If I install LineageOS without GAPPs and don't sign into Google, can I still be tracked by Google with Location set to "on" in the Settings menu?
I'm using the 3-31 build of LineageOS for Nexus 6 Shamu. On boot, I see the Google logo before the LineageOS logo. I installed LineageOS and some other apps with F-Droid, but nothing from Google on my own. I did not have to sign in to a Google account to finish set-up.
Are there other steps I can or should take so Google can't track me?
While I'm writing: I'm a happy, grateful user of LineageOS, and want to thank those moving the project forward since the demise of CyanogenMod.

I get a message that google play is not installed. It was removed due to constant error messages. How do I restore it and its associated files such as google services? Is there a location where I can obtain the files not via google because I am unable to go into the google account via the phone even though the two step security system is off. I am asked to choose the name of the account I want to use to recover google play, I click ok and the phone does not open the account. I fail to reinstall google play for that reason at least. I have tried creating a new google account but could not do so from the phone.
My phone: Samsung GT-18160
OS: Cyanogenmod 11-20-20141214-unoficial-codina
Android version: 4.4.4
Status of phone: Rooted

Unfortunately I used Titanium to remove google services because I was following advice that said if I restart the phone after having removed google services it will be reinstalled automatically. That did not happen.

Is it too early for me to ask if could possibly have a reply to my question about reinstalling google play?

Unable to add new apps
I am unable to access google play. Is there another way of accessing new apps that does not rely upon backdoor access to google play?
Device: OnePlus3
TRWP: 3.1.0.0
Rom: lineage-14.1-20170511-nightly-oneplus3-signed.zip
gapps: open_gapps-arm64-7.1-mini-20170514.zip
Root: addonsu-arm64-signed.zip
webview: Android System WebView 59.0.3071.49 beta (arm64 + arm)
After entering user/pass in google play app and clicking "i agree" its says "checking info"...... NO error but does't store google credentials and google play store and other google apps are not working.
Tried:
http://www.lineageosrom.com/2017/02/how-to-fix-google-play-services-error.html Settings, Developer Options -> WebView Implementation, and select “Google WebView.”
Tried:
several combinations of last couple versions of lineage roms, gapps and webview implementations, playstore still not working :crying:
Tried:
formated & wiped device several times
Anybody suggestions ??
Hi all.
I've tried to set up my work profile on lineageos and here is what i came up to:
The process is as follows:
1. I got a gemini (Xiaomi Mi5) device with latest LineageOS nightly and opengapps installed before first boot.
2. To set up a work profile, my organization uses Mobicontrol from SOTI.
3. After authorization in Mobicontrol and creating work profile on device (which goes without issues, i.e. i get second settings app, files, phone, etc with a suitcase icon), i must add Google account to my work profile and here i get stuck.
As i can see, there is no Play Market/Services app with a suitcase icon, thus, no Play Services available in work profile and thus, I am unable to complete my work profile creation.
I guess, the issue is somewhere between opengapps and lineage as play services are not included when work profile gets generated.
Looks like opengapps are not counted as a system (or built-in) application.
Is there any workaround to include gapps to work profile?
I have this same issue. My work uses MobileIron to setup the Work profile. It tries to set it up, but fails complaining that 'Google Play services aren't available', which I believe is the same failure mechanism observed here.
Any updates?

What's the best way to install Google Play on the locked Chinese ROM?
I see some tutorials referring to a "Google Installer" but if possible I'd prefer not to use this as it looks a bit dodgy to me.
I've tried installing Google Play Services and Google Play Store from APKMirror but the Play Store is not opening.
Specifically I installed
Google Play Services 12.8.78 for arm64-v8a + armeabi-v7a
Google Play Store 11.4.15
I got it working by installing Google Contact Sync, Service Framework and Account Manager.
1. Download Google Installer apk from: here
2. run the app and install every thing it asks
3. go to permissions manager and give every google app (sync, services, etc.) every permission
4. allow auto start for every google app (sync, services, etc.)
5. Run google play, let it update it self and its play services
6. enjoy
Open Chinese app store and search for: Google Play store and scroll to find it.
It will install all necessary files and you will need to reboot before all errors stop.

Reason to Use China Rom on Mi Max 3
Can somebody pls tell me if it's worth getting the china rom and staying on it, and just side installing the google apps?
I have noticed that some things do not work so well when you sideload google services on china rom.
Sync contacts do not work, UI is full of chinese characters, some chinese application services work in the background and can not be shut down...
Overall it's not bad, but i would definitely install the global version as soon as it goes out.

Contact sync works for me. You need to go into the Contact Manager app entry in Installed apps and enable all permissions for it.
Contact Sync and Calendar Sync never worked for me no matter what I tried....
Until I factory reset the phone and started from scratch...
Factory reset --> Google Installer from Mi Apps --> Google Login --> Sync --> GApp Permissions --> Reboot --> Sync
Things I did differently from before, not sure of they contributed to the success:
1) I factory reset and setup new phone with sim card in the device (previously had not yet changed mine to a nano sim)
2) Disabled Google's 2 Step Authentication during initial setup and sync (will turn them back on once everything works)
Good day. I decided to write down the points as I solved the problem. Now I have absolutely all applications updated including Google. This is a common problem for the owners of any device (ours is not an exception) working on Android 5.0. Google knows about this problem but does nothing, in fact, like htc.
1. The first thing I did was install the firmware from balla241. Firmware is clean European. Added superuser and some jokes. I like. After installation, do not connect to the network and do not enter your Google account.
2. Next, the market has been updated. Google play store 13.7.15
3. Next, manually install Google services 15.0.90 I downloaded the latest available.
4. After that, we reboot the phone, enter the Google account and enjoy a fully working phone.
