I'm using latest pre-rooted ROM with Ad-Away.
I've used Xposed with Min-Min Guard to hide Amazon's launcher ads in the past. I'm patiently awaiting Xposed for this version of FireOS.
Since I'm a DTV Now subscriber, I decided to try out the USA Now app instead of fumbling in Kodi. It wasn't enjoyable to watch five 30-60s ads throughout the course of one 43 minute show. I endured it, but immediately went to make sure I had the latest hosts file from Ad-Away. I tried watching the show again, and it still has Ads.
I had great success with Ad-Away blocking Xfinity TV Go ads in the past. Are some of these newer in-app ads just unable to be blocked by Ad-Away?

Flashed Calkulin's ROM which I believe has ad blocking enabled, which I would like to keep on at all times. However, recently installed Hulu Plus, modded for all devices, and realized that the adblocker prevents Hulu ads from showing, which causes an error/FC. Any idea on how I can allow ads ONLY on Hulu Plus?
Thanks!

You would first need to find out what ad sites are being used by Hulu. Then remove or comment out the lines in the /system/etc/hosts file that contain those sites.
The problem is, I doubt Hulu is only using a specific set of ad sites.
Darn...guess I'll just wait until our device is listed as a supported one...
I recently setup a VPN on my desktop that bypassed my OpenDNS account. I didn't release that it did it for my entire network. I did the internal updater block, so luckily I didn't lose root. But now I am getting ads on one of the games I downloaded to the Fire TV. Is there anyway to block these and delete the package that it downloaded?
I use AdAway on my phone so I installed on FTV and it works for blocking ads well. I dont know which ads it blocks because I have always had it on there. The only one that I know is the showbox app. It had annoying ads across bottom and after video was done. They are completely blocked now. Hopefully someone will answer the question about how to remove the package it installed.

Adblock plus for Android. This is the latest version, 1.2.1 and I find it's not blocking adds on my AFTV, so I went back to an older version.
UPDATE:
I find the above link app doesn't block anything for me, so I went back to the one I was using before:

This is version 1.0.1 that I got off of the piratebay. It has the Fanboy List, which is what I've been using to block stuff.
Also going to point out there is the Lucky Patcher, which can try to remove ads from individual apps, amongst other things. Google for it. Grab any version from a source you trust, and it will auto update to the latest version if you give it a min after opening it. Needs root of course.
anyine know of a way to remove the hulu ads? thanks guys

Yup. Install adblock. But then the whole thing hangs when it tries to play the ads. They are sneaky.

Both the new ADB+ and Luck Patcher did the trick! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. :good:
Hey guys. I've found it almost unbearable to browse the Web due to ads popping up every 5 seconds. This is one area where I really miss having adaway with root on my old nexus 5. Are any of you guys using an ad blocking app that doesn't require root? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this
Before gatesjunior released his awesome SuperSU Me app, I was using Adguard Beta (no root) with Adblock filter list. It was so good that I paid one year subscription for it.
Now, I'm back to Adaway. I transferred my Adguard license to my gf's Note 4.
Nice. Thanks for the tip suntzupa! I might have to give that one a shot
Doesn't Adaway require root?
Why not use a browser that has adblock plus support like Firefox or even adblock plus' own Firefox port.
Or global adblock plus with proxies...
Adaway does require root permissions to modify the hosts file. Firefox adblock edge plugin works like a charm but only blocks ads while browsing, so any apps will have ads. I love MX Player for video playback and is starting to get ridiculous with ads. Adguard only blocks browsing traffic but requires paid premium for it to block ads on applications. (I tested it and MX Player still had ads coming through and the settings of adguard say you need premium for adblocking on all apps.)

Adgaurd seems to work well..also webgaurd is another to try.

Anyone find something good yet for ad blocking without root? My girls note 4 has ads popping up on everything she does. Even when in messaging or taking videos. Just about everything she does ads pop up. I've turned off so much and Uninstalled Half her apps and they still pop up. I've tried quite a few different apps and they still pop up. It's ads for like tons of different things. If anyone has some suggestions it would be appreciated. Thanks
I'm also looking for an inexpensive recommendation. I like the Dolphin browser but I don't think you can install AdBlock.
I too was looking for inexpensive way to get the ad protection, tried the temp root method several times, it is just not a good realistic use of root, I ended up going back to my LG G2 , it is just so much better to have full perm root, I will dump my Note 4 then also take a look at scooping up a Nexus 6 off swappa on the cheap but will wait to see what the price of new Huawei Nexus (aka Note 5 killer) will be.
RIP Note 4, it was good while it lasted
I've learned plenty over the last 2 weeks after the Prime Day sale that prompted me to purchase my first FTV. Thanks to all who've come before.
I installed Xposed on PreRooted 5.2.1.0. I set up AdAway, Google Play (leanback), FDroid, HDX&Rbox Mods among other primary tools. I was able to access AdAway and Google Play from My Apps in the official launcher. But today I cannot as they've disappeared from that page.
I thought that this ROM would prevent these shenanigans. Is there a service I can disable to prevent it?
I've been away from the Android scene on a Jailbroken iPhone for a few years. I just received my Z2 and was hoping folks could provide an answer. If I root it (when my OTG cable comes in) is there an ad blocker in the Magiskmanager that I can use to block ads in Youtube?
Thanks.
Xposed framework may have a YouTube adblocker you could put on and adaway is good adblocker. Worked for me after mounting system rw and making adaway system app it was able to merge hosts file for general as blocking.
There is a modified Youtube apk that reportedly removes ads. AFAIK none of the xposed etc modules work any longer.
For the rest of the ads, you can use Adaway (rooted)
or DNS66 if not rooted.
Cheers

I've used Adaway on my rooted One Plus works great.
For the Moto Z2 I reverted it back to unrooted, got tired of system updates causing bootloops.
DNS66 seemed to cause massive wakelocks and was not blocking correctly.
Block This Ad Blocker worked so much better, very close to the performance of Adaway.
