Hello,
I'm currently running JasmineROM (v3.1-LRX22C.N910VVRU2BOG5; based on Android 5.0.1) on my Note4 Developer Edition ("SMN910VZKE" and "Developer Device" under battery) with TWRP (v2.8.7.0) recovery.
I'd like to update to a ROM with Android 6.0.1, and have read good things here about the PaulPizzRom [1] (and the Oscar kernel [2]).
I've backed up my partitions to a separate microSD card using dd, Nandroid, and TWRP.
Is it safe for me to flash (some version of?) "PaulPizzRom.VRU2CPJ2.r-1" [2] and still keep my (aboot to keep my?) Developer Version and not have it turn into Retail? -or will flashing "PaulPizzRom.VRU2CPJ2.r-1" [2] turn my Developer Edition Note4 into a Retail version?
Also, if I am able to flash a Marshmallow ROM to my Note4 Developer Edition, do I still need to flash a Marshmallow bootloader and modem [3] separately (as mentioned here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/repeat-questions-rom-threads-t3422678 ) ?
Thanks for any advice anyone might have!
-Adam

The difference between retail and dev editions is the CID. I have converted my retail into a dev so that I can unlock the bootloader. Upgrade to latest firmware, unlock botloader, install TWRP, and you're good to go. Paul Pizz is a great rom. It's my daily driver.

woah meow.....
the dev edition has a known screen flicker bug that needs to be considered that isn't applicable to the ret/dev . with the dev edition you will require multisystem kernel to correct flicker. kinda backassward .....actual dev edition isn't as nice as the retail for development.

Thanks for the info.
Is a multisystem-capable kernel specifically required, or is the issue just that the stock kernel has the flicker issue, and an alternate kernel (w/out the same flicker issue) is required to resolve it?
e.g. I've heard good things about the Oscar Kernel [1] here, would flashing that also be sufficient to resolve the flicker issue you mention (on Note4 Developer Edition, SM-N910VMKEVZW) after upgrading to "PaulPizzRom.VRU2CPJ2.r-1" (Marshmallow 6.0.1), even though the Oscar Kernel doesn't appear to be a multisystem kernel?
If the Oscar Kernel won't fix that Note4 Developer Edition screen flicker issue (haven't experienced it myself, still trying to figure out the exact steps before trying to upgrade), what multisystem kernel would everyone suggest?

Unfortunately multi system is required. The issue occurs on anything other than stock and multi system. On the upside the dev responsible for mulltusystem is a recognized emotroid team member . I run it even though I have other options best battery experience ever

Aah.. good to know. That'll save me a bunch of headaches!
There seem to be a lot of multisystem kernels out there, mind sharing a link / post where I can find the one that you (or anyone else?) might suggest for my Note 4 Developer Edition that I'm planning on flashing "PaulPizzRom.VRU2CPJ2.r-1" on?
Thanks!

The last 3 symbols of the firmware in your case pj2 (I don't believe the r.1 is necessary along with intended android os version with kernel name....yikes you know what . hsbrad has a dev profile on XDA I believe it either contains or links you to the kernel and its various versions my bad about umpteen things he's posted you have to look through.....it should be under original android development in sm 910v forum section but I don't know if he still updates those now that he linked to emotroid he might be just posting in there android file host depot

If you want and are gonna be using 6.0.1 ROM or above I'll make an IMG of mine via flashify and away you go .....probably should go ahead and clarify that is called multi system because it is intended to be universally compatible between both touchwiz and aosp base as well as between both retail and dev edition though it was originally created tobfix screen flicker bug and clear selinux warning at boot when upgrading it now has become the stock permissive kernel for our device . it is from his most recent emotion build 3/20/17 . if I was you I would use the recovery option in flashify to install sorry I'm not by a computer best I can do ATM would be kernel img

I found this post by hsbadr for a Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow kernel and modem, but it's based off CPF3 (MMB29M.N910VVRU2CPF3) : https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...nerom-v1-0-t3113771/post67468659#post67468659
Anyone know where I can find hsbadr's multisystem kernel for Note4 DE based on CPJ2 ? -or will that (hsbadr's CPF3 multisystem kernel) work on Note4 DE with "PaulPizzRom.VRU2CPJ2.r-1" ?

No worries man . this device in my opinion is the last of a long line of kings that came from Verizon. The note5 didn't impress and I can't stand the edge (yuck) . I had the dev edition but let it go cause by the specs this phone was really just a lil nicer note 3 . a year ago I got the retail secondhand and fell in love . in application this bad boy is so much smoother than its predecessor which again says a lot. There was literally nothing better than the 3 when it hit but I think this one stayed relevant longer. If u can get the blasted battery life under control its fantastic . its the one real flaw with the galaxy s series .....battery is dead way too fast
firmware ?

I checked several of the threads in the various subforums but since I am currently really busy (have the phone for 3 weeks and I am not using it cause had no time to check XDA ) if you are kind enough I have some questions that spending more time in the threads would probably answer themselves but alas...
A: If I root the G3 can I bring it back to stock without any indication it got rooted (I heard some phones have special logs that show if a phone has been rooted that survive the various flashes), in case I need to send it for service?
B: Should I go with the root method shown on XDA TV (which doesn't show how to install a custom recovery) or one of the one click auto batch scripts?
C: I think generally this question is not allowed cause it can lead to flame but which ROM would you recommend I try first? I need just a clean, smooth running ROM. Disclaimer: Avoid arguing with other users if you disagree with something they said, just state the ROM and if you want your reason for picking it and I will scroll through them and decide.
Much obliged if you care to answer them and apologies to mods if this breaks any rules.

A: You can always go back to stock using LG flash tool with no evidence of rooting nor like samsung's knox
B: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3072767
C: I personally use resurrection remix rom based on CM12 due to performance but if you want fully working G3 with no bugs at all I recommend my favorite rom CupaChups 4.2. Super fast stock base rom with some extra features.
P.S. I recommend you to instal Kernel Adiutor from the play store after you root your G3 and change the governor from default Interactive to Conservative. Cos from some unknown reasons the Interactive governor is bugged on all G3 and changing that will highly increase your performance speed and feel. This works with base and aosp roms also.
Hope this helps
via LG G3 @ Resurrection Remix
Thank you, is there a problem if the phone is already on stock 5.0? Can I still root it with the same methods or must I restore it to 4.4.x? (A simple restore to factory blabla does it?)
Cheers

If you have a look around there's a one click method that works for all G3 variants regardless of software version that is here on the forums. You can use that, download the zip for your desired custom rom, install a custom recovery and then flash the ROM and you should be good to go. There's plenty of guides for you to use, and each custom rom thread should have it's own installation guide

Fair enough, I didn't know you had the H811. Though I'm sure Mythops234 will be more than willing to look at other devices once CyanogenMod is into at least a beta state. Why not send him a PM.

When I get home from Saudi Arabia I can put together a nice stock custom kernel. It was on my list of things to do, but I have been hung up on getting a deodexed rom base going. Its proving to be a major pain in the ass. 64 bit isn't being very cooperative and coupled with the weird mounts and other generally weird crap with this phone afaik everyone working on traditional zip flashable roms are running into the same issues. I suppose I can put that on the back burner and make a kernel... I wont be home for another week or 2 though.

Hello XDA, I have been working on an Aosp-ish nougat rom for our beloved trltetmo. It has nearly no features yet, since it's an AOSP ROM. I'm a Nexus dev, and just recently started working on the trltetmo because I bought one. I had a marshmallow rom and kernel(but tend not to release stuff to anyone to avoid drama and the eta requests).
Downloads: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=111459
I have uploaded my work to GitHub: http://github.com/TrlteNougat
For now until I get my gpu back, you have to flash this kernel for MM bootloader support: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862667083
Known issues:
- Camera is wonky. It's going to be difficult to fix
- The phone acts like it's a dual sim phone, no usability is sacrificed, it just shows two APN settings and the carrier on Dialer
Features:
None yet, it's AOSPish
What is being worked on:
Bluetooth
Call audio (mixer_path issues)
The kernel source is up: https://github.com/TrlteNougat/kernel_samsung_trlte/commits/n7.0
Manifest located here: https://github.com/TrlteNougat/manifest
Nice! Subscribed.
Test build
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24723757092306996
This one doesn't reboot randomly. Still has ril and Bluetooth errors. Sound doesn't work. Camera does.
I m not dev. But great to see work on 7 ...cheers to all devs...hoping for a stable one soon thx again
I'm keeping my eye on this thank you
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk
Ril is now partially working. I can send and receive texts. Calls cause a soft reboot, but shouldn't be hard to fix. Still no data connection yet, but that'll be fixed soon enough. Wifi connects but doesn't access internet for some reason. I haven't looked into that any.
Because why not
improper bootloader and in some cases modem can cause Wi-Fi to behave similar to how you have described. I'm not a TMO user but I think there should be several versions newer than OK2
if you have any desire to return to 5.1.1 or keep the option open to do it in the future, you may want to steer clear of the newest 2 or so bootloaders as they may prohibit further downgrading. if TMO is anything like Sprint, anything PE2 and older should still permit downgrades. newer versions I have not tested or seen any info on the topic.
[QRCODE][/QRCODE]ok I did a quick check and you are in fact on a 5.1.1 modem. I don't know if you've updated your bootloader but I get the feeling you would know if you have or not lol
all TMO MM firmware is newer than the Sprint firmwares (PB5, PC1, PD1, PE1, PE2) that I know to not prohibit downgrades, so you're on your own there.
if you believe the test builds to be compatible with the Sprint model, I'd be happy to help test as time allows for it

910T can be downgradable to DOK2 but not below that (unless you use work around and flash 910T2 firmware, which will allow you to go to 4.4.4 BL , and still can come back to latest) but thats a different story, regardless of that , however , you can anytime switch among DOK2 to PE3 to PG2 in any order. I think android N for 910T should be tested on EPG2 and not on DOK2 , atleast should give it a try on EPG2. I think the dev @USA-RedDragon , already must have tried all bootloaders and basebands , i m just replying to above posts.

I tried EPE3 on mm but got too frustrated with the issues. So I've been weary to try it again. But you do have a point that I should try with newer bl/modem combos. I've got a mm rom compatible with epe3, so I might as well flash that. The Odin files are on my desktop staring me down
Side note, the logs point to something bring wrong wkth the code and not a bl/modem -> rom compatibility. But I could be wrong. Never hurts to try

to make it easier ,why dont you just flash EPG2 BL and CP using odin (as opposed to entire MM rom) .and see if it fixes any of the issues with current N build.

got it thx, let me know if you want me to test 910T builds, however i do need sim to be working for incoming/outgoing calls , cant live without that rest all i can test.
I have purchased yet another note 4 for the grandson. His firmware is QI15. Original plan was for me to use it, but since my Pixel 3a XL is still yet a lease I might as well use it. Plus it is a lot faster anyway.. His mother does not have the money to buy one for him, so I figured what the hell, he can have it.Which roms can he use.. I no longer have mine, but will root this if it is still possible.. From reading you can't downgrade from MM to LL. But can you downgrade to a earlier version of MM? Thanks.
inYes, that is correct but also cant downgrade the bootloader/modem. That is because of fused 5, binary 4. and te old official stock 5DQ15 .tar md5 can be fashed via Odin. Any other stock firmware below that has a fused 4 and flashing will result in a bricked device.
If your already on 5DQ15 and wish to flash customer roms then use TWRP and make a back up of all partitions to external sd. The any custom rom for Sprint Note 4 (sm-n910p) on Marshmallow are/should compatible. Basically, follow the instructions provided by the rom developer but do not flash a different bootloader or modem. Other than that follow all other institution. For best results, start in setting , sustem update and turm of automatic updates then update PRL and Profile beforehand. Developer Option and usb debugging enabled.
Rooting the Sprint Note 4 on 5DQ15 still possible? Yes 100% SuperSu or Magisk are the preferred root methods.

Also recommend you start with a stock deodexed rom as a base before flashing other custom roms. Rom only
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...tock-deodexed-debloated-pk1-12-11-16-t3517454
or
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-t3568075
then reboot and give it time to properly set up set up. Check if hotspot is visible setting and check your apn settings. If all looks good and it should the return to TWRP and once again make a back up and rename (2019-10-05-deodexStockNoroot.....) so not to be mistaken with any other backups. After that flash root .zip and/or a custum rom of you choice.
I use the BeastMod r61 kernel by Freeza on a N4 Dtux V9 Legend rom. Fixed issues with network connection.

inYes, that is correct but also cant downgrade the bootloader/modem.

Fixed issues with network connection.

you know what sucks, my last note 4 for Sprint hell I was able to downgrade from marshmallow to lollipop. But since this is for the grandson I guess it really doesn't matter I'll put something on there good for him and leave it at that

I 100% agree that not being able to downgrade sucks big time. I hear all the hipe about new Android OS updates but there are advantages of older versions. In 2018, I searched for a replacement with a lower bootloader but simply couldn't find one. Knowing that peope were bricking there device and Odin fails I decided to get one in fair condition. Being the type to mod and flash yet unsure of what ir how to do that as custom roms are specific to bootloader and modem. I figured, I'll practice with a cheap on incase I hard brick. At the time there didnt seem to be specific information on what rom worked with 5DQ15. I started out with Stockist Plus tidbits Q15. My old Note 4 was on [MOAR v2.1] [ULTIMATE Note5 Hybrid] on lollipop 5.1.1. and had lost of customizations prebuild. So going from the Mother Of All Roms (MOAR) on lollipop to Stockish Q15 on marshmallow, just sucked. It didnt take long before I started taking calculated risks with flashing and porting, even from other models and variations. Stepping out side the box but within boundaries. For instance, the n910f is an international version but much of its software is compatible with the n910p. For instance, this one works on n910p with most stockish roms on Sprint Note 4. With Custum roms it may conflict depending on the setting. If stockish rom or custom rom come with a "rom control"app (interface) and .zip in the link bellow come with "rom control" app thin it is not compatible. One cool feature is it adds "multiple user" in setting.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/themes-apps/utility-rom-control-note-4-stock-roms-t3586944
These n910f worked for me and has the advantage of separate .zips moding specific parts but warn that one of these .zip in the link , I believe its the "settings theme" .zip when flashed removes "hotspot" from the settings. Just 6.0mm zips are compatible on dq15 n010p.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/themes-apps/theme-customize-galaxy-note-4-n910f-t3017621
The GRX is one of my favorites for stockish roms. It can be compatible with custom roms but its a complicated process. Im guessing it should work with the N7 hybrid rom. Its relatively easy and offers nice smooth customizations. Its a good idea to chech the setting of both settem and "setting GRX" as to avoid conflict. If you find it on XDA even better. For me, I find it to be the best thing on 6.0mm.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/androidfit.com/grx-touchwiz-mod-v8-apk-for-any-samsung/amp
And the PK1 hotspot mod will work as long as the hotspot is in the main settings.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...tock-deodexed-debloated-pk1-12-11-16-t3517454
Good luck to you and your grandson rooting and moding.

If you install Busybox with the N7 hybrid kernel I offer a suggestion.
Busybox by Stephen (Stericson)
I never installed the Dr. Ketan rom but I did look at the Touchwiz launcher provided in the .zip and it is a MM. Dont know why you got FC's . Most likely its our latest firmware that to blame.
Wish I could remember what it was I flashed to get that in my settings as I think I remember you wanted that feature.
I recently purchased an tab S4 just an update from my previous Samsung tablet. I was wondering is there more ROMs for this tablet or ROMs currently in development? I noticed theres like 2 ROMs for this tablet. I have a note 8 and I'm currently running deluxerom on and it, and I really enjoy the tweaks and customization I'm able to do. I was looking for a same kind of feature for my tablet. Would greatly appreciate the answers I'm looking for. Thanks!

Pretty much zero support. You can get a few 9.0 GSI ROMs to boot, but they all have issues. Mine has been sitting around since it was purchased while still using my old 2014 model.

Aww no way!? Really? I excitingly got this tablet cause of the features and thought perhaps there would be amazing ROMs for this particular tablet, but I guess not xD What are GSI ROMs? Also as a desperate attempt would other tablet ROMs work on this s4? Thanks mate!

I had thought the same thing, but it seems the S3 is the last tablet to get real support.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
Some of the ones for 9 will work, but most features won't work too well, if at all.
You might be able to get another rom to work, I know I had no luck. Even trying ones with similar hardware, they all failed to even flash since the booting numbers are different.
Kind of have to be satisfied with Samsung, half baked custom roms or sell the thing.

First, download "Treble Check" app from playstore & read for your device...

Hey Veekay I tried it and you're right unfortunately I came across the same issue as you brother
Now I'm stuck and I need help sorting my device out, was wondering if you knew this issue or could help?
When I got the stock firmware back and then when I flash TWRP with odin after going into TWRP I get 0mb as internal
so when I format and then go back into my load up the screen after SAMSUNG says "verification failed" and then reset
on the bottom. I tried other options as well. Without even wiping on TWRP the devices boots up into the setup wizard for the firmware fine
but after I wipe TWRP so I can get access to my internal drive my samsung boots into that verification reset screen. Got any clue as to how I can
resolve this issue? Thanks a bunch!

Have you tried just reloading the latest stock firmware from scratch?
Yup, its unfortunate that there isn't much community support for this device. The Tab S4 is Project Treble supported and a few GSI ROMS do work. But as others have said they are unstable and not for use as a daily driver. We have a few discussion threads here talking about them.

Would that work? If I did that I would still be able to download and install TWRP and have a root? Because of it being PIE

Generic System Image (GSI) list :
https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
you can try only "Android 9 Pie" official or unofficial gsi roms..
and remember ! Some GSIs roms maybe are not compatible with some devices! you can ask for your device on each thread
(for example look here): https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/issues/777
(usually this Gsi aosp 9 phh, generally works on most devices...BUT! ask first, and discuss it in the thread)

Can I do this without stock ROM and only TWRP? Because having the stock ROM is disabling my twrp to function without wiping and if I wipe than my stock ROM doesn't work

Sorry, but I don't understand what do you mean " without stock rom and only twrp"...
you can install a Gsi rom, with two ways
Via TWRP, or Via Fastboot : https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/ (Tab S4 is a-only arm64)
for any other question, it is better to ask in the thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...vice-development/aosp-9-0-phh-treble-t3831915
(read carefully in OP & you can post, every single question there for your device, and you will get certainly help from the developer or from any other user..)

You are going to have to just wipe it and start over from square one, unless you made a TWRP backup before starting all of this.
Download and flash the latest stock rom from recovery and then you can load twrp again.
I was looking at the possibility of using GSI's on some devices, and while they can offer new life to older devices, they're not entirely stable all the time unless you're willing to make your own changes. I know Lineage has made some excellent progress, but it's not fullproof yet and I wouldn't try it unless you're willing to not use your device as a daily use device.
I had an extra T-Mobile Revvlry which is basically a rebranded Moto g7 Play that I installed the Lineage GSI image and it works fairly well. However, this is more the exception to the rule and Moto devices, I feel, are far simpler in design vs certain Samsung devices. It also had a ton of trial and error involved for me to get it up and running properly.
Is it possible as the s4 becomes older, more people buy it and Samsung stops releasing official updates that someone will come along and create a ROM for it? Or is it more like Samsung locked the bootloaders and its close to impossible to write a ROM for it? Is it still possible to root the s4?

especially, read the user comments carefully, and ask on the thread for any questions you have..

Thanks. I took a quick peak at the roms and kernels in the roms and kernels forum and they are pretty much all abandoned.
Someone did mention that the LOS 16.0 and ArrowOS GSI's work alright but are a bit buggy.

samsung, maybe at the end of july to give the upgrade to android 10....it is very likely to happen I think
yes,all Gsi Roms still have various problems unfortunately...
my opinion is: stay to stock rom for now....you can "uninstall" many applications if you want & without root, via "samsung package disabler"(paid) from playstore, or with this way:
https://beebom.com/how-remove-bloatware-android-without-root/
also, you can Install "NiceLock Downloader Companion App" ,to add some features on your device : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/themes/nicelock-module-download-links-module-t3923844
with this way I operate my device until now..
