[Q] Wi-Fi Hotspot working with $20 Pref Android Web plan

T-mobile hotspot app is telling me to change my plan to get hotspot. I was under the assumption the Pref android plan was 5 gb data limit and free wi-fi hotspot. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance
No free wifi hotspot. I thought I had it too but apparently the hotspot plan you see for the Android preferred is for a really old phone..

Ah thanks for the response. I think your right because my rooted Sensation 4G was able to do wi-fi hotspot with a CM10 rom. Maybe if i root the Note 2 then i'll be able to wi-fi hotspot
Check out the forum...there are tutorials to change the apn to enable hotspot [requires root]

yeah you can hotspot with root, but its not that easy, you have to go through a "toggle" from a custom rom.
you can't just "flip" the native hotspot switch.
I would root and do all that stuff, but too much hassle for me.
lol

[Q] HD Voice

I would like to ask if anyone successfully got HD Voice working on the Galaxy Note 3 (T Mo version)?
I have a HTC One (T Mo Version), with the same SIM, I can make HD Voice call without problem on HTC One.
At the same location, same SIM, I can't seems to make any HD Voice Call to other T Mo subscribers.
Please help.
So no one else is having the issue? Is that just my phone?

I don't know anyone else on TMo, unfortunately, so I can't test this myself.
Thanks for your reply. I am now trying to get a new one from TMo and see if that resolve the issue.
I tried that *#0011# method as indicate from other forum on the Note 2 to "activate" HD Voice and that doesn't work.
I am very skeptical, I feel like that's more like a software issue on Samsung.

How do you know if HD voice is active?

On dialer when your connected to someone it says HD voice

I have a HTC One before and when I call my friend who has the same phone on the HTC One (on TMo), it sounds VERY VERY clear.
I am not sure how can I describe it, but I will try.
It is almost like for "regular voice" call, like when making a call, if the other end is not HD Voice compatible, it is like AM radio sounding, and the HD Voice is like you're listening to FM radio.
It is pretty obvious, that's why I notice it when I tried to make call on the Note 3.

Hmm I did some research and tried to see if it was enabled (using the S4 method) but the menu is different and won't let me access what I need

Does it work on yours? Did you get the "HD Voice" indication on the dialer?
Yea it works but seems only when connected to wifi (not wifi calling) and it drops my call if I outside wifi area to switch back to mobile signal

I've had the same problem of no bars being shown when connected to wifi although I don't have wifi calling enabled. Hope T-Mobile releases an update to fix it

Yeah, same here. I tried that but seems like the "ServiceMode" function is locked on Note 3

I think they just haven't updated the article because I believe the HTC One also supports HD Voice but it's not on that list.

Software glitch?
I made a 1-800 call earlier and saw HD on my dialer. I wasn't using wifi calling.
I have a fast and reliable WiFi connection and fast 3G and fast 4G LTE in my area yet I see no HD, What gives?

HD Voice only works on T Mobile Network connection. WiFi Calling does not have HD Voice.
I got a 2nd one, and still no HD Voice. I pop the SIM back to my HTC One, and HD Voice is working fine. (Calling from the same location to same person)
I am tired of troubleshoot for T Mobile and Samsung, returning the phone tomorrow and back to my HTC One. (sad to see the smaller screen... haha)

Since you are using it on Rogers, You will need to root and change your build prop, or flash the panama rom to get tether working. Its the AT&T Rom stopping you cause each time you try to enable tethering it only knows to check with AT&T and no one else.

You should only have to do it once. So not sure about that. As long as your setting it to lte/wcdma/gsm

Yea there's no way around that but to use a name like LG with no security and that only occanlly works. I thought you flashed the panama rom?? The build prop changes are not required for tethering to work that's only for the att version.

[Q] couple questions

ok so i have a verizon galaxy nexus i'm having trouble with barnacle hotspot, just sits there trying to disable wifi, which is already disabled.
what are the best options for rooted hotspot apps?
can i run v6 supercharger?
thanks!

edit: i;ve tried 'wifi tether' and 'open garden' now. open garden seems to work, but my laptop doesn't find the network
Why are you using a WiFi tether app ? Does the built in WiFi ap not work ?

I was under the impression that the built in app would be the verizon version and i would have to pay for it

I've been with Verizon for long time , I used to tether all the time , no extra charges. I think it became illegal to charge for WiFi hotspot .
I would check into it because you should be OK

Which ROMs support wifi calling?

I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T999 which supports wifi calling and am looking to flash a ROM onto it to use newer apps like Periscope, but I NEED wifi calling to work.
Anyone know of a really stable ROM that 100% supports wifi calling? Thanks.
As far as I am aware (and I could be incorrect) but only stock does wifi calling. Apps like hangouts can though.

Ahhhh OK I misunderstood. Sorry about that. I have an s3 (t999l) running Octo and it seems to work for all of them. On occasion you have to reboot when the camera hangs but it works well.

but you can still do wifi calling? like can i make calls to someone like normal using wifi calling? not using dedicated apps.
