Verizon pixel XL to Google store, bootloader unlock? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

If I flash the play store version to my Verizon one will I be able to bootloader unlock? Or would I need to be bootloader unlocked to flash. I'm on feb5 security patch so I can't use depixel8

You need to be unlocked to flash it, so unfortunately you are done.

Is there going to be anyway in the future to bootloader unlock? Or can I downgrade? Just spent $540 to root lol

You can't downgrade. It is very doubtful that there will be a way. I suppose it is possible but it doesn't seem anyone is even working on it.

Well that sucks, that was a waste lol

I can't believe there is still at least one new thread a week about the same thing.

If it was such a waste why not just return it and pay the $35 restocking fee? Then buy a Google device and unlock it, root it and most likely brick it like half the other people have. And even better yet, research it next time before you buy anything so you don't need to come here and start yet another Verizon thread. And if you can't do any of the above then just enjoy the device as is since you really don't need an unlocked bootloader or root to get the full Pixel experience.

Amazing.

If you are stuck in a bootloop on the Verizon version because you locked yourself out of adb mode, there is an answer. When you load up the phone go into fastboot mode and type fastboot continue
This will actually let you get into the phone before it does its crazy bootloop again and throw you out of adb.

Unlocked Bootloader in AT&T Note 4?

I've come across many posts stating that the bootloader in the Note 4 AT&T variant may be locked. Is there a way to put in a unlocked bootloader in case one wants to proceed towards rooting the device? I know Lollipop is expected to be a new day in age for the Android Community, but I'm sure the XDA community would still be able to work something out.
No, that is not currently possible. Phone is neither able to be bootloader unlocked nor rooted at this time.
Yikes, will it be able to be bootloader unlocked or rooted in the near future?

People are working on it, but no guarantees. It is very possible that root may be found, but not a bootloader unlock.
Although it is also possible neither are achieved.
No one knows.
The moral of the story is that if you 'need' root, you should never buy a phone until AFTER it is rooted... Root is NOT guaranteed on new Samsung phones anymore - getting very locked down.

They have root and twrp custom recovery because they aren't locked down like Verizon and Att are.
Silly question, but doesn't this have a negative impact on the AT&T variant Note 4's resale value?

Not really. 99% of people don't give a crap (or even know about) root or locked bootloaders.

New Verizon OTA - Should I take?

Hello all,
I'll try and keep this short and sweet. I have a Verizon HTC 10. I recently used Sunshine to Unlock and S-off, and I have TWRP installed and I am rooted. Should I take the Verizon OTA that was apparently released today? (Security fix it claims, no additional bug fixes or anything.)
Will I lose my root if I do? Quite frankly it doesn't seem worth the hassle if that's the case...but I also don't want to have to keep delaying this OTA every day to get the message to go away...
Thoughts?
Thank you!

You will lose root, but it's super simple to just flash supersu zip again after you update.

About that I have a European version and was thinking of s off my phone but someone said the temp root does not in 1.90, can someone confirm it?

Well I'm trying to fix and issue I'm having with the camera flash, ever since the update it will only flash once and then will not work again with any app no matter what until I do a restart. It worked before the update and nothing happened to the phone so I wanted to see if going back might fix it before I have to get a refurbished one from Verizon.

Well first you need to unlock your bootloader: http://theroot.ninja/depixel8.html
After that, download the P factory image from Google's site and follow instructions to install. Just remember to backup stuff you want (photos, files, anything saved on storage) because unlocking will perform a factory reset.

Already unlocked and downloaded the images and tried to install as the directions but during the process it says boot.img and recovery.img is missing even though I did exactly what it said.

Did you copy the files into the fastboot and adb program file?
They need to be in there for it to work.

Your using an outdated ADB and Fastboot (like 99% of the people on this forum).
Here is the latest: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/31360541/platform-tools-version_1.0.36-API_25.zip

There might not be any refurbished phones to send you so you might luck out. Better to try now than later when they have a big stock of returned phones. Or I'm crazy and you'll get one either way...

Doubt you'd get a refurbished unit at this point, you'd still get one from replacement stock set aside for early issues.

You will need to unlock your bootloader. Why do you need to downgrade though? You can root and install TWRP on nde63x.

Unlocking vzw bootloader Android O beta?

Just a thought, has anyone tried this? Just curious.
I don't believe there are any devs working on it since the last update that patched the "Depixel8" software. Seems they've given up on the VZW variant. There is a bounty somewhere in these forums. For both bootloader unlock exploit and temp root to flash TWRP and hopefully SuperSU. But I don't know if anyone is trying or what.

Honestly what is in it for the devs to find another exploit, just for it to be patched again, especially that there is an unlocked model of the phone. If they all were locked down, most likely they would try. Honestly just sell the VZW Version and buy the GPE. It is still locked on O, while being TMO.

Root Access?

Anyone know if there is anything special needed to add root access to the phone? Would love to add Xposed and Magisk to the phone to customize.
Are you happy with the phone? I think I am going to buy it if root is possible.
I've been very pleased with this phone. It's responsive and snappy. The more I use it the better I get with it. It does take a little bit of a learning curve and some customizing to set it up. But it is well worth it after you do that.
. I do not believe there's any way to root this phone at the moment.

yeah I ended up getting the OnePlus 8tplus 5g for T-mobile and its bootloader unlocked and I got it sim card unlocked
This is my first unrooted device... well since ever. And I am very pleased with it. I would love to get root for ad blocking and OS update control. But other than that this phone is Rock Solid.
Did anyone managed to unlock the bootloader? I can access fastboot and recovery too but with locked bootloader you can't flash or even test boot with fastboot boot *.img. Did anyone try to "fastboot oem unlock" on old versions of the firmware?
Adb reboot fastboot works for me.

Lucky. Tmo is better for the locking down of the OS.. Verizon are bastards
Bumping this thread because I got my Wing going today on TMO but would like to be able to root and remove all the AT&T and other bloatware. I'm dumb to this stuff so I don't know what the benefits are of ADB reboot fastboot but I'll happily do whatever works to make it faster.

System tuner UI works really well to speed up the phone. I went down to 0.2x for animation speed. If you don't want to use system tuner UI, you can go down to 0.5x animations and developer settings. Or turn them off completely.
Speed up transition animations
In developer options Change animation speed to ".5x" Just a little snappier especially when "winging" open ? enjoy!
