[SOLVED] HTC One M8 Mic gain - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Using HTC's Stock MM Rom, calls and voip apps work well. Quieter than some other Korean devices , but useable.
Since using CyanogenMod in Lolipop and MM on the M8 the audio for phone calls, and Voip apps like Hangouts and Google Allo is quieter than stock, but not unusable.
After updating to CM14, people started telling me they could barely hear me in normal calls when I had full signal.
Same issue with LineageOS 14.1 (latest)
I found some guides for altering settings in mixer_paths.xml and translated them for use with an M8. The mic boost improved for VOIP apps. But For calls gained only a small amount of volume, but also became harder to hear, not quite clipping just muffled and garbled and maybe just a little louder.
For now I reverted the xml file, even though I could keep the settings for just VOIP and not calls, because it seems as if there's some other config setting / driver issue at play.
Any help would be appreciated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------Solved: Found another guide that suggested punching holes through the speaker grille where the mic is, didn't want to reach the speaker underneath so used compressed air instead, made a HUGE difference.

[Q] Microphone sensitivity

I'm running the lastest CM7 nightly but I've had this problem for quite some time. I've been looking around for information on where the microphone settings are in android and I never found the exact answer. My microphone is so sensitive that when I'm on the phone, people often tell me that the people speaking in the background practically sound as loud as if they were speaking into the phone itself. I need to lower the sensitivity of the mic on a call so that I don't rape my peer's ears with the ridiculously loud ambient noise.
I noticed that samsung phones have a hidden service menu where you can alter mic settings, but I couldn't find one for HTC (don't think they even have one with mic settings). From what I can gather, there was a similar issue with the Desire HD and an edit to the /etc/AdieHWCodec.csv fixed their sensitivity problem. I open AdieHWCodec on my G2 and I have no idea where to start lol. Any ideas?
For the record, the stock AdieHWCodec.csv and the one included in CM7 are identical.

HTC One M8 Low microphone gain in-call.

Hey Guys,
In short, the in-call microphone gain is terrible. I sound very muffed, very quiet. In speaker mode, it works well. Same if I use any voip app, or just plain voice recorder.
It would seems my phone is another victim of noise cancellation mic acting out. Since my phone is past the warranty, I was hoping for some solutions to disable that mic.
I've been searching through forums for ways to do so, but haven't found one yet that would work for my phone.
I've looked into build.prop editing - but have no clue what needs to be edited/added. Same goes for playing with xml files in system/etc/.
Your insight would be very much appreciated.

Help! Low earpiece volume on call

I have been having low in-call volume for about a month. (LG G3 D856)
The earpiece plays loud enough when listening to voice messages on Telegram/WhatsApp but during the call it's too low
I have tried installing custom ROM, downgrading to official KitKat with full wipe. No way.
Can anyone help with it. I am quite sure its a software issue as on other apps the earpiece functions quite well.
P.S. I habe already tried turning on/off Voice Clearity, Voice Enhancement. No change
Hope someone can help with it
I had similar problems with my wife phone d855, and also few HTC old phones. It looks like combination of dust and all other things that has a contact with that part of phone completely fill small net on ear speaker.
This usually helps:
Use old toothbrush, put few drop of alcohol on it and gently tapping on net. Keep tapping minute or two. You will see results..
Advice: disassemble whole phone, and remove speaker to avoid broking speaker, but not necessarily.
In my situations, I get over 200% louder sound. Almost unbelievable..

Android 10 lowers my microphone volume significantly

After I updated to Android 10, a few of my friends on Discord said that they can barely hear me. I made sure my mic was as sensitive as possible in Discord and I barely saw the audio meter go up. Used an app to record my voice and noticed how quiet it is. I've tested this on both PixelDust and stock, and the microphone problem was still there. I downgraded to Pie for a bit and noticed that my mic was normal again, but when I updated back to 10, my mic was insanely quiet again. Is there any way to change your microphone volume in Android?
I can't say about Discord but make sure you have not fallen victim to the infamous microphone issue which plagued the OG Pixels widely, myself included.
It seems that Android 10 is forcing my mic to use the earpiece mic instead of the speaker mic in every app by default now.
Edit: After further testing, plugging in any headset won't change the mic input either. It's stuck on the earpiece mic.

Echo on messaging voice calls (whatsapp, kakaotalk)

Hey, did a search but didn't see anything. I have a G7 running ULM20e (sprint cross flashed).
When I'm on a call using Whatsapp or Kakaotalk, the other party can hear their own voice (echo). I never hear any; it's perfect for me. When I switch to speakerphone and keep the volume low, then they DON'T get the echo. With earphones plugged in (iphone style earbuds), they still hear the echo.
Does this sound like a software issue?
I installed a mic app to record voice/sound and when I speak into it, it's fine. No echo, so the mics are operating properly.
Weird, and the gf is getting annoying.. sigh
Posting my fix for future reference. After some research and lots of software testing (tried 3 differen roms, Oreo and Pie), I believed it to be a "hardware" issue. On youtube, I saw a video that described a fix and I basically did that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkcxzmCPFWw
I took soft foam and covered the areas around the bottom microphone with it. Both underneath the plastic shield (boombox speaker) and above (just under the back panel). It has reduced the echo to 10-15% of the amount before, but not completely eliminated. I think I can live with that for now.
