Lg g3 endless bootloop with new battery - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my phone suffered from bootloop and according to the tremendous posts about this problem the answer was always laying in buying a new original battery, which i did but still the bootloop continues, may open for a few hours then bootlop again,
if anyone could help that would be appreciated because i'm giving on the phone now

mines doing the same thing with the original battery..
interested in the answer before i outlay for a v20.

I had a bit of a hunt around and i noted that the phone has an issue with the WiFi.. so i disabled the WiFi and Bluetooth in the settings
as a precaution i ran some tape over the NFC and Qi battery charging connectors, blocking these connections.
if this solves the problems.. ill be outlaying for a new phone soon.. ill wait for the G6 to come out before considering the v20
ill post back in a week if i experience the same issues.

looks like this did not fix the issue.. i will try a custom ROM tonight to see if it fixes the issue..
i am wondering if the battery is the key here, it is possible that the software is seeing the battery voltage and when it drops below a certain volt the OS automatically shuts down the phone to protect itself..
as i only see the boot loop when i am launching particular heavy load apps. and i don't see this happening when the battery is at 100%

some interesting points here.

Do you have a reboot (phone restart) or a bootloop (phone try to restart but it never pass the boot screen)?
Have you noticed temperature issues?
If you have already tried return to stock and the problem continue it probably is a hardware failure.

before with the old battery it started to freeze and restart then it got worse, it closes and bunch of bootloops then open then 2 minutes and bootloop again, until it permanently bootlooped ,so i bought new original battery from lg store and the phone opened first time then 5 mins later it restarted then bootlooped once again, thing is, by the new battery it opens sits for an half an hour or less then bootloop, with the old battery it never passes the lg logo.

Hi , I have the exact same problem and i thought changing battery is the solution but i got my new battery today and everything was fine at the begining but later when the phone tried to update some apps again it turned off .
I had this issue suddenly few days ago after install some apps or some updates .. I am hoping it is because of software issues and can be fixed after factory reset.
(phone able to start when it is colder , so i tried to put it 2 min in freezer and it started but just tried one time , i dont know just coincidence )

I tried to update my firmware to 6.0 MM , so nothing change.
Looks like nobody able to solve this problem. Now my phone is just garbage

I noticed the same thing, it works fine when it's cold or normal then lag and restart when it's hot (38C+), today i tried to disable heating lag and the thermal mitigation thing but still doing the same..

It seems the problem is related to hardware.

After so many tries finally "kind of" stable solution i found.
Rooted phone and use No-frill Cpu app to block my cpu speed on 1 ghz .. so far no loop or restart ... we will see

It is even better now because I opened up my phone and heatsinked the cpu .. I am still using lower cpu freq but even works without cpu adjustment after heat sink .. Now using 1.5 ghz just for incase.
(Still sometimes turning off itself when charging) Would be even better with heat sink pad i guess

I had heard that adding a 0.5mm thermal pad to the SOC makes its run a little cooler, but i do seem to think the battery is the main culprit, the main problem with getting a replacement battery which operates within the same tolerances.
downclocking the cpu to 2.0-2.2ghz with a fresh battery and adding a thermal pad on the SOC seems like the best solution..
I have since upgraded to a v20.. so hopefully it doesn't happen with that phone..

Some old original baterries have an issue that swollen a bit and the phone starts rebooting itself. But I don't remember from which year the good ones are manufactured.
Try testing with a generic battery (as I do) to see if that's the issue.
If you still have the battery's warranty, claim it.

I got a new battery, then charged it fully, then added an empty SD card to back up the data. Connected to a fast charger., otherwise it is not enough power to keep it on, causing a bootloop. The phone must be cool, not powered on for some time (overnight, in my situation).
I was able to back up the data., my main goal. I have heard others being able to fix it, and it works for some time, but soon enough this trick no longer works.

p5200 Random shutdowns

Hi all,
I own the p5200 (Tab3 10.1) for a few weeks.
Recently I noticed that the device sometimes randomly shuts down by itself, and I have to power it on again by myself.
It mostly happens when I don't use it (and than come back to use it and it's dead) - but it also happened once when I used it.
Did any of you guys experience that weird behavior ?
I don't believe it is a hardware defect, rather then a software/kernel issue (maybe even the previous generation's SOD problem?)
Appreciate any help!
Matan.

The problem seems to be getting worse, now it happens a few times a day,
I read some and thought it may have to do with the Sleep of Death.
If anyone knows anything about it I would be more than happy to know,
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply,
I'm running stock unrooted/modified XXUBMI5 firmware.
Hi,
same/similar problem on my P5200/10", stock not rooted firmware 4.2.2 - after cca a month of using random switch-off started, after another few weeks it was more and more frequent and the tab was usable only very hardly. my quess was some HW error like bad battery concact, as it happened mostly during tab movement/shaking/turn arounds etc.
Sent back to vendor to reclaim, back after a month with factory reset and message "problem not reproducible". and really, it was not happening(!)
Another week or two has passed since then - and random switch offs are again back, now also when there is no movement (i.e. overnigth). I am planning to try to save some logs to find why it happens (some bad application?) or at least to prove to vendor it really happens. then I will try also another factory reset (however, I do not like to setup it again and again and backup/restore might not work, if it is caused by some app ).
When this happened to me on a previous device, it turned out to be SD card related. The SD card would unmount and that would apparently freeze my tab, usually shutting it down. Then again I was using a swapfile and had most of my apps installed to the SD card. But I figured I'd mention.

Hi,
Same here - no SD card involved.
I can update that "somehow" those random shutdowns did not occur in the past few days (where before it happened a few good times a day)
I can also say that when the device is connected to a charger no shutdowns whatsoever.
Also, in the past few days battery is draining much faster than before.
Personally I think it is the battery, October's bad battery batch of the S4/S3 reminded me that this could be the issue here as well.
Tried to look online for a battery replacement to buy, but without any luck so far.
alfi_ , if you have any new info I would very much like to know
Thanks!

Hi,
so far nothing special - as it does not happen while on charger, also log via USB is useless. and the log via TCP is empty.
what I have seen in discussions / heard from more experienced people, incl. the branded service partner, it can be often caused by some additional application (for me its hard to believe. and if the same happens to PC computer, it will definitely be a reason to return the device). but anyway I would suggest you to make a backup and try the factory reset too. then test it for some time without any new installed application.
for my one it looks little better after reset (weird behaviour), but it still randomly shuts down. then I am going to visit a service center personally to present there the behaviour, but it may take some time..
Hi,
the problem was reproducible also in the service center with factory setting without any other application installed, so after a month the tab is back with replaced mainboard (part gh82-07643a) - and so far no problem. hopefully it will not repeat anymore
I've been experimenting the same issue. Sm t311, stock unrooted rom.
It happens when the device is sleeping, it just fails to come back.
I've seen it happen with and without sd card, with and without power cord attached. It doesn't seem to be related with the sleeping timespan either.

one, maybe useful info when this happens, which I was not aware of - androids v4.1 and newer have the possibility to boot into "safe mode", where all additional installed applications are disabled. so before you try factory reset and reinstall/reconfigure all applications, you can try also this. (I am wondering this option was not told me by the service). on tab 3 10" you can reach it while booting and the logo is shown, press and hold both volume keys.

I seen a post somewhere that samsung forgot to secure the battery terminal, on some tabs. I have the pics of the teardown, in case I ever needed them. I'll post a link. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rg53ls0004rgdjr/ARJ-ecv2NA/teardown (1)

Here is the original post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593766
After troubleshooting this issue and discarding possible causes such as charching problem, smart cover side effect, defective sd, etc etc, I had given up on my T311 and decided to start experimenting with some custom roms (after all, it's painless to brick a defective tablet). Somehow, after flashing FastDream the issue disappeared.
It has run for 27 hrs straight without turning itself off.

Hi, I have problem with my Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 gt p 5200.
Tablet without noticeable reason began randomly shut down by itself.
Sometimes in an hour goes off 5-6 times, and sometimes working 5-6 hours without turning off.
Tablet can not be sent to the service because it was purchased abroad.
On it is the original untouched Android 4.2.2.
I tried a factory reset and re-flash with the latest android from sammobile.com , but it didn't help.
Does anyone has a similar problem or solution.
Thanks in advance

[Q] Device reboots after SIM unlock

Hi all,
recently my D855 with v20T (root/xposed) started to sort of randomly reboot. It seems like once the device gets too hot, it's gone.
Happens rarely during general usage, often while playing a game, and especially often when starting the camera.
But it behaves strangely in general: if I do *not* unlock the SIM (and thus can't use the phone), the device runs forever, without a reboot, no matter what the device temperature is. Same for recovery (TWRP), it can stay there for hours and heat up however it likes, no reboot.
Removing the SIM and/or microSD does not make a difference, battery level does not matter.
I pulled a backup of the stock ROM, wiped everything (system, data, cache, dalvik) and flashed Fulmics 5.
Unlocking worked once or twice, the next time I entered my SIM pin, the lock screen showed, then reboot. This behaviour (unlock SIM, reboot) repeats endlessly. If I leave it turned off for 10-15 minutes - or sitting at the SIM unlock screen - it most of the time works fine after unlocking.
Wiped again, flashed robalm's v30F ROM.
Guess what, exactly the same.
On both variants, the phone got rather hot during the "optimizing app x of 190" screen, but never rebooted, only after I unlocked the SIM.
Let it sit overnight on the unlock screen, no reboot at all. Unlocked this morning, added my google account, rebooted - same thing again.
It's starting to drive me crazy, now it froze right in the middle of setting up the google account after another clean flash.
Is the phone prone for repair, or can anyone think of another solution to this weird issue?
Edit: Fun fact: if I manage to do the lock screen swipe before the SIM lock screen comes up, the phone reboots instantly as well.
Edit2: Followed the instructions from this thread to go back to completely stock v20T. Rebooted after optimizing apps before I could even choose a language, ran seemingly fine after this, started bootlooping after the first manual reboot. A full wipe later (volDn+Power) it at least boots. What the hell?
Thank you and best regards,
Sub
I have similar problem. Cant connect issue with exact cause, but it restarts almost every few minutes of use. Camera launch causes restart almost immediately. Phone is unusable. My VolDn button is not working so I'm currently a bit afraid to try anything new... I updated from Fulmics4.1 (i havent got reboot problems since last 1,5week ago) to 5.1 but issue persists even after full wipe. Seriously dont know what to think about it.
At first I thought that reboots are caused by low power (much more frequent with battery under 30%), then maybe big cpu load or high brightness.... now basically everything causes reboots. Im really annoyed this phone been crap since day one...
I havent tried your sim unclocking method as my doesnt have pin security etc. Let me know if you will find out solution.

Just received the device back from LG, they replaced the mainboard, even got a new IMEI and v30c preinstalled.
It is the same case, with the protective glass on top and a dent on the left plus the 2-3 micro-cracks around the frame.
Not sure if they swapped the battery. The problem showed up again with anywhere between 50 and 15 percent battery left.
Unfortunately I only tested it after leaving the shop, after a long walk to the bus which I caught just in time.
Setup assistant completed -> reboot.
Google setup nearly completed -> reboot.
Removed SIM and MicroSD, started phone, started camera, made a movie -> reboot.
Wiped again (strange enough, v30c only has 61 applications to optimize while v20* has 190+?), tried again, same thing.
Next, after letting the back camera take a movie for 2-3 minutes, I wanted to adjust display brightness to the max.
Result: see screenshot. This also happened with the cable plugged in.
I will return it for repair once more tomorrow...
Anyway, thank you for your answers

It's a common thing if you use camera specially if you take video in 4k mode your phone heat up and you can't use full brightness in stock rom it's a feature try moded thermal config...also try new battery if battery percentage suddenly dropped it seems battery issue because i face the same problem....

I used to have thermals installed, the 75 dregrees Celsius variant, iirc.
Everything else was at stock, except for one short excursion to CM12 and one to ... some custom ROM.
Think I never actually took 4k videos, and the first 1,5 years the phone got a bit warmer but never really hot. Only recently it started to get really hot especially when using the camera, this also consistently was what could cause the reboot loops for sure. Other candidates were a few games which use more processing power like Alto's Adventure.
The battery drops by 2-3% after a reboot, because of the load the phone has (and the heat it develops during boot).
Anyway, I added the screenshot to the next repair request, and the woman at the counter said they'd look into the battery specifically (it seems to give out too much voltage, she said), but also check everything else once more.
I'll let them repair up to three times, then ask for a replacement, should be legal within 2 years after purchase in Germany.
Also, next time I'll take the 15 minutes (before doing a 1h/direction trip) to factory reset the phone, set it up and start the camera. If it reboots during any of this -> return, repeat.
Regards,
sub
Received my phone back from LG, finally.
Battery's broken - it outputs too much power.
Ordered a new battery and just put it in, so far no reboots during setup.
At least this got me a new mainboard and new IMEI

Hahahahahahahahaha
I just wondered why the phone shows 25 GB free everywhere, even without SD.
Turns out, during repair instead of replacing the 16GB/2GB board with an identical one, they installed the 32GB/3GB board

Note 4 only powers on when left without battery for hours, days

Hi guys-
So, about a year ago (maybe after the Marshmallow update), my Note 4 started bogging down, freezing, restarting randomly, etc. At some point I couldn't even get it to power on in spite of battery pulls, manual drain holding the power button, etc. This after many cache clearings, resets, etc. It seemed dead.
Sickened, I went back to a dumb phone last year. A couple weeks ago I got the Note 4 out of storage, and much to my surprise, when I plugged it in, it started to charge. It powered on. It seemed revived and good as new! But after a few days, the freezing started again, and also once again, it sometimes would not power on unless I left the battery out for hours. I installed Wakelock, which seems to have resolved most of the freezing, lagging, and resetting issues, but if the phone ever does reset or power down, I may be unable to power it on for days.
Is there anything I'm missing? Ocassionally it will reboot or start up with a memory error and the android symbol (do not turn off target!). Does this mean that part of my memory has failed and it's all up to chance whether the phone will work or not? It seems so strange that it works perfectly most of the time now that I have Wakelock installed. I would try rooting if I could, but it seems like that's still not a permanent option with this Att version. I'd also trade it in for 85 bucks a the att store, but if they try rebooting it, I'm 98% certain it won't power back on. Uhg.
Any advice is appreciated!
i've had similar issues that were solved by using a new battery. its not definitely the problem but it worth a shot.
Thanks! I rotate through 3 batteries, so I figured it wouldn't be that, but I'll give it a shot.

I am facing the same. One of the senior member @norbarb suggested to clean the firmware through ODIN and updaing phone through sd card manually. I am yet to figure out how to perform this solution. but below is the link of his great work. See if that benefits you. Do thank him and others who contributed to this work.

Phone keeps rebooting randomly without power connection

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a definite answer anywhere. So my Lenovo Z2 plus which is rooted and was flashed with Flyme OS. I was playing pubg and halfway through the game, my phone rebooted. I thought maybe my battery drained but I tried to reboot anyway thinking that atleast it will boot up to show 0% battery, but it didn't. After plugging it in, it would work again for sometime then randomly reboot. And when I would reboot it myself, it stops right after the logo.it only moves further if I plug in the charger. So if it's a battery problem, why does it always reboot at that precise moment. And when it reboots randomly, it's not even hot - the screen, the back, anything. Sometimes it works for hours and would suddenly stop, sometimes it works only for a few minute after unplugging. There's no specific app that triggers this. I even changed the ROM to AEX 5.8, and the problem persists. Is it genuinely a battery problem or is it related to bootloader or anything. Because it does not reboot while in twrp. Any help would be appreciated

Did you get any solution?
Mine also started with PUBG.
My phone gets hot first and then keeps rebooting, so I switch it of and wait 10 mins .
I even clean flashed AEX 6.6 Rom, but it still persist.
Now if I use my camera also I can't click a single picture, it just starts rebooting again and again.
Please help me if you have found any solution.

Okay, so guys - I am using POCO F1, Started having this same issue yesterday, on the internet, I found - this is a hardware issue, and the solution is to get a new battery,
So I went to the Xiaomi Service center, Their engineer said the same, this is a dead battery issue. So I bought a new battery - and the phone is working fine.
so Final Solution = Get New Battery
Original/local - Whatever fits your budget

K8 Note repeated sudden switch off.

I have the K8 Note phone with Android 8 and security path level : 5 March 2019
My phone is switching off unexpectedly and when I switch it on, it boots up to the lock screen and then switch off immediately. This is repeating at different times for different actions and I cant identify a pattern to replicate it. If I keep the phone connected to the charger then this issue doesn't happen. When I remove it from the charger it will switch off when I try to open some app or sometimes when receiving calls or making calls. It also happens when I open the app drawer. I have done a factory reset and also booted to safe mode, but still the issue is there. All these switch offs happened when the phone was not connected to the charger and the battery charge is more the 50%. I am not sure if the phone is showing the correct battery levels. Also I am not sure if any of the google apps is causing this issue. Can someone help me solve this issue?
So nobody has this problem ? or no one wants to reply?
i also have this problem & many users too after the last oreo update
i try every thing to solve it hard rest , downgrade & custom roms and every thing but does not work !

I didnt try any custom rom. I cannot find any official response from Lenovo about this issue. I will never buy Lenovo products again, and actively discourage people from buying.

I had exact same issue. Replacing the battery solved the issue. If you go to Lenovo Service Center, they will tell you that, it is a motherboard issue. But in reality it is a battery issue.

Yes, if your phone doesn't switch off when connected to charger and switches off suddenly as soon as you unplug or after a few minutes. Then probably the battery is at fault and needs to be replaced.
