Is it possible to flash a TMo ROM, Stock?, on my old ATT SM-900A (OC1) in order to get WiFi calling? I am a new T-Mobile customer and using my old hardware for the moment. Wifi calling is a huge deal for me in my weak service area.
No, it is impossible to flash stock TMo ROMs on AT&T's phone as far as I've read:
Here
However, I think there might be some ports of TMo software (custom ROM) for AT&T phones (which include Wi-Fi calling)
As seen here
I am NOT responsible for anything you decide to do at this point. I am giving you the resources to do your own research. I do not own a AT&T Phone and have no way of testing it out myself, proceed with caution.

I have flashed with TWRP (hlte) a N900TUVUFOB6.zip ROM and have WiFi calling, working on my Sprint Note 3 with a T-Mobile SIM. Installed, setup and did a backup. I restore it when I got WiFi but no cell signal. Not my daily driver but works.
Are you sim unlocked?

I'm not too familiar with the AT&T N900A Note 3, but I know about would need to be done. Now if I remember correctly, nobody was ever able to unlock the bootloader on that device, and that is definitely not good. Hopefully I'm wrong though because it would be fairly straight forward if the bootloader can be unlocked. You'd need a recovery like TWRP installed so you can flash a kernel, Safestrap won't work for that. If you could flash an actual full T-Mobile N900T ROM that includes the baseband and kernel, it should work. The N900A and N900T is almost identical except some of the network bands supported. I've looked some, and I'll look around a little more, but so far I haven't seen a single N900T ROM on a N900A device and it have functioning Wi-Fi Calling.

I know that ROM won't work the way he needs it to. The actual Wi-Fi Calling components have removed from it. I read through it and no one was ever able to get it functioning at all. *shrug*
There is no way to unlock the n900a bootloader and probably never will be. The phone is still a great device imho but it's considered old in the rapid pace of cell phone hardware.

That's what I thought. I didn't think the BL was ever unlocked on AT&T's variant, and you're correct, if it's not unlocked by now it's pretty much guaranteed it'll never happen.
I definitely agree that the Note 3 is still a great device. I'm still rockin' my N900T with it set up like the Nexus 6P/Pixel XL. And this little Snapdragon 800 can still get down. The phone is only really lacking stuff like camera hardware with OIS. But it's still really good if you don't use stuff like auto-focus. It'll turn out great pictures if you know how to manually adjust settings.

Autofocus works well in the note 3 thread...magma, phronesis and even cm 14 roms
the only phone that is att that can be flashed to tmo that I know of is the galaxy s4 because they are the same phone but this i've no idea

As with just about every AT&T phone now a days it seems stuff is missing or gimped from the international models.
Already it seems like the Note II has only Tri-Band 3G and possibly no FM Radio, I've also heard something in the forums of it only supporting 21mpbs 3G rather than 42?mbps 3G like on the international models... can anyone confirm these things or know of anything else the AT&T Note II is missing? I'm really disappointed with this kind of stuff.

Iirc att doesn't even support 42mbps, that's Tmobiles area. We have LTE, which is better. No FM radio is on all US versions. Blame the FCC

but.... it's not just ATT.
Some people just have weird personal vendettas against some cell companies saying they're "gimping" their phones. There is usually a pretty good reason. Like everyone was freaking over the s3 only getting a dual core in the US but it was because the chipsets didn't support LTE yet. Is that the carriers fault? Nope. Sure ATT wants you to use more data (they aren't a NPO lol) but they aren't the only ones to blame for stuff.
AT&T negatives:
LTE will use more battery power (even if you don't have LTE towers in your area or mess with the APNs - there's currently no known way to disable the LTE chip so it will draw power at least searching for a LTE signal.) For some, the positives of LTE outweigh this concern.
Carrier locked device - can't toss in a tmobile SIM and expect it to work. On the other hand, it's usually possible to SIM unlock the phones if you can talk AT&T into it and/or pay someone for a code.
Carrier controlled firmware updates - AT&T devices are typically 3-6 months (and more in many cases) behind international phones on firmware updates including bug fixes. The only carrier slower than AT&T for firmware updates is Verizon (and they might actually get the SGS3 to JB before AT&T does.) It's quite possible that a serious bug is found on the gnote2 and gets fixed for N7100 users, but AT&T (and other US carrier) users are left having to deal with the bug.
Carrier bloat. (Most of this can be frozen, but there might be parts coupled tightly enough with the rest of the firmware that it's difficult/impossible to properly disable it.) In some cases, a user actually might want some of the carrier bloat, however.
Missing firmware items - This goes further than just the FM Radio. I noticed that on my i9300 (international SGS3) there were many more programs than on my wife's AT&T branded SGS3. For example, dropbox, samsung apps, etc. Some of these are just bloat (so don't matter) and some are significant depending on the user.
Possibly a locked bootloader - this is unlikely, but until the phone is released, it's always possible.
Lack of (or less) support in the developer community. The AT&T phone likely won't get near the level of developer support that the international one gets. Put another way, for every 1 developer with a 317m, there are a dozen with n7100's.
This is only a partial list and is likely missing items that we won't realize until the phone is released. On the other hand, I've purposely included at least one item I doubt will be an issue (bootloader) to make the point that we don't yet have complete info.

Seeing as it's already been successfully rooted, I don't think the bootloader is an issue.

I don't think it'll be an issue either, but the AT&T model hasn't been rooted - the Canadian variant has. Being that the devices will have different pre-loaded bloat, it's also possible they'll have different bootloaders.

Serious question, but why would this be the case? Other than the radios, aren't the hardware on all of the US variants and the international Note II pretty much identical? Couldn't we just flash the rom, but keep the modem corresponding to our carrier?
Not a developer or anything, but I'm just a curious consumer that might buy the Note II when it gets released on AT&T

That would be ideal, but it's doubtful. N7100 firmware doesn't work on the N7105 (international LTE), and there have already been kernel-level differences noticed between the 7105 and the tmobile variant. Chances are high that the tmobile variant is closer to the 317 than the 7105.
Of course, it's all guesswork until we start actually messing with the phone.
2 more (slight) cons. Native tethering on ATT is not free. And no FM radio app. Hopefully both can be fixed later by devs.
Lack of FM radio - pretty trivial I think.
Lack of a 32/64gb version of the phone (16gb only). Also trivial considering 64gb cards.
ATT tethering not being free isn't only an ATT issue and it's also not a phone hardware limitation....so I don't see this as a con of the phone itself, rather a carrier con. You can get this via rom
I read where someone mentioned that the AT&T model was missing the multi-window feature. Is it still not on the device? The international Note 2 has it. That's a pretty big omission if it's not there. I've been thinking really hard about which one to get but I'd rather have no bloat, fast(er) updates, and full manufacturer software instead of a carrier crippled device with LTE.

I kind of agree with this (especially since LTE is over a year away here) No FM radio ( I do use it and it saves battery as well as a lot Data)
Deal breaker is ROM development though. I learned my lesson with the Captivate insofar as development I was really hoping the ATT version would be equivalent to the International. Have to wait and see.
I realize that people really want custom ROMs, as I would, but considering how much better the hardware and OS is getting (note 2 cpu + project butter + 2gb ram) is bloat really so much of an issue?
Seems to me that we can always remove some of the apps we don't need.
Now as for customizations, like the "phablet" stuff that Jamie did with the paranoidandroid rom, those I'll miss.
But overall I'm excited to see how well this phone works, I should have mine on the 7th. I'm looking forward to the new S-Pen integration features, which should be really cool I hope. I am also anticipating a very smooth running device even with the bloated ATT rom As to custom rom's we'll have to see how it goes and keep our hopes up.

Same with the original Note vs. the international Note. The development was totally different. The development for the AT&T Note didn't even compare to the international. I almost traded my att Note for an international model but I decided to sell it and buy the One X. I forgot to mention in my previous post but that is also a huge consideration. It looks like, as of now, I'll be going with the International Note 2. I use Straight Talk on my One X and plan to with any of my future phones so it's not like I'd be able to use LTE if even my area did have it, which still won't be for at least another year or so.
I wonder tho if the development will be roughly the same since they have the same chipset this time around. Such as roms for the international being portable to the carrier versions and vice versa. Still, even with that, it looks like international versions usually have more development. Plus they get a head start.
So I'm trading with my mother her T-Mobile sim for mine. She's going to take over my contact from Att and I'll take hers. Reason is her job well pay her bill but they want Att for some weird reason Lol. And i want the unlimited data with T-Mobile. So my question is once I unlock both phones, well I still be able to use my current rom? witch is avatar latest with KKO kennel. Would I just use an T-Mobile modem and radio or just stick with the Att radio/modem?

yea ROM shouldnt matter. Its all about the baseband or modem. Might want to hop over to the T mobile forums and ask them. Another thing you want to do with your AT&T Note is hack it so you can use T Mobiles AWS bands. The Chip in our phones is disabled right now but we have the hardware to use the T mobile bands.

It's actually very easy to enable the AWS band on the AT&T Note 2. T-Mobile LTE works out of the box, but for 3G (HSPA+), you need to flash a file from your computer. You don't have to be rooted though. It shouldn't void your warranty either or trip the flash counter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041

Flashing another Note 2's radio (as in another carrier's/model's) to your AT&T Note 2 can actually damage it. Not physically, but you'll lose your IMEI for example and probably get stuck in a bootloop. Stick with AT&T modems. You have to reapply that flash from your computer any time you flash or reflash a modem though. But seeing as how most custom ROMs don't come with a modem, you won't be doing that often anyways.

Yes. Although you can change ROMs freely. This mod will stick until you flash a different modem (which is separate from a ROM), at which point you just flash it again.

Yes. Modems rarely need to be changed and are in a separate file 99% of the time. Kernels and ROMs and anything else can be changed as many times as you want.
What area are you in? You might see how it works stock unlocked on the refarming first. I'm quite happy with how my i717 does in Chicago.

I live in north part of Phoenix az And my mother gets 4g just bought any of the surrounding area.
Hello all,
I have an international version Note II (GT-N7100). I am on T-Mobile in an area where most of the towers now use the 1900mHz band. I'm wandering if I can flash a T-Mobile branded ROM to get the use of Wifi Calling, which I've cherished the ability to have (sometimes with hacked apks and libs), on previous phones. Would flashing one of these ROMs work well with my version of the phone? Or if even better, is there a package I can get like THIS that will push the wifi calling to my phone?
If it is workable for me to flash one of these ROMs, should I be flashing a radio as well? Or any other tips to make this conversion work out?
Do not flash an LTE Note 2 modem on the non-LTE version, they have different hardware. I know there were some porting guides to modify ROMs to go from one to the other, so this won't be a straight-forward flash.
You should be able to flash t-mobile roms and get the Wi-Fi calling feature.
I am using it on my AT & T note 2 and Wi-Fi calling is working flawlessly.
Try Tweaked ROM from T mobile note 2 section and make sure you keep your existing RADIO/Modem.

Thank you both for the replies. I will try to get one working. Had some issues for a couple days recovering from trying Android 4.3... lol I like to experiment.
Curious as well
I bought this international version as well I live in the states and have been using it with att but now I'm about to switch to tmobile. I have rooted the phone but I am curious if I can flash it with a stock tmobile version of firmware (where ever that is) and use it with our services here. I understand Ill need to reset the counter and all that crap too. I have experience with rooting and installing CFW's but having a tmobile stock firmware that will accomplish things like wifi calling and ota updates would be very beneficial at least until that final firmware update is released then I will probably root it again.. real shame they wont let you OTA update just for a simple root but then again I guess with warranties and law suits and the chance of screwing up your possible custom firmware maybe its a good thing. Anyways point me in the right direction HAHA. The phone is amazing so far and works flawlessly with the towers here. Thanks. I checked the tweaked firmware for tmobile seems like it might work like you said but Im extra cautious at times and so I would like to know If what i stated above will work ok or not ???? Its not a huge deal if i cant have ota updates but yeah I would def like to have wifi calling and maybe some of tmobiles other things but yeah Looking forward to some advice

Were you able to get the software on your N7100? I am curious as I would like to know how to get it done as well. thanks in advance.
I've been hearing a lot of stories that users using a t mobile note 3 on the ATT network were having issues with reception and getting and holding onto LTE. Seems like an important enough topic to deserve its own thread. Initially I'd like to see issues with the Note 3 as I'm still deciding which carrier model I'll go with, but eventually we can put information on the Note 4 when its released.
I may just eat the locked bootloader with ATT. Really the only things I would miss are xposed modules and titanium, I'm not into custom roms anyhow. Tmobile reception is just too horrible in my area so staying on their network isn't an option.
EDIT: Also wondering if the Tmobile phone can use the ATT Microcell? Also can the Tmobile do tethering on the ATT network?
Edit2: I'd love to see some db numbers as it seems just judging reception by bars is highly inaccurate, most users don't even realize tmobile uses 4 bars versus ATT's 5 bars.
I have the at&t note 3 and the the tmobile note3.I have been using the tmobile note 3 on at&t service since the day it came out. I get the same coverage as the at&t model including lte with no problems sometimes better on the tmobile version. I will be buying the note 4 on tmobile Again to use with my att service until the note edge comes out. I will be buying the tmobile note 4 version again thus year because of the att locked bootloader crap. I can live without the roms but not root access, xposed and wanam apk take care pretty much of the rom stuff. It takes to long to get root on the att model. Look how long we had to wait last year just for root and the bootloader is still locked tight, with no promise of ever being unlocked. The tmobile note 4 will be probally rooted in the first week if release., Bye, Bye, AT&T PHONES ,YOU SUCK AT&T..
I was one of the people to use the TMO Note 3 on AT&T who had reception issues. HSPA+ reception was fine, LTE reception was awful. It wouldn't even pick it up in areas where an iPhone 5 would sit with 2 LTE bars.
Having used the TMO S5 on AT&T, I didn't have any problems. The note 4 should be fine.

Had nothing but LTE reception issues with my TMO Note 3 on AT&T. For this alone, I'll pick up the AT&T Note 4. I don't have much need for root nowadays anyway.
I've been using the T-mobile Note 3 on AT&T for a year now and haven't had reception issues. It does switch to HSPA+ from LTE earlier than my ATT note 2 did but the db signal strength was the same.
Having root is an absolute must for me. I have to have adaway, truecrypt (EDS), debloat, and Titanium backup. I would pull my hair out (what's left of it) looking at all the ads on my phone.

I'd rather have reception than the very few remaining reasons to root these days as I use my phone for business and it's crucial. It may be a small difference or large, but I can't take that chance. Really the last reason I root is titanium and xposed.
My G3 (AT&T variant) has real trouble holding onto LTE, and my Nexus 5 was much the same way.
Makes me think a lot of it is just their network.
I had much better LTE signal/performance on T-Mobile. But better overall voice coverage with AT&T.
I'm also on ATT considering getting the TMo version for unlocked bootloader. Is there a map that shows which bands my city uses (or does it matter)?
Thanks,
-PDX
I am getting the TMO N4 to put on AT&T also. I don't have any plans to put any custom roms on it but I figured if I was going to pay full price for a phone I might as well get all the options. I am trying to decide if I am going to pay to have it unlocked before the 40 days that TMO requires or just wait it out.

If root is an absolute must for you, then what's going to happen when root is completely locked down? It seems like things are going that direction. Will you not use a smartphone anymore?

Ya, they are slowly backing us into a corner. I don't like google's stance on no sd card slots with nexus devices. Soooooo, as long as T-mobile keeps unlocked bootloaders (which is a free pass to root) I'll probably stay with Samsung.

It's already here. Chainfire released it a few days ago. (for the t-mobile version)
I've been using an unlocked T-Mobile note 3 since it came out with no issues with LTE speeds/coverage. I want the note 4 but hadn't read anywhere that it was confirmed to have an unlocked bootloader. Has anyone confirmed that the bootloader is unlocked? Also are the bands going to cover us for all our services on att? Also att is coming out with LTE-A soon, will the note 4 unlocked support it?

There are some initial reports of people receiving TMO devices over in the TMO forums, you may want to ask there.

Hopefully it's the same case for the AT&T and VZW versions. I really don't want to have to sell it immediately and then go through the process of buying a TMO one.
Would've done that outright, but I can't afford it at full retail. Had to go with a 2yr upgrade and the BB promotion.
u-dig?
Of course the tmo version doesn't work perfect out of the box, but after some minor modifications it will work beautifully!
I've had a tmo note 3 over a year with excellent results!!!
You will need to configure the build prop and configure the apn for ATT..
Then enjoy!
in Reverse
Can You unlock an ATT Note 4 To work on T mobile? I tried out The service I have never seen data speeds so fast before In my life. 70 down 20 up. Will the bootloaders Unlock if I have The phone unlocked for their Network?

Just curious . I have the tmo note 4 running on Att for about 4 to 5 months now. The only thing that changed was the APN. Everything is working fine.
What changes did you have to make to build prop?
-I am no longer using Verizon anyway
-Can I get T-mobile ROM from Sammobile and Flash it on Verizon Note 4 910V AND continue using the phone on T-mobile network
-I am already using Tm on 910V but Verizon is terribly slow at delivering 5.1.1
-TIll today I don't get it
-I don't want to deal with Verizon anymore + Verizon ROM comes with tons of Verizon bloatwares
-More:
-http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/development/rom-jasminerom-v1-0-t3113771 >> this seems like a promising ROM no bloatwares from VZ
-Can Note 4 910V owners flash ROMs? (as in; I DON'T have the DEVELOPER EDITION, I just have the normal retail 910V - where one gets from Verizon retail store)
-I don't actually need ROOT, I just sick of Verizon's way of handling software; it's slow to update; and they don't seem to care
Not going to happen, probably ever, it seems.

....................all I had to do was pop in the t-mobile sim in and make the suggested setting adjustments. In my area I got 4g on my sm-n910v on the t-mobile network. No problem
I'm in the same situation can we flash a tmobile note 4 rom onto the verizon note 4 910v with no issues?
TMobile Note4 ROM on Verizon Note4?
I too am in this dilemma of wanting to switch to TM from VZ because my VZ 4G has gotten so slow compared to TM.
TM has told me that they are not sure if my SM-N910V will work on TM yet it works on ATT. My Note4 IS unlocked.
I tried popping in a friends SIM at TM store and the rep changed the settings, but it just would NOT connect. Of course he only wanted to sell me one of their phones.
I just bought this Note4 Oct 2015 from a third party and it works fine, but lately VZ is sucking HARD!
Any news hear?

It WILL work. Sounds like they just wanted to sell you a phone I've been using TM on my 910V for the last 4 months with absolutely no issues whatsoever. With the T-Mobile sim card inserted, go to Settings -> Network Settings -> Access Point Names (I'm on CM13 so the names might be slightly different)
From there, create a new APN, then name it whatever you'd like. Enter information into the fields from T-Mobile's website here: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2090
Then, save the APN and select it in the APN list by toggling the radio button. It should work just fine now.

Thanks. I use the SM-N910T and SM-N910V.
I've loaded sooo many custom ROMs on the Verizon Note 4 that work fine with T-Mobile.
IF I load a semi-stock or stock Verizon ROM, the device refuses to work on T-mobile.
(No matter what APNs are used.) My guess is the newer BL.
This is just ANOTHER way our lovely US carriers grab us by the balls and say, "Your device is Unlocked and Free to use on any other CDMA/GSM carrier."
Don't you believe them!
On another note; Has anyone been able to Unlock the BL on ATT models yet???

Out of curiosity, what bootloader firmware were you running when you had trouble with this? I had stock ROM + CPG2 and didn't have any issues using T-Mobile.
Hey guys, so I successfully unlocked boot loader, and flashed twrp. I Am now flashing the hybrid firmware. I will then boot to recovery, wipe, and flash a T-Mobile Rom. Correct? By the way I use cricket service. Thanks

Its more about the radio inside and which frequencies it uses......so if tmobile doesnt use a bandwidth that verizon does or your phone doesnt pick up what tmobile puts out you will have a useless phone......that is if you can find tobile rom that will even boot on your phone....some phones do cross over and run on different carriers....ive personally seen an att Iphone running verizon...but every phone is different and results are sketchy depending on the area you live in due to the frequencies used are also different in different areas!.....I wish I could give you specifics for your phone and area but I just dont know that kind of info....it is available but you will have to research that! Good luck!

Can you give instructions on how you done it. And does it work all functions work and does it get better signal etc i barely get 1 bar when it decides to work with my tmobile sim card
Verizon Note 4 to T-Mobile Note 4
I've inherited a Verizon Note 4 (SM-N910V) Retail from a grandfather who can no longer see to use it. He was on Verizon (obviously) and I am using T-Mobile. I was going to use this as my daily driver to replace my Honor 5X. Obviously, the Note 4 is a better phone and the 5X doesn't really work all that well with T-Mo's features anyways.
I've tried just inserting the sim and adding the T-Mo APN, but I can only get phone service in the Akron, Ohio area, no data. According to GSMArena here https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_4_(usa)-6758.php the phone should have Band 12 (which is supposed to be T-Mo's 4G in my area).
My goal here is two-fold: to fix the bootloader to allow rooting and remove the Verizon and Samsung bloatware, and then flash this ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/romtesting-t3380186 The Resurrection Remix ROM 5.6.8. This would "essentially" make the phone a T-Mobile phone and is supposed to allow their Wi-Fi calling feature.
The Note 4 phone I have is running Android 6.0.1, baseband N910VVRU2CQ12, and Kernal v. 3.10.40 from Sep 4, 2017.
The question is: What is the safest and easiest way to root this thing, and has anyone here used the Rez Remix T-Mobile ROM?
I've been reading through many threads that explain the process:

i believe phone companies only say that because they want you to buy one of there crap bloatware phones its a marketing strategy or trick to lock you into a payment plan
