HTC 10 Topaz Gold but home button is black - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi all
I just bought a used HTC 10 gold but the home capacity button is black. Is it possible that it was replaced by another phone?
The black button is working perfectly btw
And one more thing, when press hard this 'button' moves a little. Is this normal?
Thanks for your time

I think the phone had the home button / fingerprint scanner replaced.
Does the fingerprint scanner work properly?
I too have a Gold HTC 10, and the front is all white.

It actually looks good haha. The button is not supposed to move though.

Yes its strange but it works

I've read posts about the button being a bit loose, and it pushing it on the left side, IIRC.
If I can find the thread I will edit this post.
It's hard to tell but it looks like the button is above, like a samsung button. (prob just the pic)
P.S. I like the black look.

Does the button have a silver trim? If so i would suggest it's a Samsung button. Looking at the picture it does seem to have a silver trim. Doe the finger print scanner work?

Two of them, bought the same day, hardware never messed with.
Something wrong with Tapatalk, I can't upload pics directly, so linls are in the post

I take it the trim is on the shell of the phone rather than the button itself

The button only move/loose when pressed hard. But normal use we dont press on it so its Ok.
The only thing is its color is different w the surface. And it bugs my eye LOL

As I remember only the black front don't have silver trim

Back button flaming....

Does anyone else have any issue with the back button flaking? The arrow isn't as Sharp anymore it's more like a like with a splodge for and arrow.
Can show a picture if you want to see what I mean

Mine is very similar. It isn't flaking, but the silver paint is almost completely rubbed away. The rest of the buttons are completely fine.
It's only a small problem, but I love this phone too much to replace it
Happening the exact same thing with my donnow why or what I can do to prevent it from flaking even more! this sucks cause I didnät even know that the buttons had some sort of cheap coating on them
are yours ingraved or just painted on? Mines are ingraved and with alot of use it doesn't seem to be rubbing off..

Yep, exactly this. Bought late March and the first wear was this by early August. The whole end of the top arrow pointer has flaked off on the back button and I've never used nails for pressing it for such to exacerbate the wear nor let the phone get wet or leave exposed to above typical heat (etc).

My back button is fine, but the home button started to peel a bit
Maybe some batches of buttons are different ? Mine don't have this issue, but are starting to be unresponsive if I don't push quite hard on them.
Can confirm that button finishes do vary between Desires. I held my phone side by side with one in a Carphone Warehouse yesterday and noticed that the CW model had darker, shinier gunmetal buttons (like the black Desires?) whereas mine has the more matte, light grey buttons which have texture. I haven't had any issues with mine peeling thus far.

Capacitive Home Button - Light Leak

Hi,
I've recently bought an HTC One V and I noticed that the LED light below the capacitive home button is leaking, even when viewed on a normal angle.
The other capacitive buttons does this as well but only at an extreme angle.
Any of you experiencing this?
TIA!

I just had my unit replaced. No more light leak below the capacitive home button.
I wanted to post images of it, but I need 8 posts to be able to do so.
Anyhow, buyers might want to check the unit first by covering the light sensor on top (to make the capacitive buttons glow).
Thanks for the views XDA people.
I want to make the capacitive lights bright in daylight also, how do I do that?
hey!
guess what? i had the same EXACT problem, except the leak under my multitask button was visible at even normal view. hopefully i'll get my device replaced by a new one tomorrow too.
what did the guys say to you btw? like what all did they ask? just keen to know!
thanks!

I just showed them the unit. They really didn't say anything nor did they argue. Although I did struggle as the store's lights were very bright, so I had to go under a desk just to be able to show it to them (a bit awkward I have to say).
We had to compare with a new unit and it didn't have the light leak below the home button; but when I got home I noticed that it had the leak somewhere else (it looks like a hot pixel, but when you look at it, it's not really part of the screen but in between the glass and the LCD, which is weird). Will go back tomorrow for another replacement.
I guess if you're getting a replacement, try it immediately at a dark place / room to check for light leaks.
i got my unit replaced today!
no more defects anymore, i checked everything before getting home..
how bout you?

The store only had three units on stock.
First and second one both have light leaks, and the third one had yellow spots on the upper left part of the screen + a silvery dot inside the screen sandwiched between the glass also on the upper left corner.
I cancelled my purchase and decided to just buy again when they have sufficient stock of units without defects, or maybe once screen protectors and cases become readily available from retailers.
sir can I know where did you buy One V? I'll buy one this May..just in case..don't end up there
is the attached screenshot below a white leak??
the white leak is very visible on a black background at the bottom of the screen, also the top of the screen has little white leak too.
should i replace this one to the store?

I can find the light leak on mine (in the USB port) in the dark if I'm looking at the phone from beneath it. I suppose some people use their phones that way a lot!
That's so the dust can get in. I think its normal. I have light leak as well in the same spots.

Changing HTC One X housing from Grey to White

I bought a grey One X, but decided that I should have bought the white, and so I purchased the rear casing and sim card tray from ebay.
All installed perfectly and my phone is working without issues, however the thing that did hit me as strage was after rebooting device with the white casing on, the handset reported a software update for the device (not an app update) of which I said ok.
Can't see any difference in what it reports in About this phone in regards to Software, and so was wondering is it possible that by changing the rear housing it also changes the CID of the device ?
Using CID reports HTC__001 ??
I know this is probably a newb question, however this phone is my first serious Android device other than my old Nook Color.... So if i'm making gaf's please excuse them.
Thank you.
Cool to know that you can change the outlook like that. Might want to buy one back just in case i want to try grey or white gets dents. Thanks!

Could you please post a few pictures of how your phone looks with the new housing? Preferably from the front, rear and side.
I've been considering something similar as well. Glad to know it can be done.

I'll upload a few for you shortly. Though it just looks like a white one X
Here you go folks.
Basically genuine HTC housing replacement, very simple to do. You have to order the sim card seperatly so make sure you order one at same time.
The phone pops out of the housing with a little bit of prying and put a little bit of sticky tape on the volume rocker and power button so that they dont drop on the floor when you remove your phone from the housing as otherwise you could end up missing a little part.
The trickiest part is popping out the speaker from the old housing and dropping it into the new. I used a pin to pop it out of the hole it sits in and then just dropped it into the new housing.
Squeeze your phone in and it will click into place. remove the tape on the outside holding the volume rocker and power button and hey presto new phone
And if I can do it, anyone can
Cool, thank you!
Is there any tutorial for the replacing?
How much did you payed for the case and the sim tray?
Link to where can I buy one for my one x?

Also note the back cover has self adhesive areas that need exposing before installing, and the inside of the camera lens has a blue plastic protection film that needs removing. Because it is clear plastic covering the self adhesive areas it can be missed and your back cover will not be fitted as well as the original.
Self adhesive areas are:
1) The whole area that essentially covers the battery has a plastic film cover that needs removing to exposed the adhesive.
2) The USB hole has a raised support that has a small plastic strip that needs removing to exposed the adhesive
3) At the bottom left and right sides of the back cover inside edge are small sticky areas, again the plastic film needs removing.
In terms of software updates because the back is changed, it was just a co-incidence, the back cover has no intelligence in it to alter serial numbers etc.
Regards
Phil

Yep great advice
It's easy to see where the self adhesive areas are simply because of the bright blue sticky plastic that was on my white case/housing inside.

Yes I would think the white is much more obvious. If you have a new grey back, the film doesn't stand out at all.

Where did you order your parts? On ebay I could only find parts for e720 (or something like that, the chinese one x)
If you are opening your device, I would highly recommend that you read the Official HTC WiFi antenna repair guide as you might want to add those strips in to strengthen the contacts.

Bought the phone on impulse second hand for a good price,. So saved €289.99 off the regular sim-free price on expansys.... When there was that much of a saving, I wasn't going to argue about the color
(checks Expansys pricing, actually it was €309.99 price difference between what I paid for the grey and the white sim-free model there)....
Just a bit of info for you regarding opening up your One X (housing removal). This is part of an email reply that I received from HTC warranty in the UK, when I asked about opening up my One X to check something.
We would not advise you to take the phone apart as this will invalidate your warranty.

Q: Circle/Spot in bottom section. Sensor?

When I was wiping down the screen nicely before applying a screen protector I noticed in the bottom section, not where there is screen, theres a slight mark. As if something is behind it.
Its directly in the middle, aligned with the center of the Home softbutton, about and inch or so below the home button.
Seems like maybe a sensor, but I dont know. Anyone else notice this?

Home button crooked?

Hello,
I've this phone and the device is incredible. The only esthetic defect I found is related with the capacitive button not being perfectly aligned. Indeed it's crooked. My HTC golden has this defect and also the black edition that Android Central reviewed if you carefully look at some pictures they published.
Is your home button crooked or misaligned like mine? Please take a look at the button itself and to the borders or frames. Other than that the home button and fingerprint scanner work okay.

Mine doesn't look crooked but I can often feel it move and makes a clicking sound. This usually occurs after tapping the lower part of the screen just above the button.
