I just got the note 3 coming for the note 2 and i love the phone but I've found an irritating issue with the note 3 S Finder. I've been able to uninstall it after rooting with titanium backup as there is no way to disable or remove while stock. now what i want to do is to be able to long press the menu button like i did with my note 2 and bring up Google now but after uninstalling S Finder and trying to create a tasker profile that would give me those results i cant seem to find how to input a hardware menu long press into tasker as the only long press option im given is camera button long press. Which the note 3 has no dedicated camera button. Any tips or ideas on how i can get my Google now back via a menu key long press?
No one has any ideas or suggestions that might be of some kind of help. I'd really appreciate it.

I totally understand your frustration. Also coming from a Note 2, I used Google Now quite often. So, what I, did was add Google Now shortcut to my locksceen. I got rid of the other shortcuts (email, camera, etc etc) and just put a Google Now shortcut. It works for me.

I use wanam xposed. And the xposed module . https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.xposed but i use double tap home for Google now.
Has Anyone tried freezing "finder" in titanium. Actually one more question, has anyone eels noticed Google now flash for a second before s finder pops up.. here's a video to show.. https://db.tt/b9Ed7YGh

I was even more frustrated, because I used to long press 'menu' button for in-app search OR as Google <Now> app shortcut on the home screen of Touchwiz.
So how to replace the S-Finder with Google search, how to return the Note 2 behavior (Google Now search + In-App Search when applicable):
1) Root the device
2) Install latest Xposed framework from the official website.
3) Launch Xposed framework, activate it and press reboot button in the app.
4) Launch Xposed framework, go to Repository, find the GravityBox module and install it. Sorry, I am not allowed to post links on this forum.
5) Return to Xposed framework, go to Modules, check the new installed GravityBox module.
6) Launch GravityBox app, go to Navigation buttons, select 'Long-press Menu button' and change the behavior to 'In-app search'. Go back.
That's it. Now you have that in-app search AND you have Google Now (or other preferred search app) on the home screen!

No home2 shortcut does not work. i want to be able to set double click home button to voice search (google now) that app does not allow that
Well you could use nova to launch with a long press on the menu button. You could also flash cm10 instead and allow a long press of home to launch Google now. Nova might also allow home2 to assign an activity like voice search.

It won't do the double click action, but certain AOSP ROMs let you choose a custom action when long pressing the home button.

Want to share some useful information that some people might not know about...
*Problem*Everyone hates holding the home button to muktitask or launch things
*Solution* Using Apex launcher (works in Nova too), go to apex settings, behavior settings, and you can assign almost anything to a gesture. I use double tap and set it to "recent apps". Now, I just double tap anywhere on the home screen and it brings up recent apps with no lag! This has made multitasking 5 times better and so easy. I can also set Google Now to launch by swipe up, swipe down, pinch, etc. I hate the home button for anything besides going to default screen

I would also like this to work with a double press of the home button. I'm on Ktoonzes AOKP.
Ideally:
Press once - Home
Press twice - Google Now <-- what i want.
Long Press - Recent apps <-- currently how it works. I don't want to replace the long press action with search.
I am running tw Rom with trebuchet and home 2 shortcut works perfectly for this function. One Gives me home. double tap gives Google now and hold gives me tasks .
Important step is to disable s voice in settings

Home 2 shortcut works great, but and I have never had a problem with it in the LIH leak or any JB leak for that matter. Make sure you have cleared defaults and have went into s-voice setting and unchecked the home button press brings up S-voice.

As you are probably aware, double tapping the home button will launch S Voice on the Galaxy S3. Unfortunately, Samsung did not include a way to re-assign this button for a different function if you don't fancy the S Voice app. Instead, all they did was give you a way to disable the hone button double tap. Well here is a way for you to re-assign the home button double tap without the need for any rooting or modding at all.
Step 1) Go into the S Voice settings and uncheck the Launch SVoice box. This will keep S Voice from launching when you double tap the home button.
Step 2) Install Home2 Shortcut from the Play Store
Step 3) Open Home2 Shortcut and configure it to launch the app of your choosing with a double tap of the home button. The app is pretty self explanatory and setting it up will be pretty straight forward. NOTE: When you get to the end, after you tap "close" it will ask you to set as default. Select Home2Launcher as the default.
Hope this helps anyone who didn't know how to do this. I am currently running CM10, and am using this to launch Google Now with a double tap of the home button.

Fantastic!! Thanks to everyone who mentioned on how to set this up! :good:
To do this without any extra apps would require a very small edit to android.policy.jar.
I think I experimented with it on ICS and successfully got it working. I have yet to do it on Jelly Bean though.

When I did this, my Home button long press brings up the power menu. Odd. Menu brings up Google Search, though. I had to go in and remap the Home button long press to bring up recent apps.
I was trying to make double tap home to goto google now, are you guys doing menu or home button? and which app are you picking in wanam? voice search or google search

Just "Search". I have long press menu set to bring up Google Search.
where is that option at?
Sent from my SM-N900V
Install Xposed installer, and open it. Go to "Download" and scroll down to "Xposed Additions" to install that.
Go back to the beginning of Xposed installer and open "Modules" to ensure "Xposed Additions" is checked on.
Reboot.
Go into your Apps drawer and open "Xposed Additions," and you'll see "Button Re-map Awake." Open that to remap any buttons you want while your screen is on. For the "Menu Button" the "Long Press" option you want to choose is "Search"
If anyone wants double click home to open Voice Search, you can try the app Home2 Shortcut from the Playstore. Assign it as your main launcher and from within the app pick your real launcher to be assigned to 1 click of the home button. Then select voice search as the double click action. This take you directly into voice commands instead of having to say "ok Google" to launch it in Google Now

Very cool, without root!
I have come to learn that I would only want root for titanium backup as there are so many unrooted options for things I thought I needed root for like wifi tether or app permission management.

I have searched everywhere that I can and can't seem to find the solution I'm looking for.
Basically what I want to do is remap the home button. Normally, when double-pressed S-Voice will launch, and when long-pressed the recent apps panel will open. What I want to do is switch those (and use Google Now instead). So what I mean is that I want double-pressing the home button to bring up the recent apps panel and I want long-pressing the home button to bring up the search app Google Now).
I found that the Wanam Xposed module allows me to remap the long-press action to launch Google Now, which gets me halfway there. But I still need something that will open the recent apps panel when I double-press the home button.
I have tried the Home2 app in the Play Store, but I don't like the way it works. I was hoping for something that is more built-in and integrated, if you know what I mean.
Thank you for your help!
I'm using Samsung devices since about 2 years and since that time I'm looking for something that can do this. Haven't found anything so far, do I would love to see a solution for this!
In the meantime gestures do a fine job though. I rarely ever use my home button.

Anyone know of a solution?
Got my G3 today and have been spending a good amount of time setting it up.
I am rooted and have Xposed w/G3 Tweaksbox.
I have a couple of things that still annoy me.
Is there a way to swap the behavior of the recent apps button? I want short press to be menu and long press to be recent apps. I figured out I can add a menu button using G3 Tweaksbox that does exactly that, but I can't remove the stock recent apps button, so I have 4 buttons there and I don't really like that.
When I drag up the recent apps button, I get a little semi circle selector with voicemate, search and quickmemo+ options. I have no intention of ever using voicemail or quickmemo+. Is there a place to change the 3 things that come up there?

I have the exact thing you want; but I don't want it. I'm rooted with Xposed framework and I randomly rebooted my phone earlier to have it turn back on with a functioning menu button. I looked through all the modules I had downloaded and even booted into safe mode but to no avail. I desperately need help with this.
Sorry that's not what you want, but if anyone knows how to get that, that's why I want.

Sorry for reposting this... Thought I posted in a different thread but I guess I'm wrong. Please don't crucify me
As a long time samsung user, I'd say try without the menu button and see how you get on first.
But you can change the swipe up (and thats a swipe up from anywhere on the navigation bar btw, try it out), using tweaksbo, it's under:
theme > ring pad
And you can either turn it off, or add up to 5 custom apps.
The recent apps button is kinda key to android, it's like asking to remove the home button. Maybe instead of adding a menu button, make double tap on home be the menu button instead? Then you'd still have your three icons, and wouldn't lost out on recent apps, which you should end up using more now it's easier to reach (as opposed to a long press on the home button on samsung).
As noted most apps should use the 3 dot menu button so unless you have an outdated app you use regularly you really shouldn't even want a dedicated menu button. Ask the developer to update the app. It's the way forward and most all modern phones don't have a dedicated menu button, even the S5 replaced the menu button with the multitask button. It you really can't adapt ask the G3 Tweaks xposed developer if he can add a menu button option as the G3 already has the framework to change nav buttons.

Just use the LG Display menu in settings to remove that button and xposed to add other button options. I'd like to know what people use, I'm on a 4 button system. I'll post pics when I get a chance
I somehow managed to change them on a system level if that's even possible. I disabled all modules and even booted into safe mode and they were still there. I'd like to change it back on whatever level it got modified. And the settings app crashes when I try to change the button combination.
The OP did not want to replace the resents button with menu, but only change its behavior: short press - menu, long press- resents. I am very interested in the same setup.

In TweaksBox under theme tweaks, then ring pad. It let's you select one in the free version. In the donate version you can select up to 5 shortcuts in the ring pad or disable it altogether.
settings / display / home touch buttons / button combination
I think they are standard options and not something I've added in. let's you add/remove a button such as the menu button or recent apps. screen is wide so I use 5 buttons.

personally don't use program #1 the ring selector as it is accidentally opening all the time with use of the back button.

Hold the recents and thats your menu button. Thats a default setting i believe. No need for g3 tweakbox unless a longpress isnt what you want. Idk which model you have but the tmobile version doesnt let you add the menu button on the nav bar.

Hey hey
