I am in a bit of a dilemma. I am going to get a new phone, and I really like the Pixel XL. However, I read today that the Pixel XL 2 will be coming out in 2017. What is your opinion? Should I wait? Should I sell my phone once I see the Pixel XL 2 coming out? Should I keep the Pixel XL for the next two years? Thanks for your opinions!
If you can wait few months then Pixel 2 XL.
But keep in mind that the phone will be announced around October and won't be available until November/December or maybe even later.
Buy a Pixel XL (if you can get one) and buy the 2 when it comes around (if your finances allow) and sell the original XL.
About 9 months is a long to wait. Juat get the Pixel XL now and the Pixel XL 2 @yrs end.

Snapdragon 835 phones are just around the corner. Wait for those. Besides, Pixel XL is an extremely simplistic phone. In terms of hardware, it doesn't do much at all. Its software is pretty good but still very buggy. Aesthetically, it's hideous. To be honest I hate it - only keeping it for Project FI.

There's currently an 8 month long queue on the XL 2 so I'd recommend getting an XL - selling - get an XL2.
Also thought I read somewhere they have another phone in the works besides the pixel2. My pixel xl os isn't buggy at all. More stable than my v20. Its a good phone simplistic phone and if you can wait then do it but remember google is becoming like apple and making limited numbers on release date to drive up demand and hype.

But for real, since I financed with google I have that card that works only for the Google store. My pixel XL is almost payed off, and as soon as the pixel 2 drops I'm grabbing it.
In regards to the comment above mine..........
For a phone that cost me over $800, I am pissed at the amount of bugs it has. Randomly my nav bar doesn't respond in landscape orientation, when YouTube is playing in the background my volume buttons don't work ( and I have to go-to settings to change the volume), camera gets stuck on "processing hdr image" all the time, music randomly pauses while working or relaxing, Pandora/iHeartRadio/play music all randomly close in the middle of two tracks, etc etc.
These issues have persisted across multiple factory resets, multiple factory image flashes, and custom ROMs.
I would rma it, but google wants to place a $800 hold on my card to do so, and since I never have more than $400 on my card this isn't possible, eliminating any chance I have at RMA.

In terms of hardware it doesn't do much? Maybe you have a bugged phone like me, but a bit worse. Me and a friend switched pixel XL's for a day so I could see if he had similar problem. His phone was literally flawless.
Hardware wise, this phone is a masterpiece?! An 821 with google sauce for some battery saving, an adreno 530, and 4gb of ram? What phone are you comparing it to, to reach the assumption that "it's not much at all"? Software is far from buggy as long as your on a factory image with no modification. I love the way it looks, I love the chin because it reminds me of my HTC days, I love the glass/metal transition and subtle lines.
And you say your only keeping it for fi? Why not get a Nexus 5, or 6, or 5x, or 6p?

I've owned a lot of phones, iPhones, many various android phones and tablets. Pixel XL is hands down my favorite thus far. I've seen hardware defects on various forums, but my device isn't affected by any of them. It's the typical bribary of competing companies blowing up the .01% defects as much as humanly possible to create a negative vibe, it happens to all manufactures. However this phone is snappy, the assistant is great, and I actually really, really like the design. Got mine in white with a nice velvet red hexagonal case, looks very snazzy. The thing about bezels... if you don't have them where does your thumb/holding fingers go on a bezeless screen that requires two hands to hold? I'll tell you. On top of the screen. To me this seems like.. awful. Just keep some bezels so I have somewhere to put my hands without accidentally touching stuff. Sound quality is great. Software bugs...? I don't know of any. Electric blue accents? Gorgeous. A lot of little details went into this, the animation when you long press home, the blue tints, the swipes, the app opening. It's very responsive, very smooth natural interface, very intuitive. It's a great phone, 0 regrets buying it.

No waterproofing, no wiresless charging, no iris/face scanner, no stylus, no always on display, no sdcard slot, no HDR display, no pay system that works everywhere (MST), huge bezels, very thick, fugly.
Here's a picture to illustrate the point:
You sound more like a Samsung user. I think the pixel is great for users who like modifying the system, and who like a pure vanilla feel to the system.
I just got the XL like 2 weeks ago just wait for the Pixel 2 this phone isn't worth near the amount they are charging
What if Pixel 2 is a mid-range or budget phone...

Not a user, a typical fanboy. Anyone who has used Samsung phones know for a FACT that how laggy they become over time. I basically never thought I would there anything else other than Note series. But no, Samsung doesn't know how to optimise TouchWiz. They have had their time, they ain't going anywhere. Also the Note 7 is more a jewellery-look alike, a slippery fingerprint magnet, with an incredibly impractical glass design, I don't know how people can even hold them phones, disgusting. In any case, I have heard this big bezel thing so many times for Pixel! What about them Sony phones! Or HTCs! If you need fancy looking nonsense then go for them Chinese Ximi Mix phones or whatever, robust built is what a phone should have, not a looks to impress people around you, that's why attention whore people like the kinds of S7, Note 7 etc.
Even if you forget the design completely, it's beyond hilarious to compare a Pixel or a Nexus device even, with any TW Samsung. I guess after the brilliant Note 7 drama some kids had to ditch their Samsung and buy the next best flagship available, so they bought the Pixel, but now they see it's not bringing them the attention they had hoped for, so they get pissed off. They never knew anything about hardware or software at first place. But people like me, who have used almost all the S and Note phones of Samsung, wouldn't even dare to go back to them, it's a scary experience.
How could this thread not deteriorate into this? The title says it all. Do I buy a phantom device or spend money I might not have? But deteriorate it did and will continue to go down the rabbit hole.

How much did you guys pay for your pixel?
I paid a bunch.
Here's the rundown; then, the conclusion -
Shipping Status Quantity Item Price
Estimated delivery date: Dec 5, 2016 – Dec 7, 2016 1 Pixel XL (128 GB, Very Silver) $869.00
1 Project Fi SIM $0.00
Processing (1-2 business days) + Delivery Standard (3-5 business days): $0.00
Tax: $60.83
Total: $929.83
----------------------------------
I got ripped off. You did too. The markup on hardware must be as high Apple's. They probably make these phones for $400, then sell them for $900.
Not I. I paid $240 over a 24 month period for the 32gb Pixel. Delivery November 28th. A bargain at twice the price.

Just wondering if anyone is thinking of jumping to one of these other phones. I think the G6 is a nice looking phone,. I have tried Samsung so many times since my S3 (last Samsung I actually liked) so as beautiful as of a device they put out, I simply can not get over the lag and stuttering of their phones. Tried the N7 a couple times and just couldn't choose that over my then 6P.
Project Fi is a sensible choice for a low data user. I'm staying with the POS Pixel XL for the time being. It's only a responsible choice.
I dont plan to jump to either of those but I might jump ship to the New Htc ocean due out probably in the next month or two. Htc devices have pretty much close to pure android and Htc devices usually have the largest dev following which means the most custom roms and mods and you can run the Viper rom most likely which team Venom is known for having the roms out that have the most mods available of any custom rom out.
Not a chance neither Samsung or LG have a good software or update policy. Sticking with Google devices from now on, shouldn't of picked up an LG G4, worst 12 months ever.

I was thinking about getting a g6 but my fears were confirmed about the speaker being weak when the reviews started coming out. Weak speakers seem to be the norm with water proof phones.
Other than where it's placed, I'm very happy with the sound from my pixel's speaker. Having a good and loud speaker is much more important to me over waterproofing.

A lot, mainly storage and feel in hand. The s8 is a great phone and so is the pixel. My main issues with the pixel XL were cost/value and storage. For $850 the pixel is overpriced esp at 32gb storage. If the phone would have had 64gb it would have been a keeper. I regret buying the pixel, it was a letdown. Keep in mind my previous phone before that was a 64gb 6P that I got new for $400. That phone still had a lot of life left in it and could have carried me through to the pixel 2 which I most likely would have gotten if I didn't feel the need to get out of the pixel asap. I never was a Samsung fan but this phone is pretty good.

I'm staying with the Pixel until a phone with a better camera comes out
I have both the G6 and the GS8. I have the G6 on AT&T, the S8 on T-mobile and the Pixel XL on Verizon. I like all 3 however the Pixel XL and the GS8 are by far the better of the 3. The G6 has abysmal battery life compared to the other 2, a decidedly worse camera and believe it or not, has more bloat than the GS8. The G6 is decent otherwise. Certainly an improvement over the G4 and 5. In terms of the GS8, I love the feel and look of it, the screen is awesome. (God forbid I drop it though ). It gets great battery life, on par with the XL, take great photos, on par with the XL. Lets you dark theme if you create a Samsung account ( eh hem google) and I am using the Paid Nova launcher configured to look like the Pixel launcher and have it themed dark.. And coupled with T-mobiles much improved and now blazing fast network, I actually for the first time in my life am enjoying a Samsung device. The XL still has better battery life, better camera and the smoothest fast interface despite being older and with an older SOC.. But I will say this, the GS8 is def not your Samsung of old.... They are def improving.

Right on. I've played with the S8+ a few times and really like it. I had the S7 edge prior to getting the Pixel XL and loved it. I like the direction Samsung is going. Their hardware and design are class leading, many of their software additions are useful and the GUI is aesthetically pleasing, in addition I feel like theyre really paying attention to what customers want. If the Pixel had just been another Nexus I probably would've kept my S7E, but I was very interested to use "the first Google phone." I like the Pixel a lot and the camera is really second to none. I'll probably hang onto it until the fall then upgrade to either the Note8 or Pixel 2 XL.
I'm jumping ship from my t mobile LG G6 to a Verizon phone. I really like the G6 except it cant be rooted, nice battery, runs smooth. just all around nice to handle..... If anyone knows which verizon phones that can be rooted I would appreciate your input.

Eh, I thought it was interesting but I feel this way. You need to be true to your dollar and what makes you happy.
I see it as a sign of the times that Samsung has been moving in the right direction when it comes to the UX, as have a lot of other OEMs. Not ignoring how locked down they are but the folks that care about that are a tiny minority.
This is also important to cut through the hive mind of "Samsung bad and Google can never do anything wrong".
So many guys griping about Touch"insert expletive here" but the last time they owned Samsung was the s2.
Folks attack them for trying to be like apple but ultimately it's not entirely about being original, it's about seeing what works and improving that, giving share holders the most bang for their buck.
Believe it or not we all benefit from the gimmicks/innovation of OEMs.
But hey like I said I don't care who likes what phone in the grand scheme of things it comes down to what works and what can you afford.
It's just good to see someone giving an honest opinion in our Android echo chamber.
I had been using Android till last year (mostly Nexus devices) and it was last year when i decided to try out the IPhone 7 plus. Overall, IP7P is a good device, stable OS and nice performance but I didn't like the way i was tied in the closed OS, not being able to use some of my fav apps and how my cloud storage is so limited on iOS.
So, i pre-ordered Pixel 2 XL 128 on launch day and expecting on Oct 25th. I am still susceptible of the change, mostly because of looks of new Pixel. My primary reason is software but then shall i wait for Pixel 3 or will my decision to jump prove worthy?
Anyone else in the same boat as me?
It's subjective and we can't decide whether you'll like the device or not, but it's a pretty good upgrade hardware wise.
You'll get a better (the best) camera, screen, and front facing dual speakers. Like the iPhone it lacks a headphone jack though.
It's the phone to get if you want the best android experience, so I'm sure you'll like the software if you've used android before.
The only way to know for sure is to have the device in your hands and decide on your own. Return it if it's not for you.
not in the same boat.. but i broke my normal upgrade cycle for this phone too.
it's mostly the software experience that drew me in the most

Thanks for the support. I was really looking some push from folks to enable this change. Yes, my primary reason is pure android experience that I will get on Pixel. Also, since i was full time android user since years but been on iOS for last one year, I mostly used Google apps and very closed tied with them, so I am essentially using more Google apps on iOS than any Apple specific apps.
Camera is definitely one of the plus points on Pixel. I really didn't care abt the 3.5mm jack removal on IP7 since I mostly use bluetooth for music.
If you want the best pure android experience than yes. But i have never seen an incentive for i devices.. to much control for me .. the drawer feature alone makes android worth it..

Had Android since 2009 and switched to the iPhone 7 Plus last year as well. Like you I enjoyed the stability, fluidity but after I while I began to miss Android and got bored with iOS and it's restrictive ways. So, I grabbed a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. Solid device all around except for software updates! iOS had gotten me spoiled to instant availability of updates as soon as they were announced. So, waiting for Sammy to get me Oreo irked me and I pre-ordered the Pixel XL 2! Now I can get my Android and prompt updates [emoji4]

Well, I was also undecided until I checked the xl 2 today. Very fluid and the display is far better than iPhone 7 plus. I checked few YouTube vids and it sounded great. Camera captured few great pics. Recorded a slow Mo video as well.
Overall I'm impressed and waiting for Oct 25th.

Honestly, if you're on this forum, or any xda forum for that matter, asking about if Android is better than Apple...you're in the wrong place! Seriously. Nobody can sway somebody into the differences....because there are too many to even comprehend. This discussion is like asking if somebody should run Linux or Windows. SMH. Use each phone and find out for yourself.
Well yes. It totally makes sense but I'm coming from one full year of iOS usage, I was totally getting sunk into iOS and was totally happy with it until I used pixel. As much as I like my iPhone, I still feel Android has much more to offer than iPhone. It gives you freedom to do what you want. Overall I'm quite excited to move to Android.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I used the iPhone 7+ for probably half a year, loved the battery life but like everyone said you just get tired of not being able to customize. The app drawer was the biggest complaint for me because I like minimal things on my homepage and it drove me nuts having all icons on my homescreen whether they were in a folder or not. I can honestly say I havent had an Android phone have as good of battery as my iPhone but to me its still worth the switch. I'm in between the V30 and Pixel 2 XL. Got the v30 currently and have my 2XL on order for the 25th. I like the updates but not a huge fan of the way the pixel 2 xl looks. so we will see what I end up with.
I'm with a huge doubt, which one to buy? an OP5T or a GP 2 XL, what I most want is to have a good battery life. But I've been thinking and looking for forums for 3 days but I do not decide. I would be very grateful for your answers and recommendations.
The only reason I was considering a Pixel 2 XL was for the better camera. Aside from that, I don't think the huge price jump from the 5T to the 2 XL is worth it.
Both phones have the same internals and you don't have to worry about potential blue tint shift/screen burn-in issues with the 5T.
Also, if you're big on flashing, the dev community is usually a lot more populated for OnePlus devices!
Overall though, aside from a mediocre camera, I have no complaints about my 5T, I'm loving it and I'd definitely recommend it over the 2 XL
While the OnePlus 5t is a great phone, I sold it because I just think the LG v30 is the best phone out now.

Well, maybe the best phone out for *you*. Everyone has specifics they're looking for. LG V30 is a great phone, and so is OP5T, and my preferences for me, I need a solid development community.:silly:
I was torn between this exact decision as well myself, given how many hardware issues the Pixel 2 XL is suffering from. Was test driving the 5T the past 2 weeks vs. my current Huawei Mate 9, and in the end, I decided to return the 5T and just ordered the Pixel 2 XL. The new discount Google has on the Pixel 2's helped to drive that decision. Pretty much came entirely down to the camera. The 5T for its price is literally perfect IMO from an overall hardware and software experience, except for the darn camera. I spent a lot of days comparing pics between the Mate 9 and 5T, and there are clearly some shots where the 5T had trouble with in the fine edge details, turning things into that infamous oil painting mess. It's funny because I typically don't obsess over the camera so much, except that when I need a camera, I REALLY need it to capture memorable moments, and I want it to reliably produce the best instant snap picture quality possible, without me having to second guess it. That aside, the 5T's software and hardware has been rock solid stable, insanely fast, and the battery life has just been amazing, easily 2 days for me with regular usage.
The Pixel 2 XL is by far the most I've ever spent on a phone, and I skipped last year's Pixel precisely because of its price. I was on a Nexus 6P till this past summer, when its battery issues finally got too bad...now that was one phone I loved dearly. I've never kept a phone longer than 6 months till the 6P, which I bought at launch and kept for a year and a half. So here's to hoping I can live with the Pixel 2 XL's flaws for me to love everything else about it. I really don't want to ever go to a Samsung if I can avoid it, as I hate bloatware phones, not to mention everybody and their dog has a Samsung/Apple nowdays.
I need a development support phone. That means bootloader unlocking to not break safetynet and run custom ROMs/Kernels, not just rooting and breaking stuff like Samsung. V30 LG isn't worth the $800, and V30+ certainly not worth the $900+ IMHO.
For the money, I would expect more from them all. My only gripe with Samsung, no Bootloader unlocking for US phones...so, it checks all the boxes I have and need.
Otherwise, 5T is a really great phone for the money....only complaint is lack of SDCard, but can run USB-OTG and get around that, wireless charging would be nice. Otherwise, bang for the buck, dev support, can't be beat the 5T.
After having the 5T for some 2-3 weeks now, I would say get the Pixel 2 XL ONLY because better camera and Android updates. But ONLY IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT. Meaning you won't starve yourself or anything if you can get it. If you can truly afford it, you might as well get it.
With that being said, the 5T isn't a bad device at all. OxygenOS is basically stock Android some you coming from a Nexus device, like myself, you'll feel right at home. Especially if you've used LineageOS or some other custom ROM. On the flip side, you'll be stuck on Nougat 7.1.1 for a little bit. As I've mentioned before, coming from a Nexus device, whenever I heard about new Android updates I immediately flashed it, because I could. Because it was available to us like that. With the 5T, I had to switch gears and rely on ROMs to get back to the latest and greatest, or just stay on the current version of OOS. Which isn't bad by any means. I would've been happier if the 5T had shipped with at least 7.1.2 on board, because there's some functionality there that makes the previous version bearable. 7.1.1., not so much. But it is what it is. Substratum themes don't really work too well either.
But that's mostly cosmetic stuff. So, again, if you can actually afford it, get the P2XL. But if you wanna be SMART about your money, get the 5T. Aside from a lacking camera and lack of immediate Android OS updates, there's truly not much you're missing out on with the 5T compared to the P2XL. Outside of Pixel-exclusive features, that is.

Did you know that the price of Google Pixel 2 XL has fallen by nearly 45% because people are not purchasing it and many who purchased are returning it back within the refund period of 10 days given by Amazon. Need I say more?

Here in Canada, after tax, the Pixel 2XL is roughly $1275 (as of this posting). The total I paid for the OnePlus 5T was $730 after the student discount and tax. That's still about a $500+ jump in price, still not worth it for me at least.
I really don't have a lot of options. Coming from a bootlooped 5X (reason why I will never a LG phone) and really wanted that stock feel with lots of custom development. Only choice for me was 5T and Pixel 2, and sadly Pixel 2 doesn't sell where I am.
And I really don't care that much about wireless charging, camera or the 1080P display. Quite an easy choice for me.
I really think it's worth it.
the oneplus 5t camera is its biggest weakness. i really hate the camera and i dont even use the camera that much. coming from a samsung S6, even the S6 takes a fat pile of dookie all over the 5T camera

Well, I think it's an amazing phone for the price and everything it offers, but, how bad is the camera?

So brother, in a few words you recommend me for pixel 2 xl? If this the possibility of saving money I do it (and I go for the 5t) but if I really have such a bad experience with the camera OF 5T. Well, I think I would go by PIXEL XL2 . (I come from the s7 and I guess the 5t will have a very bad camera)

The camera isn't necessarily bad, but isn't good either. It's just an average camera in my opinion. If you're not super picky on getting super clean shots then I think you'd be more than okay with it

Is it really bad camera?

With what camera could you compare brother? maybe with my s7? best? worst? at par?
I hope my perspective helps your decision. I'm smartphone power user. I don't play games but I am multitasking a lot. Whatever I can do on the move using the phone, without turning my PC or laptop, I'll do it. E.g. 3 browsers installed with around 10+ pages on each, diverse google drive docs running scripts, 350 apps, you name it, it's on my phone. So long I can remember, I was looking for the best phone with the best community (phone customization and fixes), and therefore switching between Google Nexus/OnePlus phones. I wanted the best, regardless of price so I was ready to go with Pixel XL2. Until I saw the screen issue. If you are looking at XL2 from an angle, any angle, like have it on your desk, table, sofa, screen will turn bluish. That alone was enough for me to look for better phone. Another thing to keep in mind is that Pixel XL2 has only 4 GB of ram and that would not be enough for me. I went with OnePlus 5T and I don't regret it a bit. Yes, camera is not as good, no OiS, no optical zoom either, and I'll do with Gmod camera or open camera. Can't have everything, I guess.
I'm in the process of getting a new phone in the coming days. To keep it simple here, i'm debating 3XL or S10(e). I'm not going to wait long enough for the Pixel 4 to come out. OnePlus 7 Pro is sadly not available through my carrier.
So, is the 3XL still a good deal when Price is identical to the S10(e)? I've had Samsung in the past and Nexus's before that. I now the Samsung OS and am fine with it. I live in Europe, so getting AOSP for the S10 should be an option. Camera is important but not priority one. An overall fluid/fast system is more important to me. I also don't care to much for specs. Solid Batterylife is on my list too. I'm not a poweruser, so 3-4 hours SOT should be enough for a day or two. Oh, and i don't have a Problem with either notch or holepunch.
With that, would you get the 3XL for guaranteed Android Q and faster Updates, or the S10 for better specs/Display and being overall newer?
I had the chance of one plus, Samsung S10, Huawei p30pro. Chose the pixel for the updates and camera. No regrets whatsoever. Camera stunning, updates each month, 5-6 hours screen time, great build, wireless charging and IP rating, smooth as performance and a very underrated screen. Coming from the LG G7, which I loved, this phone is a level up in everyway.
@domsch1988 Why not the 3a XL? Much better value especially if you're not a power user. Only thing it's not waterproof and has no wireless charging, slightly lower processor but a great phone.
go for the OnePlus. I've played with it (friend bought it) and its solid. I have a 3XL but if I can do it over, i'd either stick with the 2XL or upgrade to the OnePlus.
I still think the Pixel 3 XL is the Android phone to get, until the 4 XL in Oct. Best camera, smooth OS, timely updates every month, no bloatware.
What other phone is out there? Galaxy S10? LOL I'll pass. LG G8 or V50 ? No thanks. OnePlus, yeah they are are good, but, not the best camera, and some features missing
I would choose Oneplus. I'm so disappointed with the Pixel 3 XL. The fingerprint sensor sucks. I had the 1+ 5T and it was far better than this. It's my last Pixel.
I'll change my 3 XL for a 5 XL, that's how much I love it.
for me pixel 3 xl is the phone to buy because its a nice design lovely to hold timely updates. The only thing am not happy about is the ram and how its managed i would have liked to see an extra 2 gigs here.
Traded my S10 Plus for the Pixel 3 XL.
Great decision in my view. Running Android Q beta 4, no need to carry DSLR with me (S10 camera was awful).
Only downside is the RAM and it's management. Would choose it over again in a heartbeat

Since i'm getting it on Contract, they are equal in price (basically 1€ without any change in what the plan will cost me). The 3a will be getting guaranteed Updates for 6 Months longer. Other than that, i feel the 3XL is far better.
If i'd pay for it up front, i agree 100%. I'm currently rocking a Redmin Note 5 Pro. So i'm confident, that the Hardware in the 3aXL would be well enough. I just don't have the value benefit when both phones cost the same in my case.
To everyone else: I really appreciate the input. Seems the Pixel is still the Phone to get. Will be my first time getting a phone for the camera. But with my wife and me expecting a child, i'm sure that's a great decision
Despite what I have read of other's experiences with this phone, in my case it is the absolute best phone I have ever had. Coming from a long line of Samsung Note phones and Galaxy phones, it just can't compare. I highly recommend it. Updates are timely and without delay on the first Monday of every month. It is very responsive and the camera is the best in the industry. I have learned with this phone that specs mean nothing if the software is not optimized. Samsung phone shave great specs but software (IMO) is not optimized. I got tired of Samsung's locked bootloader, no root on phones and batteries that after 6 months did not last more than a few hours. For me, this is the ONLY phone worth the money today.
Easy. Get the 3xl or even 3aXL and save some money. Either will be fantastic.
Other than Google not being able to fix the sound (changes from clear to bassy/muffled and back randomly) this phone is awesome.

The OnePlus is no upgrade IMO. I just spent a week testing both the OnePlus 7 Pro and the P3 XL and the bottom line is that the two phones are a perfect example of specs not telling the whole story. The OnePlus is nice but in the end it went back and I kept the P3 XL. Main issues with the OnePlus was the distortion caused by the curved edges (why did they do that? Loss of functionality for nothing in return... if i wanted a fashion statement I'd buy an iPhone.) I don't get why everyone gets hysterical over a notch that hardly ever really intrudes on the P3 XL while ignoring the distortion of the O7P that is annoying 100% of the time. Also in spite of all the reviews gushing over the 90 fps display it really was a big... meh. If you look closely it is somewhat smoother than the 60 fps flagships but these are already so good that the slight improvement is just not that big a deal and I think I'd probably have ended up just leaving the 90 fps option off to get the 10% or so battery life back. But the OP7 display was brighter than the P3 XL, I'll give it that.
The other problem on the OP7P was the camera. It's come a long way and is certainly competitive with the big boys but I found the P3's image to be superior most of the time. If you aren't picky about the camera then the P7 should be fine. Last is the general feel of the phone and the pure Google Pixel OS (and all the little nonessential but nice goodies) made the P3 just feel more comfortable and day-to-day usable to me. Also FWIW the P3 supports Verizon WiFi calling and the OP7 does not (or at least I couldn't find any setting that would make it work.) Something that won't matter for some but will for others so just mentioning it. Also if you think you may ever want to use Google Fi (for the international coverage if nothing else) then the Pixel is the better choice, also a factor that may or may not matter depending on the user.
I'm not hating on the OnePlus, it's a great phone and would probably be my phone if it weren't for the P3 XL. But an 'upgrade'? Nah.
.
At this point in the year I would honestly wait things out to see what happens with the Pixel 4. I love the Pixel 3xl and wouldn't buy anything else at this point. The first phone that I enjoy using and the camera is awesome! With the Pixel 4 it can only get better, even if the numbers are still not up with the S10 it wouldn't matter to me. Fast, no bloatware and the ability to take it anywhere and use it anywhere is what I enjoy.
S10e would be a downgrade in my opinion.
I actually ordered the Snapdragon S10e and quickly realised I miss that higher quality screen of the Pixel 3 XL. As this was the Snapdragon S10e I had gcam installed but it was very buggy and just nothing like the original.
The pixel 3 XL has a wider screen too, makes viewing content a lot better, the Samsung phones are narrow so it almost seems like you lose out on content, for me it was noticeably enough to keep this phone!
Hi all,
I haven't seen post about this yet.
First, a little bit of a background.
I had Google phones since it was nexus and was very pleased. Before I used to have Samsung galaxy (1, 2, 4) devices.
I started to use Pixel phones due to the stock experience and lack of unwanted apps.
This phone is the worst phone I ever used.
What we do the most of the time in our phones? unlock it! and this feature is not working (or just awful experience).
I found myself trying to unlock my phone few times until successful unlocking it (when it worked, sometimes I need to insert my pin).
I could handle with all what I'm going to write next if the fingerprint sensor would worked.
Also, let's talk about Android 12.
Let's face it, It's just Samsung One UI on another name.
And the camera, what about it? it takes the same (almost) images as my Pixel 4a 5G.
Me (and a lot of other people) can't tell the difference.
I don't believe I paid almost $1000 to get this disappointing phone.
I have few more things to write about (as how's the phone always feels hot) but that's enough for now.
Thanks for sharing your personal experience and frustrations. While many are enjoying the P6P it's expected for some to have complaints and await fixes.
My opinion differs a bit from yours.
Being on the Pixels since they were Nexus' as well, I only share your opinion about the price, which I mitigated by trading in my Pixel 5 for $420 making my 6 Pro cost $580, and that under load while plugged in it does get warm enough to feel through my case.
My fingerprint reader worked perfectly (until I installed a glass screen protector which was advertised as not fingerprint reader friendly).
After reading a few of the rooting guides, I successfully unlocked and rooted my 6 Pro on the first attempt (and I am by no means a fastboot savant), the only diff from previous Pixels is the addition of the --disable-verity --disable-verification fastboot command.
As for being the worst Pixel. In my experience the worst was the Pixel 5. Lackluster performance, no real WOW features, but great batt life.
Not trying to minimize your experience, just saying that not everyone's experience is the same, and best or worst are very subjective opinions.
I disagree, and will go point by point on why.

I agree the FPR is not the best, but I find it far from being bad. And I didn't even do any of the usual tricks like registering the same finger multiple times, it just works for me. Yeah, it takes a bit longer than e.g. my S21 Ultra, but not considerably more, and I've never really been in a situation where unlocking my phone half a second faster really mattered.
Also, let's talk about Android 12.

Then you clearly haven't used OneUI before. Sure, Android 12's design borrows some elements - mostly the good parts - but it also adds a lot of unnecessary Google clout to the interface that I found weird and not necessarily pleasant to use. But overall it's not that bad of a design.
However it's certainly NOT OneUI "by another name". Far from it. OneUI adds actually useful features (DeX, for starters), and it's generally more flexible than what Google cooked up. You should really try a more recent Samsung phone for some time instead of making stupid claims like this.
And the camera, what about it? it takes the same (almost) images as my Pixel 4a 5G.

So just because you, subjectively, can't tell the difference, there isn't any?
To be honest, this is the best Google phone so far. All previous devices, including the Pixel 4 and 5 series, were quite lacking in a lot of departments, and as an avid Samsung user since the S8, this is the first Pixel I'm actually happy with.

Regarding the Pixel 5, it is mid range phone so I didn't expect it to have performance as flagship.

I believe that it's more than just a complaint.
I'm seeing frustrated users around the net, and no one from Google is actually addressing their problems.
Also, Along the way, the stock UI was one of the Pixels highlights, and now we are going to be the same as Samsung.
I don't want to return to the times that I was needed to root my phone (as I did on all my Samsung devices) just for give me my best experience (that most of it I had before).

Did you re-do your fingerprints after the first firmware update (November)? They changed the setup, the setup now tells you exactly what to do (lay downside, sides, tip of the finger) - it works much better and is more reliable. It can also be helpful to be very gently one (only slightly lay your finger) time in setup, and then next setup you press firmer.
Also, you should always add your primary finger 2 or even 3 times in total. Furthermore, do you use a screen protector? That can cause massive issues in terms of fingerprint readability.
Also keep in mind that the fingerprint scanner might have problems if you add your FP whilst having the protector on, so ALWAYS add the FP whilst having NO screen protector.

Nah, I have to look out for Samsung here for a second, even if I despise them. This is Googles fault and Googles alone. The new Android 12 UI is a joke made for a colour-blind, 80-year-old that requires an unicolor background to differentiate between font size 40 letters & his widgets need to be the size of the moon in order to read the freakin' time. That has nothing to do with Samsung. It's a joke of an UI and Google is fully responsible and whoever signed this off in management needs to be verbally culled from all future decision making processes and be demoted to a cleaning crew.

Then you don't look hard enough. The amount of detail and the supreme HDR experience are easily noticeable. The 150% more light is easily noticeable, even though there are some minor quirks in the camera software right now (lens flare, color reproduction a tad too saturated, might be intentional, I don't like it).
Not even mentioning the fact that the P6 Pro has an extraordinary periscope lens, enabling shots that your bare eyes cannot verify.
I mean, there are people that claim that 30 FPS gaming is the same as 120 FPS gaming, so in the end I guess if you can't tell the difference, then so be it. I can, and easily. It's always the question of personal taste and knowledge. I - as an example - am used to a personal home Dolby Atmos & OLED "theater" and can't stand most cinemas, since their experience is sh*t; most people will never notice, simply because they have no clue what good sound or a panel is. It matters little.

Do you use 5G? I still can't replicate "always feels hot", I've heard it a couple times. But I'm only in a 4G area and in the last weeks mostly spend time in-doors, so only WLAN. My phone sometimes does get a bit warm, but it's certainly not hot, it's more like an almost cooled tea, yet slightly warm - level. It's noticeable, so it's more than my body temperature, but not by more than let's say 5 degrees Celcius.
You're not just tapping the fingerprint reader are you? Pressing your finger until it unlocks is much more reliable. As far as Google not addressing anyone's problems/concerns...they haven't really had time yet. Although I'll concede, saying the FPR is taking longer due to security is a pretty lame PR move considering there are reports of non registered fingerprints unlocking people's phones.
I think in a couple months we'll see updates that help with the FPR, the camera applying too much sharpness, etc. Just need to give them time to push the fixes. It's a brand new design from them, there's bound to be some growing pains. Personally I love this phone, I have no problems unlocking it, no overheating, I won the screen lottery, and I've taken some stellar pics. I do believe there are a few phones that fell through the cracks with quality control though, and the first batch has had some issues. The next wave will likely be much more consistent, and the updates will take it from an 8/10 to a 9.5
I hope.
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that phones have just been really damn good for a long time, so it's becoming hard to improve. I came from a 5 year old phone and was expecting a world of difference, but in reality it's pretty much the same experience. Apps open quicker and the battery lasts longer, but the core functionality is actually a bit worse because of the finger print sensor.
Yes, a fingerprint reader that requires a second or two longer each time can add up over time
but I think the rest of the good qualities make up or an inconvenience, a recurring one at that

Really???
I can only assume you never took a glance at the forum
Stop crying and return the phone. It's clearly not for you...
Honestly, with the all the negative feedback, I was hesitant to buy the phone. I got the phone eventually and fingerprint sensor is not as bad as everyone claim to be. It's pretty good for me. I am core android user and used to flash ROMs, mods, etc. I used iPhone 12 pro for last 6 months and man, ios animations are so smooth and I thought android can never have smooth animations like ios. But damn, Pixel 6 Pro with android d 12 is so smooth and pleasure to use. Only couple of complaints I have are very bad auto brightness and I just don't like the system font. Apart from that, I just love this phone. I am sure it only gets better with updates.
This is my first actual Pixel but I've owned the Nexus 6 and 6P. The Nexus 6 had issues at launch with delivery and I remember mine took weeks to get. I loved the size of the phone but the battery drained like no tomorrow and if you did any video recording for longer than 5 mins it would overheat then freeze and shut off. The speakers on the thing were amazing though.
The Nexus 6P I liked as well even though the screen was smaller. My wife and I both had one and one day hers just stopped connecting to any mobile network and it ended up being a dead radio. They also bent very easily and I had to straighten mine out after a short time.
Then I moved on to OnePlus devices as they seemed better to me than the Pixels and I stayed on OnePlus until the 8 series which I didn't like because of the side hole punch and price increase. I bought my wife a Pixel 3a XL. She uses a ton of apps and the 3a XL was a tad slow so after a year I sold it.
Then I went to Samsung and got the Note 10 Plus then the S21 Ultra but the S21 Ultra was super heavy and the photos were underwhelming to me especially indoors and the battery life wasn't too good. I bought my wife a used 512GB Note 9 which she still uses. Then when I saw the Pixel 6 Pro had a new design which I liked I switched even though I despise curved screens and I don't know why Google insisted on going with a curved one. The Fingerprint Scanner I haven't had any issues with thankfully.
The worst Pixel is the Pixel I never owned. This may be the 1st worst Pixel though as it's nothing special over and other device. I'd have to say the Nexus 6 was the worst Google phone because of the constant overheating and terrible battery life but I never actually owned any of the Pixels prior to the 6 Pro.

I'm personally very satisfied. The standby life would be better if I stopped using Always on Display, but I'm a sucker for finding my phone in the dark easily
I have had a not good experience with my 6 pro!! straight out of the box first power up stuck at Google screen (had to pwr & vol+ to get it to boot) then just skipped all to perform a factory reset . Well after that I was able to set it up and within a hour it had rebooted 2 times , and has continued to reboot multiple times a day while being used or even sitting idle. So its getting sent back to Google tomorrow for "repair" so now after 5 days Its going back hope they just send a new unit. Cause even in safe mode it rebooted ,just hoping it gets fixed .
And its funny cause I picked up a std 6 (was told my pre-order 6 pro was "delayed" so i went to best buy and grabbed the 6 but after i got home and got it setup i get a email saying that my 6 pro shipped haha) the std 6 was awesome I loved it and it had me super excited to get my pro. And ever since i got it I wish I would have just kept the 6 and returned the pro. Sorry for the rant haha
