposed to know these things?

You obviously didn't read a single guide in the RUU section. They all start with the same step:
Boot to download mode and look at the line with "OS" at the beginning for finding out your current firmware version.
The "firmware version" in "settings>about>software information>more" is only the base of the (custom) rom you are running and might therefore differ from the real one in the download mode.
Remember that you can always flash newer RUUs as long as they use the same encryption key as your current firmware. (c.f. the important notes in this post)

I already explained at the beginning of this post why you didn't get straighter answers. How hard is it to read what got written on the first pages of the ReadMe thread? (And it's not the first time that you completely ignore opening posts of a thread.)
