Hey I currently havea Western Digital 500gig external hard drive formatted as HFS and I tried plugging it in to my USB cable and nothing appeared. Does anyone know of a way to get the GS3 to recognize HFS-formatted drives over USB OTG?

You would need a custom kernel that has built-in support for the filesystem. Same thing goes for NTFS.
I installed the one click root+Flash+busybox+usb fix and everything successfully installed but now when I connect any flash drive or external harddrive they are not seen. I formatted both to fat32 and they are not seen. Anyone have any tips on fixing this?
Been trying to mount a usb hard disk and usb stick but no luck.
Are you using a compatible kernel? With a OTG Y Cable?

Using FAK kernel 1.3.6 and yes using Y cable, usb hub, keyboard, mouse, gamepad all working.
I'm also forced to reboot after using otg else I cannot charge or access files on the phone.
Does that mean you can now access your USB storage devices?

No - other devices work fine. but not usb storage devices.
Even rebooting does not allow me to access or mount usb storage devices.
If i have a usb storage device connected and I reboot some random apps disappear... until I disconnect otg and reboot again.
Hi,
i have a problem with mass storage on wildfire s 2012 (s-on, rooted ,cwm 5 recovery).
The problem is on 2 roms (only 2 that i flashed on wfs), but these situations are bit different:
1. For a some time, i was using owl project (i mean android 4.2.2) , and when i connect usb cable, i have an option to enable usb mass storage, but my computer doesn't see sd card.
2. Then i flashed Marvellous Sense 3.5 (7-10-13...the newest release anyway) (full wipe before of course), when i connect usb cable, the phone only charges, there is no popup or sth to select usb connection options.
Both problems, are not present at the first usb plugging, after flashing a rom, they appear after next ones.
Maybe this can be helpfull tip: mounting usb mass storage in recovery setting doesn't work too (when i want to copy anything to the phone, i need to reflash and boot a "fresh" rom).
I was searching the solution on ROM threads but, there is no mention of any usb problem.
I'm sure the usb cable is working properly, i've tried it to connet other phones and all is working properly.
I believe that someone will help me, I'm noob in Wildfire S, thanks in advance

Have you tried plugging the SD card on your PC via a card reader? There could be a problem with the phone's MicroUSB port. Also try using another cable if you have one.

It looks like wutg, the phone's MicroUSB port is something wrong.
I tried both Nebrassy's and Vasishath's TWRP. In both the cases the OTG isn't working at all. I can't copy/paste anything from the usb to phone or from phone to USB. Although the storage is visible once I mount.
Vasishath's has issues where it duplicates the storages and otg. Can anyone verify if there's a twrp build where OTG works properly?
My USB is fine since it works fine on the phone (in OS) and windows properly.
both twrp don't have otg support
