My sister has a Desire and I modded it with a custom rom and hboot so that she can use ext3 for app data on SD. However, a week later, she told me that the desire no longer power on. The symptom are as follow:
1. when pull battery, and re-insert in, connect usb would charge with orange light and would turn green after an hour or so.
2. no other keys would response except power. Once power is pressed. Charging light would turn off and the bottom back of the machine would start heat up slowly.
3. No matter what I did, USB NEVER got any signal. (no fastboot, no adb, not even an unknown device detected.
4. No matter what I did, Nothing would come up on screen.
5. I am not sure if it is a amoled or slcd version.
6. the device is S-off.
Could anyone please tell if the device is completed bricked and I cannot fix it by myself? Thanks alot.

I have read it. But I didn't find anything relevant.
I have no screen and no fastboot. Could you please point out where I should focus in the Q&A?
Slowly heat up to abnormally hot temps or just heat up like phone running screen on for 20 mins?
If it is getting hot and nothing is working then their is probably a short inside and it is bricked and has 95% chance of having nothing to do with rooting.
If it just warms up and doesn't work then it probably has something to do with something she did or by chance you had a bad dl or something and it bricked. For you to have no hboot and no recovery to boot into makes it hard to believe it just happened.
Moral of the story is yes hard brick in my opinion. The only way to recover s phone is by USB and if you have no connection then their is a short or your device is literally wiped which is had to do.

can you boot in to recovery? Did ya try all usb ports on computer? And do u have the usb drivers installed on your computer for your phone?

It is a bit hotter than idle. But not heating up strongly like short circuit. I tried to created a gold card but I have no idea how it would help.

I cannot. Not even fastboot.
I have tried in many ports and I am sure I have installed HTC Sync / PDA Net / Galaxy Driver, etc...
So you only get the charging LED and nothing else? If you turn on your Desire nothing happens except that the LED goes out?

Yes, only led (green and orange representing battery state), and it turn off pressing power button, after that to have leds have to completly give no alimentation (unplug battery an also usb cable), if I plug on the usb and no battery, led fast blink green and orange...

I think it's a hardware failure. You should either get it to a service, or use it as a HTC battery charger
if you hold down volume down and power, do u get anything?

Maybe try this, I mean you dont have a lot to loose...
When your phone is supposed to be "ON" press volume down, power and the optical trackpad (between the menu and the back button). This should do a hard reboot, when the phone is on. When my Desire is freezes, I use this (instead of popping the battery).
I don't think it'll work, sounds like you have some kind of hardware malfunction, but one can never know. What is the harm in tryin'?
Hi there,
I'm having strange issues with DHD. I've read a few threads with issues like this, but symptoms are always slightly different.
Yesterday, I've connected it to the charger (the battery was empty), and when I tried to turn it on, it just did 3 vibrations and orange notif. LED started blinking. When connected to the USB, the Windows recognizes device as Qualcomm, and further reading suggested that the phone is entering service mode, which is normally accessible with Power + Vol+. I've also found out that volume rocker can be the issue, but in my case I don't see anything wrong with it, it's working and looking like before.
No matter what I did, it always did the same, it won't even go into recovery (Power + Vol-), screen always stays blank, the only activity I'm getting are flashing LEDs and vibrations.
Also, phone is charging when turned off (battery removed and reinserted). I've charged it for a few hours yesterday and the green LED was on.
And finally, when turned off, and plugged into the USB, after few seconds, adb devices will show the device, and after the serial number it says recovery. Does that mean that the phone booted into the recovery? The screen is still black though.
So, the most important thing for me is to find out is it possible to return the phone back to stock, in order to send it for a repair. And even better, a solution for the problem
I believe its a hardware problem, although adb says its in recovery. Any more ibfo you could give us? ROM, how you rooted it etc?

thanks don't hurt ya know?
Take off battery, connect phone to charger via USB for 3 minutes ,than insert battery put battery cover now u should see orange light ,now press power button and voila
It's an issue with the volume rocker I think
Had a very similar issue when I had IceColdSandwich on my DHD, only started when I flashed that Rom, reflashed a different Rom, everything is fine again!

I'm not sure that the issue is with ROM, I'm starting to think that it's probably a hardware issue. And that's why I need to found out how to return everything to stock, and send it for warranty.
Try again it will work .may be leave it longer after you put the battery in like an hour .it should work after an hour press the power button

Thankyou so much after leaving phone in cupboard for like 5 years and forgot why it was on there I decided to plug it up. Then I remembered it wouldn't turn on and I was getting the orange blinking. After following your instructions it's all on again. Have upgraded since then so I guess this is a back up phone now lol
Hello,
My friend completely discharged her HTC One V, turned it up several times after it shut down due to a low battery. Now the phone won't boot or even show the red charging light.
We tried charging it for 2 hours, holding the power button with volume down key for 10 seconds in every possible configuration (connected to PC, connected to wall, not connected at all, and with or without SIM card); It won't open fastboot or anything.
The phone is running the latest official software and never been unlocked or rooted or anything; only apps from Play Store.
I tried searching all the HTC One forums here on XDA and Googled as well, with no luck.
Can you please help? Thanks a million in advance.

Probably brick. This happens sadly, I don't know if this is because hTC sets the battery drain voltage too low, and just overburns the battery, or some components don't like this, but happens. Go to hTC service.
Hi guys,
yesterday I tried to recover the original ROM for Desire HD. During the process in bootloader, my phone shutdown, and I can't turn it on now, even the bootloader wont run. I think my battery was too low, even tought the phone showed 99% (it happened before, even though the battery was almost dead), and it died during the update. Basically, I'm not able to access any feature right now, I'm not sure, if the phone is charging - when I plug it in, the orange light turns on, but when I unplug, the light stays on. Bootloader won't start, but when I press both volume buttons and power button, the phone vibrates 3 times, green light turns on, and thats all.
If you need more info, please ask.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.
You were recovering official ROM from the RUU? This should not result in your device being bricked.
Please try removing the battery for about 10 seconds, then press Vol Dn+Power button and a partial bootloader showing RUU failed or a similar error should open.
Then connect your phone to your PC and again run the Official RUU Setup.
Hit "Thanks" if I helped you. Also click "Donate to me" on the left if u wanna give something in return

Hi, thanks, nothing happens when I push down volume down and power buttons, even after removing batteries. I believe something is actually happening ,but nothing shows on the screen, because when I push volume down and power, and then I plug in the power cable, the orange light does not turn on, while when I plug it in without the combination, it does turn on.
I think that was an official Rom, because I've used it before, and my phone was not rooted afterwards - I did this successfully two times before. However, I recovered it from SD card (pd98img zip copied on the ssd).
Maybe you can try it...just try let the charge is plug in...n leave it be for a hour maybe...don't try to turn on the phone..
After a hour you can try unplug the charge...and remove your battery first...then put it in again...then try power on with pressing volume down+power button..just let see if this time the phone can go to bootloader or not..
Hope this can help..

yeah. I thought about that, but I dont have any desire hd battery here, and I don't know how to charge this one without the phone.
I appear to be having similar problems with it not turning on. when i plug in the charger i get no orange light atall.. if i leave it plugged in (usually within 1hr to 2) eventually it will boot to custom recovery and from there i can reboot the phone and will boot to android. but it does not last very long atall usually about 30mins. have reset battery stats from recovery but doesnt seem to help.
from what i can find online its dieing but can anyone advise on if it will be the battery or the phone itself???
i have just spent $30 fixing digitizer and lcd in the past month. if it is needing a new battery i will proberbly do that but if not it can go..
hope this may help with your problem or any other....

Hi,
my M8 doesn't turn on anymore. Already tried to change the battery, already tried to start it with VOL+ vor a couple of minutes, tried VOL+ and VOL- for a couple of minutes - nothing. I can't get into bootloader, i can't boot the phone - BUT:
- After connecting the phone to the PC a device "Qualcomm HS-UB QDLoader 9008 (COM10)" shows up
- When putting the charging cable only half the way in the charging LED turns on for 1-2 seconds and then off again
- When trying to do the VOL+ and Power method the charging LED turns on very short every 10-15 seconds as long as i hold the keys
Is it completely dead? Or can i try to flash something with qualcomm tools from here? Its a non-provider phone (HTC_102 i think) and the android variant.
The last thing i did was htcdev unlock after i got it from htc repair where they replaced the motherboard. i installed twrp and then miui7 and after this viperrom and leedroid. With miui it turned on but not every time (i don't know why) but after leedroid it doesn't even get into bootloader.
I don't think this is rom related and more of a hardware issue but maybe you have some ideas. The phone seems to be dead anyway, so let's try something.
Thanks

I have the same issue. Same indicators. Just happened after charging overnight phone seems completely dead. Tried everything. (Light trick, Volume Up & Down w/ Power)
For the most part, if you've charged the phone for several hours, and all your are getting is orange/red LED (I would call it red, but maybe I'm not remembering it correctly) and the button combos don't work, its probably bricked.
Try holding power+Vol up for a minute or so (it will sometimes take that long to reboot, in certain circumstances). Also try Power+Vol up+vol down (but it sounds like you did already).
Also try the button combos with or without the charger attached and plugged in. In can think of at least one user, that had success with the charger plugged in, when they had lost all hope.
Basically, the device will come up with the Qualcomm Download message on your PC anytime the phone is not powered on. So it can be an emmc failure, or a dead battery. You can try replacing the battery, but that can just end up as a disappointment (which looks like may be the case for the OP). Or you can even have the Qualcomm message come up, if the charge is too low. I've had that happen once, gave me a heart attack. Red LED, and no response to button combos. I let it sit on charger for a few hours, then holding power+vol up for a minute made it boot, much to my relief.

I would have been more hopeful if it was a green LED, appearing for a second when you connected the charger. That would have made me think maybe the charge port is just loose.
Same problem
having the same problem and i have noticed that when I plug it to pc then I shows qgusb dloader and when I press power button or any other button combination then I stop showing as qgusb dloader it appears as device is unplugged and then if I replug it then it won't show anything nor led neither qhusb..But after 10 min or so if I plug it then it again shows led and qhusb and I have also noticed one more thing that if I plug it in charger then led just blink for some microseconds but when I plug it to pc led blinks several times dim solid for 2 3 seconds is there any hope?
I reached this stage by installing unknown ROM .
By the way I have one more HTC one M8 but its from different career (at&t) and it's also rooted and custom rom installed but its in very bad condition just working but i m thinking about replacing motherboard or battery so i can fix it it this idea succesfull ?

What do you mean "unknown"? Do you mean, you can't remember exactly which ROM you flashed?
I presume you don't mean you flashed something, without knowing what it is.
Do you remember anything about the ROM?
What carrier version of the M8 are you talking about?
S-on? If so, its hard to brick this phone with s-on.
Hello All,
I have the exact same issue ...
It started by showing messages like "android core/services has/have stopped". I rebooted, then there was no mobile network connection -> No IMEI.
I had no worries, that happened also in the past and I could solve it with a dirty flash.
Then I went to Recovery, dirty flashed my ROM (Android Revolution), phone rebooted and started building application cache.
At some point, it started, then some more caching and ... boom, blackout.
It doesn`t respond to anything. No power+volume combination, anything.
I have even opened it up and removed the battery connector.
Without battery, when I connect it to the power source, via USB, the RED light turns on for a second and the Off. ..
Also, when connected to the PC, it is identified as : " Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 " .
Are there any repair possibilities, besides motherboard replacement ?
Thank you in advance.

Please don't post the same question to multiple threads. One place is enough. It makes it confusing to those trying to help you, and it's therefore against forum rules.
