I am currently running the latest nightly of Lineage OS on my Nexus 6P.
I also have Google Assistant by flashing the Google Assistant Velvet and Build prop zips.
I cannot seem to activate the Google Assistant by long pressing the home button because it brings up the recent apps.
How can I configure the home button for Google Assistant?

You should not need to do anything other than set the language to "English (US)".
I have changed the system app to English US as well as Google app language to English US.
Doesn't seem to make a difference.
How can I configure the home button to activate Google Assistant on long press?
Gapps nano and English US is all I did. If something still prevents it all that is needed is a simple build.prop edit. No zip or anything. Just a Google App enabled Gapps

Configure the behaviour of the buttons in Settings -> Buttons
Caveat: I'm not using LineageOS any longer so I am not 100% sure if those settings still exist. They did a couple of months ago.

setting system language to English us won't change that. for that your google account should be us one. i also had the same problem because in sri lanka still assistant is not rolled out. i enable it thanks to that man. try if you want.
link fiverr.com/androidea/change-your-google-play-store-country
he changed my google account country and enabled me new assistant
Go to settings-apps-touch on the setting icon given above the right side -then go to assist and voice input-select assist app as google- then clear all google play services and Google app data by doing clear all -then go to settings -buttons-select long press home button action for search assistant. that's it your assistant will be working....

I'd like to set the long press of my Search navigation button to "Voice Search" by Google but I'm not seeing it in my app drawer. Only way to pull it up is to search, then hit the mic button.
I tried TiBackup to uninstall it but it never gets removed, possibly because it's a system app?
I then reflashed the gapps zip through CWM but nothing changed.
It doesn't show up in the app drawer. Ever.
i'm trying to set up my long press search button (in navigation bar) to bring up Voice Search. i swore i was able to do it before, but i'm not sure what changed, i've messed around with a bunch of ROMs, kernels and launchers since that time haha.
AOKP, Slim, and liquid can do this.
oh yeah, i'm on AOKP but the problem is that Voice Search doesn't come up as an avaialble app/shortcut
Is it installed?
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."
yup, when in Google Play, it says "Installed" next to it. I can also use it when I click on the mic during searches. But no way for me to find it to select it as ana pp.
Easy. Just install nova launcher. If you have nova launcher installed (just installed, you don't even have to actually use it) it puts voice search in your shortcuts list. Select "nova launcher" from the list of shortcuts and then a menu will pop up where you select voice search.
Mine used to be that way, but now it shows in the app drawer. Which i think is annoying. Im stock takju never rooted or unlocked. Kinda bummed it shows up now

I installed Nova Launcher, but I have no clue what you're referring to do. Could you please explain how to assign Google Voice Search to open when long pressing the Search button? Please? =)
I just got the note 3 coming for the note 2 and i love the phone but I've found an irritating issue with the note 3 S Finder. I've been able to uninstall it after rooting with titanium backup as there is no way to disable or remove while stock. now what i want to do is to be able to long press the menu button like i did with my note 2 and bring up Google now but after uninstalling S Finder and trying to create a tasker profile that would give me those results i cant seem to find how to input a hardware menu long press into tasker as the only long press option im given is camera button long press. Which the note 3 has no dedicated camera button. Any tips or ideas on how i can get my Google now back via a menu key long press?
No one has any ideas or suggestions that might be of some kind of help. I'd really appreciate it.

I totally understand your frustration. Also coming from a Note 2, I used Google Now quite often. So, what I, did was add Google Now shortcut to my locksceen. I got rid of the other shortcuts (email, camera, etc etc) and just put a Google Now shortcut. It works for me.

I was even more frustrated, because I used to long press 'menu' button for in-app search OR as Google <Now> app shortcut on the home screen of Touchwiz.
So how to replace the S-Finder with Google search, how to return the Note 2 behavior (Google Now search + In-App Search when applicable):
1) Root the device
2) Install latest Xposed framework from the official website.
3) Launch Xposed framework, activate it and press reboot button in the app.
4) Launch Xposed framework, go to Repository, find the GravityBox module and install it. Sorry, I am not allowed to post links on this forum.
5) Return to Xposed framework, go to Modules, check the new installed GravityBox module.
6) Launch GravityBox app, go to Navigation buttons, select 'Long-press Menu button' and change the behavior to 'In-app search'. Go back.
That's it. Now you have that in-app search AND you have Google Now (or other preferred search app) on the home screen!
heres how to get google now/search back by long pressing the menu button.
must be rooted and have xposed installed.
Install the xposed additions module
open xposed additions app>
button re-map awake>menu>long press>search>reboot
now when you long press the menu button good now/search should pop up like the note2...it will not vibrate when pressed though
link for exposed

When I did this, my Home button long press brings up the power menu. Odd. Menu brings up Google Search, though. I had to go in and remap the Home button long press to bring up recent apps.
I was trying to make double tap home to goto google now, are you guys doing menu or home button? and which app are you picking in wanam? voice search or google search

Just "Search". I have long press menu set to bring up Google Search.
where is that option at?

Install Xposed installer, and open it. Go to "Download" and scroll down to "Xposed Additions" to install that.
Go back to the beginning of Xposed installer and open "Modules" to ensure "Xposed Additions" is checked on.
Reboot.
Go into your Apps drawer and open "Xposed Additions," and you'll see "Button Re-map Awake." Open that to remap any buttons you want while your screen is on. For the "Menu Button" the "Long Press" option you want to choose is "Search"
If anyone wants double click home to open Voice Search, you can try the app Home2 Shortcut from the Playstore. Assign it as your main launcher and from within the app pick your real launcher to be assigned to 1 click of the home button. Then select voice search as the double click action. This take you directly into voice commands instead of having to say "ok Google" to launch it in Google Now

Very cool, without root!
I have come to learn that I would only want root for titanium backup as there are so many unrooted options for things I thought I needed root for like wifi tether or app permission management.

Is there any way to have long-pressing the menu button go straight to Google Now? If I thought Samsung stopped doing this sh!t years ago. S Finder is awful.

In LP 5.1.1, Google search is totally different from the old days. You could config Google search by saying "ok google" from any screen. The home screen already have a short cut to Google search. You can't use the Home button to launch Google Search anymore ...unless we're talking about custom rom.
If you ae rooted you can use xposed additions.
Personally, I find S Finder quiet useful because of the handwriting search!
Hello!
I'm on the latest beta release of Nova Launcher, and I used the app store app "Get Assistant" to, well.. get Assistant
I'm running Pure Nexus Nougat Nov 16th on my Nexus 6P.
Is there a way to get the gestures action to activate Google Assistant? Currently, it brings up the old "Google Now" voice prompt..

It's not really a gesture, but press and hold on the home button works.
Isn't there another action?
I when assigning the hardware buttons on my device, I saw that there is a "search assistant" and a "voice search" option.
Is if possible that Nova has something similar?
