So, my S2 would occasionally overheat, then hotboot and just hang on the boot animation, so I would have to pull the battery.
This morning same thing happened so I pulled the battery, and I'm sure it burned out.
Main signs:
1: plugging into the wall, the phone just vibrates "on" every 3-4 seconds.
2: holding the power button to turn it on, it vibrates, then nothing.
3: holding volume buttons, it vibrates, flashes "samsung" then nothing.
4: i haven't tried download mode, but I wouldn't expect much.
I just wanna know if there's any way to access the internal memory, and try to pull off any files I can.
Luckily I did a nandroid backup yesterday, so I can get everything back to normal pretty quick, but getting everything I had saved would be nice.
Hi there cavemaneca...
From my experience with Samsung devices, I find that when they are in a state of very low charge their usability takes a ****. I have had this experience on 3 different Samsung devices, the Infuse (I997), the T-Mobile S989, and the (Vibrant?) Roommate's T-Mob Galaxy 4S phone. One particualr issue is that when the battery is in the red, and it is actively plugged into a charger, the touch screen becomes either completely non responsive at all, or the touchmove events get all corrupted in weird counter intuitive directions. This happens until the battery is around the yellow areas, somewhere like +15% or +20%.
I have also consistently encountered your specific issue, in which a Samsung phone, once drained dry, will not actually appear to be charging, but rather just give steady *buzz* *buzz* *buzz* for what seems to be an indefinite amount of time. This however, for myself, has always self corrected after some time. I suggest the following two parts to the solution:
1) Get a strong enough charger base plug thing. For lack of the appropriate lingo, I use either of the following:
This grey base charger from T-Mobile directly for androids with the extra usb port on board. Good charging rate...
OR
Your standard HTC charger base
2)Once you have gotten a strong charger connected directly to it., GO DO SOMETHING ELSE. I recommend Dark Knight Rises, Cabin In The Woods, possibly the new Todd Solondz film with Christopher Walken, or Ted. I would bet good money that when you return, your phone will have stopped vibing and will be nearly charged. It's happened to me on this phone way more often than I would care to admit...
Salutations!
99% sure your phone isn't bricked. Your phone vibrates and flashes the Samsung logo... It's not bricked. it might be a battery problem try a different battery or charger, i used a bad cable and it took forever for it to finally hold enough charge to boot up.
But yeah try getting into download mode... Connect into a computer holding +/- buttons, it should boot into it automatically.

Whether you can go into download mode IS the sign if you are bricked or not. Though, it sounds like a battery issue.

Thanks for all of the replies!
This is my first Samsung device, I'm use to HTC devices that brick pretty easy.(had about 4 or so so far that bricked)
It turns out that out of the 2 micro-usb plugs I had on my desk, one wasn't plugged into the wall, so I thought it had been charging all night but it just ran it completely dead, coupled with the fact that it had frozen in a bootloop.
It took over an hour, but it's at least showing signs of life now (still says 0%). I guess my device just needed that day off...
Probably your charger, time to invest in a new one.

It feels like it was yesterday that this was happening to me. Now if your phone boots up the logo and goes black to continue vobrating, your power button could be at fault.

Hello XDA members. I have a very troublesome issue with my galaxy tab 3 7.0 inch tablet. It will NOT turn on at all, no battery charging, no device power on, no comp recognition, nothing. I have already tried:
Letting it charge overnight (factory charger along with others) with several known working cables
Unplug battery for 5 minutes
Press and hold power, Vol Down, and home for 10 sec, 30 sec, and 1 minute
Press and hold power and vol down for 10,30,60 seconds.
I sent it in for repair and they wouldnt fix it because it's rooted. When I got it back it briefly turned on to the battery charging, but nothing since. I'm thinking there must have been some way they got it on.... All proper drivers are installed on PC and it's never been dropped, water damaged, etc.
Would anyone be able to provide insight as to why and provide a fix?
My 8 inch tab 3 wasn't coming on either a few days back, I got it back on by holding home and the power button for a while. I was about to give upwhen the battery charging image came on. I think I did the same again and it came on normally.

Was that from computer or wall?
From wall, it was about 3/4 charged by then

Still no luck... I can feel the tablet getting hot down at the charge port so I know it's charging, and i know the lcd isn't damaged.
Mine is in the same condition. Anyone know how or why this happens and how to fix it?

Not sure if this will help, but just like with phones, sometimes android tablets just need a battery pull. My kids xo tablet went dead and before I tossed it in the trash I took the housing off and had to clip the + wire since it was soldered to the board. Twisted it back together to check and sure enough the tablet powered on like normal. Ive had to pull the battery on an Sm-t217a and it was a lot easier. They have a removable clip that attaches to the board.

I think it might be the battery itself. Just for giggles I left it plugged in for days and i just checked back on it and the Battery charging screen kept flashing on and off. Won't hold any charge. Probably will just order a new battery and see what happens. I pulled the battery a couple times and nothing happened. Closer inspection found that the tech that looked at it damaged the battery cord (unless it came with the copper on the wiring already exposed...)

You might be right about the battery being dead, although they usually don't just go all at once like that. The charge indicator flashing is odd. The only thing close I've seen is an "x" over the icon when there aren't enough amps (my tab needs 2 amps. 1 amp chargers and some pc usb ports give me the x.
If you have an old cable you can cut, you could try to charge the battery itself to see if it takes a charge (or at least use a multimeter on it to check for voltage). Then you could narrow it down a bit to whether it is the battery or possibly the charge port/hardware..... I saw a bit of exposed wire just before the clip of mine too, made me extra careful pulling the clip up.

I wouldn't even know where to start with the wiring. Multimeter isn't something I have access to, and it seems a little complicated for me to spend time on.
When I say it's flashing, I mean the device powers on to the battery charging screen, then dies, wash rinse repeat. If I go into recovery, same thing. It all happens within a couple seconds, so it's hard to describe.
My dad has one that I can pull the battery from, I might do that. Batteries are like 20 bucks on amazon, so I think I'll test with my Dads and if it works just order a battery and report back here.
similar problem here

My daughters tab 3 7 inch T210 also refuses to start. First time it was fixed by opening the device and disconnecting the battery. Now that doesn't help anymore. If I attach the original charger and measure the voltage when the device has rested for some months I can see that the voltage slowly rises so it seems to do the charging even if there is no sign of charging on the screen. After some hours of charging I measure 3,78V on the battery, after disconnecting the battery.
If I attach the battery and turn on the device I measure 3,76V before I push the start button and 3,74V directly after pushing the button. After about 15s the voltage goes back to 3,76V. Nothing happens on the screen... Tried with different combinations of pushing on-button and volume up, volume down, menu....
So -the best thing would of course be a quick visit to local shop to buy a new device of another brand but for some reason I refuse to give up.
Any advice would be appreciated.
(I Have made no significant modifications but the 4-year old daughter may have contributed in an unknown way )

The better way to test if your tablet can turn on: buy a new battery, under $15 on Ebay since your old battery is dead or completely drained.
Use the new battery to turn on your tablet. If it's on, check the build number of your device after go to About My Device: if it's not end with OB1, the latest firmware which fix charging issue.
It's more likely your build number is MK1 to NI1, the build numbers count by alphabet order. Upgrade the software via Wifi, battery must be at least 25%, otherwise your tablet won't allow you to upgrade. Bring the firmware to the current OB1, your tablet should take charge normally, otherwise the USB charging port is defective or damaged. This micro USB is cheap, around $2, but it need to solder to motherboard to replace the defective one.
Purchased as a Christmas gift a couple of weeks ago and worked great out of the box. It was put on the charger at the end of the day to charge. Next day come back to the tablet only to find it will not power on.
Tablet gives no indication that is plugged into the original charger. Pressing and holding the power and volume up to try and access the bootloader provided no response.
Calling this one bricked unless anyone else has thoughts or suggestions. Have seen this with other Android devices in the past but where going on 3 years old. This guy is only a couple weeks old. 1 day powered on even.
Can you try a different charger? How much battery was left when you put it on the charger?
Couldn't say what the battery percentage was at, it wasn't dead though. I was given the tablet back to try and troubleshoot and only have as much info as I was given.
As for the charger, this is my one and only USB Type C device and only have the original charger it came with. I was told however that a type c cable was used from a laptop to see if anything worked. No response I am told.
Have a few days to wait until I can RMA it. I will see if I can source another power adapter.
there are many [upwards of 20 or so] reports that it takes between 15 and 20 seconds of holding power button down to power up the device. i have had it happen twice. the largest thread for this issue i have read is on reddit.
I've had it happened to me twice on my first unit and twice on my RMA'd one now. Every time it happened it was after leaving the tablet unattended for several (12+) hours, regardless of battery % (anywhere between 10 and 60%). I never turn it off to make sure I don't get the touchscreen issues again as these come back everytime I reboot the tablet but when this happens there isin't much I can do as it turns off by itself. I can confirm that a very long push of the power button (agree with the 15-20 seconds mentionned above) also does the trick for me. Same pattern on my first unit and my 2nd one.
I'm realllllly hoping Google will have a software fix for all of this (touchscreen issues, awful Wi-Fi download speeds/range on 2.4 Ghz and this (tablet going dead without any apparent reason and being hard to reboot)) as I want to love the tablet but it's a mess right now.
Thanks for the reports.
I held down the power button till my finger went numb. Still don't know if the tablet has a charge and if the charger even works.
Same thing happened with my GPe htc one. Charged, freaked out, rebooted and then bricked never to come back to life.
Would have been nice to have found reports of issues before. Every search brings up reviews however. Hopefully this thread gets indexed.
Don't know if this is related: I've had the tablet for about two weeks and have twice had it not turn on (or respond at all) when I pressed the power button (short press, long press--although possibly not >15s). Even though I thought there was well over 50% battery left and even though though tapping under the cute LEDs showed four greens, I plugged it in and just left it for hours. Then when I came back, everything was fine--it turned on immediately.
I know this is old thread, but though this might help someone: my pixel c won't charge unless I
1) with the device plugged in
2) hold power-vol up-vol dn all at the same time
3) un plug the cable
Can be hard to do with only two hands. "Charging" will pop up on the screen immediately for just a second when you pull the cable if you did it right. I often need to do it more than once. Thanks Google!

I've got a totally unresponsive G3 - it died on me unexpectedly. It had been a little "off" when I was setting it up - telling it to reboot sometimes required a VOLUME UP+DOWN+POWER to actually boot it up, had a tough time getting the LGFlashTool to work and ended up having to use imageprepGUI to achieve root/TWRP, had it trigger the "error: boot certification verify" trouble and had to walk it back with the Qualcomm drivers... anyhow, I finally got it all set up the way I wanted for one of my kids as a Christmas present and just after getting Lucky Patcher up and running (wiped the cache, installed a modded Google Play, etc) I asked my wife to charge it as it was on low power, around 10% or so. She plugged it in and...
Well, my son went to use it hours later and it was dead.
This thing is the deadest I've ever seen a phone. It doesn't respond to having a USB plugged in. I have two other LG G3s and swapped the batteries around - all of the batteries are charged and functional (including the one originally from the dead phone). It's the actual phone that appears dead. The LED doesn't respond to plugging in, there's no vibration on plugging it in, no combo of cables seem to work. Plugging it into a computer doesn't generate any response from my laptop or the phone.
I've brought phones and specifically LG G3s back from the underworld more than once, but this has me stumped. Any ideas? So far, Googling has offered up the following solutions:
1. Remove battery
Hold down power button 10s+ to drain phone entirely
Plug in battery
Allow to charge for 20min
Hold down power button for 10s+
2. Remove battery for extended period
Plug battery in
Turn phone on
I can tell you that method #1 doesn't work here. I'm about to try method #2... but I don't have a lot of hope.
Any other ideas?
I had that probleme 4 days ago, i fixed it by burning the internal memory with a Hair Drayer.
Don't burn the screen, you must burn only the emmc on the motherboard.
Hello everyone,
Thanks for always helping in times of trouble.
I was using my HTC one m8 normally, playing with facebook. The battery was on 82%. Suddenly the screen frooze then the whole phone went dead completely. Not even a screen backlight. I tried to power it up. It didn't work. It had original ROM, with no modifications whatsoever.
Here is what I did so far, without any results.
- Charge it for few days with original charger and cable directly from the wall. No sign of life. No charging flashing light.
- Charge it with another cable. Nothing.
- Tried to access the boot menu to wipe everything clean. Pressed power+volume down. Nothing. Dead Screen.
- Pressed power +volume up. Nothing. Dead Screen.
Pressed power + both volume buttons. Nothing. Dead Screen.
- Connect it to the computer with updated HTC Suite. The computer said no phone connected.
I using a crappy old iphone now, but would love to get this HTC back to life. Any past experience with similar situation?
Any tips to resuscitate the dead phone?
Thanks a lot for your help.
In some "stuck" or powered off conditions, you may need to hold the button combos for a minute or so, before it actually reboots. So make sure you are holding them long enough.
But the fact there isn't even a charge LED, is concerning. Even in brick conditions, you should get at least an orange/red LED (maybe blinking? Can't remember). Makes me think the battery is bad.
Also play around with the button combos with the charger connected. I've seen a couple folks have luck with this, when nothing else seemed to work.
Additionally, the phone won't connect to PC when powered down; even on a working phone. You at least need to get to a bootloader screen to connect to a PC in any way.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I tried to do as instructed but it didn't work. I held the buttons on different combinations for at least two minutes but the phone stayed dead.
The only changed I noticed is one point I saw a very weak charging flash then it quickly disappeared and never came up again even when I repeated the process. Does this say anything?

Hard to know if this means anything specific. The symptoms don't look good. Might be bad battery, or other hardware failure.
